GUEST EDITOR’S NOTE Hi all, I’m Callye and I have taken on the role as guest editor for this issue. So it’s that dreaded time of year again: summer’s over and for many of us it’s a time to face new beginnings, be that school, university or jobs. We’ve put this issue together wanting to provide information and advice that is relevant to all people in Wales aged 11-25. The articles we’ve chosen span a range of topics and we think there is something in here for everyone. This zine is just a small taster of what CLIConline is all about and we hope it will encourage you to get involved. The network gets over 35,000 visits each month and is available throughout Wales. Want to write for CLIConline? Head over to CLIConline.co.uk and register to become a CLICer!

MAKE US A CLICvlog We hope you have already watched some of the videos on CLICplay.co.uk, your dedicated video channel, but did you know you can upload your own? The idea is to allow you to share your thoughts and opinions on news and information that could affect young people in Wales. The project, created by CLICer CrazyDistortion, started as part of his university assessment and has been running for over six months.

During this time, a variety of themes have been discussed, from general topics such as sports and tattoos to more personal ones like trust and confidence. Not involved yet? Drop an email to CLICvlog@gmail.com

Vote @ 16! by Snow.. from Vale Of Glamorgan (swoosh.me.uk) Wednesday 4 July 2012 was an absolutely fantastic day for the future of young people in Wales. The Welsh Government debated on lowering the voting age, and I was lucky enough to be involved throughout the whole day. Kicking off at seven in the morning, I was asked about my personal views towards lowering the voting age on BBC Radio Wales’ Good Morning Wales. Of course, I was fully for lowering the voting age. Being a 16-year-old with an interest in politics, to me it just seems logical that

if you’re expected to pay taxes, then you should have a say if you’re expected to pay taxes to the government, then you should have a say. I try not to sound biased, but some of the arguments against lowering the age weren’t very strong. For example, one Assembly Member said that the majority of 16-year-olds are mature enough and responsible enough to vote, but because of the small minority that he considers aren’t, he was against votes at 16. PI ERCI NG S! by Black_Star from Powys (towip.co.uk) I get the same questions every time. How many do you have? Which hurt the most? Where did you get them done? I have 16 piercings in total: seven in one ear, five in the other, my nose, lip, smiley and belly button. So you want a piercing eh? First think about which one you want, and carefully. You have to be 16 to get a piercing, unless you have parental permission. For piercings in places like your belly and lip you have to be 18. I’m no expert, I just have loads of holes in my ears! So whatever your professional piercer advises, go with that.

INFO RIGHT NOW IN MALTA by hiyamynameissoph from Pembrokeshire (pembrokeshireyouthzone.co.uk) Picture this: it’s 10pm but still incredibly warm in the tiny fishing town of Marsaxlokk, Malta and you’re sitting on the floor, crossed legged and barefoot on the harbour, inches away from the crystal clear sea. You’re surrounded by a good twenty people who, despite the fact you only met them 48 hours ago, already feel like family. You’re sharing secrets and stories and as you look across the ripples in the water, you notice the lights

from the street lamps dancing orange and yellow amongst the rainbow coloured boats. This is my 2012 perfect moment and CLIC gave me the chance to experience it at the ERYICA Youth Conference (eryica.org).

A TEENAGER’S GUIDE TO BEING ILL by RawrIAmADinosaur from Carmarthenshire (carmarthenshireyouth.co.uk) It was just one of those days: wake up, eat food, brush teeth and get dressed. Then two hours later while sitting in Media, I sneezed... and that is why I have been reduced to social isolation within the confines of my house. I have a cold, back pains, and I am tired. So after two days of sitting in my living room playing my favourite video game, Minecraft, watching The Big Bang Theory, listening to Frank Sinatra and browsing the beautiful and exhilarating articles on CLIC I now consider myself an expert in surviving those home alone days where you can’t go out or see your friends.

I am 11-years-old and have an older brother (whose name I will not say), and our parents are divorced. My dad has a girlfriend but my mum does not have a boyfriend. I have found it very hard to get my head around the fact they have split. I love my dad very much and could never survive without him, but seeing him with his girlfriend makes me want to cry. My dad’s girlfriend is also divorced with two kids. They are lovely. I think I don’t like her because she is like a new chapter in my very own life book and I’m not used to reading it yet. I liked the other chapter. Read the full article at bit.ly/sheisanewchapter

PONTY’S BIG WEEKEND RE VI EW by TWSkittles from Blaenau Gwent (CLICsite coming soon)

On Saturday 21st July 2012, hundreds of people travelled to Pontypridd to start the summer off with a bang. My friend and I were lucky enough to join the party too! Olly Murs, Cover Drive, Diana Vickers and Aleks Josh from The Voice were among the amazing line up.

Although we had tickets for Friday’s show, just before the gates opened the staff announced that the headliner Jessie J had been taken ill and was told by her doctor to cancel all shows for the weekend. This left the very huge crowds disappointed and upset. Saturday saw another very huge crowd turn up despite the cancellation of Jessie the night before. The event was outdoors so many people came prepared with ponchos and umbrellas in case the typical Welsh weather turned up. But lucky for us the sun stayed out all day! We were lucky enough to be four rows from the barrier, and the security at the event gave out plastic cups of water to keep us hydrated.

On Saturday 28 July myself and a friend had photographers’ passes to the Access All Eirias concert in Colwyn Bay. We arrived at Eirias Park where the concert was taking place. When we arrived, we could hear Pixie Lott soundchecking and she sounded amazing. At this point we were excited for the concert. We went to collect our passes and waited for instructions on where to go. We were waiting for the concert to start and we managed to meet one of the acts - A*M*E. We also managed to see Pixie Lott

and Cover Drive. Whilst waiting to be let in we managed to see Olly Murs soundchecking and we even got a wave from him. Read the full article at bit.ly/accesseirias

Get info on sexual health at bit.ly/bwsted sexualhealth

by Kinghamster from Bridgend (bwsted.com) Sexuality is a big thing in anyone’s life. No matter whether you’re straight or gay it has some sort of impact. It doesn’t matter what your sexuality is, you should not be treated differently. The one thing that annoys me about sexuality is some people’s gender attitude towards it. Some women say female gays are disgusting, but gay guys are cute and wish they had a gay friend. Males say that women gays are awesome and that male gays are just wrong. We all deserve the right to be with who we want.

A ST OR Y OF RA PE by Anonymoustache from Neath Port Talbot (nptshake.com) It all occurred two years ago. For starters, she was in a horrendous relationship, an abusive relationship. She was young (15) and vulnerable, I guess. She was crazy for this guy. She would do anything for him (except sexual favours, she believed in no sex before marriage). He was her first boyfriend and she’d never kissed a boy before. As she was against any sexual doings, this infuriated him and he’d hit her. It was constant neglect and abuse. BEATING A R G U M E N T S by End0fDarkness from Merthyr Tydfil (merthyrnoise.com) Pretty much everything we do in life involves other people. Think about the people you meet and talk to in different places: school, college, uni, work, spending time with family, going out with friends, going for interviews, going shopping and so on.

A lot of these people are nice, but what about those who aren’t? Imagine if everyone was able to talk you into doing whatever they wanted you to do. They may even have made you believe this was the right thing to do, and that you should feel bad for not following what they say.

BODY DYSMORPHIC DI S O RDER by DeadAngelLover22 from Caerphilly (youth4u.co.uk) Body Dysmorphic Disorder (or BDD as it is often called) can cause great mental and physical distress. C H R O M E MOST USED BROWSER nsea (shouttawe.co.uk)

by Ploppy McDougle from Swa

Google Chrome has surpassed Internet Explorer as the most used internet browser. The reason for the browser’s rapid rise to the top is also bad news for Microsoft, as more and more people decide to close their Internet Explorer window for the last time after installing Chrome. But it’s not just Microsoft’s problem, as the stat collecting StatCounter shows that a number of people are doing the same for Mozilla’s well known browser, Firefox. IT – PROS & CONS

by thechaser from Conwy (youngconwy.com)

by missnshah from Anglesey (defaid.com) For me, to optimise a successful education is to strike a balance. Some technology is very useful. For example: printing online timetables to find the next lectures in seminar rooms for your modules, or accessing tutorial comments/feedback on dissertations etc. My advice for uni work is simple: • Prioritise tasks and be organised • Be determined to do well • Most importantly enjoy and love what you study, then nothing can go wrong • Manage your time • Fit in breaks

If you are interested in setting up your own business you will need help and qualifications, so the BTEC Diploma In Business might be the course for you. You have the You have the chance to start up a small chance to start up business within a small business the college where they will provide you with a loan of £50, as well as entering you for the Young Enterprise Competition.
