The best service in the business We are in the process of making big investments in improvements of our organisation and set-up - new IT systems and a new giant terminal in Taulov among other things. At the same time, some of our activities are affected by the low oil price and financial unrest on several important markets including China, Russia and South America. Therefore I wish to consolidate our position", says Kurt Skov. "We have a big and strong customer base, to whom our dedicated employees provide good, efficient and innovative transport solutions every day. Since the foundation of Blue Water, we have established close relations to the customers which enable us to understand their needs. We shall also in the future maintain this focus and in this way develop the best solutions and the highest quality of the business".

"Blue Water has grown significantly in recent years and it is my wish that the company shall continue its positive development. After a somewhat dull 2015, on the result side, and moderate budgets for 2016, we will concentrate our efforts on strengthening our financial result this year rather than focus on expansion", says Kurt Skov, Managing Director and Founder of Blue Water. For the past three years, Kim Hedegaard Sørensen has been the company's CEO, In late January, however, Kim left Blue Water after mutual agreement after he and the Board of Directors disagreed on the future strategy of Blue Water. Kurt is now back as Managing Director of Blue Water and he and the other executive board members are now looking at the future plan for the company which operates in six business segments and employs more than 1,500 people at 67 offices worldwide.

TERMINAL UPDATE

Project Manager for the terminal construction, Claus Gutfeld, and Terminal Manager Michael Engsig Hansen in front of the new office in Taulov.

Improving the quality The construction of Blue Water’s new terminal in Taulov – an investment of 120 million DKK – is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016 Next summer, when the 12,300 m2 cargo terminal and 1,800 m2 office facilities are completed, we will move into our new facilities in Taulov. “When the construction is completed, we can start utilising the consolidation effect that the terminal will give us. Consolidating our cargo volume will give us the opportunity to optimise the operation. This will generate synergies and advantages which means that our clients will experience an improved quality. This could for instance be fewer or perhaps

only one daily collection of their cargo”, says Claus Gutfeld who is Project Manager for the construction at Blue Water.

Experienced Manager Michael Engsig Hansen is employed as Terminal Manager. He has, for several years, been responsible for operating and managing both the central warehouse and the spare part warehouses in Europe for Kongskilde Industries. Also, Michael has built comprehensive experience within management, transport, logistics and

terminal operation through prior employments.

Team spirit “It will be exciting to be in charge of the terminal operation with a team made up of many different persons. The success depends on a good team spirit and I will do whatever I can to make sure that everyone is pleased with the new environment – both the drivers and our employees”, says Michael Engsig Hansen. In addition to the construction itself, other project groups

are busily involved. One group is preparing internal guidelines and structures for our future national distribution. Another group is evaluating which kind of equipment the terminal should have. This is important in order to ensure the optimal handling of the cargo and not least for the safet y of our employees . Al so, t here will be ot her projects in connect ion with safety/surveillance and the IT systems to be implemented.

The 250-metre terminal has 105 gates.

Exhaust funnel to newbuilding in France In 2015, the colleagues at Blue Water Turku, Finland arranged two part charters for a hoistable exhaust funnel system to the world’s biggest cruise vessel The vessel is under construction at the well-reputed Shipyard, STX France in St. Nazaire, designing, fabricating, erecting and commissioning ships and offshore installations. The project also included offloading at destination which was arranged in cooperation with Blue Water France. The hoistable exhaust funnel system will ensure that Oasis-class vessels can enter the Baltic Sea when coming from the North Sea and having to pass under the Great Belt Bridge. By lowering the exhaust funnel, the required clearance for a safe passage will be ensured. The funnel system was tailor-made in Finland by Tejera Oy and loaded on board at Rauma port, Finland.

Aviko and Blue Water signs extensive contract Aviko, one of the leading European manufacturers of fresh, frozen and dried potato products, has signed a three-year logistics contract with Blue Water “With this contract we expect to handle more than 4,000 reefer containers worldwide per year for Aviko who has worldwide export. Aviko will extend their cold storage facilities by 40,000 additional pallet places. The facilities will be fully automatic and operational in 2017. Aviko is indeed a major player on the market”, says Hans Poiesz, the Managing Director of Blue Water Rotterdam.

The contract was signed in January, when Blue Water was invited to visit Aviko’s factory in Steenderen in Holland. Early in the morning, an introduction was given to the history of Aviko and their plans for the future followed by a guided tour of the factory. We also attended the loading of a container at the cold store. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to taste some of Aviko’s products.

National Poultry & Food Distributors Association (NPFDA) recently hosted a great networking event in Atlanta where Blue Water participated. The highlight is always the markets, and this time, the attention was mainly concentrated on the South African market. For the first time in 15 years, this market reopens to US chicken import. The energy of the people and the optimism towards this market made the event even more exciting, not only for Blue Water but for the whole industry. The three-day event attracted hundreds of domestic and international players: suppliers, customers, traders, shipping lines and transport companies. “We have proven successful in fulfilling our clients’ logistical needs in different markets and our long-term business relationship strategy is well underway. We continue building strong relationships with our clients and partners. Our meetings at the conference went very well and we had interesting discussions regarding current market issues and predictions of 2016”, says Belkis Ataman from Blue Water Miami.

More fish to Europe Blue Water Hirtshals has entered into a transport and logistics agreement with one of Norway's largest salmon exporters Sekkingstad. The agreement includes transport of Sekkingstad's production of fresh, iced salmon and trout from their packing facilities in Bergen and from external packing facilities around Norway. Sekkingstad's annual sales amount to ap-

proximately 50,000 tons. The fish is either transported directly from Norway to the clients in Europe or to Blue Water's reefer terminal in Padborg for sorting, handling and further distribution in Europe. "Norwegian export of fresh and frozen fish is a large and growing market, which we want to remain part of. That is why our experienced drivers and freight forwar-

ders are available 24/7/365", says Leon K. Andersen, Manager for the Norwegian traffic at Blue Water Hirtshals. From Padborg, Blue Water offers daily departures to Germany, Holland, Belgium, France as well as weekly departures to other European markets.

WIND LOGISTICS

Sandbank in the final phase Blue Water has acted as stevedores for Bilfinger Marine & Offshore Systems GmbH in connection with the installation of the foundations on the Sandbank Offshore Wind Project. Following the installation of the 72 monopiles and transition pieces, the project has entered its final phase where demobilisation is in process. “It has been interesting to be part of the project and assist Bilfinger. We are very

pleased that Bilfinger chose Blue Water for this assignment”, says Brian Sørensen, Business Development Manager in Blue Water Wind. In connection with the demobilisation, Blue Water will also carry out the steve dore operations when the world’s largest hydraulic hammer, MENCK’s MHU3500S, is returned to MENCK from the renter Bilfinger. Also, Blue Water has chartered a vessel which will transport the hammer

from Esbjerg to Lindo. Here, Blue Water Lindo will receive the hammer for storage at our terminal until the next project. “We are proud to deliver a complete solution to MENCK including transport of their hammer as well as stevedoring and agency services at Lindo. This shows Blue Water’s strong position in several Danish ports”, says Nikolaj Buurgaard Sørensen, Operations Manager at Blue Water.

Power from Horns Rev 3 Energinet.dk is building the facilities which lead the electricity from the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm in the North Sea into the onshore grid. The wind farm is being constructed 55 kilometres from Esbjerg and Blue Water is involved in the project in several ways.

“So far, we have discharged two out of three transformer units in Esbjerg. Furthermore, we were in charge of transporting the units to the storage area as well as being responsible for the storage. The agreement also includes transport and loading of the units later this year in

connection with the coming installation”, says Mikkel Puggaard, who is Project Manager at Blue Water. Blue Water has also entered into an agency agreement with one of the Horns Rev 3 topside contractors HSM Offshore BV. “We have ensured accommodation of all crew in one complex. This makes the crew transfer to and from the port a lot easier. We will coordinate all port calls and fulfill any requirement HSM might have during the project. As we are available 24/7, we can render prompt assistance in case of unforeseen events such as illness”, says Mikkel Puggaard.

PORT AGENCY & SERVICES

FL: Bjarne Thorup, Henrik Knude Larsen, Kim Madsen, Steen Bitsch, Jakob Gaarde Uth, Helle Juel and Lars Næsted – all from Danespo.

Ensuring high quality Choosing the wrong vessel may destroy the quality of any product during transportation. Therefore Blue Water Brest focuses on chartering the right vessels for potato export. “We charter speedy, pallet-friendly vessels to ensure that the high quality of the product stays intact throughout the entire transport. Our stevedores and agency department have worked swiftly so that the deliveries could be completed as planned ", says Marianne

Girardin, the Chartering Manager from Blue Water Brest. For years, Blue Water has assisted some of the biggest potato exporters in Denmark and France with chartering of vessels. The potatoes are typically transported to Tunisia and Algeria and the loading operations take place in Brest and Esbjerg. In total, Blue Water chartered ten reefer vessels from various owners like GreenSea, Baltic Shipping and SilverGreen in December 2015.

Increasing activity on Romo In June 2009, Blue Water opened an office on Romo (Island in the North Sea south of Esbjerg) to offer port-related services in connection with the German offshore wind project, Butendiek, to which our good business partner Siemens delivered 80 x 3.6 MW turbines. The project was, however, postponed and the activity was relatively quiet until 2014. In addition to Siemens, we have worked with VBMS who have performed the cable work for the Butendiek and Amrum Bank Projects. We also acted as agents for seven CTVs (Crew Transfer Vessels) and completed

No. 112

several different assignments for some of the major players in the offshore market. Due to the increasing activity, we have employed Kenny Skødt as from 1 September 2015. He is well-known in the local community and has a good relationship with the other companies in the port, the clients and not least the supplier network WSO. We look forward to contributing to the continuing development in the port. Kenny’s background as a technician and export salesman for the maritime industry gives us high hopes for the future.

Increased port activity In 2014, Blue Water acted as agents for 52 vessels in Copenhagen and on Lolland. In 2015, the number increased to 209. Whether this tendency will continue is difficult to say, however, 2016 already looks interesting. “We have several frame agreements in place for port calls at Copenhagen, Koge and Bandholm. These agreements include bulk vessels, tankers, battleships, supply vessels and cruise vessels. We expect a total of around 54 cruise ships calling at Copenhagen, which for several years has been one of the major cruise ports in Europe”, says Michael Steen Steenberg, who is responsible for Blue Water’s port calls on Sealand. The agency department on Sealand is active all over Sealand, Lolland as well as in the southern part of Sweden. The department started with one employee in 2012, who managed 28 port calls. Today, the department has a staff of four and via a focused effort, the number of calls has grown remarkably over the years.

OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Rig parts to Singapore Blue Water has transported over 2,000 cbm of valuable rig equipment from Tallinn, Estonia and Gdynia, Poland to Singapore. Among the equipment was a riser gantry crane and Xmas tree trolleys. The items had varying dimensions with lengths exceeding 39 metres and heights of up to 5.5 metres.

"The large items require both precision during the operation and in general, the project requires thorough preparation, coordination and cooperation between us and our partners in Poland and Estonia ", says Nikolaj Buurgard Sørensen, Project Manager at Blue Water.

The overall scope included the pickup and delivery under vessel's hook from four different locations, a number of challenging trucking transports and chartering of the multi-purpose ship MV "BBC Amethyst". Upon arrival in Singapore, Blue Water also handled the final delivery.

26-metre flexible pipe to Houston In late November 2015, Blue Water received an interesting request for transport of a 26-metre-long Flexible Pipe from Denmark to USA by air for OneSubsea, Houston (a Cameron & Schlumberger company). "Before the transport could commence, we had numerous telephone conferences involving both OneSubsea and the ma-

8

nufacturer of the pipe, National Oilwell in Kalundborg. The aim was to determine how we could design a packing which could support the Flexible Pipe during transport and handling while also being acceptable for the involved hauliers, airport terminals and the airline", says Nikolaj Buurgard Sørensen, Project Manager at Blue Water. Blue Water loaded the Flexible Pipe in Kalundborg, Denmark on 21 December

for a timely delivery to the airport in Luxembourg two days later, where the cargo was loaded on a plane that set its course towards Houston. Here, Blue Water’s team of experts monitored the discharge operation from the aircraft on to the truck and escorted the truck to final destination Magnolia, Texas where the pipe arrived as planned.

OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Sponsor for conference

Blue Water acted as a true partner throughout the project and not just as a supplier.

Juan Antonio Giner Maersk Drilling

There was plenty of opportunities to discuss business. Fina Garber/Blue Water Baku is seen in the middle.

Good partnership In connection with "Maersk Deliverer’s" yard stay in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Blue Water was chosen to provide logistics services. The success of the project was a result of good planning, specialised Blue Water staff on site and a close dialogue with Maersk.

Utilising the expertise “Blue Water’s capabilities and expertise were used for worldwide transportation, warehouse management and quayside crane operations. The challenging local conditions were managed superbly and the key personnel on site received full support from Blue Water’s headquarters", states Juan Antonio Giner, who is the Head of Maersk Drilling Project Procurement. He also points out that all transportation and warehouse management were conducted by Blue Water with zero incidents.

“Blue Water is truly dedicated providing an end-to-end service with the cus tomer in mind”, says Juan Antonio Giner.

Ready for future projects The project was completed ahead of schedule and was characterised by good partnership. The two companies have jointly performed on-site inspections and selected the logistics locations. Looking back, the project has generated many synergies. “We are very proud to receive recognition for our work from one of the biggest global players in the Oil & Gas industry. With this project we have gained experience valuable for our cooperation with Maersk Drilling as well as for future similar projects. Delivering high quality solutions through our flexible organisation is a trademark for Blue Water”, says Anders Maul, Senior Business Development Manager in Blue Water.

Bridge sections through the city A 335-metre bridge for the Panum Institute in the centre of Copenhagen was transported by Blue Water in 16 separate sections arriving from Poland. The longest section was 34 metres long, more than 3 metres wide and weighed over 45 tons. The site location required thorough planning and preparation due to narrow roads and heavy traffic. “Initially, we planned the transport in detail together with Bladt Industries, who was in charge of the construction No. 112

and installation of the bridge. We conducted a thorough analysis of the two site entrances and possible obstacles which might interfere with the transports”, says Kenneth Ruby, Project Manager at Blue Water. The bridge sections were installed at night. Therefore a fixed delivery schedule was agreed to ensure punctual delivery and avoid lost time for Bladt Industries during the installation. All 16 sections were delivered as planned.

Learning more about the Oil and Gas pro jects in the region was the purpose of participating in the CIS Oil and Gas Downstream Conference which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku in December 2015. Blue Water participated as one of the sponsors for the event which was arranged by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). “Our particular interest was the modernisation and upgrade of the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery (HAOR) in Baku. At the moment, all signs indicate that this project will start in 2016”, says Fina Garber, who is the General Manager for Blue Water Baku and attended the summit. After the conference, Blue Water Baku was invited to do a logistics survey on existing infrastructure including ports and roads.

Eight months of hard work completed An eight-month project was completed by Blue Water Houston when offloading PMTAS units from a barge to a laydown area within Industrial Terminals in Houston. The offloading was performed by crane and the scope also included transport to the final storage area. Each PMTAS frame weighed around 47 tons and measured almost 12 metres in height and slightly over 10 metres in width and length. The transport was performed by 2 THPs (towable hydraulic platform trailers). The operation took place in January and was the culmination of eight months of hard work. The project commenced when Blue Water attended the initial loadout from OneSubsea in Bergen, Norway. The frame units will be used for pump installation modules which are installed at sea.

GENERAL CARGO

Closer cooperation Aidex is a leading Aid & Reilef exhibition and Blue Water was present in Brussels when the exhibition was held in November last year. “There are many new players in the market and the tendency is that the NGOs (non-governmental organisations) would like a closer cooperation with private companies. The NGOs want to take advantage of the know-how and experiences that the companies possess”, says Johnny Mortensen who is the Head of Blue Water’s Aid & Relief Logistics. Blue Water’s own stand was perfectly located near the entrance. Following the exhibition, the Aid & Relief department has initiated dialogues with several of the potential clients who visited our stand.

Medical equipment Advantex International – one of Blue Water Amsterdam‘s valued long-time clients – has in cooperation with FanAvari Azmayeshgahi Co. entrusted us with handling the transport of medical equipment and accessories to Iran. The transports require special knowledge of the terms and conditions of sale and export restrictions. “Our professional approach to and knowledge about legislation/compliance enable us to provide an excellent service

when transporting these very costly devices. We are experienced in arranging these transports which we have done for some years now. Over the years, we have built a close relationship with Advantex International, different carriers and the Dutch customs authorities to ensure that every step is taken in compliance with the requirements”, says Bob Tisserand, General Manager for Blue Water Amsterdam. In Iran, the equipment will be installed

Improved traffic in Norway and Sweden The Norway and Sweden department at the Aarhus office have united. The purpose of the merger is to improve the utilisation of the road traffic between the two countries. The merger is part of the plans of fine-tuning the business in a world characterised by tough competition and increased price pressure. “All markets are constantly changing and our clients’ needs change as well. This is why we try to optimise our organisation all the time so that we can continue providing the flexibility that benefits our clients. Ultimately, a strengthened set-up gives our clients a better service and product”, says Henrik Werdermann from Blue Water Aarhus. The merger includes 22 employees who have wide experience with and knowledge of the Norwegian and Swedish markets. Ole Holst Andersen is appointed Manager of the “new” department.

Meeting with UAE Red Crescent Representatives from Blue Water's offices in Dubai, Jordan, Qatar and Denmark met in Dubai in August for an internal Middle East development meeting. The programme included a meeting with the Head of UAE Red Crescent Dubai, Mr Zarouni, and we were very pleased to learn about the projects of the charity organisation. "Blue Water wishes to support UAE Red Crescent Dubai with their projects and hopes that we can together, through their donations and our knowledge, help refugees and others in need. The many

current problems in the Middle East are attempted relieved from Dubai through relief aid to the refugees in and from Yemen, Somalia, Syria and Iraq - places where we with our set-up would be able to help", says Johnny Madsen, the Head of Blue Water's Aid & Relief Logistics. UAE Red Crescent Dubai supports charity and provides relief aid through their cooperation with institutions, major national and international companies and regional and international humanitarian organisations. Urgent delivery As a vessel gearbox weighing 911 kilos was too heavy to be transported on board the commercial flights in Greenland, Blue Water had to assist with a swift solution. Shipping the gearbox by sea freight was not an option as it would take too long. The gearbox was needed for a vessel which was undergoing repairs in Aasiaat. Initially, the airfreight department in Esbjerg took care of the transport of the heavy gearbox to Kangerlussuaq. From here, Blue Water’s air charter department in Billund took over and chartered a helicopter for the remainder of the transport, which was carried out in bright sunshine and according to plan.

in a number of hospitals. The equipment is manufactured at different production facilities in Europe and Blue Water Amsterdam handles the storage and shipping operations. The agreement so far covers six full charters up to the end of March 2016.

The medical equipment has an average weight of 14-15 tons per unit.

Positive development In the past few years, Blue Water has experienced growth within transport of spare parts for aircrafts by air, sea, courier and road. Recently, Blue Water completed the transport of an Airbus EC120 helicopter from Norway to Malaysia by air. "The project was challenging because it involved many parties. The coordination was a comprehensive task in itself and we were working with tight time slots. These kinds of projects often include very valuable cargo and leave no room for mistakes", says Jesper Nielsen, Business Development Manager at Blue Water. Blue Water secured the project through our membership of the TALA network which we joined in 2013. "The membership gives access to the

No. 112

knowledge and expertise required for aviation transports. Also, it is a guarantee for our clients that we live up to very high standards when handling their cargo. Ultimately, the membership enables us to develop our expertise further", says Jesper Nielsen. Blue Water's "control tower" for aviation transport in Scandinavia is located in Copenhagen. The role of the control tower is to supervise all aviation shipments and make sure that high standards are upheld in all aspects of the transport. The AOG desk is also located in Copenhagen, where clients can contact the department for urgent matters 24/7 365.

Special assignment

Sapa – a market leader in aluminium solutions – is one of Blue Water Aarhus’ old clients. Following Sapa’s various acquisitions and mergers, we have been assigned a special task of transporting scrap iron from Tonder in Denmark to Vetlanda in Sweden. The agreement also includes loading operations and return transport of aluminium bars. The first transport was completed right after New Year. To load the sevenmetre-long aluminium bars, we had to use walking-floor trailers where the sides can open. The driver and the forklift operator managed to cooperate very successfully which resulted in an additional six tons being loaded on the second transport. Initially, we will provide the logistics for three months. After this period, it will be decided whether the contract will be renewed for the rest of the year.

Internal HSSEQ audit in HQ Good results, however, with room for improvement. This was the conclusion from the HSSEQ department after an internal audit in Esbjerg. The purpose of audits is to find out whether we follow the defined processes in our daily work. In short, we are checking whether we do as we say. As

a certified office, Esbjerg commit themselves to perform internal audits. This way we control that all demands to quality, environment and work environment certificates are tested thoroughly. The audits also give the HSSEQ department a good indication of how well the Management

System is implemented and maintained and how we can improve. The result was one deviation and seven suggestions for improvement. The audit was performed in a good atmosphere and in general, the HSSEQ department observed an good knowledge of the Management System.

»» General Freight Forwarding »» Reefer Transport »» Marine Logistic »» Project Cargo »» Cross-trade

Blue Water Lisbon was established in March 2015 as part of the extension of the international activities. The office started with seven employees – all with several years of freight forwarding experience. Today, twelve collea gues are divided on two offices: Lisbon and Leixões/Oporto. General freight forwarding was the starting focus, but today Reefer Transport, Marine Logistics and Aid & Relief are part of the daily activities. On a daily basis, Blue Water Portugal handles Project Cargo, Airfreight, Container

Visit from "Emma Maersk" On a Thursday in February, Mogens Nielsen of Blue Water Brest received a very surprising phone call when one of the largest container ships in the world, the "Emma Maersk", entered the port of Brest for a quick dry dock call at Damen Shiprepair. “The captain, Bo Gregersen, called to ask how things were going at Blue Water Brest and whether it was possible to drink a cup of coffee together and catch up for

It was a really nice surprise”, says Mogens Nielsen. Captain Gregersen swiftly arranged that Mogens and his colleague, Fabrice Rolland, could visit him on board the gigantic container ship.

Optimistic wind future Blue Water Singapore has become increasingly involved in the Wind Industry in Asia. Bjarke R. Nielsen has been involved since the start and foresees a promising future About eight years ago, Blue Water Singapore started focusing on the wind industry in Asia. The infrastructure is one of the main challenges causing constraints on both the execution and safety for wind projects in this part of the world. However, Blue Water has successfully completed several projects. “Our breakthrough in Asia came when we completed three successive projects in Australia – Macarthur, Mortens Lane and Mimbida – with a total of 175 turbines delivered. Since then, we have ensured safe deliveries for Caparispisan and Pillilla – two challenging projects in the Philippines”, says Bjarke R. Nielsen who is Business Development Manager for Blue Water in the APAC region.

Working his way up Bjarke started as a trainee in our agency department in Esbjerg at the age of 21. After five years, he was given the opportunity of moving to our Singapore office to a position of Key Account Manager.

24

Later on, he started up our chartering desk in Asia. Two years ago, Bjarke changed direction and is now concentrating on business development. “My primary responsibility is to secure our good relationships with the turbine manufacturers, windfarm developers, equity investors, equipment suppliers, local government authorities etc. As logistics is a vital part of project development to achieve financial closure, we are pushing for Blue Water to become involved as consultants at an early stage. We have received good feedback from our clients on our approach of early involvement”.

Innovative solutions The wind projects in the Philippines were great opportunities for Blue Water to show what we can contribute with in terms of innovative solutions. “Our solutions ranging from roll on/roll of from bar-

ge, construction of a temporary beach landing platform and changing some industry standards to planning a transport which could manoeuvre through narrow streets in the heavily trafficked Manila. It makes me proud to create solutions that give the clients true value”, says Bjarke R. Nielsen.

The future There are several reasons to be optimistic about the future according to Bjarke. “Political awareness about CO2 emissions means that focus on renewable energy has increased. Together with improved competitiveness due to the technological development of wind turbines, this gives us a very good reason to be optimistic about more wind projects being developed in Asia in the near future”.
