A larger and stronger Blue Water The activities and events in 2013 shows that many new Blue Water offices have emerged and that we continue to strengthen the organisation Around one year ago, Kurt Skov welcomed me as the new Managing Director for Blue Water Shipping. It has been a pleasure to become part of the company, and I am still thrilled and impressed by the energy and the people who is part of Blue Water which has a unique spirit and culture. Looking back at 2013 shows that it has once again been a year with plenty of activity for Blue Water. Many new employees and offices have been added, but apart from geographical expansion, we have also spread our solutions to new businesses and industries. Following the record profits of recent years, a range of investments is planned for 2014, which are costly but also necessary for the strengthening of our company for the desired future positive development. We are in a favourable position capable of long-term planning our investments due to the ownership of the Blue Water Foundation and Kurt’s wish to further develop Blue Water. This year, we have specifically focused on the following priorities: One Blue Water – Our new common platform which strengthens our values, and ensures that we work according to the same principles and quality regardless of the location. In January, we will be ready to begin the implementation of One Blue Water globally. Logneo – Our new global transport management system which will be implemented on an ongoing basis and improve our opportunities to service the clients even better – while internally achieving a higher level of quality and efficiency as we will be using the same system. The Nordic Countries – Our ambition is to make the Nordic Countries including Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland our home market. Our objective is to get close to the clients by expanding with new offices. In 2013, we have taken large steps in realising this ambition. With the acquisition of Wikeström and Krogius, we have 40 new employees and three new offices in Finland, which make us a strong player on the market. In Sweden, we have acquired ACi Transport and its eight employees in Malmö. Further, we have established offices in Stockholm and Stavanger. Our opportunities to pro2

vide services to existing and new clients in Scandinavia have never been better and in line with our strategy, we expect future investments here. Value adding services – Our ambition is to further develop customised transport solutions. The development of our own IT systems plays a significant role for our ability to offer the clients unique, integrable systems and solutions throughout the logistics chain. We have therefore increased the amount of IT developers so that we have the capacity to handle current and future assignments. Global sales structure – Our new setup with specific focus on oil, gas, project and wind solutions. Based on our strong operational competences, we have great success in these industries, where the clients experience top quality within even the most complicated and challenging projects. Our planned expansion of our sales concept is well under way through employments and increased cooperation

between our specialists throughout the world. We have already seen many positive results from these large investments and we will see more next year. The aim is, that both clients, business partners and employees will experience a better Blue Water in the future. It is expensive to strengthen our organisation like this, and even if the costs are provided for in the budget, we must still keep our focus on our costs. This is the only way we can maintain a healthy and well-managed organisation which is able to provide service of very high quality to our clients. Again and again, we receive positive feedback from our clients and we can all be very proud of being part of this success. Best regards, Kim Hedegaard Sørensen Managing Director

Blue Water involved in large infrastructure project

The spans are 25 m wide and 100 m long and each of them has a 20 m high pylon. In connection with the construction of Odins Bridge in Odense, Denmark, Blue Water was involved in the transport of the large bridge spans. The spans arrived by ship from China to Odense Port Terminal. From here, four large Kamag transport vehicles from Lindø Industrial Park handled the further transport in cooperation with Blue Water Shipping. “The two bridge spans weigh more than 2,000 tons each. The transport went from ship to quay via a specially built ramp for preparation works before the bridge spans

were sailed to Odense Canal by barge. The ramp was built of nearly 8,000 tons gravel, soil and hard core. The spans were moved in two phases as it was only possible to transport one bridge span at a time”, says Kim Thygesen, Blue Water Lindø. The experienced project freight forwarders from Blue Water worked closely with the contractor, MT Højgaard, in composing the concept for this demanding logistics assignment and Blue Water was in charge of the physical handling of the bridge spans - from the deck of

the ocean ship via a custom-built ramp at Odense Port Terminal and onwards to the construction site by barge. ”The combination of special equipment at Lindø and Blue Water’s competences were crucial in this project, which we are proud to have been part of, as it was a very challenging transport assignment for an impressive construction”, says Kim Thygesen, Blue Water Lindø. The four-lane bridge will be the largest double swing bridge in Northern Europe and the owner is Odense Municipality.

Global chartering meeting Blue Water’s shipbrokers and chartering officers from all over the world has been gathered for a twoPeter Ehrhorn - Chartering day general Manager in Esbjerg meeting in Esbjerg. We are experiencing a global demand and make an effort of optimizing our internal cooperation continually. We are very aware of the development within the markets, so we can adapt quickly in relation to the development. The global chartering meeting is a good basis for this continual development and optimization. “Blue Water’s chartering officers must have a solid market knowledge and a

good relationship to the ship owners of all the special vessel types we use for our project cargo related to wind, oil, gas and other industrial projects. This mainly concerns heavy cargo and project ships with special demands such as crane capacity, hatch size, speed etc. In addition, we

work with barges, tug boats, several types of supply ships and ro/ro ferries. Further, we offer all types of service vessels for offshore wind parks such as hotel accommodation vessels and crew vessels”, says Peter Erhorn, who is the manager of the chartering department in Esbjerg. 3

Emergency port call in Holland

Water tank for Great Britain Blue Water Shipping has transported a water tank test system from Esbjerg to Teesport in the UK. The tank weighed 149 metric tons and was loaded on board the “Abis Bordeaux” in October. The vessel can sail with open hatches which was necessary as it would not be able to carry the cargo otherwise. “The cargo was loaded and delivered to the client on time and we handled the both chartering, stevedoring and agency operations for this project”, says Chartering Manager Michael Steen Steenberg. The tank system has been used locally to test the capacity of cranes mounted on offshore vessels used for installation of wind turbines.

Blue Water acted as agents when the installation vessel ”MPI Resolution” made an emergency port call at the Dutch city of Flushing (Vlissingen). A storm had swept through the Channel and damaged the ship, making it necessary to call

into port for repair works. Blue Water act as agents when the ship calls at the port of Esbjerg for loading of wind turbines and we were asked to assist with the operation in Flushing, as it was easier for the ship to enter this port than the port of Esbjerg.

Guided tour of an installation vessel

In October, Blue Water Aalborg and Frederikshavn were given a guided tour of the impressive installation vessel ”Brave Tern”. Blue Water Frederikshavn is agent for the vessel, which is owned by Fred. Olsen Wind Carrier. While the vessel is in port waiting for new assignments, we ensure that spare parts are delivered and crew changes are carried out. 4

Heavy-lift in Rio Blue Water Shipping Rio has completed the discharge, heavy-lift and storage of two mooring buoys for our Dutch client Bluewater Energy Services B.V. After a few months of mutual research and careful planning, the buoys arrived on a heavy-lift vessel in the port of Vitoria in Rio. During the discharge, one team prepared the storage location while another team handled the buoys at the quayside ensuring that all steps of the project went according to the time schedule which was a key factor for the success of the project. “Each buoy was 25 m in diameter, 19 m high and weighed about 860 tons making it a challenging logistics project. After discharging the cargo from the vessel, the buoys were transported from the quayside to the storage location with a 44-axle line SPTM (Self Propelled Module Trailer)”, says Tiago Bitiu, Sales Manager from Blue Water Rio. Earlier this year, Blue Water Rio was also involved in the loadout of 9,000 metres

Right on time Blue Water Port Klang has transported 45 bundles of anchor chains from China and 10 wire reels from Germany to Porto Amboim in Angola for SBM Offshore in September. “The challenge was to coordinate the arrival of the two shipments and have all import documentation in place prior to the arrival of the installation vessel “Normand Installer”. In addition, there was a limited time span for us to carry out the operation”, says Allen David, Assistant General Manager from Port Klang. In close cooperation with both the vessel owners and Blue Water offices in Denmark, Singapore and China, the 62 ton wire reels and anchor chains were offloaded right on time.

The 860 ton mooring buoys will be installed in Brazilian waters for Petrobas. Fl: Jos van der Heide/Bluewater Energy Services and Tiago Bitiu/Blue Water. of anchor chains for the same project. “We are pleased that our cooperation with Bluewater Energy Services expands, and this indicates that the relationship

between our companies is of great mutual value”, says Tiago Bitiu.

Challenging project transport

The cargo consisted of four thrusters (measuring 8.30 x 4.80 x 4.20 metres with a total weight of 57 metric tons) and spare parts for a drilling rig. In October, Blue Water’s project teams in Esbjerg and Houston initiated the first in a series of several project transports for the Mexican Gulf. ”We choose the right solution for each of these transports to fulfil our client’s needs. For this project, we also coordinated heavy-lifts, air and container shipments”, says Nikolaj Buurgaard who coordinates all steps of the transports from Esbjerg until the cargo leaves Europe. Then, Blue Water Houston takes over the role as coordinator. This transport began

by road from the production facilities of Wärtsila in the Dutch city of Zwolle. From here, the cargo was taken to a nearby quay area and loaded immediately upon arrival. The barge sailed to Bremen, where a floating crane discharged the cargo to the quayside, enabling the local customs office to do a visual inspection. Once the inspection was completed, the thrusters were loaded on board the vessel which carried the cargo to the Mexican Gulf and the final destination, Mobile, in the USA.

Munich strengthens its network

45 bundles of anchor chains and 10 wire reels were delivered to Angola.

Blue Water Munich has become a member of the German trade organisation BSK which is an interest group for companies involved with heavy-lift and cranage. This is the largest membership organisation in the German industry gathering the interests of companies within the freight business. The membership is a source of

valuable information about matters such as insurance conditions and coordination procedures in the individual federal states. Further, Blue Water will have coordinated access to specialised hauliers, insurance providers etc. which strengthens our position and service provider network massively. 5

Oil rigs for the Caspian Sea We have recently completed the first two of four shipments in connection with transporting the jack-up drilling rig “Mercury” from Dubai to the Caspian Sea. The challenging transport goes through the Russian river system where the river system locks has its limitations. The remaining two shipments are completed next year, after which the construction of the drilling rig is completed on the yard in Astrakhan. “The transport went well and according to plan thanks to the close cooperation between the involved Blue Water offices and because we take advantage of our strong in-house competences, which are necessary for complex assignments like these”, says Claus Larsen, responsible for the project from Blue Water. Last year, we completed an identic transport of the rig “Neptune” for the same client – Lamprell Energy, and in Novem-

ber, the rig was complete and ready to be towed to its position to commence the drilling.

Special ramp for project loading in Munich Blue Water Munich handled the shipment of a Schopf F210 aircraft tug from production site by lowbed trailer and on a ro/ro vessel destined for Port Kembla in Australia. The main challenge for handling the brand new aircraft tug was the requirements made by our client regarding the loading. By building a special ramp with square timber, the loading was completed successfully and to the full satisfaction of the client. The tug is specially designed for towing the latest generation of aircrafts, such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, and it will be the first of its kind in Australia.

Blue Water Malaysia has shipped a 152 ton winch with accessories from Italy to Singapore. The winch was transported from factory to port by road with close supervision of Blue Water’s own supercargo. The chartered vessel was loaded and sailed from Italy the next day and the estimated arrival at Singapore is 14 December. 6

Innovative mine logistics When The International Euromining Trade Fair was organised for the first time this September, Blue Water participated. In the future, the fair will be held bi-annually and aims at bringing professionals from the mining industry together for a two-day conference in Tampere, Finland. ”At our stand, Blue Water’s innovative, mining logistics solutions were showcased to visiting companies and we introduced how we, as a specialised logistics provider, add value to the supply chain of the mining companies and that of their suppliers. We had a lot of interesting discussions with visitors in terms of the trend and development of the industry ”, says Niels Mikkelsen Business Development Manager, Mining Logistics, Blue Water. Finland has a long, interesting mining history and represents several market leading companies in terms of equipment manufacturing, technological know-how, geological research, processing and metallurgy.

Largest Keppel FELS contract well under way Fakta Earlier this year, Blue Water signed a contract with our good client for many years Keppel FELS. The Singapore based company is the global leader in the design, construction and repair of oil rigs. The contract includes heavy-lift transportation of 6 semi-submersible oil rigs, and in total, Blue Water will handle more than 600,000 freight tons during the term of this challenging contract. ”The width of the hull is 73 metres, so we have chartered the biggest semi-submersible vessel in the world, the ”Dockwise

Vanguard”, which is expected to load the first shipments from Singapore in December”, says Lars Skov Christensen, Project Manager Blue Water Singapore. The pontoons, which are the basis of the lower hull, were shipped from the Keppel Batangas Shipyard in the Philippines to Singapore in early October and for that part of the job, Blue Water chartered the semi-submersible vessel ”Xiang Rui Kou” from Chinese giant Cosco Heavy Transport. After Keppel launched the pontoons into the water off their waterfront at the

yard, Blue Water arranged the tugboats to tow the pontoons from the waterfront to the anchorage position where ”Xiang Rui Kou” was ready to receive its cargo. Under the supervision and responsibility of Blue Water’s team of experts, the pontoons were floated safely onto the vessel, which five days later left Singapore. The 6 rigs are being built at various Keppel yards across Asia. The completion works of the rigs will be executed at the BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis, Brazil.

Attracting attention in Aabenraa It attracted quite a lot of attention when Blue Water transported a module for a derrick through the streets of Aabenraa in Southern Denmark. The unit was barely 14 metres wide, 13 metres long and over 20 metres high. It was necessary to lift the electrical cables and remove a fair share of road signs to clear a path for the module. ”People in the area took it in good part when we had to stop the traffic shortly. Thorough route planning is always inportant when transporting cargo with such dimensions so that we can avoid getting stuck on our way through roundabouts etc. We like challenges and we always find a solution for the project”, says Allan Leiberg Brodersen of Blue Waters project division. The project was carried out in cooperation between Blue Water Singapore, Esbjerg and Rio de Janeiro.

The transport went from the manufacturer to the port of Aabenraa. From Abenraa, the derrick will be sailed to Angra dos Reis, where the unit will be part of a drilling rig for an oil & gas project. 7

Focus on increased exports

Exclusive partnership In September, Blue Water was appointed exclusive partner in Scandinavia for TALA – The Aerospace Logistics Alliance. TALA is a global network of specialists who deliver equipment and spare parts to airplanes. Blue Water Copenhagen is responsible for the TALA cooperation and the delivery time is crucial as the costs of an airplane on the ground are very high. The first transports have already been handled when two aircraft engines were transported from Luxembourg to Atlanta by air.

Exhibitions are a very important activity for The Danish Export Association which cooperates with Blue Water on transport. Fl. Ulrik Dahl/Managing Director, The Danish Export Association and Claus Bæk/Blue Water. The Danish Export Association works targeted towards strengthening and increasing the international sales of the member companies. This happens through client segmented export networks, knowledge-sharing, market knowledge, and last but not least export drives and joint stands on a wide range of exhibitions all around the world, where the member companies can present a united Danish front and promote their company. Blue Water is a member of the association, counting more than 530 members in total, but at the same time Blue Water also transports the cargo to and from the exhibitions held by the association. “We have cooperated with Blue Water for more than 30 years and Blue Water is characterised by not being an ordinary freight forwarder. They put more soul into their work and see the projects through, and they know the importance of keeping up with schedule especially regarding exhibitions where late deliveries are nearly catastrophic”, says Ulrik Dahl, CEO. of The Danish Export Association. Of course, there has been challenges

throughout the years regarding the assignments, but as Ulrik Dahls says with a smile: “We have always reached the goal. In 2013, Blue Water has delivered transport for more than 25 exhibitions for the Export Association, which has exhibition stands ranging from 50 to more than 1,000 sqm. Blue Water is present on a range of the exhibitions with staff to coordinate internally and assist with building and dismantling of the stands. Blue Water also participates as exhibitor on the joint stand of the Export Association on selected exhibitions within the areas of fishing, marine, cruise and oil/gas. “We see the joint stands as an obvious opportunity to promote ourselves together with other Danish companies in regards to foreign markets and clients, and we benefit greatly from the large network surrounding the Export Association and its members”, says Claus Bæk, responsible for the Exhibition department of Blue Water, which in total provides transport for roughly 600 international exhibitions a year.

Transports for the largest exhibition in Aalborg Blue Water has once again been responsible for the logistics for the largest exhibition in Aalborg, DanAqua & DanFish International, which was held in October. 11 full loads of exhibition cargo were transported for several of the 100 exhibitors. In addition to the logistics, employees from Blue Water helped to build and dismantle the stands. “The number of visitors was higher than two years ago and the visits from abroad increased by 8 per cent. According to several exhibitors, this has generated many new orders. Our own stand was also well visited both by other exhibitors and guests”, says General Manager from Aalborg, Ole Bøgh Ulriksen. Better facilities in Manchester Blue Water Manchester has moved into new facilities in Trafford Park due to a positive development in their activities. The positive impact on the activities in Manchester is a result of Blue Water’s transport services. “We simplify the steps in the logistics chain for our clients, saving them both time and money. In Manchester, 4,000 parcels are handled each week, but that volume will increase as of January. This also includes delivering to shops all over

Turbines installed near Belfast The joint venture Blue Water Ewings Shipping Ltd. acts as agents for the installation vessels “Pacific Orca” and “Sea Installer” which have completed the installation of foundations for the wind farm West of Duddon Sands. The cooperation continues with “Sea Installer” which will also install the turbines. In addition, Blue Water Danbrit Limited UK offers assistance by acting as agent for Nexans, which handles the inter-array cable. Further, Blue Water Danbrit arranges crew changes via England. In November, Director of Blue Water Wind Logistics Niels Tolstrup and Head of Sales & Development Jacob Kjærgaard visited Blue Water Ewings in Belfast to discuss the future development.

New offshore activity

We have always been well-placed geographically regarding important energy hubs worldwide - both for offshore wind farms and the oil and energy sector. “For years, we have been involved in chartering of vessels specifically for projects and offshore support. With the development of the offshore wind farms over the past 10 years – and the demand for offshore solution, we wish to increase our focus on the development of this activity”, says Peter Ehrhorn from Blue Water Wind Logistics. We have established an offshore support department with special focus on sup10

plying offshore accommodation (through our Comfort at Sea activity) - as well as offshore support vessels – such as crew transfer vessels, supply vessels, workboats, tugs, barges, standby vessels and DP vessels. “We aim at offering more services to our clients. In spite of being a new department, we have already experienced great interest from clients wishing to discuss how they can benefit from these value adding solutions providing both cargo as well as personnel logistics – through the construction as well as the operations and maintenance phases of their projects.

Focus on wind energy in Beijing Blue Water experienced some busy days when attending the China Wind Power 2013 Exhibition in Beijing in October. ”Through many years, we have handled wind projects, and there is no standard solution for the wind industry. That is why it is so important for us to understand the exact needs of our clients so we can create the best solution for each of the projects we are involved in. One of our great advantages is our network of more than 60 offices worldwide and many in-house competences. This enables us to offer the best service possible for our clients”, says Bjarke Nielsen from Blue Water Singapore. Carol Liu and Roy Zhai from China, Michael Rud from Denmark and Bjarke Nielsen from the office in Singapore represented Blue Water at the company’s own booth. Carol Liu was asked, by the Danish Export Association, to do a daily presentation of some views on the challenging tasks and future of transports for the wind industry - an exciting topic in today’s modern transport industry.

New assignments following Anholt Offshore Wind Farm For three years, Blue Water Shipping has been involved in several interesting assignments during the construction of Denmark’s largest wind farm - Anholt Offshore Wind Farm - which was opened in September. More than 3,000 people have been working on site during the project phase and over 100 ships have been involved. ”Since the beginning of the project in 2010, Blue Water has acted as agent and liaison for all operators involved. Further, we were one-point-of-contact for Djurs Wind Power, which is a consolidation of local companies within the offshore industry”, says General Manager from Blue Water Grenaa, Frank Larsen. Blue Water has assisted with many practical tasks such as transport of advanced equipment for drilling and measuring, storage of transformers and delivering steel constructions, machinery and crew. Other practical tasks include providing of rental cars, accommodation and phones, ”The positive feedback we have received shows that there has been a great deal of satisfaction with the way we have handled the assignments locally - and this is in large part due to our close cooperation with Djurs Wind Power. The good dialogue with our clients has already resulted in new assignments for us, and we are looking forward to assisting on new projects in the future”, says Frank Larsen.

Anholt Offshore Wind Farm is placed on an 88 square kilometre area and with 111 3.6 MW Siemens wind turbines, it supplies power to about 400,000 households. The energy group, Dong Energy, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wind farm and has established administration and operation facilities in Grenaa.

Close to the activities Blue Water has once again participated in the world’s largest offshore wind energy conference, EWEA Offshore. In recent years, the wind market has been developing fast, but this may change in the future. “We expect that the significant increase in activities for the wind sector will stagnate – at least in some areas. However,

this will not affect Blue Water because it is part of our strategy to be present in the ports where the activities are”, says Jacob Kjærgaard, Head of Sales & Development within wind in Blue Water. During the exhibition in Frankfurt, Blue Water participated with several offshore offices including the offices in France.

Offshore activity on the Danish island of Rømø There is great activity in the port of Rømø in connection with the construction of Butendiek Offshore Wind Park in the North Sea. The port has been extended with a new quay and area for storage which have facilitated its function as a base port for the service vessels involved in the offshore projects. “Since 2009, we have had an office on Rømø offering logistics solutions to the wind industry and port agency services. We look forward to being involved in both this and future offshore projects”, says Søren Stougaard, Shipbroker at Blue Water. The construction costs for the park is budgeted at DKK 10 bn. and the wind park is placed in German waters. In 2014, the park will be ready and the 80 wind turbines, with a capacity of 288 MW, are expected to deliver an output in 2015. Several companies, such as WPD, Siemens and Djurs Windpower, have established themselves on Rømø in connection with this project in order to exploit the good location and facilities of Rømø for offshore projects. All foundations, components and turbines for the Butendiek Offshore Wind Park are shipped out of Esbjerg. 11

Reefer container service out of Iceland Blue Water has launched a new reefer container service from Iceland with sailings from Reydarfjordur and Reykjavik on the east and west coast of Iceland. “We have sent containers from Iceland to Europe, Africa and the Far East without reloading and we are working to expand the activity so we can cover the rest of the world”, says Linda Björk Gunnlaugsdóttir, Sales and Operations Manager, Blue Water Reykjavik. All shipments are sent via Rotterdam, which due to its location presents good opportunities for further distribution by road, rail, air and sea. This has also earned the city its nickname as the ”Gateway to Europe”. We distribute fish directly from Iceland through our office in Rotterdam to the world markets. The service is an addition to the current trailer RO/RO service with the ferry “Norröna” from Seyðisfjordur.

One of our first clients to try out our new reefer service was HB Grandi who is one of the largest exporters of fish from Iceland. The picture is taken at our client HB Grandi’s site during loading of the containers. Kári Sölmundarson is Sales Manager at HB Grandi.

Almost 7,000 exhibitors, including Blue Water, met in Cologne in October for the Anuga food fair – the largest fair of its kind in the world. Our stand in the USAPEEC (USA Poultry & Egg Export Council) Pavilion was an optimal opportunity to promote our reefer export activities. Blue Water was represented from Europe and South America and during the arrangement we hosted a reception, which was a good opportunity to meed clients and discuss their requests.

Mine logistics in Greenland In Greenland, the prospects of further development regarding mining and extraction of raw material from the subsoil are positive. The area is very attractive for the mining industry as reports show that the raw material is of good quality. At the conference ‘Greenland Day’, which was part of the exhibition China Mining, JensErik Kirkegaard from the Department of Business, Raw Materials and the Labour Market said that within one year there would be issued at least four licences for extraction of raw material in Greenland. The second of the four license will be issued around February 2014. “Regarding the development of a ruby mine, we have extended the cooperation with our agent, the entrepreneur LNS Greenland, to be responsible for the logistics. In addition, we are working with several projects where we expect to be appointed supplier of logistics and port management. We know about the rough conditions in Greenland and the chal12

lenges envolved and we can handle the large projects because we combine our local knowledge with our in-house expertise”, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen, head of development for the North Atlantic in Blue Water.

Increased activity in Reykjavik

Blue Water enjoyes a good working relationship with Fugro Survey Ltd. Here, the vessel “Fugro Discovery” is seen when it called into port in Reykjavik. Blue Water Reykjavik has increased its activities during recent years and started offering services to the offshore industry in 2012. Fugro Survey Ltd., operating survey vessels for geotechnical interpretations, has taken use of this service. From July to October, the assignment was to handle crew changes and accommodation for 170 crew members in connection with geotechnical investigations in Greenland. As the project came to an end, “Fugro Discovey” called into port in Reykjavik where Blue Water acted as agent for the vessel.

In keeping with tradition, Blue Water invited all our General Managers from across the globe to the annual GM Meeting at the company headquarters in Esbjerg, Denmark. More than 100 managers and key staff met in September and spent four days sharing knowledge across business areas and offices to ensure that every Blue Water office knows and follows the company strategy, mission and values. ”We all want to develop the business and it was a couple of eventful days where we have had a good dialogue about how

Blue Water can strengthen itself in the future and make full use of the competences we have within the organisation, says Managing Director Kim Hedegaard Sørensen. In addition to presentations and lectures, the event left some time for social events - unfolding the Blue Water spirit regardless of cultural background. This is an important aspect of the arrangement, as it strengthens the great team spirit and network between the offices which is very characteristic for the company.

Offshore profits for Danish companies Danish companies must take advantage of the large potential for the offshore industry in the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. This was the overall agenda for the offshore conference hosted by Offshoreenergy.dk in November at Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg. ”The conference was for companies, which like us, focus a great deal on business development in the area. For decades, we have built experience from the Caspan Sea where we today have offices

in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia. It is a very exciting area and the conference focused on the challenges and opportunities within the market”, says Thomas Bek, Global Manager for Blue Water’s Oil and Gas activities. In addition to a presentation from Blue Water there were presentations from several Danish companies including Viking Life-Saving Equipment and Welltec.

Blue Water’s founder and chairman, Kurt Skov, presented Blue Water at the conference. There were also a speech given by the Minister of Trade and European Affairs, Nick Hækkerup. Fl. Peter Blach/Offshoreenergy.dk, Nick Hækkerup and Kurt Skov.

New method is better Blue Water Copenhagen cooperated with Danish consultancy firm Worklife to carry out a workplace assessment by interviewing the employees in groups instead of individual interviews, and the results are good. “This new method encourages a dialogue which makes it easier for employees to respond with both positive and negative aspects. It is a time saver for the working environment representatives and produces good results and useful input”, says Pia Kreutzfeldt from Blue Water Copenhagen. Following the group meetings, all input from the employees were registered in an action plan. The method of using group interviews has previously been used in Blue Water with success. “We have used this method in Esbjerg, and now it has spread to Copenhagen. We anticipate that the method will be used at Blue Water offices all over the world in the future”, says Dorte Mundt Andersen, Group HSSE & Quality Manager.

Visit from Priano Marchelli

In the beginning of October, our good cruise partner, with whom we own Cruise & Marine Logistic Network, Priano Marchelli, visited us in Esbjerg. The primary purpose of their visit was to meet our team handling oil, energy and projects as Priano Marhcelli now handle these activities in Italy on behalf of Blue Water. Before the return trip the Managing Director of Esbjerg Football Club, Søren Poulsen, gave a guided tour of Blue Water Arena which was a delight for our Italian friends from Genoa who are ‘crazy’ about football.

Teambuilding at sea and in the air 22 employees from Blue Water Kolding completed a team building programme with canoeing and gliding in the beginning of October. The day began with about 9 kilometres of canoeing which was completed by all teams within three

hours and only one canoe keeled over. The first two hours in the canoe was nice and quiet. Then, the competition for being the first canoes crossing the finish line began and the prize for the two winning canoes was to try a glider. After the

race, the competitors spent a few hours together on a nearby inn. The day after, all the competitors could look up to the winners as they received their prize: a trip in the glider about 500 metres above ground.

Three days on the bike 500 km in three days. That was the recipe for the charity bike race SE Touren, which Blue Water both sponsors and participates in. A very fit Kurt Skov led the Blue Water team through the Danish countryside with the peloton’s 220 riders. The purpose of the race is to raise money for the organisation Save the Children Denmark, and after the race the organisation received 608,000 Danish kroner from SE Touren, which is the largest Danish race for recreational athletes.

Lifeguards on seminar Ten instructors and life Guards from a Danish school for Lifeguards visited Maersk Training Center in Esbjerg with help from Blue Water, who finansed the seminar for the participants. “We trained different situations we can

encounter in the water and various scenarios with cranes simulating a chopper. It was a really good trip and all our volunteer life guards had a good day”, says Poul Bengtson from the Life Guard School of Djursland.

The Danish crown prince, Frederik, visited Blue Water Arena for the UEFA Europa League football game between Esbjerg and Austrian Salzburg. Here, the crown prince is seen in company with Kurt and Gyrithe Skov. Esbjerg lost the game 1-2 but both Esbjerg and Salzburg have qualified for the knock-out phase which begins this spring. In the group stage, Esbjerg delivered great results by winning the games against Belgian Standard Liege and Swedish Elfsborg. 14

Crayfish party in Vietnam

Walking 7,000 km in four weeks 11 million steps or nearly 7,000 km. That was the distance the employees from Blue Water in Aalborg covered in four weeks as part of an internal competition. The office was divided into six teams, each with an appointed team captain. All employees were given a pedometer, and during the competition there were prizes for both individual and team performances. The team competition was won by the warehouse staff who completed nearly 3.5 million steps.

The General Manager, Flemming Johannesen, and the six employees from Blue Water’s Vietnam office all participated in the annual crayfish party arranged by Nordcham – the Nordic Chamber of Commerce. The Nordic menu was crayfish made from Swedish recipes, Nor-

More golfers than ever The annual Blue Water golf tournament in Denmark has been conducted – and this year with a record number of participants. The players avoided bad weather, and even though not everyone was pleased about the result on the course there was only laughter and smiley faces both during the match and at the following buffet and prize ceremony in Fredericia Golf Club. The winner of the tournament for advanced players was Hanne Lange, who is married to Bent Lange, and the internal Blue Water trophy was won by Peter Gysing Nielsen. In the beginners tournament, the winner, Claus Bæk, was unable to participate in the prize ceremony and the first prize therefore went to Carsten Lindegaard Iversen.

Farmer golf in Rotterdam

Silver medals to Greenland Blue Water Rotterdam had their annual get-together for the whole staff and their partners in September with a few hours of fun activities. One of the activities was ‘farmer golf’ which is played on a field with a golfclub made from a wooden shoe and a stick. Other activities included climbing, tractor driving, cow milking and sumo wrestling, and the event finished with a nice barbecue.

John Eldevig from Blue Water’s sea freight/ trawler division in Nuuk, Greenland was captain of the Greenland team participating in International Island Games in Bermuda. The team lost the final 1-0 to the hosts, but the captain was proud after the game. “It was a bitter defeat, but for now I am just proud that we have won silver medals for Greenland”, says John Eldevig.

Teambuilding on ice Teambuilding comes in many forms, and the colleagues from Blue Water Aalborg had arranged an ice hockey match to spend some time together outside the office. The players fought bravely and it was a great experience. After the game, they had dinner before the local Ice hockey team, Aalborg Pirates, beat Herlev Eagles with the score 6-2. 15

The most important victory Blue Water is among the sponsors for the Danish triathlete, Camilla Pedersen, who has impressed the sports world for the recent year with her good results. She is currently European Champion and had great expectations for the World Championships. But she never participated in the World Championships in Hawaii. A violent crash during training resulted in a fracture of the skull and sent Camilla close to death. For two weeks, Camilla hovered between life and death, but after three weeks in a coma she woke up. “I fought against life and I won. I think that I won because I was in the best shape of my life and because I have great willpower and a fighter instinct”, says Camilla Pedersen. In short time, her willpower and fighter instinct has given her a lot of progress after 16

the accident. She is back in Esbjerg after a stay at a rehabilitation center – and she is slowly, but very determined to get back to the carrier as a professional triathlete. “I will not suffer from permanent injuries, but I must take care of my body. I want back, and I am aware that it can take a while, but I think I will be ready for competition around May 2014”. In connection with the accident, Camilla received an enormous support from both near and far which has been overwhelming for her as her story has travelled all around the World. “I knew, that I was an inspiration for some people, but it has surprised me a lot to see how all those people show an interest in me and my situation”.

Blue Water News | No. 104 | December 2013

Jubilees 30 years On 1.3.14, Søren Stougaard has been at the helm of Blue Water’s port activities in Esbjerg for 30 years. Søren’s interest has always been concentrated on the ships and during his entire career, a lot of changes have taken place and we have seen ups and downs in the business and in the port of Esbjerg. Looking back, picking out one single activity, the feta shipments to Iran will always have a central place in Søren’s memory. However, that is all past history and fortunately, the activities in the port of Esbjerg are booming again, and in this respect Søren’s working effort has been fruitful for Blue Water. During recent years, Søren’s field of responsibility has changed from covering Esbjerg to increasing our activities in other Danish ports. This has led to new initiatives such as the Agency Denmark concept where Blue Water is represented in all the most important Danish ports, which has resulted in a heavy increase in the agency activities and the many other transport and service jobs following in their wake. In his spare time, Søren is also very active - playing ice hockey as well as football. It may not be correct to call a man who knows all the results in all sports a sports freak, but it is very close to it. And one more thing: there is no one who can tell bad jokes like Søren ! His wife Gitte, has endured Søren since the’70s and their two children, Louise 31 years, and Morten 27 years who are both studying.

Silver Anne-Marie Torsland (Rie)/deep sea department, Esbjerg will celebrate her silver jubilee on 1.2.14. Back in 1989, we were very lucky to succeed in employing Rie from The Borden Co. due to her expertise in letters of cre-dit and other documentation. Rie has spent her entire Blue Water career in the deep sea department where she is known as both all-rounder and the mother of the team. She has a contagious laugh which is mostly heard on busy days – when she is really in her element. Rie also has a geographic memory – especially when it comes to things that happened 20 years ago. In her daily work, she is mainly involved in shipping reefer containers to all corners of the world – the more the better. Rie is married to Anders who is part of the

Blue Water Stevedoring team. Rie and Anders have two children, Max & Nina, and a dog named Tøffe (named after a fabulous football player). Rie is a sports enthusiast and a great supporter of EfB (Esbjerg Football Club) and Team Esbjerg’s ladies’ handball team. She loves music from the seventies (preferably on vinyl) and is a brilliant cook and baker – to the benefit of the entire department. Furthermore, Rie’s immune system is unbelievably strong. She is always loaded with energy and during her 25 years with the company, her sick days can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Reputedly her magic potion recipe is hidden in the same place as her much desired baking recipes. Hanne Bärthel will be celebrating her silver jubilee with Blue Water on 1.2.14. Hanne forms part of our finance department in Esbjerg, where she, as Financial Manager for the international offices and companies, is responsible for one half of the operational management of the finance department. Her solid experience is based on long stationings abroad - in Ireland, Scotland and Azerbaijan - combined with numerous visits to our many offices abroad with the purpose of either starting new offices, follow up on or adapting the administration of existing offices to the company’s policies. It has always been of the utmost importance for Hanne that her department provides a top-professional service and assistance to the many Blue Water offices outside Denmark - a service that our many ge-neral managers and country managers have learnt to appreciate. Hanne’s comprehensive knowledge and competence are highly respected in the finance department and by the management, and we feel completely confident when leaving a task with Hanne and her team. We have a funny story from Aberdeen, where one of Hanne’s colleagues never handed over his receipts on time. Unfortunately he had left his wallet on the table and quickly and resolutely, Hanne managed to fish the receipts out of his wallet. Therefore the good advice is: always hand over your receipts on time! In her job, Hanne is used to handling all sorts of matters at long distance. Her niece and nephew have also benefitted from this, when Hanne via a phone call every morning motivated them and sent them off to school. This is the way she is, always thoughtful, when she in her own quiet way pulls the strings to make things work for

her surroundings - both in her private life and on the job. Hanne is an active girl and cycling is one of her leisure activities. She has for more than 10 years participated in an annual ladies’ cycling race (112 km in the beautiful southern part of Sealand). Travelling is another hobby of hers, and she has visited several counties and cities around the world. She is also a music lover and a frequent guest at various concerts. Anette Rosenbæk Larsen/Blue Water Copenhagen will be celebrating her silver jubilee on 28.2.14. Anette – also known as “Folder Madsen” – can boast of being the first colleague to celebrate a silver jubilee at the Copenhagen office. Anette has been on a tour of Denmark starting in Esbjerg via Odense to Skovlunde, Vallensbæk and now Greve (the three last-mentioned destinations belong to what we in Jutland call Copenhagen). After a practice period at Blue Water Esbjerg, Anette was taken on as a maternity cover in the accounts department, which was again exchanged for an apprenticeship on 1.1.89. Midway through her apprenticeship, Anette was transferred to Odense as the need for assistance in accounting arose. Love made Anette apply for a transfer to Copenhagen, where her boyfriend Søren (who is now her husband) was living, and both he and Blue Water Copenhagen still benefit from her pleasant company and great working performance. Today Anette performs the function of head of the accounts department in Copenhagen. For a number of years, she has also managed to find time to be a member of our safety organisation and she is active in our staff club. Anette is highly respected for her great working effort, helpfulness and her care for her colleagues, which she often shows by being easily persuaded to bake her famous Danish pastry for everybody at the office. Anette’s spare time is devoted to her family: Søren and their two lovely children Amalie and Sebastian. Jutta Damgaard Sørensen will be celebrating her silver jubilee with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.3.14. Through all the years, Jutta has been involved in the company’s rolling units. From the start, she was involved in Blue Water’s trucks at the time when we had our own haulage business. Since then, she has taken over control of the external hauliers and not forgetting the company’s fleet of trailers. Jutta is a 21

Jubilees well-liked colleague and she is very conscientious. She is 100 per cent dedica-ted, which her closest colleagues as well as the rest of the house benefit from, also in her duties as safety representative for Blue Water Esbjerg. Jutta is always busy, even in her free time. Besides nursing her husband, Peter, their grown-up children, Michael & Marianne, their three grandchildren, their summer house and their house in Alslev, Jutta also manages to find time to sing in a choir. She will never become a speed devil as she prefers only to drive her own Volkswagen. She never breaks the speed limits, but parking is a different thing which has resulted in a parking fine or two.

10 years Carsten Olsen/Blue Water Herning will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.1.14. Carsten has formed part of the team almost from the very start as he was employed four months after the opening of the office. Carsten was employed to assist in building up Blue Water’s activities in the Baltic States, Russia and the old CIS countries. He has comprehensive knowledge of these markets, in which he has been involved for more than 10 years and where we today have an efficient setup. In addition, Turkey has entered the development map, and in case enquiries regarding Macedonia, Morocco and other funny destinations should occur, Carsten will not let you down. He is a dedicated and competent colleague. The words “with constant care” cover his approach to the job. Carsten will never settle for half measures or easy solutions. When he comes up with a solution, it has always been prepared tho-roughly and everything is in order. Carsten began with Blue Water Padborg, which you normally cannot tell from his speech. However, if somebody “from the south” calls him on the telephone, it is obvious to everybody that he has not forgotten his childhood dialect. Jette Huss/Blue Water Aarhus originally served her apprenticeship with the customs authorities. However, after a few years of employment with Aarhus Toldkammer (Customs), she decided to take up new challenges in the freight forwarding business. In January 2004, she started as freight forwarder in our Norwegian department looking after the paperwork, which is quite a job in a busy and stressful world of freight forwarders and impatient 22

truck drivers. In 2010, Jette changed her course again and joined our sea import group where she is part of the operation team – still using her distinct capacity for keeping everything under control. Jette lives in Hinnerup, where she and her husband, Claus, bought a house last summer. The family also includes their daughter, Malou, and their son, Marcus, as well as two dogs. Jette likes to go for a run in her free time. She is a happy girl, who cares for other people, and she is a fantastic colleague, always ready to help whenever she can. Jette loves parties and is not afraid of taking a plunge. Tina Imer Jensen will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Aalborg on 1.3.14. Having completed her apprenticeship as a freight forwarder with Strait Air, Tina joined Blue Water’s airfreight department which she is still part of. Tina is a team player who performs her job in a conscientious and diligent way and has developed an extensive market knowledge. She is a fantastic coach and role model for her younger colleagues in the airfreight department and she has performed her duties as a mentor very professionally and competently. Tina is very loyal towards the company’s culture and strategy. She is very versatile and never satisfied until the job is completed to the client’s full satisfaction. She is hard-working and capable of keeping several balls in the air. She has for sure contributed to the progress we have seen. Tina lives together with her partner, Thomas, in Vejgaard and they have two girls Nanna and Malou. Tina is also a party animal who loves cocktails and sushi and she is a great fan of Dolly Parton. On 1.3.14, Ulrik R. Lynnerup will be ce-lebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water, Esbjerg. The main part of the time, Ulrik has performed the function of Corporate Chartering Manager in Wind Logistics. With a former career in various shipping lines and the offshore indu-stry, Ulrik can actually celebrate his 30th anniversary in the shipping/transport business. During his 10 years with Blue Water, he has shipped hundreds of wind turbines to more or less all European and Scandinavian countries. Parallel with this, Ulrik has given courses internally in Blue Water’s organisation and many of our branch offices around the world have benefitted and still benefit from Ulrik’s expert knowledge of the field. Ulrik lives with his better half in Hjerting and his hobbies include golf and Formula One car race, which he shares with his son Frederik.

On 1.3.14, Olaf Fríðheim/Blue Water Torshavn will be celebrating his 10th anniversary. Olaf performs the function of terminal foreman and keeps check of what is going on in the warehouse in respect of cargo, customers and staff. He is a man we can depend on. Olaf is married to Súnfríð and they have three children Edith, Bjartur and Niels. Olaf is involved in many things, but his great passion is football. In his opinion, there is no better team than EB / Streymur despite the fact that they have only managed to become champions once. Olaf is a lover of nature, who often takes mountain walks to keep an eye on his sheep and he hates missing the harehunting in November/December. For a period, Olaf was the mayor of Gjógv, during which time he had the pleasure of a royal visit from the queen and the prince consort. 10 years ago on 1.4.14, Abuzar Mamedov was employed as an office driver with Blue Water Caspian, Baku. Abuzar is a professional driver with more than 35 years of experience, a very disciplined and accurate driver. He is a person that one can rely on. He often performs beyond his duties, helping the staff out of office hours to deliver important parcels and letters. Abuzar is married and has a big family: three daughters and a son. He takes an active part in the company life and is a very friendly and popular team member. Abuzar is fond of politics, reading and travelling.

20 & 30 years On 25.10, two jubilees were celebrated at Wikeström & Krogius in Turku; Leena Mäki’s 20th jubilee and Riitta Valko-lehto’s 30th jubilee. Leena started her career at Wikeström & Krogius on 25.10.93 as a secretary for Consul Wikeström, who in those days was the owner and managing director of the company. Leena works in the accounting department following accounts receivable and taking care of the information needs when processes are integrated in our accounting system Mocha. Riitta joined the company Wikeström & Krogius on 19.9.83 as assistant in the accounts department assisting the company’s head accountant. During the years, she has followed the change in the shipping industry, how the business was globalised and computerised. Today Riitta is heading the accounting activities of Wikeström & Krogius.

The Blue Water Foundation backs up the Wadden Sea National Park With Blue Water’s roots and location it is obvious to support a project aimed at putting the Wadden Sea in focus. The Wadden Sea National Park is the world’s largest tidal area with migratory birds from all over the world and it is appointed by UNESCO as a nature area of remarkable universal value which earned it the right to be appointed as world heritage. “Blue Water Shipping is locally anchored in Esbjerg and thereby also in the Wadden Sea. Equal to the migratory birds of the Wadden Sea, we are also far reaching in the world with 66 offices in 28 countries

and 1,200 employees. With our support to the Wadden Sea, we can contri-bute to a local effort which gives meaning far away from our homely borders. It has also affected our decision, that the support of the Blue Water Foundation goes to a maritime cause”, explaines Kurt Skov about the basis for the cooperation. The support is for a National Park ship which is to function as a sailing embassy bringing the National Park closer to the local population. In addition, the ship is to participate in festivals, regattas and different cultural arrangements.
