Letter from the Editor Hey Key Club members! This month I am finally realizing that I cannot keep procrastinating on making the newsletter without going crazy, so since I am going to try and improve something about myself, I encourage all of you to do the same. P.S, Thank you mason for writing all the stuff this month!!!

HARDSHIPS OF A KEY CLUB OFFICER Excerpt by Mason Hudak " Junior year was the year that I went to nearly every event and every meeting. Our membership had changed in those two years, and there was a total shift in the mood of the room. There were welcoming people, people I knew, and even some other dudes! I learned all the events we usually do like Boo Bash and Trash Bash and the Christmas caroling. I had a great time with the members and officers in our club, and I was proud to recite the pledge.

Though the membership seemed to dwindle over the course of the year. By the end, we didn’t even have enough people to fill all of the officer positions. I knew my place as secretary was guaranteed, but not in the manner which I had hoped. I was one of two members that went to LEDCON. That, of course, was a great experience that I hope to have again. So it was the last week of school, and the work had already started for me. I was fortunate enough to get to shadow Phat, our amazing secretary, so I knew exactly what I needed to do. Our activity over the summer was…low. I felt disgraced filling out the monthly report and leaving most of it blank..." .."

Humans of Texas-Oklahoma When I first joined Key Club, it was only because my mom forced me to. My sister had been in it her junior and senior years of high school. She said that she wished she had joined it sooner. I was skeptical of this club that I’d never heard of before because its focus was merely community service–why not just join the national honor society? Despite my qualms, I attended the meetings. I sat, I listened, I did the pledge (which was quite strange to do), and went home indifferent, irritated that I had to waste my time at these meetings. I didn’t know these people, no other freshmen were there, and I was the only guy too. I contributed nothing and felt uncomfortable the whole time. But before the year was over, it was announced that our spring break would be extended to three weeks. In accordance with the mayan calendar, Key Club was far from my mind as the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the world.

There was a great impact on the lives of everyone on Earth and I was no exception when I developed an early case of senioritis and barely managed to finish the year with passing grades at the mercy of my teachers. Sophomore year, I had no spare cares to give, least of all for some stupid club. I barely attended any of the meetings that year and didn’t go to a single service event. I didn’t like it there anyway; it wasn’t for me. That was until one day. I don’t remember why–maybe I had finally gotten used to the masks and distancing– but I suddenly felt that I should participate. Everyone was having a rough time and I realized that I should just calm down and accept the situation. The year was nearly over, and I felt great remorse over my absence. Next year I would be there.
