THEME CRUISE

First-class cruise solutions In 1999, Blue Water started its cruise activities. At the time, it was Blue Water Amsterdam who provided freight and warehouse solutions to Holland America Line who is still our client today. The business area has grown remarkably and the services have become comprehensive. “We still offer warehouse solutions and freight via sea, air and road. We also handle documents in connection with transport of food products, crew changes and dry dock logistics when the ships come into port for repair. Today, shipbroking and agency activities are also part of the services we offer in Denmark, Greenland and Brest in France. We also provide tailor-made IT solutions for the shipping lines

which ensure the flow of pro ducts to the ships”, says Lisette Trab Munk who is Head of Blue Water’s Marine Logistics.

The culture of Blue Water is not to lean back and enjoy the view.

In 2006, an expansion took place as an office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida was opened so that Blue Water could increase its foothold in the market. Florida is an important location for the cruise indu stry and it is important to be close to the clients there. Since then, Blue Water and Italian Priano Marchelli established the Cruise & Marine Logistic Network in 2009. As both companies are privately owned, the clients benefit from a short decision-making process and a large flexibility compared

to what is offered from many large corporations. All agents and partners of the global network are chosen on the basis of their wish to deliver personal and dedicated service to the clients.

Development continues The cruise industry has developed positively and Blue Water has done its utmost to strengthen its global network and be close to the clients.

Today, cruise services are offered from Blue Water’s own offices in Miami, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Nantes, Barcelona, Dubai, Singapore and Greenland which are all key locations within the cruise industry. “It has been an interesting journey, but the development does not end here. The culture of Blue Water is not to lean back and enjoy the view. Together with our clients, we explore the markets which our clients find interesting and currently, we are working on some interesting markets which have the potential to increase both ours and our clients’ business”, says Lisette Trab Munk.

OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Why do we cooperate with Blue Water

A close contact to the clients has always been important for Blue Water. But what does it mean for the clients? We have asked Jonna Hansen, Shipping Supervisor in the logistics department at MacArtney in Esbjerg, about that. Our cooperation goes back more than 35 years. What does local and personal contact with Blue Water mean for MacArtney? It means, that Blue Water can swiftly and effectively help us with urgent needs such as a crane or a fork lift. In this respect, Blue Water’s knowledge of our products means a lot. Determining factors for your cooperation with Blue Water for more than 35 years? Safety in delivery, precision, competences and experience mean a lot for us when choosing a logistics partner. Of course our relation also mean a lot after all these years, but if the above qualities are missing, we would choose another partner. What makes Blue Water a special co operation partner? Knowledge of the industry. Blue Water has a department specifically focusing on oil and gas clients. Our needs are often determined by the projects and this is why we have chosen a transport company with knowledge of our business.

Tunnel machines to the London Underground Blue Water Marseille has organised the transport of two multifunction machines for the construction of the London Underground extension. The client, METALLIANCE, is specialised in design and manufacturing of machines and equipment used for road and tunnel works among other things. The machines measure approx. 19x2.5x3 metres and weigh 22 tons each. The underground extension is handled by the consortium ATC (Alstom - TSO - Costain). The cargo had to be offloaded with special equipment and everything went according to plan.

Contract with Semco Maritime The next two years, Blue Water will provide logistics services on a global scale to Semco Maritime. The two Esbjerg-based companies have cooperated on several rig and infrastructure projects and the joint experiences have been essential for this new contract. “Blue Water’s global experience of working in the Energy and Offshore business, their understanding of supporting a project-based environment, like Semco’s, and their flexible approach to meeting the diverse needs of Semco and our customers’ projects, means that we

are confident that we have the basis for a successful working relationship in the coming years”, says Roderick McNeil, Corporate Procurement Manager of Semco. “We have established a large international network of own offices and both companies are represented at many of the same oil and gas key locations worldwide. This gives Semco the opportunity of being close to our regional experts who have great knowledge of the local conditions”, says Thomas Bek, Global Head of Oil, Energy and Industrial Projects at Blue Water.

Huge challenge for Blue Water Singapore Blue Water Singapore had a huge challenge ahead of them when a jack-up rig, weighing 8,500 tons, was to be towed from Brazil to a shipyard in Indonesia. “Before the float-on operation could commence, the chartered semi-submer sible vessel “Xiang Rui Kou”, from Chinese operator COSCOL, had to berth at a small shipyard to load six leg sections. The conditions were challenging due to an obstructed quay, but the leg sections were loaded safely on board by a shore-based crawler crane that had just enough outreach”, says Florian Pinz, Project Chartering Manager from Blue Water Singapore. With the help of three tugs, the jackup rig was safely floated onto the semisubmersible vessel. As soon as the jack-up rig arrived at Batam Island, Indonesia, it was smoothly discharged under the supervision of Victor Pay from Blue Water Singapore. March 2015

Jacking frame to the North Sea

Reward for high safety standards In Malaysia, Aker Solutions, a global provider of products, systems and services to the oil and gas industry, has acknowledged Allen David from Blue Water Port Klang for high safety standards. “We have invested a lot of time and hard work to maintain high HSE standards to protect the people who are involved in the projects as well as Aker’s valued cargo, and I am very pleased that Aker

Solutions recognize our efforts”, says Allen David, Assistant General Manager for Blue Water Malaysia. HSSEQ is a vital part of Blue Water’s business culture and the Blue Water Group spends many resources on educating its staff and creating a common platform for knowledge sharing. Blue Water Singapore and Aker Solutions have worked together on various projects since 2009.

The American-based E&P (Exploration & Production) company HESS Corporation is in the process of installing a jacking frame (working platform) on an offshore production platform in the South Arne oil field west of Esbjerg. In this connection, Blue Water has handled the logistics and loading of the 11 large components that the frame consists of and which are manufactured in Tallinn. This was accomplished in cooperation with a local agent in Tallinn who is familiar with both the platform manufacturer and the local conditions and was responsible for the transports from the production site to the port. All elements were loaded and transported to Esbjerg where Blue Water discharged the elements to the quayside. In the first quarter of 2015, HESS Corporation has planned a similar project which Blue Water has also been awarded.

FPSO spare parts to Brazil

Blue Water has handled all logistics for SBM Offshore’s new projects - a world leader in floating production and mooring systems - in connection with the construction of several FPSOs such as “Cidade de Paraty” and “Cidade de Ilhabela”. Now, a new contract, covering transport of spare parts and equipment for FPSO “Cidade de Ilhabela” during the future production phase, has been agreed. The majority of No. 108

the cargo will be transported by ocean, mainly from the UK and USA. Right now, Blue Water is also handling the logistics in connection with the construction of “Cidade de Maricá” and “Cidade de Saquarema” as well as for the demobilisation of the FPSO “Brazil”. The shipments are handled in close cooperation between Blue Water’s offices in Rio de Janeiro and Amsterdam.

When the MV “Hav Sand” berthed at the port of Esbjerg to load ten large stair turrets for a semi-sub drilling rig, Blue Water acted as agents taking care of terminal handling in the port as well as lashing and securing on board. The turrets and their ballast weights made up 725 m3/171,000 kg. Once assembled, the items form a stair turret which are used for semi-submersible drilling rigs when they are in port for repair and maintenance work. The operation was completed according to plan and MV “Hav Sand” left Esbjerg later in the evening heading for Invergordon in Scotland where Semco Maritime, in cooperation with their partner Cromarty firth, handled the discharge.

NORTH ATLANTIC

PDAC 2015 in Toronto New cooperation agreement The Faroese shipping line, Smyril Line, and Blue Water have since 1999 enjoyed a close cooperation covering transport and logistics between the Faroe Islands, Iceland and the rest of the world. Due to Smyril Line’s financial problems, Blue Water became involved in Smyril Line in 2005 through the establishment of a joint venture, the freight company Smyril Blue Water, which handled the freight on the pax/freight ferry “Norrøna”. In 2006, this company became 100% owned by Blue Water and an agreement was made with Smyril Line that Blue Water was now in charge of the freight capacity on “Norrøna” sailing on the service between Denmark, the Faroes and Iceland. The economy in Smyril Line is back on track, and they have the last couple of years produced fine financial results. The parties have therefore decided to change …we have made a future-proof model. All employees have been offered a job with Smyril Line…

Bent Rasmussen Blue Water Shipping

the agreement with effect from 1 January 2015 meaning that the responsibility for the freight capacity on ”Norrøna” is taken over by Smyril Line. Blue Water continues as partner and will provide transport and logistics services from and to “Norrøna’s” Danish port of call, Hirtshals, and the rest of the world. This means that the parties have basically returned to the old coo peration model which was in force from 1999 to 2005. “In this connection it is naturally sad to take leave of a number of good, competent and loyal employees, but we have made a future-proof model. All employees have been offered a job with Smyril Line and we look forward to keeping contact with them as future cooperation partners”, says Bent Rasmussen, who is in charge of Blue Water’s office in Hirtshals. ”Over the years, we have enjoyed a very good cooperation with Smyril Line. Now, the cooperation changes to another model which, however, is well-known from the old days. The basis for our cooperation is still our common interest in providing the best and most flexible solutions to our clients”.

Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen and Ole Bøgh Ulriksen/both from Blue Water Aalborg will again participate in the annual mineral and mining conference, PDAC, in Toronto, Canada together with a large delegation from Greenland. The conference will take place from 1 to 4 March. “There is a great interest for Greenland and the country has a lot of different minerals of great value. A number of our present mining clients will participate in the conference – among others True North Gems, who is in the process of building a ruby mine, and Greenland Minerals & Energy”, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen, who is the General Manager in Aalborg. “Naturally we hope to establish contact with an additional number of the involved mining companies during the exhibition”.

Studies for Greenland Minerals & Energy In 2014, Blue Water made a study for Australian GM&E (Greenland Minerals & Energy). The study included an analysis of alternative freight solutions for supplies to a mine in the South of Greenland as well as transport of mineral resources from the mine, primarily to Europe and the Far East - based on a refinery at Kvanefjeldet in the South of Greenland. “In the autumn of 2014, we bid for another study, Navigational Safet y Investigation, which we will initiate in mid-February. The study is expected to be completed within eight weeks and comprises analyses of the safety for transport to/from the mining area, the

ice situation and currents of water at all seasons, monitoring possibilities in the entire area, requirements to vessels and crews, environmental protection, requirements to port facilities, meteorological and oceanographical conditions and emergency and risk procedures”, says General Manager Ole Bøgh Ulriksen/Blue Water Aalborg. Both studies will be used in the application process for obtaining a production licence for the recovery of rare earth metals in Kvanefjeldet. The company hopes for development and production in 2017/2018 when they have hopefully obtained the licence within one year. March 2015

Our clients can rely on us

Blue Water was invited to the exhibition of Irish Alison Lowry at the Glass Museum. FL: Alison Lowry, Michael Thirstrup Fogh and Maja Djozic/Blue Water Aarhus and Dan Mølgaard/Director of the Glass Museum.

For several particular reasons, Blue Water Aarhus handles all transports for the Glass Museum in Ebeltoft. “At Blue Water, there is a single approach to everything. When you depend on international transport like us, total solutions are of great importance. Blue Water is good at making package solutions. The Glass Museum has cooperated with Blue Water for many years, because we enjoy excellent service, reliability and a good personal contact”, says Dan Mølgaard, Director of the Glass Museum.

Potatoes to Algeria

At the end of 2014, Danespo shipped 4,300 tons potatoes from Esbjerg to Algeria. For many years, Blue Water has cooperated closely with Danespo and the company also handled the loading operations for this shipment. “We enjoy a good cooperation with Blue Water and together we own a warehouse at the quayside in Esbjerg with a storage capacity of approx. 2,500 tons potatoes. We work together with Blue Water on trucking to the port where the stevedores handle and load the potatoes. Blue Water is also responsible for port agency and chartering of the ships”, says Jakob Gaarde Uth, Production Manager at Danespo. Danespo is headquartered in Give and is one of Northern Europe’s leading companies within the improvement, sale and production of high quality seed potatoes and ordinary potatoes for export worldwide.

The Exhibition department handles transports for more than 800 exhibitions a year. Also, the department handles many on-site jobs ensuring that the clients will have a successful exhibition.

Blue Water’s Exhibition department is the largest in Denmark handling transports to/ from exhibitions. The team has delivered both exhibition stands and cargo from Danish exporters since the end of the seventies, and the department consists of six freight forwarders and two key account colleagues who will help in busy periods. During a varied working day, a good solution must always be found which means that thinking outside the box is sometimes necessary. “Once we experienced that a shipping line had left three containers in Hamburg so we had to charter a plane in a hurry to ensure that the cargo would arrive in Miami on time. In another situation, a strike resulted in three trucks filled with cargo being left stranded which also made it necessary for us to charter a plane for the further transport. The cargo arrives no matter what happens, because it is important for us that our clients can rely on us”, says Claus Bæk, who is in charge of the Exhibition department.

No room for errors Today, the department handles transport

for more than 800 exhibitions a year – from a single pallet to 30-35 truckloads for one exhibition. The work range is wide as members of the department are often present at the exhibitions in order to help the clients with the unpacking, packing, unloading and loading of trailers. Everyone in the department knows the importance of a smooth operation. “Exhibitions are an important niche activity because one small mistake might spoil a whole exhibition for our clients. We cannot afford to gamble with this, and we always do our best and make sure that our clients are satisfied”, says Claus Bæk.

Solving all assignments Since the late nineties, Blue Water has been a member of the worldwide trade association IELA which has members all over the world. “The membership ensures that we shall always be able to find a partner whatever the destination of delivery might be. We consider our cooperative partners as colleagues and we have worked together for many years. We have a good relationship and do what we can to help each other. Therefore, there are no assignments too big for us – we solve them all”, says Claus Bæk.

The trust of our clients is what is most important, says Claus Bæk, Head of Blue Water’s Exhibition department.

The Danish provider of ship’s windows, C.C. Jensen A/S, assigned the transport of a large amount of window frames to Blue Water. The frames were manufactured in the Turkish capital Istanbul by C.C Jensen’s partner and were later transported to the Fayard shipyard in Funen. “C.C.Jensen book their transports with Blue Water Herning. The project also involved Blue Water Lindo, which is close to the yard, where the frames will be used in the construction of two ferries, which are being built there. We work closely together both internally and externally to ensure that everything goes according to plan”, says Carsten Olsen from Blue Water Herning.

Famous Danish TV town

Blue Water has signed a contract with the Danish Armed Forces for transport to/from the North Atlantic The contract has a value of 60 million DKK and runs from January 2015 until December 2017 with options for prolongation of the contract – 4 x one year. “The agreement covers air and sea freight, logistics for the Danish Armed Forces’ drills, crew changes on the inspection vessels as well as full charter in connection with the Sirius Patrol’s expeditions in Greenland”, says Henrik Damgaard, Global Manager of Blue Water’s Government and Defence logistics.

In October, several of the involved Blue Water employees met with representatives from the Danish Armed Forces. “We met at Blue Water’s office in Nuuk for opening talks about the future assignments. This contract places high demands on our local expertise as well as on the quality and safety. The competition was tough, but our network of offices in Denmark contributes to the assignments with great experience within all types of transports”, says Henrik Damgaard.

Als Logistics – part of Blue Water On 1 January 2015, Als Logistics in Sonderborg became part of Blue Water Shipping. The clients will benefit by a strengthened organisation and Blue Water consolidates its presence in the local area “Personally, I am very happy that it is Blue Water who has acquired Als Logistics because we share the same approach to business. Local presentation, service and flexibility must always be in the top class, says Flemming Bruun Sørensen who established Als Logistics in 2008, and who will now take on the position of Manager of Blue Water Sonderborg. Until the turn

of the year, he was running Als Logistics together with his colleague Dennis Ditlefsen. The company has within few years grown bigger and stronger and has built up a large portfolio of loyal clients in and around Sonderborg. The takeover means that in the future, existing and potential clients will benefit from the big network and the solutions that Blue Water Shipping Sonderborg will be able to offer as part of an international transport company with more than 65 offices worldwide.

A copy of the town of Korsbæk, which is well-known in Denmark from one of the country’s most popular TV series ever, is being built in the amusement park Dyrehavsbakken near Copenhagen. Lóven Blue Water will handle the transport of the scenes which have been built in sections by Nordisk Elementbyg A/S. “We have decided to award the transport assignment locally, and that is why we chose Lovén Blue Water as our partner. We know each other from previous projects”, says Per Gajhede, Director of Nordisk Elementbyg A/S. Lovén Blue Water was established when Blue Water acquired the one-man business called Lovén Spedition in September.

Digital test project In 2010, Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) initiated the preparations for a test project called E link. Blue Water has participated in the project which aims at handling all cargo documents digitally and thereby reducing the paper flow. Today, rules and regulations require that all shipments must be documented in detail many times over. By launching the E link initiative, the Airport aims at digitalisation to save money, time and minimise environmental impact so that Schiphol can maintain its position as a leading airport for cargo. Several companies in the Amsterdam air freight industry have participated and tested E link. The overall goal is to benefit the worldwide air freight industry, optimise processes and serve clients with the best tools possible as well as making an effort to minimise environmental impact.

Global knowledge sharing of Wind Blue Water wants to focus on the wind segment through a global expansion of the activities and this has increased the need for a joint strategy focusing on knowledge sharing and global coordination. Therefore, it has been agreed that Jacob Kjærgaard will take on the position of Head of Global Business Development, Wind. Jacob has been with Blue Water since 2010 and has an extensive knowledge of the wind industry and the clients - particularly Northern Europe and offshore clients. velop the strategy for our wind activities, such as establish a resource and knowledgesharing culture and create a platform to support this and to coordinate and ensure that the overall effort benefits the entire organisation. Blue Water has for the past 20 years been deeply involved in wind logistics. The major part of our wind activity is today based around Denmark – in particular Esbjerg and Lindo - but also France, UK, Brazil and Singapore have been involved in several big wind projects - the latest being the Caparispisan project in the Philippines. In the future, we will be working hard on entering new markets through the services that generate the best synergies.

OFFICE PRESENTATION

Russia

Moscow Manager: Vladimir Ovchinnikov Established: 1994 Employees: 5 Primary activities:

Blue Water established an office in Moscow in 1994 with representation and support functions for other Blue Water offices with business to/ from Russia. The activities were mainly road full loads and groupage from the UK and import shipments of meat, fruit and equipment via St. Petersburg port. Parallel with the above internal cooperation, the office started to develop its own business activity in Russia in 1995. One of the key points was the establishment of partnerships, not only with Russian carriers and customs terminals, but also with the agents and carriers in the Baltic states, in order to improve transshipment and documentation operations”, says General Manager Vladimir Ovchinnikov. Within the recent ten years, the Moscow of-

10

fice has participated in many project shipments into Russia – as well as transit through Russia by road, river and sea. The biggest projects included transshipment and delivery of oil/gas rigs and equipment to the Caspian region via the Russian waterways for key clients such as BP, Technip, Keppel Fels and Lamprell. “We take good care of our clients and do our utmost to meet their requirements and we are always flexible to try new routes and services”. Blue Water Moscow has a long-time cooperation with several Blue Water offices and will for a continued success use all the advantages and possibilities of the global network of offices to win new business and continue providing high quality service.

Renewal of ro/ro agreement We have prolonged our good cooperation with Vestas on a ro/ro transport agreement between Denmark and Germany. The contract includes to weekly departures where we deliver all forms of wind turbine components from Aarhus to our terminal in Rostock. “In cooperation with Vestas and our technical department, we have developed specialised equipment specifically for this

World’s largest exhibition

type of transport. The equipment makes it possible to roll the cargo on and off the vessel which makes the operation easier, faster and enhances safety. We believe that ro/ro transport will be in high demand in the future as is provides clear advantages on some locations”, says Brian Sørensen, Sales and Development Manager for Blue Water Wind. The well-attended EWEA exhibition.

The world’s largest offshore wind exhibition, EWEA Offshore, took place on 10-12 March in Copenhagen and Blue Water was among the participants. It was a good opportunity to meet manufacturers, developers, operators as well as maintenance and installation companies from the industry. Having participated in previous years’ exhibitions has given us a lot of good experiences as well as an indication of the trend of the industry and how we can develop the services. This year’s exhibition was the tenth anniversary of the EWEA Offshore and to mark the occasion, the event returned to Copenhagen where it all started. Blue Water was represented at the exhibition with its own stand to welcome clients, partners and other interested visitors.

Agreement for offshore wind farm In connection with the offshore wind farm Amrumbank West, Blue Water has been nominated as port agent and to supply support services for port calls in the port of Esbjerg and on Romo. Amrumbank West consists of 80 x 3.6 MW Siemens turbines and can, when completed, deliver energy for 300,000 households in Germany. The project is already well underway and the first ships have called at port in Esbjerg, where Blue Water also handles the turbines on terminal as well as the loading on board the installation vessels on behalf of Siemens.

PORT SERVICES & AGENCY

Growth at Lindo

Blue Water Lindo, located right between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea in the international port of Lindo, has experienced a strong development. “We have strengthened our operations since the office was established in 2011, by working closely together with our clients to create the best and most flexible solutions”, says Kim Thygesen, General Manager at Blue Water Lindo. Today the office has 35 employees primarily offering services for transport and stevedoring in addition to port services and agency. With unique storage facilities, the clients are offered swift and precise handling of large and heavy constructions and machinery parts of up to 1000 tons.

New contract with Vestas Blue Water is pleased with being awarded another contract from Vestas. The contract covers terminal handling and stevedoring in Danish ports for the wind turbines of Vestas Wind Systems. “The contract runs in 2015 and 2016 and is in fact a continuation of the recent years’ good cooperation between Vestas and Blue Water, where we have been responsible for the handling of more than 140 vessels in the port of Esbjerg”, says Per Jensen, who is General Manager Terminal and Stevedoring at Blue Water.

12

Expanded Shipbroking and Port Agency activity In recent years, Blue Water Shipping’s port activities have developed rapidly with activities in an increasing number of Danish port. Blue Water now extends its activities within shipbroking and port agency in the ports at Lolland-Falster. The port activities include shipbroking, chartering, stevedoring as well as terminal and warehouse services which are offered to all types of vessels and cargo. Blue Water is represented with its own offices in the ports of Nakskov, Rodby and Bandholm whereas the company’s own people or local partners will be servicing for instance Orehoved and Nykobing Falster.

“It is natural for us to be close to the markets with activities and where we can see potential for further development together with our clients. With this new structure, Blue Water is able to offer the most nationwide port agency product in Denmark which holds good possibilities for being an active player in the development of the activities in Danish ports. Our new activities on Lolland-Falster are connected with the large construction activities in the region and are also a natural strengthening of our present set-up in the region”, explains Søren Stougaard who is responsible for Blue Water’s port agency activities in Denmark.

New Port Agency Manager In 2014, Blue Water provided services to a record amount of ships in the port of Esbjerg – primarily from the Offshore and Oil & Gas Industry. This pleased Peter Gysing Nielsen, who took over the role as Manager of the agency department in Esbjerg on 1 January. Peter joined Blue Water in 2011. From his previous employments in the transport industry, Peter has the necessary experience and competences to develop Blue Water’s port agency activities. “On a daily basis, I work closely together with Klaus Odby Jensen, who is responsible for the operational part of our activities. We divide the duties between us, but our common goal is to strengthen our set-up and develop our solutions through innovative thinking

in order to service the ships in the best way possible”, says Peter Gysing Nielsen. “Offshore projects, such as DanTysk, Butendiek and Humbergateway, have created great activity and we have acted as one-point-of-contact, handling assignments including contact to the authorities, crew change and waste management and also visits to the doctor if nec essary. Providing services to ships arriving in the port with bulk materials such as oil pro ducts, coal, grains and crushed stone as well as handling the loading of potatoes is still a core product for us”.

Growth within Reefer Transport 2014 was a good year for Blue Water’s Reefer Road Transport in Europe

Over the years, Blue Water has built considerable traffics of reefer trucks transporting meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and other types of food products. These traffics primarily run between Northern and Southern Europe where meat and fish are transported to the markets in the South of Europe and from there, fruit and vegetables are loaded for the northern markets. “Blue Water has around 250 reefer trucks on the roads in Europe and throughout the recent year, we have experienced a significant growth in volumes. This is in particular a result of the improved economies in Europe”, says Carsten Steffensen,

who is responsible for Blue Water’s Reefer Road activities. Blue Water’s trucks have a lot of mo dern equipment facilitating for instance monitoring of the trailers’ positions, door openings as well as the temperature via GPRS (wireless communication service). In addition, each trailer can be divided into refrigerated and freezer sections as the case may require. This gives a high degree of flexibility for those clients who have varying types of chilled/frozen cargo. “With our comprehensive traffics and equipment, we have excellent possibilities to solve our clients’ individual transport needs, also when the clients have minor

quantities of goods requiring different temperatures to be transported on the same trailer”, says Carsten Steffensen. A large part of the fish which is transported by truck from Denmark to Southern Europe originally comes from the North Atlantic and is transported to Denmark by sea. At Blue Water’s large reefer terminal in Padborg, the fish is reloaded to the re levant traffics, but a large part of the fish is also shipped to overseas destinations by plane and container vessels. “In close cooperation with our clients, we have built a strong logistics flow for goods to far as well as near markets”, says Carsten Steffensen.

Ultra-modern trailers

Blue Water has acquired new reefer and curtain trailers, which are updated with new technology. The equipment on each trailer is adapted to the relevant climate. Trailers for the Nordic traffics have for instance equipment installed which makes No. 108

them capable of resisting the harsh winter. So far, 80 trailers have been delivered out of a total order for 160 trailers. Before the final equipment will be installed and while the trailers are waiting to get on the road, they are all parked on three large

sites in Padborg. This gives good exposure in the town just like they will no doubt become a visual attraction throughout Europe where Blue Water now has about 1,000 trailers on the roads.

“Trainees have very good career options in Blue Water”, says HR Assistant Lone Willumsen - here, talking with two of our freight forwarders belonging to the 90 per cent who have continued their career in Blue Water.

Great interest for a career in Blue Water Trainees are vital for the future of the company and the annual recruiting is popular The annual trainee recruitment is one of the big events for Blue Water because trainees are a vital part of the company’s future. Every year, Blue Water recruits, trains and educates many talented and ambitious young people and despite the increasing demands to the coming trainees, the amount of applicants has increased. “The recruitment process is very important for us as almost all our trainees continue their career in Blue Water after their training period. We spend a lot of time evaluating and choosing the right

candidates. Naturally, we attach importance to their educational background and marks, but the personal qualities are also very important”, says Lone Willumsen, who is responsible for trainee recruitment in Blue Water. In addition to having a good educational background, preferably from the Business Academy, Blue Water prefers if the candidates have work experience showing that they are capable of making an effort, administering their time and keeping several balls in the air. “The slogan of this year’s campaign

Agreement with Bandholm Port Blue Water entered into cooperation with Knuthenborg/ Bandholm Port as from 1 January 2015. This means that Blue Water has taken over the day-to-day operation and management of the only privately owned industrial port in Denmark. A very important part of the agreement includes Blue Water’s responsibility for promotion and sale of the port’s services on a local, national as well as international scale. In addition, Blue Water has established offices in the nearby ports of Nakskov and Rodby and will provide services to the ports of Nykobing Falster and Orehoved as well. “We have a strong local network, but it was clear to us that if Bandholm Port should be of optimal use in the future Fehmarn tunnel project – an 18-kilometre tunnel construction linking Germany and Denmark – we needed a partner with a strong

international profile. Many companies were interested in becoming part of the project, but we had not the slightest doubt that Blue Water would be the optimal partner for the project”, says Count Christoffer Knuth of Knuthenborg Estate “We see the new projects in Bandholm Port as very interesting and as a complimentary product to our agency services, not only in connection with the present operation and the existing good clients, but also in connection with the interes ting projects which we believe we can develop and handle together with and through the port in the future. Via our network, we will work hard to generate additional volumes to the port”, says Niels Tolstrup/Blue Water Copenhagen, who has negotiated the contract with Bandholm Port.

OFFICE PRESENTATION

Denmark

Aarhus Manager: Poul Aarre Established: 1991 Employees: 78 Primary activities:

Blue Water Aarhus was originally established as a sales office back in 1991 – with just one employee who was responsible for sales in Aarhus and Central Jutland. The office has since then increased gradually and changed address a couple of times – from the first humble facilities to our present office and warehouse in the industrial area in the northern part of Aarhus called Hinnerup. The primary activities include road traffic to Norway, Sweden and Finland where we offer daily departures to the most important destinations - general freight forwarding with focus on custom-designed solutions - sea freight import and export worldwide with focus on the LCL and FCL segment and Gateway sea import worldwide for the Nordic region - air freight and courier service – parcel distribution

with focus on the local clients – and logistics. “We have recently strengthened our Nordic distribution set-up through a cooperation agreement with PostNord – the leading supplier of communication and logistics solutions to, from and within the Nordic region. They will in future handle the distribution of the large amount of parcels, pallets and groupage that we handle for our clients in the Nordic region, says General Manager Poul Aarre. ”The future looks bright with increasing vo lumes and with new products within the pallet and parcel segment, we can offer our clients an even better service at a competitive price. To be able to meet the demands of a further growth, we are contemplating an extension of the facilities in Aarhus”, concludes Poul Aarre.

BLUE WATER SPIRIT

Healthy living in Aalborg Last autumn, Jonas Buus from Koncept Sund gave a highly motivational health presentation to our Aalborg colleagues. Today, four months later, Jonas’ advice and guidance are still being followed “We did by no means regard the presentation as a finger-wagging rather as an inspiration to easily adopt a healthy living – simply by using our common sense. The presentation and measurement of the body state of health made us all think twice. There is no doubt that we all knew our sore spots, which were now confirmed by the result of the measurement. We have cut heavily down on cakes and sweets – from eating sweets 3-4 times a week to only a couple of times a month – which for sure is a positive initiative”, says the girls from Sea Freight Greenland in Aalborg, who are looking forward to the health follow-up by Jonas this spring.

Mini golf with Sapa and new agreement

Tricks from champion Together with a delegation from our trusted client Mondial Foods, Blue Water Rotterdam participated in a Weber grill event. The event began with an introduction from the Dutch barbecue champion and specialist Ralph de Kok. After some

tips and tricks from him, all participants were divided into teams and had to prepare their own courses. After hours of preparation, grilling, laughing and talking, the teams enjoyed the meals together in high spirits.

Ole Bøgh Ulriksen/Blue Water Aalborg giving a presentation to the students.

Cooperation agreement with Business College Blue Water Aalborg has made a cooperation agreement with Aalborg Business College. The agreement, which among other things include two annual visits with presentations by Blue Water, has already proved to be a success. Recently, 100 students and five teachers paid a visit to Blue Water Aalborg. The purpose of the visit was to give both students and teachers an idea of what we are really doing – not just transports from A to B, but also logistics, IT and much more. Soon after, the business college had an open house, at which Blue Water was also represented. And in week 4, an educational exhibition took place at Aalborg Congress & Culture Centre, at which we gave a presentation of the shipping business.

In week 11, we will visit the second year students (200 students in total) and give presentations of Incoterms, transport law and cargo insurance. “We have chosen a class of first year students, called the Blue Water Class, to whom we will pay additional visits and give presentations during their three year study. The business college also has a Business Kick Off Group (BKO), consisting of 60 students, for whom Blue Water is co-sponsor. The cooperation agreement is made visible through Blue Water pos ters in the Blue Water Class as well as in the study and meeting area of the BKO Group”, says the General Manager of our Aalborg office Ole Bøgh Ulriksen.

Wide support to the Forwarders’ Cup This year’s Forwarders’ Cup was held in February in Esbjerg where Blue Water participated with 11 teams. They were divided into six men’s teams, three mix teams and two old boys’ teams. Everybody put up a good fight to ensure honour and glory to Blue Water. The men’s teams

Camilla Pedersen honored for great results The Danish triathlete Camilla Pedersen, who is sponsored by Blue Water, has been awarded the prize for being ‘Athlete of the year’ in Denmark. The prize is awarded by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, the National Olympic Committee and the Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF). One year after a serious bicycle crash, she has fought her way back and won the world championship. In 2014, she won eight out of the twelve competitions she participated in. “We are very happy for Camilla. It is good to see that her amazing achievements are recognized. She has fought her way back to the top against all odds and her fighting spirit is no doubt an inspiration for everyone”, says the Chairman of Blue Water, Kurt Skov, who follows Camilla’s performances closely Camilla also won the BT Gold Award. The winner of this particular prize, is found by voting among the sports athletes. Most recently Camilla has also been voted “Citizen of the year” in Esbjerg and won the Esbjerg Sports Award.

lost the final, however, both first and second place were secured in the mixed series. Finally, one of our old boys’ teams repeated the triumph from last year and took first place. The tournament finished with a party in the evening.

Christmas visit The teams from Blue Water fought their best to win the Forwarders’ Cup.

In December, haulier Alrimda from Lithuania, disguised as Santa Claus, paid a visit to Blue Water’s office in Aarhus with a present to everyone in our Swedish department. Here is Santa, alias Ramos from Alrimda.

Study trip to Brazil

A group of Danish Business Development Engineer students from Aarhus University visited Blue Water Rio du ring a study trip to Brazil. The aim was to gather knowledge about the Brazilian innovation, business, future perspectives and some fresh views on Blue Water’s future challenges and development. During the visit, the students received both a general presentation of Blue Water as well as a presentation focusing on the local business areas and the scope of work.

Blue Water supports kayak club

Last summer, Blue Water Aalborg supported the local kayak club in Ilulissat, Greenland in connection with a big kayak event in Qaqortoq. Greenland Kayak Association was established 30 years ago with a view to protecting the kayak and its culture. If the kayak was never invented, they say that 18

the Greenland people would not exist. These annual kayak events are therefore very important for Greenland’s identity and they are followed with great interest. “Every year, two challenge cups are offered – one for participants below and one for participants above the age of 15. The village that has won most gold medals,

will be awarded the challenge cup. If Ilulissat wins the senior sup again next year, it will belong to the club in future. We wish to thank Blue Water for supporting the children, the culture and the kayak sport in Greenland”, says the Chairman of Qajak Ilulissat John Pedersen.

Jubilees Silver Michelle Minto-Le Dreff

19.03.90–19.03.2015

On 19.3.2005, the very young Michelle Minto/Blue Water Brest (now Minto-Le Dreff ) started to work at Blue Water Dublin where she took care of a bit of everything. The main activity of the office was the reefer export business which Michelle has never given up since. Very soon, Michelle expressed a wish to work abroad, and in 1994 she was transferred to the Lauritzen Reefers department in Esbjerg for a one-year period. Next step No. 108

was a short detour to Blue Water Liverpool before she, in the beginning of 1996, arrived at Blue Water Brest. Here, she learnt the reefer chartering brokerage, and after more than ten years as head of this department, together with her colleague Robyn, she recently switched to the container department where she is now managing the reefer export activity. No matter how interesting the reefer activity in Brest is, it does not look like this was the only reason that Michelle stopped her globetrotter career in Brest. The true reason is more likely Pierre Yves, who has now been her husband for more than ten years and the father of her three children; Sarah (8), Nathan (3) and baby brother Dylan, who was born on 6 December last year.

20th Tom Holm

12.06.95–12.06.2015

Tom Holm/Blue Water Aalborg will cele brate his 20th anniversary on 12.6. Tom has for many years performed the function of terminal manager in Aalborg. He is very enthusiastic and committed and he gladly contributes efficient and creative solutions. Tom’s creativity manifests itself in the way he handles the exhibition goods at the biggest exhibition in Aalborg, Danfish International, which takes place every other year with Blue Water as ex21

Jubilees hibition forwarder. Tom has many irons in the fire, in fact, he has two jobs. In addition to running the terminal in Aalborg, he is also a voluntary firefighter and first aid instructor. And he is also the one who prepares gourmet dinner for his colleagues on their annual skiing excursion. Tom has just given up playing football for Nibe Dream Team as he has become too old for that. However, this has not made him slow down, as he has taken up cycling instead. And he also still goes skiing with the “boys”. Tom’s wife Anette and his two almost grown-up daughters always back him up in respect of his job and his leisure pursuits.

20th Anna Kurilets

14.06.95–14.06.2015

Anna Kurilets/Blue Water Moscow will be celebrating her 20th anniversary on 14.6. Anna started her career in Blue Water as a transport forwarding operator and has since become a brilliant business development manager. It seems that Anna knows everything that concerns our business: transport, customs, accounting etc. In addition to her razorsharp wit, we shall not forget to mention her strong character which is well-known all over the Blue Water world. She always performs her very best, which our clients have benefitted by for many years. They all know that Anna will do anything to handle the transport challenges they may have. She is always open to innovative thinking. Anna has a lot of different interests. She likes and understands painting, theatre and music. She also enjoys visiting good restaurants to try foreign cooking. Being a good cook herself, she is not afraid to cook new dishes and to test them on her family and friends. Anna cherishes her big family and prefers to spend her free time together with them in the family’s country house where she has created a wonderful garden with lots of colourful flowers. The family also includes a huge “black bear”, which was once given to Anna as a present. At that time, he was just a little puppy. 22

20th Nasim Malik

17.06.95–17.06.2015

Nasim Malik/Blue Water Dubai will cele brate his 20th anniversary on 17.6. Nasim joined Blue Water in 1995 with 18 years of shipping experience from his employment with Sotinmar Shipping/DTTC, Dubai. He was employed as manager for our then small shipping department, a position he still holds. Over the years, the department has grown in size and is now very diversified focusing on tailor-made solutions to our customers. Nasim is highly respected with both his colleagues and our customers due to his vast knowledge of the shipping industry. Nasim’s sincere approach to his duties means that he is often seen in the office during weekends – which is probably not always popular with his family, which includes his wife and son Mustafa. However, Nasim does have some free time, where he makes sure he does exercises to stay fit and keep his body healthy. As a very proud father, Nasim has supported his son’s overseas education for years and is now very pleased and relieved that Mustafa has returned to Dubai to pursue his carreer close to the family.

10th Lasse Reuss

14.03.05–14.03.2015

Lasse Reuss/Blue Water Esbjerg started as trainee at our Esbjerg office on 14.3.2005. After a detour to agency and the UK department, Lasse joined our exhibition group, in his first year of apprenticeship, due to an acute need for reinforcement of this team. When Lasse completed his apprenticeship in 2007, the exhibition department decided to extend his contract and keep him in the team despite the fact that they had not yet succeeded in persuading him not to support Liverpool FC – a job they are still working on.

Lasse has always been very dedicated – and the clients are very happy for the excellent service he provides. Over the years, Lasse has suffered from a lot of football injuries, but still he believes that one day he will be playing a match at Anfield Road. Lasse is married to Camilla, who is also employed at Blue Water (Technical Wind Support), and they have two children, Nanna and Noah, aged three and one respectively. In addition to football, Lasse loves playing Bezzerwizzer

10th Peter Rosendahl Laursen

30.03.05–30.03.2015

Peter Rosendahl Laursen/Blue Water Aarhus will celebrate his 10th anniversary on 30.3. Peter is and has always been an important part of our local key account team. Peter has helped building the department from scratch - from only two persons to the present eight colleagues. Peter is known for making witty and funny remarks and takes pride in answering our clients promptly and professionally. Peter is well aware of the difficult balance of being part of key accounts servicing clients as well as colleagues. Peter is married to Michaela and is the father of three sons. In his free time, he goes hunting, works out and plays football with his kids. As a former military man, it is important for Peter to keep in shape. His particular military attitude makes Peter appear a little stiff and correct like an old major. But he is as good as gold. If you meet him on the staircase or during a break, you will often hear the remark “You want a hug or a punch?” (fortunately he prefers hugs). There is no doubt that behind his hard-boiled facade, you will find a cheerful and warm colleague with a heart of gold.

10th Kenneth Ruby

01.04.05–01.04.2015

March 2015

HUMAN RESOURCES

Jubilees Kenneth Ruby/Blue Water Copenhagen will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on 1.4. Kenneth has travelled far and wide during his 10 years with Blue Water and has been involved in many different jobs, which have given him a great ballast. In addition to Denmark, he has spent three years in Sisimiut, Greenland and two years in Singapore. Today, Kenneth is attached to our O&E project department in Esbjerg, but is physically based in Copenhagen when he is not working abroad on some project. Kenneth is always very dedicated and thrives on major projects. Shortly before his transfer to Singapore, Kenneth met Trine. And what a meeting. Trine simply went with him to Singapore and soon after they got married (in Denmark). Today, Trine and Kenneth and their two-year-old twin boys live in Copenhagen – and in a not too distant future we have heard that the family will be increased by yet another set of twin boys. For the recent one and a half years, purchase of a house, moving in, mould problems, moving out, rebuilding etc. have taken up most of the couple’s time. But Kenneth is a meticulous person, who always does his homework – we almost suspect him of having an extra job as a property consultant.

10th Morten Hedeholm Kjær

01.04.05–01.04.2015

Morten Hedeholm Kjær/Blue Water Aarhus will be celebrating his 10th anniversary on 1.4. Morten originally started his career with Blue Water in our key account department in Aalborg, but after a period, he was transferred to our Norwegian team in Aarhus. Here, his customs expertise is highly appreciated by our clients as well as by Morten’s colleagues, whom he is guiding through various customs-related challenges. Morten is also superuser on the Mocha system. In his capacity of customs expert and with a diploma degree, Morten is naturally a legalist, who is anxious that the rules and paragraphs are followed – especially the customs rules. He is therefore the customs authorities’ pronounced favourite, and No. 108

Blue Water Aarhus is always commended for their compliance at the customs authorities’ rare visits of inspection. Morten’s great passions are camping and wine. His caravan is always ready and France is the favorite holiday destination, where wine is plentiful.

10th Anette Flintau Hansen

01.05.05–01.05.2015

Anette Flintau Hansen/Blue Water Odense will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water Odense on 1.5. Anette started her Blue Water career in our Norwegian team, but three months later, she was transferred to the customs department where she has hung out since. Anette has acquired the customs diploma degree and is able to handle any customs matter for our different offices. Anette plays tennis and is also chairwoman in the local tennis club. When time – and her health – permit, exercises and walks with her friends fill her programme. Anette is a family person and seizes every opportunity to gather the closest family for dinner/brunch or a small party. The three boys of her life – Henrik, Chris toffer and Frederik – cannot find a single thing to complain about on the home front. For the last couple of years, their house has been renovated which resulted in several months without kitchen facilities and heating. But Anette handled it all with a smile. Anette loves travelling to Canada together with her family. Just now, they are planning their sixth trip down to the last detail.

10th Charlotte B. Kvistgaard

01.06.05–01.06.2015

On 1.6, Charlotte Brokholm Kvistgaard/ Blue Water Aarhus will celebrate her 10th anniversary. Charlotte joined Blue Water from an accounting job with Home (chain

of real estate agents). In Blue Water, Charlotte has always formed part of the accounts department in Aarhus where her primary responsibility is to encourage the clients to pay on time. A perfect job for Charlotte and she performs it with great enthusiasm. Charlotte lives in Termestrup with her husband, Benny, and his and her own children (four in total). The whole family spends a large part of their free time playing floorball. Recently, Charlotte started keeping goal and it is easy to tell when there has been a match (there is no doubt her muscles are aching?). At lunch time, Charlotte is always talking and often distributing baking recipes – often followed by a taste of the cake.

10th Christian Kjær

13.06.05–13.06.2015

On 13.6, Christian Kjær/Blue Water Esbjerg will celebrate his 10th anniversary. Christian has, however, been with Blue Water for almost 14 years in total, but has made a couple of detours only to be “headhunted” back to the paddock. This has proved to be a good decision as he has developed into an all-round freight forwarder who has been involved in almost all traffics in the West European department – France, Spain and Poland. Export Poland is now Christian’s primary responsibility and with his sense of order, precision and superb structuring, he makes a tremendous effort. The Kjær family in the little town of Ribe includes Christian’s wife Tanja and the three children Jeppe, Anna and Mette as well as the dog Mille and the budgie Como. Cycling is Christian’s primary inte rest and has his full support despite the somewhat tarnished reputation of the sport. “Nowadays, the entire sporting world is using doping” Christian concludes. Another interest is wine and dine and when he and his “West European” colleagues meet to have a good time, drinking red wine and eating good food, Christian is in his element. However, he lacks the bump of locality as his alcohol intake increases. 23

Touring the Middle East Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Jordan

Looking back at a long business relationship with the Middle East, it is always interesting to return and see the development that has taken place. Blue Water’s Middle East adventure started in the late seventies with large shipments of food products by impressive conventional reefer vessels – from Lauritzen Reefers – from Denmark, Holland and France to the important ports in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf. In addition, we shipped huge quantities of feta cheese from MD Foods/Arla from Denmark to Iran.

Skov, who has recently returned from a trip to our Middle East offices together with his wife Gyrithe. Blue Water has been represented with its own office in Dubai since 1991 when Arne Iversen started up the office. Arne is now back and has taken over his old job from Claus Laursen, who will now concentrate on the development of project transport in the Middle East and Central Asia. Since 2008, we have had an office in Doha. The management of this office is in safe hands with John Daniel.

Business and pleasure “The purpose of the tour was to visit our own offices, local sponsors (who are also our partners) and major clients – and also having time to visit tourist attractions. “In particular in Jordan, it was very interesting to visit our own office in Amman for the first time. This office was opened in 2014 with Rami Al-Qutup at the helm, whom I met exactly 30 years ago when he was a young shipping clerk in Kuwait. Furthermore we visited the strategically important port of Aqaba as well as beautiful Petra”, says Kurt Skov.

Incredible development

Handball World Cup

“Since the eighties, we have visited the Middle East regularly and every time, we have seen changes. Previously, it was mainly in Dubai, but this time Doha has outnumbered Dubai in number of construction cranes. An amazing development has taken place since our first visit until today, where Doha is flourishing with new projects everywhere” says Blue Water’s Founder and Chairman of the Board Kurt

“That the handball World Cup took place during our visit to Qarar was a very plea sant coincidence. We seized the opportunity to watch some of the Danish matches, but unfortunately our cheering them on did not made them win over Spain, who scored the winner in the last seconds of the match. Denmark ended in fifth place while France won gold”, concludes Kurt Skov.
