Architectural and urban design can be both characterized as a design process that obviously starts with a research of the context the design deals with. Territorial and urban infrastructures, urban analysis and scenarios, programmatic and typological hybrids, the mutation of the built environment as well as the history of the context form the input for architectural thinking and design.On a group basis, eleven students that were involved in the studio have researched the city and the location of the design competition; Chengdu, China. All results are collected into one coherent document. This document can be seen as the result of the research and contains the necessary input for the design competition Vertical Cities Asia 2010-2011.
