The magnificent growth continues For the third successive year, Blue Water Shipping presents a record profit.

The progress in 2012 included all business segments, and we continue the positive development of our business in 2013 and Projects where we have built a leading position, with offices in the most important locations for the industry, through our strong and comprehensive operational set-up based on in-house competences.

2012 will – irrespective of the pace of the development in the company – always be a historic year for Blue Water Shipping. We celebrated the company’s 40th anniversary. But there were plenty of other things to be happy about for the company’s staff and clients in a year with a wide range of new and exciting projects and initiatives.

We continue developing Blue Water as a strong and valuable business partner for our clients by handling their transport and logistics needs through personal service and innovative solutions of high quality.

Financially, 2012 was a also a successful year. We succeeded in creating an overall result, which we are proud of – a record turnover of EUR 555 million and a record profit of EUR 11,4 million. We have once again succeeded in growing faster than our competitors. We see this as a positive response from our clients proving that our service-oriented model with customised solutions is working. It also proves that Blue Water has some of the most qualified and dedicated employees who every day make a unique effort in servicing our clients.

With hard-pressed economies and companies and a declining level of activity in many industries all over the world, extra focus is necessary for establishing the perfect business with our clients, for maintaining the relationships and for performing in a way that makes us unique. Therefore we shall always be prepared to develop our business and be adaptable in order to maintain our strong position.

In 2012, we established new offices in Rødby, Belfast and Hamburg. Also in 2013, new locations will be added to Blue 2

Water’s world map. Offices in Frederikshavn, Sydney, Stavanger, Marseille and Munich have opened – and more will follow later this year. This way we act in accordance with our strategy to be close to our clients. We know that it is of great significance for our quality and service that we have a close, personal dialogue with our clients and that we locally are able to make fast and efficient decisions together.

Denmark is a natural home market for Blue Water and we hold a top 5 position.

In the years to come, we will focus our efforts on making all of Scandinavia as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland our home market. We will expand with the same principle of subsidiarity as in Denmark – with many offices and large focus on increased value creation in the entire supply chain for existing and future clients.

With the growth of Blue Water during recent years – and the desired future growth of the company – we must make an extra effort to strengthen our strong values and very special culture. Selected events 2012 In February, we opened our 14th office in Denmark – in Rødby on the island of Lolland – primarily to handle the activities in connection with the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany.

In May, we set up in Belfast – in partnership with Michael F. Ewings Shipping. Main focus is port agency and marine-related activities for the offshore wind industry.

On 1 August, Blue Water reached 1000 in number of staff. In the mideighties the number was 100 and in 2003 we were 500 employees.

With a clearance of just a few centimetres, Blue Water was the first company in history to transport a shipment (17.35 metres wide) through the Volga-Don river system. The record project to the Caspian Sea was a specially designed jack-up rig.

In December, Kurt Skov stepped down as managing director and handed over the responsibility to Kim Hedegaard Sørensen who joined Blue Water with more than 17 years of all-round and international shipping and transport experience. Kurt Skov is now executive chairman of the board.

On Saturday 1 September, Blue Water’s 40th jubilee was celebrated with a grand party in Esbjerg, where it had all started. On the same occasion, Kurt Skov celebrated his 40th anniversary. 800 employees from all over the world participated in the party. As part of the festivities, the Blue Water song “The Spirit of Blue Water” was recorded by the staff. The company jubilee was also celebrated with clients and business relations at the headquarters on Friday 31 August.

Almost 2000 Danish and international guests participated in the reception which also marked the official opening of the 10,000 m2 headquarters.

In September, a new office was established in Hamburg, primarily focusing on transport and logistics to the wind turbine industry.

First FPSO project in Rio completed Almost two years ago, Blue Water signed a contract with SBM Offshore to handle all logistics in connection with “FPSO Cidade de Paraty”. This was the first major contract awarded to Blue Water in Rio. Now, almost two years later, the vessel has departed Angra Dos Reis in Brazil, and it is time for an evaluation. The project has been carried by what is most characteristic for Blue Water. Good cooperation, unique services and dedicated employees.

“The cooperation between the involved Blue Water offices in Amsterdam, Esbjerg, Houston, Rotterdam, Rio de Janeiro and Singapore has been very good which is also to be said about the coopera-

tion with our client SBM Offshore”, says Thomas Bek, Global Manager for Oil and Energy. The project included several thousands of shipments by road, sea and air and several large charters of ships and an AN124 aircraft. Thomas Bek particularly points out a couple of other things which make this project special.

“The IT integration, which was made to match the clients system for the “Cidade de Paraty” assignment, is a major factor for the success of the project. Apart from that, I will also mention the effort that all the employees have

contributed with in this project – some have worked day and night to create the best result and that deserves appreciation. With this project, we once again prove that we have the expertise to perform even the most challenging tasks”, concludes Thomas Bek.

Lamprell Energy awards transport of a second jack-up rig Lamprell Energy has again selected Blue Water Shipping as their transport partner to deliver a LeTourneau S116E jack-up rig from their Hamriyah Yard in Dubai to Russia. Over the years, Blue Water has become one of the major players within transportation of giant structures to the Caspian Sea through the Russian river system. ”We selected Blue Water Shipping due to their competitive bid, but more importantly due to their many years of experience with large projects in the Caspian area including transport of rigs and other large modules”, says Kevin Isles, Executive Vice President, Lamprell Energy.

The contract will cover the transport of a dismantled jack-up rig from Hamriyah, Dubai via the Volga-Don river system to a yard in Russia. The transport covers 4 part shipments and will commence in the summer of 2013 with expected comple-

tion in the spring of 2014. The total project will exceed 100,000 cbm and cover lifts of up to 1,000 tons and modules

Blue Water Shipping acquires NJK International Spedition & Transport in Rødby

In February, Blue Water Shipping in Iceland transported a driller cabin and a yoke to be used on an oil platform in Norway. ”All the way from Reykjavik to Seydisfjordur - a stretch of 700 km - the transport was escorted by police due to the size of the cargo. The weather was in our favour, although it can be severe at this time of year, and the client was very satisfied with the result”, says Linda Björk Gunnlaugsdóttir from Blue Water’s office in Reykjavik.

Blue Water in Iceland are specialists in transporting out of gauge cargo, and it is the only company in the country offering ro/ro service. In addition, the office in Reykjavik offers export and is distributing fresh and frozen fish to Europe as well as being strong in import to Iceland.

On 1 February, Blue Water Shipping took official ownership of the activities and staff of NJK International Spedition & Transport in Rødby in order to strengthen the company’s position and contribute to the expected activities from the Fehmarn Belt project. Carsten Eskildsen, Director for Blue Water Shipping and responsible for ordinary transport and logistics solutions, points out that the synergy was a decisive factor in the acquisition.

“Both companies have significant experience and knowledge of project transports as well as general transport and logistics.

Blue Water wants to continuously expand our activities to create value for our clients. This is the reason why we pursue the possibilities available to us, so that we can always offer the best solutions in transport and logistics”.

Organisationally, the office will belong under Blue Water Shipping in Copenhagen, and the daily responsibility for the office in Rødby will be placed in the hands of the former co-owner of NJK, Søren Krog. In addition, he will take over responsibility for Blue Water’s road transports at the Copenhagen office.

Blue Water ”down under”

Flexible transport solution for rebuilding efforts in Oslo

In January, Blue Water Shipping opened another office - this time in Sydney, Australia – to primarily focus on import and export to and from Scandinavia. ”For a while now, we have estimated the possibility of an Australian set-up, as we consider this country a vital growth area to many Scandinavian companies. Experience shows that many companies consider Australia as being ”too far away” and therefore a difficult place in which to set up. This is where we enter the picture as the liaison for the companies so they do not have to establish their own office and warehouse”, says Jesper H. Hansen, Business Development Manager Sea & Air Scandinavia.

Blue Water has good warehouse facilities in Sydney and part of the concept in Australia is to offer office and storage facili-

ties for Scandinavian companies enabling them to build product stocks close to the consumer market. In addition to the transport between continents, Blue Water can offer distribution and other services.

The office in Sydney is manned by Christian Rode Hansen and Kenneth Falkesgaard Hansen, both from Blue Water’s sea freight division in Esbjerg, who have great experience and a strong network. ”Luckily, Blue Water has good experience in setting up new offices, and throughout the preparation phase, we had a lot of help from the Danish Consulate General which contributed to us setting up without any significant challenges”.

Blue Water Shipping’s current business partner, AquaAir, will continue to be part of the set-up, and the two companies will have shared office facilities in Sydney.

Blue Water in Copenhagen assisted in the efforts of releasing a container with 18 tons of building material to be used in the rebuilding efforts of the government buildings in Oslo, Norway.

The cargo arrived by ship in the port of Hamburg in Germany in the evening and was, according to plan, supposed to continue to Oslo. ”The problem was that the cargo could not be delivered before deadline if the transport continued by sea”, explains Logistics Manager Anders Olsen. Therefore Blue Water handled all administrative matters in order to have the cargo released so the transport could continue by truck. ”We managed to have the cargo released only one day after its arrival. Six hours later, the cargo was loaded on a truck and left the Blue Water terminal in Hamburg heading for Oslo, says Anders Olsen.

Flexible logistics solutions save resources

Production in China has for a long time been an attractive alternative to production in Europe. However, increasing costs in China intensify the demand for developing alternative solutions in order to maintain the economic as well as the production-related advantage. Innovation in transport and logistics will save many resources, explains the manager for Blue Water’s UK activities, Michael Poder Hansen.

“In Blue Water, we have a long experience in the optimising of our clients’ logistics chains. Through a close dialogue, we find and suggest solutions that will save our clients not only time, but also money.

The idea is that we offer quality and flexibility in the transport so that the clients can concentrate on the development and manufacturing of their products”.

A special solution could be consolida-

tion and packing of client specific orders in the Far East. This is possible with Blue Water’s Pick & Pack concept, where the individual orders are packed and prepared in for instance Shanghai and are

ready for distribution to the shops or end customers after import to Denmark. This way the shops will receive their orders much faster.

Wind Logistics The number of offshore wind farms is increasing, and with wind logistics being one of Blue Water’s major business areas, the company is represented by its own offices in Denmark, France, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Germany and Holland.

Blue Water has expanded its wind services and offers transport of foundations for offshore wind turbines as part of the continuing development within the business area.

As a strategic part of the expectations for the future, Blue Water Shipping has partnered with Michael F. Ewings Shipping in Belfast. The office is operational and ready to service contractors and operators for the upcoming projects, which are to be erected outside Belfast in the Irish Sea. In England, expectations to the partnership are high ”Blue Water has been and is currently involved in many projects - e.g. load outs from Esbjerg to London Array and Lincs.

In respect of the Anholt project, we act as one-point-of-contact to all suppliers and operators via our Grenaa office. We have a positive outlook on the future, as we experience that our services and products will create value for our clients”, says Jacob Kjærgaard.

Strengthened Nordic network In recent years, Blue Water Shipping has increased its focus on a strengthened position and network throughout the Nordic countries with sea, air and road transport solutions. ”We consider the Nordic countries as one collective region, and have subsequently streamlined our sea, air and road activities, so that our clients and business partners receive a uniform excellence in service and in their experience of Blue Water, regardless of which office they contact in Scandinavia”, says Jesper Hetebrügge Hansen, Business Development Manager for Sea & Air Scandinavia.

Blue Water has upgraded its Nordic offices considerably to follow the potential and live up to the general demand.

At the end of 2011, Blue Water Sweden acquired the company ”Sea Air Logi6

stics”, and the office in Gothenburg has enforced its position in particular within the oversea market. The Swedish office has great ambitions within all means of transport and regards 2013 with optimism.

In Finland, the sea and air departments have been strengthened. The Helsinki office facilities have been upgraded, and skilled employees are eager to develop the activities further in the years to come.

The Oslo office in Norway has seen a fantastic 2012 with increased activities and new clients. The staff has been expanded to cater for the many new clients, who have seen the advantages of working with Blue Water’s experienced freight forwarders.

Blue Water’s strategy for the Nordic countries has also resulted in an enforced

partner and agency network. ”Today, we appear as a strong and attractive Nordic partner to agents around the world. This means that we can give our clients a unique experience, regardless of their location, and which logistics challenges they are facing”, explains Jesper Hetebrügge Hansen.

Ultramodern accommodation vessel ready for new assignments At this moment, the accommodation vessel “Ocean Atlantic” is in the British port of Tilbury ready for new assignments after an extensive renovation. The vessel matches the demand in the market and in addition to the newly restored interior facilities, the vessel offers deck capacity for containers, equipment, workshop facilities and welding activities.

The oil and gas industry has been using accommodation vessels for decades, but in the offshore wind industry, in particular, a significant increase in the future demand is expected as the accommodation vessels become a major part of the offshore wind operations.

Comfort at Sea, who promotes the vessel, was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between Blue Water Shipping and International Shipping Partners Inc., Miami and offers accommodation vessels to the worldwide offshore industry. “Ocean Atlantic” is the latest purchase to a fleet to-

talling 23 vessels. With a length of almost 140 metres and 118 cabins, the vessel

Blue Water in landmark offshore project In January, Blue Water Shipping loaded the ro/ro vessel ”Seatruck Pace” in the port of Esbjerg with the first turbines for the Gwynt Y Mor offshore wind farm in Great Britain. Blue Water has been awarded the transport contract for 130 Siemens wind turbines from Esbjerg to Mostyn in Great Britain. It is a landmark project within the wind transport industry as it is the first large-scale project using a ro/ro ferry solution to transport the turbines. ”This is very exciting for us as we have been developing machinery and equipment over the last years in close coopera-

tion with our clients. This process includes special focus on optimisation of terminal operations and ro/ro solutions, and with the arrival of ”Seatruck Pace” in Esbjerg for the first of more than 45 shipments, we have reached an important goal”, says Business Development Manager Jacob Kjærgaard.

Blue Water has full responsibility for the entire logistics chain from terminal in Esbjerg to Mostyn. This includes chartering of the ”Seatruck Pace” - owned by shipping line Seatruck which is part of the Clipper Group – and stevedore services in both Esbjerg and Mostyn.

Increase in French fish import More than 350 import containers of frozen fish in the French port of Brest in 2012 compared to 30 containers the first year, and clients saving money, that is the result of years of hard work from Blue Water in France. They have been promoting the port of Brest as a new and very competitive port of entry for frozen fish. ”The Western part of France is one of two main areas for the fish industry in France and this new logistic solution has been welcomed as a very good alternative by various importers”, says Manager Fabrice Rolland.

He continues: ”We believe that the savings our clients benefit from, in the form of minimised costs for trucks and reduction of demurrage and detention costs due to the very fast transit in the port, can help us in making an even better result in 2013”.

Riser joints handled with care In December, Blue Water Shipping in Esbjerg was awarded a project transport of 35 riser joints for one of our trusted clients within the oil & gas industry.

Blue Water has expert knowledge in handling these ”fragile” riser joints, as our own stevedores and foremen have experience from a large number of transports all over the world. For this project, the riser joints were moved from Dampier, Australia to Port Klang in Malaysia by both road and sea.

Loading of the 35 riser joints started in the morning under close supervision of a superintendent. Due to very heavy wind and lightning, the loading operation lasted for two days. All items were, however, safely loaded on board, lashed and secured, and the vessel departed from Dampier on the same evening heading directly towards Port Klang where it arrived one week later.

Power plant equipment from Belgium to Indonesia Blue Water Shipping was responsible for the sea freight when 1,500 tons of power plant equipment were delivered safely to the site of the Kaltim Baru Gas Power Plant in East Kalimantan, Indonesia in early January. The transport included more than 5,000 cbm of cargo and it was an exciting project which involved Blue Water offices in both France and Singapore. ”Overall, the project showed great cooperation and the assignment was well executed by our offices in Singapore and

France together with our Indonesian partner”, says Project Manager Florian Pinz of the Singapore office.

The cargo was delivered to the site through a combined sea and road transport that commenced in the Belgian town of Antwerp. While Blue Water Shipping carried out the sea freight, our partner from Indonesia arranged barges at the Samarinda anchorage in Indonesia plus the final road transport from the anchorage to the site in Kalimantan.

The transport from Belgium to Indonesia included more than 400 packages, which were shipped on two direct sailings and included 2 generators, each weighing 149 tons, and 2 gas turbines each weighing 96 tons.

Blue Water Shipping opens a new office in Frederikshavn In January, Blue Water opened a new office in Frederikshavn to primarily concentrate on port agency, stevedoring and other port-related activities.

“The expected increase in the activities in Frederikshavn is one of the reasons for the establishment”, says shipbroker Peter Højer who is in charge of the new office.

Peter is a familiar face at the harbour, due to his previous involvement in port activities, and posesses great experience from similar jobs, the necessary competences and a large network of both clients and business partners. Blue Water is well established in Northern Jutland and the new office will contribute to the further development of the activities.

Agent for the world’s largest installation vessels Blue Water’s agency department has since November been acting as agent and handling stevedore operations for a number of the world’s largest installation vessels.

”Sea Worker” In November, “Sea Worker” of A2SEA, arrived at the port of Esbjerg to mobilise before the installation of wind turbines at Anholt Offshore Wind Farm. With its 111 x 3.6 Siemens turbines, this wind farm will be the largest in Denmark. “Sea Worker” left Esbjerg later in November bound for Grenaa where Blue Water was also acting as agent. “Sea Bravo” and “Sea Echo” assisted “Sea Worker” on arrival and departure and additional activity in Esbjerg resulted in Blue Water being appointed agent for the vessel “Sea Energy” as well.

”Sea Installer” In December, the latest newly built vessel of A2SEA ”Sea Installer” arrived from China to Esbjerg to be prepared for its first assignment, transport of two Siemens 6MW test turbines which were to be installed at Gunfleet Sands, UK around New Year. After this assignment, “Sea Installer” became part of the Anholt project where A2SEA have four installation vessels involved in the installation. The massive crane of “Sea Installer” can lift up to 800 tons and move eight to ten offshore wind turbines at a time.

”MPI Discovery”

The third big vessel that has been in our care is “MPI Discovery” which has assisted with the installation of the world’s largest offshore wind farm, London Array, where all 175 turbines where shipped out of Esbjerg. “MPI Discovery” continued from Esbjerg with installations at the British offshore wind turbine project Lincs.

Busy port agents in France Blue Water Shipping in France have been busy with port agency activities and they still have their hands full servicing various large vessels visiting the port of Brest where Blue Water’s office is located.

Shipbroker Frédéric Jullien from the office in Brest explains: ”From October to January, we were busy looking after the reefer vessels calling at the port to load potatoes. During that period, we loaded a total of 15,000 tons of potatoes. At the turn of the year, we were busy servicing the global marine cable ship ”CS Wave Sentinel” which loaded 144 km submarine cables for the North Sea”.

It seems like the busy activity in port agency will continue this year. In early January, shipowner Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) appointed Blue Water agent for the C/S “Ile De Brehat” which came into dock for repair work on one of the propellers. ”At the same time, we were also appointed agents for the geo-seismic vessel MV “Oceanic Phoenix” which is owned

by CGG Veritas and operated by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs. The vessel came to Brest for a short technical stop in dry

dock”, says Frédéric Jullien.

The activity continued in February when Blue Water acted as agent for a vessel called ”City of Hamburg” from the joint venture FRET CETAM/LDA. This is one of three ro/ro vessels dedicated to transport AIRBUS parts between production plants in Hamburg, Mostyn, St. Nazaire, Cadix, Toulouse, Tunis and Naples.

The vessel “Ile De Brehat” came into dock for repair work on one of the propellers.

Since December last year, Blue Water Shipping in France has been busy acting as agent for this vessel and several others.

Blue Water Lindø appointed agent for ”Borgholm Dolphin”

Blue Water Shipping at Lindø Industrial Park is appointed agent for the accommodation rig ”Borgholm Dolphin” which arrived at Lindø for renovation in February. ”We will take care of inward clearance and coordination with the port as well as coordinate crew change and various ad hoc assignments for Dolphin Drilling”, explains Line Broxgaard Bach from Blue Water’s Lindø office.

Borgholm Dolphin Pte. Ltd. owns ”Borgholm Dolphin” and has ordered the renovation of the rig. Upon arrival, the accommodation rig will be in dock 3 where the renovation takes place over the next two-three months. The renovation job is comprehensive. Around 250 workers are expected to have their hands full almost 24 hours a day on board the 108-metrelong and 70-metre-wide rig.

Logistics and stevedore operations for gas project in the North Sea

Blue Water Shipping coordinates the logistics and is also responsible for stevedore operations in the ongoing ”H7 Platform Removal Project” which includes the removal of a gas platform located in the German part of the North Sea. The installation vessel ”Pacific Orca” also known as the largest offshore installation vessel in the world - called into the port of Esbjerg in February to mobilise for the project. ”Blue Water was appointed logistics coordinator and was also responsible for the stevedore activities during the mobilisation in Esbjerg and the work offshore. Blue Water Shipping has carried out a transport of various big steel structures, to be used for subsea pipe laying purposes, on behalf of one of our trusted offshore clients. In December, the coaster safely berthed in Schiedam, Holland alongside ”Castoro Sei”, a gigantic pipe laying vessel, which has recently worked on a 2,500-kilometre gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany. The loading operation, which was carried out from the quay and from ”Castoro Sei”, commenced in the morning hours and was carried out by sheer leg crane barge ”AJAX”.

The entire operation was closely monitored by Blue Water representatives and after approx 12 hours of operation, all 9 structures/1,500 cbm were safely loaded on board, lashed and secured. Afterwards, the vessel took off in the direction of Trieste, Italy where all structures were reloaded and installed on the offshore construction support vessel ”Normand Cutter”.

In the spring of 2007, Norwegian offshore company SubSea7 laid the pipes that bypassed the H7 gas platform. Also for this project, Blue Water was responsible for port agency, coordinating the logistics and carrying out all stevedore activities.

The Norwegian company AF Group (AFG) has been awarded the contract for the decommissioning of the H7 gas platform. To perform the job, AFG has chartered a wind farm installation vessel from Danish shipowners Swire Blue Ocean.

FPSO projects in Singapore Blue Water Shipping has shipped two steam boilers, measuring approx. 8 x 10 x 9 metres and weighing 160 tons each, and two economizers, measuring around 6 x 3 x 5 metres and weighing 35 tons each, from Nagasaki, Japan to Singapore. Under the supervision of Blue Water Singapore’s own supercargo, the cargo was safely loaded and discharged. ”The cargo arrived on the supplier’s barges and was hooked on to a heavylift crane of a chartered vessel. In the next step, the crane lifted the cargo onto the ship’s deck. This is the second time Blue Water Singapore is involved in the transportation of those boilers and economisers from Japan - once again a challenging and exciting project to be part of”, says Project Manager Florian Pinz of the Singapore office.

The boilers and economisers will undergo some final touchup work before they will be installed on the FPSO unit ”EnQuest Producer” at the Keppel Fels Shipyard in Singapore.

The project activities are going well and around Christmas time last year, the Blue Water offices in Malaysia and Singapore cooperated in transporting a chemical injection skid - used for chemical dosing 10

- from Port Klang in Malaysia to Singapore.

In less than a week after the contract was signed, Blue Water Malaysia commenced the loading of the skid onto the chartered barge. A special multi-axle trailer was used to transport the skid to the quayside, where a crane loaded it onto the barge.

Operation commenced in the early

morning and the skid was safely loaded on board, lashed and secured later that day.

The skid measures around 8 x 4 x 11 metres and will be delivered onto ”FPSO N’goma” - a Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit - which is also being converted at the Keppel Fels Shipyard in Singapore.

Largest contract ever with Keppel FELS The global leader in the design, construction and repair of mobile offshore rigs, Singapore based Keppel FELS Shipyard, has awarded a significant contract to Blue Water Shipping. It is the largest contract Blue Water Shipping has ever signed with Keppel FELS and it covers heavy-lift transportation of 5 semi-submersible rigs.

Jason Goh, Blue Water’s Regional General Manager for Asia Pacific, says: ”We are absolutely delighted that we have been entrusted by our global key customer to arrange the heavy-lift transportation for this important project”. The contract covers 5 shipments by dry and wet tow and will commence in the second half of 2013 with expected completion in 2016. The total project will exceed 60,000 tons.

Complete logistics for Icelandic power plant Blue Water Shipping has commenced the first out of several transports of components to an Icelandic power plant. Several parts of the cargo were out of gauge and transported from various European suppliers to Iceland.

“Blue Water is involved in all logistic facets, such as customs clearance, trucking, terminal handling, sea freight etc.”, explains Project Manager Nikolaj Buurgaard Sørensen.

Ahead of the project, Blue Water visited VG Power AB in the Swedish town Västerås to present both the competences and explain more about the oil, gas and industrial project division of the company.

The same day, VG Power presented one

of their biggest ongoing projects - a hydro electric power plant - called Búðarháls.

At Búðarháls, water reservoirs are used to operate turbines and thus create energy as the turbines are connected to large generators. As the project is the first largescale infrastructure project started by the Icelandic government since the large financial crisis in 2008, it attracts a lot of attention and publicity.

After the visit in Västerås, we prepared and composed our tender material and the contract was signed in October last year. The project is expected to run until July/August with ongoing deliveries evenly distributed over the entire period.

activities in Iceland In December, Blue Water Shipping in Reykjavik held a reception in their new office facilities at Fornubudum 5, 220 Hafnarfjordur in Iceland. The new address is close to the port in Hafnarfjordur, near the water, with the fish market as the closest neighbour, and only eight kilometres from the town centre.

“The office is connected to a storage place for around 5,000 pallets, which gives us more space than we had at our previous address in the centre of town. We are now located in the centre of the port area, and this is of course an advantage as we are now closer to the activities”, explains Director Steingrimur Sigurdsson.

The reception was a good opportunity to meet with our clients and business partners.

Intensified focus on Greenland mining industry Blue Water wishes to become involved in the mining industry as logistics provider.

We have for quite some time, in both Greenland and from our Aalborg office, intensified our focus on this business segment and on the development, and this was also the reason why Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen and Ole Bøgh Ulriksen from Aalborg attended the international mineral conference, PDAC, in Toronto in March.

“We met the mining companies, who have already shown an interest in Greenland, as well as other mining companies who might be interesting cooperation partners. During the conference we also learned more about when to expect the mining companies to commence the actual underground work” explains Ole Bøgh Ulriksen and goes on: “As it looks now, there is every indication that no definite mining will take place in 2013, as the mining companies are still applying for licences, neither are their financing in place – except for a few companies. However, we see great exploration activity, in connection with which we send many samples from Greenland to

various laboratories all over the world”, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen.

For the trip, Grønlands Arbjedsgiverforening (the Greenland Employers’ Association) had allied themselves with the Danish Consul General. The event included presentations on the history of mineral exploration, the experiences of Greenland companies and the process

of finding cooperation partners. Later in the day, we participated in a Greenland conference at the exhibition where the participating companies were represented with their own stands, which made it possible for us to establish new relations.

We were part of the Greenland delegation and were represented on a collective stand together with the majority of the delegation’s 54 participants.

Good evaluation on North Atlantic project Last year, Blue Water handled a major logistics project for the Dubai based seismic company Polarcus DMCC, who were operating for oil in Greenland on behalf of Shell and Maersk. We set up a temporary satellite office in Upernavik, manned

by Kasper Junge and Bent Olsen, acting as agents for Polarcus’ three seismic vessels as well as nine supply vessels. After completion of the project, an evaluation was carried out between Ole Bøgh Ulriksen from Aalborg and Kasper Junge from Nuuk and Polarcus DMCC, Dubai. It was a success and we met positive response from the client who would like to use our service again for similar assignments in Greenland.

On the same occasion, Claus Laursen and Stephen Folke Andersen, both from Blue Water’s Dubai office, participated with us in another meeting with Polarcus DMCC for discussion of future assignments. This was another positive experience where also the local relations were established.

Blue Water’s offices in Copenhagen, Aalborg, Reykjavik, Nuuk and Sisimiut were involved in the project. The Danish offices served as hubs for ship’s & survey equipment and provisions to the vessels prior to the shipment by sea and air to Uper12

navik. Reykjavik was the primary hub for crew logistics for Polarcus’ three vessels.

The offices in Nuuk and Sisimiut acted as port agents during project commencement in July and during the demobilistion phase in October. Upernavik handled coordination of spares, provisions and crew change as well as the clearance opera-

tions in connection with port calls. “The project ended up three times as extensive as expected by Polarcus DMCC. Still, the entire operation was very successful and we feel well prepared for similar future projects in Greenland”, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen.

Cruise Shipping Miami Blue Water was as usual represented, as part of the collective stand under the Danish Exporters’ Association, at the annual cruise exhibition in Miami “Cruise Shipping Miami”. Once again, we participated under Blue Water flag as well as under the auspices of our cruise network, Cruise & Marine Logistic Network, which we own jointly with Priano Marchelli from Italy. We profiled our activities and services within the fields of logistics and warehousing in particular, but we also had focus on port agency services in Denmark.

Gulfood Interesting contacts

Once again, the Gulfood exhibition saw a record number of exhibitors and visitors. The exhibition was held in Dubai and has developed into the most important annual global food fair. The event is interesting for many of our clients as it specifically focuses on the Middle East markets, Africa and Central Asia. This year, Blue Water was represented by Kim Thue Andersen from Fort Lauderdale and Frank Madsen from Esbjerg, who seized the opportunity to meet a lot of existing clients and establish new contacts.

Innovation inspiration Blue Water participated in EWEA-2013 (European Wind Energy Association) with representatives from Denmark and France. The event took place in Vienna, Austria and attracted in particular visitors from Eastern Europe. “For us, the exhibition was a success as an immense amount of people paid a visit to our stand. We focused on profiling our onshore activities and received positive response. It is important for us to be represented at this exhibition as we receive a lot of input as to which direction the business is moving and to the future trends.

Successful trainee campaign Blue Water’s trainee campaign was kickstarted under the slogan “Best in the field” and the name is not a random choice. “Naturally we want to employ the best and most talented young people as trainees in Blue Water. The company is an attractive workplace where young people with the right drive, talents and commitment in their job are offered an exciting and interesting apprenticeship”, explains Aase Bjerregaard Christensen, HR responsible at Blue Water. The number of applications exceeded 500, of which 55 candidates were invited to a challenging trainee event at the head office in Esbjerg, arranged jointly with the consultancy company Bruun & Partnere. At the event, the trainee candidates learned about the working day and traineeship for freight forwarding or accounting trainees in Blue Water. They were also challenged through workshops, where some of the present trainees, persons responsible for education as well as our office managers were active co-players. It was a successful day, and next day 30 of the participating candidates were offered a future career in Blue Water. “It is indeed positive that such a large number of applicants look upon Blue Water as an interesting and attractive educational company. We do not make a secret of the fact that our trainees are Blue Water’s future and we place great emphasis on the right per-

Competence boost strengthens development Staff development has always been an important factor for Blue Water as it fosters the company’s growth, and within recent years, focus on skills upgrading of the staff has been intensified. “The staff is Blue Water’s most important asset and we take pride in giving our clients an experience of being served by the most qualified employees offering the best solutions also in the future. We have therefore decided to increase our focus on the educational competences - for the individual employee and for the company in general. The transport industry is characterised by strong business competences whereas the strategic and managerial level might be strengthened through increased theoretical and academic education. Two of our employees, Sales and Business Develop14

ment Manager Jacob Kjærgaard and Management Assistant Per Holm Nørgaard, are currently expanding their competences as they have just recently completed a mini MBA and a pre MBA respectively. They are both contemplating to study for a full MBA in order to strengthen their own competences for the undoubted benefit of Blue Water, the transport business and themselves. “My mini MBA has given me an appetite for learning more. My theoretical ballast and knowledge, which I can put into practice, have increased, and I want to enhance my competences within steering processes, management and implementation to safeguard our competitiveness through optimisation”, says Jacob Kjærgaard.

“I need a solid theoretical platform in my

job position, so for me a full MBA would also be very useful. The full MBA gives an in-depth, theoretical insight and concrete knowledge of corporate management.

For me this would be a useful tool in tackling the daily challenges”, concludes Per Holm Nørgaard.

Eco-friendly energy for Chile

Last year in December, Blue Water started transporting the world’s largest solar thermal installation to Chile. Around 400 TEU are shipped from Denmark and Vietnam to the Gaby mine in the northern part of the South American country. Blue Water coordinates the transport including loading at the manufacturer’s premises and delivery in the mine in close cooperation with our South American agent, Ultramar, who are deeply involved in the mining industry in South America - an industry we want to invest more efforts in.

It is a demanding task which requires coordination and pre-investigation of local

conditions in Chile as well as the customs procedures. There are great demands to the safety in the mine and therefore many procedures which we have to comply with, drivers who have to be approved etc. When the project is completed, Blue Water will have handled around 25-30 shipments including both regular 20 and 40 foot containers and 40 foot open top containers. When the solar thermal plant is completed in June, it is expected to produce 50,000 MWh/50 GWh a year which covers most of the mine’s heating requirements.

An infrequent visitor Very occasionally, we see a gas tanker in the port of Esbjerg. However, recently this happened twice within a couple of weeks. In February, “B Gas Lotta” called into port, and we acted as agents while she discharges her cargo of 920 tons propane gas from Gdansk in Poland to Kosangas in Esbjerg.

Local presence creates activity at Lindø The local presence and expertise is often both a determining parameter for the clients and one of the reasons why Blue Water in Lindø, Denmark has acted as agents for the hotel rig ”Borgholm Dolphin” and the installation vessels ”Sea Energy” of A2SEA and ”Pacific Osprey” of Swire Blue Ocean. ”Primarily, we have been chosen for the assignements because we have an office here close to the port with 24/7 service. We are always available and it is very important for us to offer this kind of security and comfort to our clients as well as letting them know where to contact us at all times”, says Line Broxgaard Bach of Blue Water Lindø. ”Besides, it is important for us that we live up to our own ambition to create good solutions in cooperation with our clients and build mutual trust and relations in the process”. Blue Water has handled customs clearance, crew change, visa retrieval for crew members and various ad hoc assignments. ”Borgholm Dolphin” has been at Lindø for renovation since February and will stay in the port until May. ”Sea Energy” and the new installation ship ”Pacific Osprey” both arrived in March and are expected to leave the port in week 15.

Minister visiting Esbjerg In April, the Minister of Economic affairs and of the Interior, Margrethe Vestager, paid a visit to Blue Water’s headquarters to give a presentation for a number of the city’s business people. Around 80 key industry leaders attended the event and listened to the minister talking about the scope of growth for the trade & industry and how she sees a dynamic private sector as a prerequisite for welfare.

The ideal vessel for the assignment Blue Water Shipping was in March assigned an urgent transport of two loading frames for offshore wind turbine blades from Esbjerg to Ijmuiden in Holland for immediate delivery on board the installation vessel “Sea Jack” which was waiting in the port. The frames – measuring 12.5 metres in width, 10 metres in height and weighing 55 tons – had to be transported in an upright position. This made heavy demands on the securing of the goods and selection of vessel. Furthermore, iron supporters had to be created and welded on to each frame. Blue Water’s stevedore team assisted and provided cranes to lift the frames into an upright position for the welding operation Afterwards they moved the frames to the quayside ready

to be loaded on board the MV “ Natali”, which we had chartered and which was ideal for the assignment as the bridge was up front. This way the captain maintains a spacious view when placing high cargo on deck. After a successful loading operation, MV “Natali” shaped course directly for Ijmuiden, where she arrived 30 hours later for immediate discharging onto “Sea Jack”.

The transport and the preceding preparation/assistance were made possible partly by Blue Water’s extensive set-up in Esbjerg, enabling fast assistance by our own stevedores and equipment, and partly due to our good contacts to the shipping lines which make it possible to find the ideal vessel for a specific cargo.

Cost savings with short sea solutions Short sea door/door container solutions in Europe have developed into an attractive alternative to ordinary road transport, and great savings may be gained.

The further the destination, the greater the savings gained, but sometimes, we also see that even short distances, such as Denmark to Holland, will produce significant savings, especially if the collection and delivery points are located close to the ports. Even a transfer of just 15% of the client’s total transport volume will provide a significant saving. There are no delays in the way of traffic queues or roadworks, and many clients experience a reduction of transport damage with container transport.

A short sea solution is also environmentally friendly and ideal for regular shipments of volume cargo and heavy cargo.

The booking process is the same for a short sea/trailer or container solution, and the transports are often handled by the same freight forwarders. This way, our staff is able to optimise solutions depending on client requirements, primarily in terms of price and transit time.

Aalborg visiting Gothenburg When Blue Water Aalborg paid a visit to their Swedish colleagues in Gothenburg in March they received a very warm welcome from General Manager Björn E. Jensen and Linda Oberg from the airfreight team. The Swedish guides took their guests to restaurant Heaven 23, with a view over Gothenburg, to taste their reputedly famous prawn sandwich. In the afternoon, they had arranged a visit to Universeum – the biggest science centre in Scandinavia. In the evening, our colleagues from Aalborg met all their colle-

agues from the Gothenburg office, were treated to a good dinner and learned to know each other better. Inevitably some business talk sneaked in and there is no doubt that everybody profited by and enjoyed the evening. The Aalborg team hereby thanks their Gothenburg colleagues for a fantastic stay and for their helpfulness and commitment. Extended certification in Esbjerg and Houston At an external audit in August 2012, Blue Water obtained extension of its quality and environmental certificates - covering all business segments of the Esbjerg location. Due to increasing client requirements and demand for knowledge sharing, we have decided to extend our implementation and certification through the achievement of the work and safety certificate OHSAS18001 covering our head office. We aim at a roll-out of the certification to include strategically chosen offices starting with Houston. The process is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

This time in Marseille – the gateway to North Africa. “”We are very pleased to announce the opening of a new Blue Water office which marks a strengthening of Blue Water Shipping’s global oil, gas and project cargo network.

Our aim is to increase our effort and involvement in the French market for energy and industrial projects. Further, the opening strengthens our diversification within oil, gas and project logistics, especially in North African countries focusing on Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya” says Mogens Nielsen, Country Manager in

The new office will be manned by Blue Water France’s new Oil, Gas & Project Manager Lionel Guilbaud, who has many years of experience, a comprehensive network within the industry and possesses an extensive knowledge of the markets especially through postings in several African markets and French Caribbean. In the beginning, the office will also be manned by Apolline Simeon who has extensive experience from Blue Water’s office in Brest within the chartering and container department. She has lived in West Africa which is why she also has a profound knowledge about the African market.

Stavanger “Stavanger is the centre of oil exploration in Norway and today, we already have many existing clients in and around Stavanger. Therefore, it is natural that we open an office which focuses on the oil and gas industry in the city, so that we can offer local expertise for existing and new clients”, explains Thomas Bek, responsible for Blue Water’s global development within transport for the oil and gas industry – one of Blue Water’s special competences.

“We already have offices in many of the world’s centres within this segment – in Houston, Rio de Janeiro, Aberdeen, Dubai, Singapore and in the Caspian regent – so the opening in Stavanger makes good sense in terms of expanding the network. Our many competences and

Jubilees 40 years Claus Bæk started with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.7.73. Now 40 years later, he can boast of being Blue Water’s first trainee. After his long-time employment with Blue Water Manchester and detours to a couple of departments at the Esbjerg office, Claus has for the recent many years formed part of our sales group. He is very familiar with the roads in Denmark as well as in Europe as he has spent hours there pursuing new customers – always cheerful and wisecracking.

In addition to his commitment in the sales team, Claus is also in charge of our local exhibition department and his latest responsibility is our local customer department.

We often experience Claus’ competitive gene through sports when he outpaces his “younger” sales colleagues on sales figures. Claus’ heart still beats warmly for Manchester United as well as for team Esbjerg’s young women’s handball team.

He watches all their matches live or on television and follows up the next day with a lively discussion about the result.

In private life, Claus is still married to Rie. Their children, Karen and Peter, are big now, so the couple has got an “afterthought” – the sausage dog Luigi – whom Claus walks early every morning.

Congratulations to Claus on his 40th jubilee.

30 years On 1.4, Jonfinn Simonsen celebrated his 30th anniversary with Blue Water.

Jonfinn has been part of the team from the very start of Smyril Line 30 years ago and continued in Blue Water when we in 1999 entered the scene. Jonfinn is operations manager in Smyril Blue Water. He looks after all equipment and haulage on the Faroe Islands and is also our insurance expert.

Jonfinn is always very helpful – he never says no and is good at keeping a sense of perspective in often stressed circumstances.

Only by using his good brains and without use of a computer, Jonfinn is capable of making a loading plan for all “Norrøna’s” trailer capacity.

Johnfinn uses his spare time on a lot of different activities – one of which is playing old boys football together with the Faroes lagmand (Prime Minister).

Jonfinn spends all his winter holiday 18

skiing and his summer holidays cruising.

At home, he and his wife enjoy the tranquility now that their three children have flown the nest. But they are ever so happy when their grandchild comes to visit.

On 1.7, Thomas Jensen (TeeJay) will be celebrating his 30 anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg. Thomas has been involved in deep sea shipping more or less since the container vessel was invented and as such, he holds an enormous experience which the entire department benefits from.

Thomas is married to Lykke and they have two children, Mads and Karoline, who are both about to fly the nest. As compensation, Thomas and Lykke have now got a dog called Karla.

Thomas is a sports fanatic and was, in his younger days, an able football player. But this is a lot of years (and kilos) ago, and today his leisure activities include golf (handicap 10 in good weather), holidays in Thailand and in the family’s summer house on the west coast of Jutland. Furthermore Thomas never declines a game of whist or any other kinds of games. He is also a party animal who loves good music – “Ring my bell” is his favourite piece of music.

Silver On 1.6, Robert (Bob) Farrar will have been with Blue Water in Manchester for 25 years. Bob joined Blue Water as a driver and is now the manager of our warehouse in Manchester. Even though Bob has “only” been with Blue Water for 25 years, we have known him longer as he used to work for us via a subcontractor before this. As well as a busy working day, Bob is – with a little help from his wife Ramona – also kept busy by his children and grandchildren.

Bob is a keen gardener and a longtime Liverpool fan. Next season, he will be doing a lot of gardening as he will not have to sit watching many European games.

Jens Ole Wickberg Jensen joined Blue Water Esbjerg on 10.7.88. He originally started as truck driver on our German traffic. Reportedly he did not always know how to find his way to the customers, but he could always find the nearest IBIS hot dog stand.

After a while, Jens Ole got homesick

and was transferred to a job at our warehouse loading trailers to the UK. When our UK warehouse moved to Lillebæltsvej, Jens Ole stayed at the harbour and started handling wind turbine components.

Jens Ole has also for a number of years been the safety representative of Blue Water’s terminal, a job he has always performed with great interest.

He is always in a good mood and has a positive approach to new challenges.

In his spare time, Jens Ole fancies a game of bridge and he loves to spend 3-4 weeks’ holiday in Thailand.

20 years In 1991, Priscilla D’Souza came to Dubai from Kuwait where she worked for GAC. Due to the Iraqi war, however, she was forced to relocate to Dubai together with her family. Here she joined Blue Water on 16.3.93.

In the early days, when the company was still very small, Priscilla was involved in sales, marketing, operation and general office work.

In the mid-nineties, the office needed a full-time bookkeeper. As this was the only area Priscilla was not yet involved in, she took up the challenge along with the daily bookkeeping and especially her involvement in our trucks carrying fresh and frozen products around the Middle East.

As part of her training, Priscilla had to go to Esbjerg and unfortunately, she had no other footwear than high heels when she landed in Denmark in the wintertime.

Today Priscilla is running the bookkeeping department and doing the administrative work for our offices in Dubai, Jebel Ali as well as Abu Dhabi.

Priscilla has three sons, two live in the USA and one in Dubai and last year, she experienced the great happiness of becoming a grandmother.

On 1.5, Per Jensen will be celebrating his 20th jubilee with Blue Water Esbjerg. Per’s skills and interests cover a wide field. Having passed his mate’s examination, Per sailed for several years in the Lauritzen and DFDS fleet, before he became a landlubber. Per’s maritime interest is, however, still intact and a major part of his life - both in Blue Water, where he is in charge of the port activities in Esbjerg, including the stevedore contact to various ship-

Jubilees ping lines, and in private life, where he spends a lot of time on his speedboat, which mysteriously found its way from the USA to the port of Esbjerg.

Despite his untidiness – many of us cannot even remember the colour of Per’s desk top due to the many stacks of paper - Per is very professional and good at finding new and alternative solutions for the benefit of both our clients and ourselves. And bids for various tenders for terminal and warehouse services are – for the most part - submitted on time.

With the advance of age, Per is very focused on his appearance and keeps fit by doing weight training and spinning.

He is so enthusiastic that many of his colleagues fear that he will dwindle to nothing. Nevertheless, they hope that he will treat them to a piece of cake on the occasion of his jubilee.

Henrik Damgaard/Blue Water Billund will be celebrating his 20th jubilee on 17.5. Henrik started as a young trainee at our Aalborg office in the spring of 1993. Having completed his apprenticeship with special focus on Greenland airfreight, Henrik and his wife moved to Dubai where he helped starting up the airfreight activity of this office. Back in Denmark again, he took an active share in the establishment of our Billund office. The office has grown from the very modest start with three employees to a staff of 20, and Henrik has been a very important pawn in the entire development of the office. Today, he is in charge of logistics for military and government organisations.

Henrik is and has always been a true Blue Water man, always giving the company’s interests pride of place.

One can rest assured that emails will be answered – even during weekends and holidays – Damggard is constantly prepared. He is also one of the people whom the company’s success is built on and his disposition and professional skills make him very popular among our clients as well as among his colleagues.

Henrik spends his free time with his family; his wife, Ulla, and their son, Thomas, and he also finds time for coaching Thomas’ football team.

10 years On 1.3, Pauli Hansen celebrated his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Torshavn on the Faroe Islands. Pauli forms

part of our terminal team in Torshavn and is responsible for loading and discharging of the freight ferry “Norrøna”, a job he gets top marks for. Thanks to Pauli, “Norrøna” is able to sail on schedule every week – weather permitting.

Pauli is married to Laufey from Iceland and consequently spends many holidays on Iceland together with her and the children.

Pauli used to be an excellent volleyball player and has also played for the Faroese national team. As his knee is not very strong anymore, Pauli is now only playing to get some exercise.

Pauli’s other hobbies include football (AB), and now that the season has started, he is a frequent guest at Blue Water Arena in Torshavn.

Søren Messmann, head of the terminal/ stevedore department in Esbjerg, celebrated his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.4.

10 years, ago, we nearly abstained from calling Søren in for a job interview. Somehow the application provided a rather feminine picture of “Mess”, which could not be more wrong, we found out when we finally met him.

Søren is in many ways a force. He is very committed, no matter whether it concerns IT, HSSEQ or product development. He can both lead the way and work hard, find the right solution and make decisions, but he is also good at listening. Søren has no doubt had an immense influence on the great development of the port terminal during the recent many years.

It is always easy to find Søren in a crowd. You can both see him and hear him, as he is still stout despite his cutback on cakes in the afternoon. Søren never misses a good party, and the fact that he is originally a ship’s mate is obvious, as he often, only a few hours in the party, will be lurching, legs like jelly.

On 7.4.03, Michael K. Pedersen was taken on as manager for the North Atlantic department of Blue Water Copenhagen, which at that time was located in Vallensbæk. Michael has helped build up the sea and airfreight department for the North Atlantic, which has doubled in staff since then – from 7 to 14.

However, after a number of years in this job, Michael regrettably had to reduce his working hours due to sclerosis.

Today, he is our claims and insurance expert and is also responsible for the Copenhagen office’s registration of

quotations in the SMS database. This is quite a challenge, especially in connection with the annual updating, but Michael throws himself into the job with his usual systematic approach and year after year, Copenhagen is the first office to report updating mission completed.

Michael also spends a lot of energy on internal education, of new colleagues, in automatic invoicing/settling and templates.

He loves going on holiday with his family and genealogy is another hobby of his. Michael has been able to trace his ancestors as far back as 1525. The traces have taken him to Mols among other places, where some of the family holidays have been spent searching for family farms.

Michael is married to Trine and they have two children Mathilde and Gustav.

The family has recently moved into a new house in Hedehusene where they all enjoy the garden and having plenty of space.

On 1.6.03, Martin Christensen started his career with Blue Water Hirtshals – first as docker in Smyril and then as foreman in Smyril Blue Water in connection with stowage of trailers and loading/discharging of M/F “Norröna”.

When “Norröna” changed schedule and started calling at Esbjerg, Martin moved to Esbjerg as well. When “Norröna” later moved back to her old port of call, Hirtshals, Martin joined the technical wind support group to become responsible for preparing wind turbine components for transport by sea, primarily out of the port of Aalborg.

However, Martin wished to try his skills as foreman in Blue Water and consequently moved to stevedoring, where he still is.

Martin spends his leisure time hunting.

He has been to Africa, among other places, to shoot a lion, and plans to shoot an elephant next autumn.

Lasse Petersen/Key Account Manager at Blue Water Fort Lauderdale will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on 1.7.

Lasse’s Blue Water career started in Scandinavian road traffic at the Copenhagen office where he two years later completed his apprenticeship in the deep sea department. Living abroad appealed to Lasse and in 2006 his dream came true. He was transferred to the USA – initially, for two years with the New York team and since 2008 under warmer skies in Fort Lauderdale. Here, he is looking after our US reefer export 19

Jubilees in the “chicken” department which has since grown rapidly.

Lasse is a football enthusiast and follows both US and European football as well as other sports with great interest and can occasionally be found on the midfield himself or on rare occasions as goalkeeper, but only when the local Danish society has the need for a modest level of exercise.

Over the years, Lasse has expanded his culinary horizon, but his favourite dish is still spaghetti.

On the private side, Lasse shares roof with Eva Zsubori (from Blue Water Miami) and their 2-year-old son Daniel.

Lasse is very dedicated to his job and a good colleague whom we all value dearly at the office.

Pasha Pashazade started with Blue Water Baku back in 2003. In the beginning Pasha formed part of our warehouse team, but took up new challenges and is today performing the function of freight forwarder in the road transport department.

Pasha’s favourite leisure activity is football. He is very fond of children and football, and his dream is to create a professional football team and train kids’ football.

Pasha has a wife and two daughters – Syears and a three-month-old baby.

Staff Redeployment On 1.10.12, Kenneth Lykke Lauritsen left a job as freight forwarder at our Copenhagen office to take up new challenges as quality coordinator in our HSSEQ department in Esbjerg. Kenneth will be working from both Esbjerg and Copenhagen.

On 25.2, Apolline Simeon moved from our Brest office to our new office in Marseille to take on a job as assistant in the oil & gas and project logistics department.

On 1.3, Peter Knoblauch was transferred from our terminal administration in Esbjerg to a job as administrative assistant in the parcel group.

Louise Anja Bruun has formed part of our Manchester team since 1.3. Louise comes from Blue Water Odense where she served her apprenticeship.

On 1.3, we saw a doubling of our process department with the employment of our internal colleague Kasper Nielsen from Blue Water’s airfreight department in Copenhagen. As well as being team

manager for the airfreight department in Copenhagen, Kasper has also performed the function of superuser on our systems – involving strong focus on the optimising of processes and procedures.

On 4.3, Rógvi Holmsdal was transferred to our courier department in Copenhagen. Rógvi is 24 years old and has recently completed his apprenticeship with Smyril Blue Water in Torshavn involved in both sea and airfreight.

At the end of February, Sebastian Stackelies moved from our office in La Coruna to start in his new job in the trucking department of Blue Water Copenhagen on 11.3.

Kristian Bruus Hald, who served his shipping apprenticeship with Blue Water Grenaa, will in the near future be transferred to Nuuk. As from 2 May, however, Kristian will be at our Aalborg office for 2-3 weeks before he goes to Nuuk - with a “stopover” at Blue Water Copenhagen.

Pressure of business and new employees at Blue Water Oslo Blue Water Oslo experiences a growth in number of clients and shipments. We have therefore increased our staff by transferring Jesper Stampe from Blue Water Herning to this office. Jesper will temporarily form part of the airfreight division which also includes Harald Thun and Eivind Beckstrøm. Later this year, Jesper will join the local customer department and contribute to developing the department together with Sven Olsson and Robin Luther who joined Blue Water on 1.3.

Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen from Blue Water Aalborg will for a period of time be stationed in Nuuk to take over the responsibilities as general manager for Lisbeth Borg, who will be going on maternity leave. Listbeth will return around 1.1.14.

New Employees Aalborg On 1.2, Dorte Scheel, 38 years old, started as sales coordinator. Dorte comes from a similar job with Uhrenholt in Svenstrup for which company she has also been posted in Ghana for a period of time.

47-year-old Betina Harlyk joined our North Atlantic sea freight team as assistant on 1.3. Betina comes from a job with Scanbelt, Hjørring, but used to work for Blue Water Kolding for a long time and wished to return to the paddock.

Aarhus Lone Korntved, 43 years old, is employed as team manager in the accounts department as from 2.1.

Lone was previously employed with Go’on Gruppen as accounts and administrative manager.

Billund Bjarne Christensen, 57 years old, forms part of our airfreight team since 16.11.12. Bjarne comes from a job with Damco, where he was involved in airfreight export, and has for the recent 34 years been working in the transport business with DSV and Siemens among others – seeing things from both angles.

As from 2.1, Børge Timmermann Holdt, 43 years old, is employed as business development manager with focus on our services to relief agencies etc. Børge served his apprenticeship with Spedition Dal, and his career also includes jobs with Wilson, Kühne & Nagel and most recently Damco in Billund.

Copenhagen Søren Krog, 38 years old, is employed as manager for road transport.

Furthermore Søren is in charge of our office in Rødby focusing on cross trade on the Continent and Scandinavia.

Søren joined NJK/Blue Water in 2007 and was part owner of NJK Spedition with divisions in Rødby and Koper in Slovenia.

Esbjerg We have taken on 36year-old Hans Brinch Sonnicksen as stevedore foreman as from 1.1.

Hans has been working for the crane company BMS as supervisor for 13 years.

27-year-old Mark Olsen joined our IT team as IT supporter on 2.1. Mark was previously employed as IT consultant with IT Business Partner A/S, Fredericia.

As from 1.2, Jørgen Kristensen, 46 years old, is employed as freight forwarder in the deep sea department. Jørgen has a 22-year career with DSV – the recent 12 months within export LCL and responsible for “Best Practice” (IT). The three previous years, he was team manager for export sea freight.

On 1.2, Torben Nyborg, 33 years old, returned to his old job in our local customer group after a short detour to J. Lauridsen.

On 4.2, Simon Sommer Ahle, 22 years old, started as system developer in our IT department. Simon just recently graduated in computer science.

41-year-old Henrijette Hansen is employed as manager for wind logistics as from 1.3. For the previous 12 years, Henrijette was employed with DSV Air & Sea A/S, most recently as manager for their wind turbine division in Horsens.

As from 12.3, we have taken on 41-year-old Peter Bech Sørensen as terminal assistant in Port Service. Peter comes from a job as engineer for Siemens, where he has worked for 14 years.

As from 1.4, Kitsa Warborg Bjerregaard, 36 years old, is employed in our canteen on a permanent basis. Kitsa has served as a substitute since August 2012, and she joined Blue Water from a similar job at Esbjerg Højskole (college).

Herning 23-year-old Casper Fogh Ljungberg started as freight forwarder on 3.12.12. Casper comes from Sand Distribution where he served his apprenticeship.

As from 1.3, we have engaged 31-year-old Charlotte Nauheimer on a permanent basis as accounts assistant in accounts payable. Charlotte has been working as a temp here since August 2012 and was previously employed with L&P Springs in Tistrup.

We have taken on 38-year-old Tina Tucek as freight forwarder as from 1.3. Tina served her apprenticeship with First Concern and has also been employed with DSV and Leman.

As from 1.3, we have employed Michael Steen Steenberg, 50 years old, as manager for our agency & chartering department. In the past, Michael has been involved in chartering activities for companies in Denmark, Germany and the USA.

Hirtshals Since 11.3, Søren Dahl, 40 years old, forms part of our export department as freight forwarder. Søren has shipping and logistics experience from his previous employments with Danish Crown, Danish Meat Co. and most recently Scandic Foods.

New Employees Odense Käte Lindeman, 48 years old, is employed as accounting assistant as from 1.2. Käte has previously worked as a secretary and dietitian, for a medical practice group in the town of Ringe, and has also been doing accounting for Midtfyns Bryghus, Lars Broe Rustfri Stål, Odense and Henning Ibsen.

Rødby New colleagues in connection with the acquisition of NJK International Spedition og Transport: Merete Løye, 31 years old, takes care of cross trade from Eastern Europe to Scandinavia and is also back-up on projects.

Merete joined NJK/Blue Water two years ago.

27-year-old Michelle Kyhn looks after administration. Michelle has been part of NJK/Blue Water for three years.

Niels Jørgen Krog, 64 years old, founded NJK in 1995. Niels Jørgen is in charge of projects and is day-to-day responsible for the office as well as key accounts.

Aberdeen Andy Reid, 48 years old, took up the position of driver/warehouseman on 1.12.12. Andy joined us from a local transport company Casey Transport.

Amsterdam On 11.3, Nicolai Koeleman, 33 years old, joined our team. The recent couple of years, Nicolai has worked as freight forwarder for Time Matters (division of Lufthansa). Nicolai forms part of our SBM group handling FPSO projects to Brazil.

Baku 39-year-old Rashid Shafiyev started as terminal assistant on 26.11.12.

Rashid joined us from a position as engineer with Swift Engineering.

Bremen 45-year-old Silvia Silvestri started in telephone sales/administration on 1.1. Silvia used to be part of Aviations Handling Service’s service team in Bremen Airport.

Lars Kruse, 44 years old, organises our round trip services, primarily from the Continent to Scandinavia. Lars has been with NJK/Blue Water for five years.

Fort Lauderdale We have employed 23-year-old Jasmine Torres as freight forwarder in the export reefer department as from 1.2.

Jasmine joins us from Hayt and Dandau.

Hans Willer, 55 years old, looks after project transport and acts as back-up on cross trade from Eastern Europe as well. Hans’ career with NJK/Blue Water goes back 14 years.

Gothenburg On 3.12.12, we took on 20-year-old Alexandra Jonasson as freight forwarding trainee in road transport between the Nordic countries. Alexandra joins us from ICA.

Anders Henriksen, 23 years old, is involved in our roundtrip services, primarily from Scandinavia to the Continent.

Anders started with NJK/ Blue Water four years ago.

Madeilene Lövgreen, 27 years old, started as freight forwarder in the deep sea department on 11.2. Madeleine joins us from a similar job with MTA Gothenburg.

Ilulissat Majken Sønderby, 29 years old, started as freight forwarder on 1.3.

Majken served her apprenticeship with Stena Line in Frederikshavn where she was employed until March.

Majken has, however, been away from Stena Line for two years working for KGH Spedition, Frederikshavn and Nordic Seafood, Hirtshals respectively.

Manchester 39-year-old John Farrar joined our warehouse/ parcel department on 5.11.12. John was previously employed with IBM. Marseille Lionel Guilbaud, 53 years old, is appointed general manager of our new office in France as from 16.1. Lionel joins us from a job as manager for the project, oil and gas activities of Agility in Marseille.

Oslo 46-year-old Irene Foshaugen Martinsen has formed part of our team since 3.12.12. Irene is a freight forwarder and her field of responsibility includes import/export, quotations to customers and agents and other administrative jobs. Irene joins us from DSV. Robin Luther, 29 years old, started as freight forwarder on 1.3. Robin has specialised in Sweden and Finland traffic and is part of our Nordic venture. He was previously employed with Bring Frigoscandia and most recently DSV Road.

Rotterdam 25-year-old Gerben Ponstein forms part of our team since 14.11.12.

From 2006 to 2009, Gerben worked in customer service import Far East at Hapag Lloyd and from 2009 up to now, he was employed as freight forwarder in customer service import/export at ITS Freight Forwarding.

New Employees 32-year-old Jeroen Koor neef joined our SBM project team on 1.1. Jeroen comes from a freight forwarding job with Alfons Freriks Logistics involving both import and export sea freight/air freight/rail/road. During his time with Alfons Freriks Logistics, Jeroen finished his study on customs declaration import/export.

On 1.1, Hans Bustroek, 55 years old, joined our cruise logistics team.

Hans has 32 years of experience in this business – from Kopcke Cruise among others, which was sold to Bosman Dordrecht and renamed B&S Global Transit Center. Hans is responsible for the import of containers destined for the cruise vessels calling at Europe.

Weddings

Singapore Elaine Ham Pek Kim, 26 years old, joined our accounts department as accounts executive on 1.2. Elaine has three years of accounting experience and her latest employment was with Kim Seng Huat Hardware Pte. Ltd. Torshavn On 1.3, Filip Gram, 24 years old, started as trainee in our import department.

On 20.12.12, Satu Brunner/Blue Water Helsinki and Mika Salmola married at the town hall in Espoo.

The same day, another trainee, 23-year-old Hanus Andrias Kristiansen, started in our export department.

Birthday celebration with Blue Water cake The occasion of Blue Water Odense’s 24th anniversary was celebrated with a genuine Blue Water cake. Brian Nielsen’s daughter, Line, who spends a great deal of her spare time making cakes to family and friends, had created the Blue Water cake, which according to our colleagues in Odense was delicious.

Rasmus Ryvold/Blue Water Greenland, Nuuk married his fiancée, Anne Mette, at the town hall in Nuuk on 22.2.

Obituary Kenneth Birk Jørgensen

Learning more about TNT Express In January, nine Blue Water colleagues from different courier departments in Denmark were invited to an interesting introduction day at our courier provider TNT Express in Kolding. This is a recurrent event, at which our new trainees

and “old” freight forwarders become acquainted with TNT’s services, possibilities and values and learn more about the strategic cooperation between Blue Water Shipping and TNT Express.

Kenneth Birk Jørgensen joined Blue Water on 20.3.07 and was soon transferred to Ilulissat in Greenland where he was employed until his death in January 2013.

Kenneth always showed great commitment in his job and served our clients to the utmost satisfaction. He lived and breathed for his job and was very happy with his life in Ilulissat where he soon found a lot of friends. Kenneth was in his element there and he often said that this was his preferred home and that he wished to stay in Ilulissat as long as possible. This was completely in line with our wishes, as Blue Water benefited greatly from his way of running the office and serving the clients. Sadly, Kenneth was more than three years ago hit by a fatal disease and in January, he lost his fight against cancer.

It is with deep sorrow that we take leave of Kenneth Birk Jørgensen – a good colleague and a fantastic representative for Blue Water in Ilulissat.

Births Louise K. Brændstrup/Blue Water Copenhagen gave birth to a baby boy, Nicklas (3.7 kgs/56 cm), on 22.11.12. Nicklas is Louise’s first child.

A proud Jeppe Rind Stentoft/Blue Water Aarhus announced the birth of his son, Marius (3.7 kgs/56 cm) on 27.11.12.

Nanna Juul Andersen/Blue Water Fort Lauderdale became a mother for the first time on 3.12.12. Nanna’s little son (3.6 kgs/50 cm has been named Aksel.

On 19.12.12, Sanne Tholstrup/Blue Water Copenhagen became a mother for the first time when she gave birth to her daughter, Anne Louise (3.5 kgs/54 cm).

Jesper Øraker’s/Blue Water New York son (3.3 kgs/49 cm) saw the light of day on 29.12.12. The little boy has been named Johan Marius.

On 11.1, Søren Esbersen/Blue Water Aarhus became a father of a baby girl, Sophie (3.8 kgs/53 cm).

On 16.1, Klaus Bindesbøll/exhibition department, Esbjerg and his fiancée, Kristina, increased their family by a healthy boy (3.8 kgs/52 cm). It was a quick delivery so Klaus had to act as midwife. Well done – yet another competence has been added to his CV. Kenneth Ruby/Blue Water Copenhagen is another proud first-time father. His wife, Trine, gave birth to twins – two boys, Daniel (3.3 kgs/52 cm) and Mathias (2.8 kgs/48 cm) - on 18.1. Mum, dad and the twins are all feeling fine.

On 21.1, Søren Madsen/shipbroking/ project, Esbjerg and his fiancée, Anni, became parents of a baby girl (3.3 kgs/54 cm). The baby girl and her parents are doing fine.

Kasper Nielsen/Blue Water Copenhagen became a father, for the first time on 1.2, of a healthy baby girl, Filippa (2.6 kgs/50 cm).

On 25.2, Mette Lindhardt/Blue Water Aalborg announced the birth of her beautiful baby boy (3.8 kgs/54 cm).

Doreen Ang/Blue Water Singapore gave birth to twins on 28.2 – a baby girl, Camie Boo (2.7 kgs/47 cm) and a baby boy, Cayden Boo (2.7 kgs/47 cm). The family also includes another son and two daughters.

Siraj Khan/Blue Water Jebel Ali and his wife, Ghazala Shaheen, added another member, baby Azlan, to their family on 3.3. Azlan has two elder brothers and sisters, Sanan aged 3 and Rehan aged 7.

On 12.3, Rasmus Naeve Bildstrup/Blue Water Aarhus became a father for the third time when his daughter, Asta (3.2 kgs/52 cm), was born on the back seat of the family car. Rasmus performed the function of midwife – a wild experience.

Everybody – apart from the trim of the car – is in good shape.

On 14.3, Søren Madsen/Blue Water Aarhus increased his family by a baby boy (3.6 kgs/52 cm). Søren is now the proud father of four children as he already had two sons and a daughter.

On16.3, Brian Hundebøl/marketing, Esbjerg became a father of a baby girl – prematurely and in an unexpected way.

On a holiday to Barcelona in Spain, Brian had to act as midwife when his fiancée, Tine, to their great surprise – before the ambulance arrived – gave birth to a healthy baby girl at their hotel room. The little family is fine, but due to the premature birth (10 weeks before due date) the little girl, Sofia, weighing 1335 grams, was put in a couveuse. Therefore the new parents and the little girl had to stay in Spain for about a month.

It was an extraordinary start of their family life – but Little Sofia can only feel happy to have such strong and efficient parents.
