Adaptability is vital for the survival of companies. The demands on us as suppliers across many different lines of business are heavily increasing. ”With the establishment of a dedicated Business Development & Change Team, IT moves closer to the clients. The team designs industry and client-specific solutions supporting our clients’ businesses and creating real value. A constant dialogue with clients and colleagues as well as keeping a close watch on market trends ensure that Blue Water’s digital solutions are always abreast of things”, says Blue Water’s IT Director Peter Matthiesen. The team does not only focus on the implementation at the client’s house, but also makes sure that the client is fully

implemented in Blue Water, which is just as important. A good technical implementation comes to nothing if the change and integration are not implemented with our competent employees. “Our IT platform COMPASS provides a large number of standard components, which are compatible and capable of configuration to match the individual client perfectly. Time is vital when implementing a new client. With the flexibility of the COMPASS platform, and our dedicated, digital development team of ten colleagues, we are able to swiftly implement new clients in our business”, concludes Peter Matthiesen.

WHITE ROCK

Big blade haulage in Australia This year, the White Rock Wind Farm in New South Wales, Australia is being constructed following years of planning, studies and approvals. Blue Water is responsible for the full transport of 70 wind turbines. This is the longest haulage of wind components for Blue Water in Australia yet. The wind turbines were shipped from China to the port of Newcastle. Next stage in the project was a challenging 550-kilometre haulage transport to the project site via the motorway, city areas and rough landscape. An 800-metre stretch on one of the roads leading to the site had even been resurfaced to make sure that the road could carry the heavy loads. The blades for the turbines are the longest blades measuring 59.5 metres - that have ever arrived in Australia. “White Rock Wind Farm is an exciting project No. 116

to be part of. We face some challenges as the wind farm is located in Glenn Innes where severe weather conditions can cause delays to the project. Despite the challenges, the transportation to the location is proceeding well, which we hope will continue in the remaining phase of the project, says Alice Sun Nicolaisen, Project Manager in Blue Water Australia. Presently, five shipments are stored in Newcastle Port. The sixth shipment is currently on the water with ETA in Newcastle at the end of February. There are still two vessels with 20 sets pending from China. Next challenge for the project will be the transportation of 80 tower sections which are being locally manufactured in Portland. These transports include a total of approx. 1700 kilometres from the factory to site.

2016 was a record year 2016 was a record year for Blue Water Cruise Agency with 59 port calls in Denmark, 78 in Greenland and four in Norway. Increased focus on this activity has produced results, and our unique set-up and joint sales with Marine Logistics open up new opportunities for servicing the clients – offering a more all-inclusive service.

Prosperity in the industry “Prosperity in the cruise industry in general results in an increase in port calls from existing cruise lines and an increased interest in new destinations. One day in July, we had three cruise ships in the port of Copenhagen making turnaround simultaneously – approx. 6,500 passengers each way”, says Hans Chen Braas, Manager Cruise Agency, Blue Water Copenhagen. For the first time, we have had calls from cruise ships in Norway where we handled the beautiful sailing ship “Sea Cloud II” four times - in Kristiansand, Stavanger and Bergen. Norwegian Cruise Line Holding appointed us agents in Greenland where we

also provided services to Viking Cruises’ first port calls. In Copenhagen we have become agents for Disney Cruise Line. Copenhagen is Disney’s home port for cruises in the Baltic Sea. Also, two Fjord Line vessels called at Copenhagen at New Year. This was the first time that the port of Copenhagen played host port to New Year cruises.

Expected increase in 2017 “In 2017, we expect an increase in the number of port calls, larger ships and more passengers. “Norwegian Getaway” will be the biggest ship, making 18 turnarounds in Copenhagen in 2017, with more than 4,500 passengers on board in the peak season. Blue Water is represented in all the Nordic and North Atlantic countries and makes a determined effort to be able to service cruise lines in the entire region – with special focus on Iceland and Norway. Cruises in Greenland is increasingly popular and we are very active in this development”, says Hans Chen Braas.

PORT SERVICES & AGENCY

New contract with Bladt

Positive spirit in Brest The seed potato season finally started again, however, with a few weeks’ delay compared to previous years. In spite of this delay, the spirit is positive at Blue Water Brest. “The season appears to be more difficult this year in that for example Algeria has introduced a new import license procedure in an attempt to reduce imports. Also, several countries suffer from devaluated currencies, so in terms of volumes it may not be the best of seasons - but let's see as

we get by. We hope for a good season for our clients and ourselves” says Marianne Girardin from Blue Water's chartering department in Brest. In Brest, Blue Water loaded the reefer vessel "Silver Horn", which set the course to Tunisia. The loading was carried out for our good long-time client Germicopa & Gopex. In Esbjerg, the "Samskip Glacier” was loaded for Algeria for Danespo. Both vessels are chartered from Norwegian shipowner Silversea.

The next five years, all Bladt Industries' internal heavy load transports at Lindo will be handled by Blue Water. The five-year framework agreement will strengthen Blue Water’s presence at Lindo. “We will handle the internal transports for Bladt by SPMT and flatbed truck. The cargo consists of different types of components weighing up to several hundred tons. We enjoy a good and close cooperation with Bladt which will be strengthened even further through this contract”, says Kim Thygesen, who is responsible for Blue Water’s activities at Lindo. Our previous cooperation with Bladt Industries includes port handling, stevedoring and agency in connection with the Wikinger Offshore Wind Farm and a wide range of services for the construction of bridge project “Stibroen” in Odense.

Stevedoring & Agency to wind project

Blue Water has signed the Stevedore and Agency Contract for the Offshore Wind project “Rampion” which will be loaded out of the port of Esbjerg in 2017. The “Rampion” project, located in the Channel south of England, consists of 116 x V112 MHI Vestas Offshore wind turbines. Upon production start in 2018, the wind farm will provide electricity to 347,000 homes. No. 116

Blue Water has signed the port agency contract with Rampion Offshore Wind Limited. To enable loading and installation of the 116 turbines at the site, 13 kilometres off the Sussex coast, two installation vessels, M/V “MPI Discovery” and M/V “MPI Adventure”, will be deployed. “We are very pleased to be awarded this project and will handle the operations

in the best way, say Søren Messmann, General Manager Port Services and Klaus Odby Jensen, Port Agency Operations Manager at Blue Water. The 400MW Rampion project is being built by E.ON, UK Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge.

REEFER LOGISTICS

Expanding reefer traffics to Southern Europe Poultry people's forum During IPPE (International Poultry and Processing Expo), which took place in Atlanta, USA, Blue Water was represented by people from Miami and Denmark. IPPE is an annual event and meeting platform for business people of the American and international poultry industry. Belkis Ataman and Lasse Petersen from Blue Water Miami participated in the exposition together with Frank Madsen from Blue Water Esbjerg. In addition to meeting many of our good contacts, our colleagues also participated in a golf event together with both clients and suppliers. Blue Water Miami handles almost 20,000 teu reefer containers on an annual basis from the US to worldwide destinations.

FL: Frank Scholten/Aviko, Hans Poiesz/ Blue Water, Rene van Belle/Blue Water and Frank Ronkes/Aviko.

Visit from Aviko, Holland In late January, we had the pleasure of welcoming Frank Scholten and Frank Ronkes from our good client, Aviko in Holland, at Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg. Aviko manufactures potato products for worldwide export in reefer containers. “In recent years, our cooperation has developed into a close partnership for the improvement of Aviko’s supply chain and includes on-line access via Blue Water’s client-driven Compass booking system. “We had an interesting talk about potentialities and the development on the freight market in general. We look forward to a continuous good cooperation where we will together develop new solutions”, says General Manager Hans Poiesz from Blue Water Rotterdam who joined the meeting in Esbjerg. In general, the activities in Holland are very busy. Blue Water Rotterdam broke all records last year by shipping more than 27,000 teu reefer containers to worldwide destinations.

6

For the past 25 years, Blue Water has transported fresh and frozen fish on a daily basis from Danish seaports to the markets in Germany, Benelux and France. In addition, large volumes of fresh and frozen fish are transported from the North Atlantic region and Scandinavia throughout Europe. The fish are mainly transported via Padborg, near the Danish-German border, for reloading at Blue Water’s reefer terminal and further distribution on the respective south-bound traffics. Over the years, the volumes have increased steadily, causing space problems at the reefer terminal in Padborg. Therefore, Blue Water has seized the opportunity to take over the other half of the terminal in Padborg from their long-time partner Bring Frigo. This means that Blue Water has now 3,300 m2 reefer terminal at their disposal. "We use the terminal in Padborg to consolidate our traffics and in this way ensure that our clients will benefit from the most effective transport solutions to the European markets. With the expanded terminal facilities, we can strengthen both our service and the volumes that we can

handle", says Carsten Steffensen, Blue Water's Director for Reefer Logistics. So far, Blue Water has operated few selected traffics to the markets in Southern Europe - Italy, Spain and Portugal - to satisfy the needs of the existing clients. As from 1 December, however, we have increased our traffics to these countries. "We have built great competences and experience within reefer road transport, and it is only natural that we continue developing and expanding within this area as we can provide our clients with very attractive solutions ensuring that the fresh fish and other food products will reach the consumers as fast as possible”, says Carsten Steffensen.

WIND LOGISTICS

The world’s longest blades Three of the world’s longest wind turbine blades have been transported by Blue Water. The blades which were manufactured by LM Wind Power, are 88.4 metres long and weighs approximately 34 tons each. It is the first time ever that blades of this length have been transported by sea. Blue Water chartered the open deck carrier M/V “Meri” from Meriaura Ltd. for the voyage between Esbjerg and Bremerhaven and performed the loading

operation in Esbjerg. The discharging operation was performed by our newly formed JV BluewaterBREB, and was a complex twin-lift operation with two floating cranes operating as one unit to place the blades on a specific quay in shallow water. The entire operation was executed under time pressure and in stormy weather within the customer’s deadline.

Agreement extended For a number of years, Blue Water has had a framework agreement with Vestas covering terminal, stevedoring and agency services in the port of Esbjerg. This agreement has now been extended to 2018. “We are very proud to continue our cooperation with Vestas. The extension indicates that both parties are pleased with the cooperation. We see this as a sign that our strong operational set-up contributes positively to the different projects for which we are loading wind turbines”, says Søren Messmann, General Manager for Blue Water’s Port Services in Esbjerg.

OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Contract with Tellepsen Industrial Loading “Orion” Blue Water in Esbjerg has completed a job on behalf of our trusted client, Saipem UK Ltd.: loading of 20 pieces/1056 tons of miscellaneous rigging. The largest items, being two enormous spreader bars, each measuring 3 x 5.5 x 5.5 metres and weighing approx. 185 tons, were loaded on board the MPV “BBC Orion” in Rotterdam. After loading, the vessel headed towards the second loading port, Tanjung Langsa in Malaysia, to load the remaining 500 tons of equipment. “Blue Water’s part of the job included chartering of vessel, transport, loading in Holland and Malaysia respectively and discharge of the equipment upon arrival at the final destination, DSME Shipyard, Geoje-daero in Korea”, says Nikolaj B. Sørensen, who was in charge of the project at Blue Water Esbjerg.

Blue Water Houston has successfully negotiated a new transport contract with Tellepsen Industrial – a Texas-based company providing plant upgrades, piping systems, structural steel constructions and much more for several industries. “It is an important contract for us because it will enable Blue Water to participate in more US project work than has been available since our start in Houston, Texas. Our market share in the Americas is steadily increasing and relationships with reputable engineering companies, like Tellepsen, will only strengthen our position in the States and abroad”, says

Brent Patterson, Sr Vice President, Global Projects in Blue Water. The transport contract will enable Blue Water to provide transportation, crane, rigging and laydown services to any of Tellepsen's projects throughout the USA. Tellepsen has several projects throughout Texas, Indiana and Illinois, either ongoing or ready to begin construction. Our cooperation with Tellepsen will only strengthen our position in the States and abroad

Loading and towing Blue Water France has completed two projects with an inverval of just a few days. First they loaded two luxury yachts in Les Sables d’Olonnes for one of the world’s oldest shipbuilding companies. The lashing and securing of the valuable yachts were done with extreme care to protect them during transport. This is the first loading that Blue Water France has completed in Les Sables d’Olonnes. It was quite a challenge because the port is so small, making precision in the loading vital. A specialised marine surveyor from the yachting industry teamed up with Blue Water to make sure that every step in the project was done properly. The yachts were shipped to Rotterdam and continued to Düsseldorf for an exhibition. The client was pleased with our professional service. Only three days later, Blue Water France commenced the towing of a pontoon from Saint Nazaire to Algeria. The pontoon was successfully delivered and will be used for a port maintenance project.

New bridge in place With the new promenade and bicycle bridge “Landgangen”, Esbjerg Municipality aims at creating a better link between the city and port area. Blue Water has transported 13 bridge sections for the bridge for Valmont SM, steel contractor and manufacturer of the bridge sections. “By means of its large network, many contacts and not least skilled employees, Blue Water was able to offer an efficient tailor-made solution to the project. As the price was also competitive, we chose Blue Water as our partner. The project was solved successfully and we will consider

Blue Water as a possible partner for future projects”, says Jan Mortensen, Project Manager at Valmont SM. The largest bridge section measured 23 x 6.5 x 1.5 metres, and precision in the delivery was vital for the project. “Valmont SM had cranes at their disposal to help lift the sections in place. Therefore, timely delivery was vital to maintain a steady workflow in the erection of the bridge sections", says Allan Leiberg Brodersen, who is responsible for Sales and Development in Blue Water's Project department. OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Keeping our promises Blue Water’s offices in Houston, Shanghai and Singapore have successfully completed loading of most of the finished goods from Qingdao, China to Skikda, Algeria for Cameron's Groupemont Berkine Project. The project has lasted approx. one year and included transport of cargo from global origins to the fabricator in China where fabrication of several large skids and vessels took place. Blue Water Houston was the control tower and the hard work of the offices involved contributed greatly to Cameron's overall success. Our Field Services group, Air Freight desks and Chartering teams were an integral part of the project and provided the very best in permoance and service - keeping our promises throughout the entire project.

Steel frames for installation vessel Blue Water's terminal crew has transported two advanced steel structures, weighing 99 and 65.5 tons, to the north side of Esbjerg port where the installation vessel "Seajack Scylla" was being mobilised for an offshore project. The large steel constructions were manufactured by Semco Maritime. "The project was handled without any problems, and all the challenges in the safety area were analysed and solved prior to transportation. Blue Water’s vast experience with transporting large items in the port area is the reason why we chose them. They lived up to our expectations

No. 116

in full", says Morten Kjeldmann, Senior Project Manager in Semco's Rig division. Blue Water was also pleased with the delivery of the steel structures. "The solution we offered Semco was good both economically and in terms of safety. Our terminal crew know precisely how to transport large items. Also in places where the lack of space can be challenging", says Allan Leiberg Brodersen, who is responsible for Sales and Development in Blue Water's Project department.

From Asia to Angola Blue Water Malaysia has completed the transportation of two units of subsea trees and accessories from Port Klang, Malaysia to Angola. The equipment is used for offshore oil and gas projects. The project team in Malaysia worked hand in hand with Blue Water’s offices in Singapore and Angola to plan and perform this transport. The operation was executed smoothly and Aker Solutions' project team was impressed with the arrangements. “Everything, from the very hard work of the lessons learned sessions to the final packing on the ship, has impressed each and everyone of us. From the minute we started loading the equipment on board until final packing was a work of art. Very seldom do I see a load-out executed without any hiccups at all. Well done guys”, says Phill Lumsden, Senior Project Manager at Aker Solutions”. Blue Water Portugal & Angola supported the discharge operations in Sonils Oilfield Services Center, Luanda. We are all very proud of our continued relationship with Aker Solutions and look forward to the next challenge.

GENERAL CARGO

In January, Jeanette Kirk Hasselstrøm, Global Route Development Manager in Blue Water participated in Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, India’s most important business conference with 33,000 participants from +100 countries. “India is, with an export growth of 7.6 percent and an expected future growth of 10 percent, one of the world’s fastest

growing markets. The Danish export promotion during the conference was a foretaste of the many possibilities in India for Danish trade and industry. There is real big money in export to India”, says Jeanette K. Hasselstrøm. Blue Water participated together with 21 other Danish companies, the Danish Embassy in Delhi, the Danish Minister

of Energy, Supply and Climate, Danish Industry and Danish Maritime. “Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is an excellent platform to show the flag, establish contacts and learn more about India and its trade and industry. We hope that we in future will reap the benefits of our participation through increase in activities and clients”, says Jeanette K.

Export Seminar with focus on Oceania In January, Blue Water Taulov hosted a seminar on export to Oceania. The seminar was arranged by the Danish Export Council and Business Development Centre Southern Denmark and provided knowledge on cultural differences, challenges and not least the possibilities that this huge market offers. The seminar programme included presentations, by the organisers and by Michael T. Hansen from the Danish Commercial Consulate in Sydney, on the trends and development in Australia. Blue Water also made a contribution on their success following the establishment of the company’s office in Sydney in 2013. 10

Also face-to-face meetings between the individual participating companies and Michael T. Hansen were arranged. After the seminar, we have received positive response from among others Margrethe J. Holdt, Area Manager, GCC Export Management: “I participated in the seminar together with a colleague. It was the first time that I participated in this kind of event so I did not have high expectations. I have been involved in export for almost 20 years, but never to Oceania. In Gumlink CC, we started discussing the Australian market in November so the timing was perfect for us.

It was very interesting to learn about Australian business culture and we had plenty of opportunity to ask questions. The face-to-face meeting with Michael T. Hansen was in particular a positive experience for me. Thank you very much for a fantastic event". The face-to-face meeting was in particular a positive experience for me. Hasselstrøm. From India, Prime Minister Nerandra Modi, other politicians, officials and business people and also our Indian partner, Flyjac, attended the event. The Indian Ministry of Shipping is planning to develop the country’s 200 existing ports – in particular on capacity/infrastructure. As a massive growth is expected on the

container activity, it is very important that the port systems will be able to live up to the demands. The conference is a unique forum for sharing information and experience, establishing contacts, cooperation agreements and partnerships.

Mobile clinic to refugee camp in Iraq Blue Water’s Aid & Relief team has arranged transport of a mobile clinic from Antwerp, Belgium via Mersin in Turkey to Erbil in Iraq. The transport was arranged on the request of Hospitainer in Holland, manufacturer of mobile clinics and mobile delivery rooms built into trucks. “This was our fourth mobile clinic into Iraq. Blue Water’s Aid & Relief team arranged the pick-up, delivery and the required documents perfectly”, says Hospitainer’s Logistics Manager, Simon Postma. The clinic arrived in time for the refugees fleeing from the affected Mosul area.

“Nothing is left to chance when carrying out these transports. We check all possible obstacles en-route before bringing in important equipment to camps in Iraq”, says Johnny Mortensen, Head of Aid & Relief Logistics at Blue Water. Hospitainer also train UN and NGO staff in the use of the mobile clinics called “Maternitainer trucks” - for the benefit of fleeing refugees. Pregnant women and victims of sexual violation clearly need a safe and private place where they can give birth and be treated.

Blue Water Sydney has cooperated with several other Blue Water offices in shipping approx. 100 containers with building materials and feed mill equipment from Europe to the Australian pork production company GD Pork. GD Pork is building 21 new stables to their current breeder farm. The deliveries took place in the rural area of Western Australia, roughly three hours from Fremantle Seaport. “Together with local, reliable partners, Blue Water was involved in tailgate challenges - such as external and internal wash, inspections and unpacking due to Australian regulations - at the border checkpoint, customs clearance and special deliveries in order to meet consignee’s requirements and deadlines” says Camilla Sørensen, who was responsible for the project at Blue Water’s Sydney office.

Envoirementally friendly cargo Blue Water Manchester has delivered two Biomass Energy Boilers to a farm near Liverpool for our good customer Manco Energy UK. The transport went as planned. “In 2016, we handled approx. 60 loads, mainly mega trailers, for Manco Energy to various clients in England. Collections were from Danish company Linka in the little town of Lem”, says Steve Townsend, Manager Sales Executive at Blue Water Manchester. Manco Energy is a green energy supply and management company formed to meet the growing demands in the market for environmentally friendly energy. Manco Energy supplies both fuel and highly efficient boilers to convert the fuel to heat.

New sorting facility in Taulov New sorting facility to ensure correct and fast sorting at Blue Water's terminal in Taulov, Denmark The primary purpose of the system is to help and reduce the workload for our terminal staff and ensure 100 percent correct sorting. The system also provides automatic relabelling of cartons, when necessary, and one sorting line can for instance lead directly into an outbound trailer. Naturally, all functions are performed with 100 percent guarantee for safety and quality.

Together with Blue Water Manchester, our Miami office started importing G57 racing cars from Leeds, England to Miami, USA for our new client Ginetta. Thomas Jeppesen from Blue Water Miami met with Adolpho Rossi, the President of Ginetta, to organise the first shipments. At the end of 2016 the first car was delivered. The car was modified and prepared for the Fara Miami 500 race in Homestead, Florida. Fara Miami 500 is a road race that brings together local and international driving teams to the Homestead Speedway.

“The system can handle up to 1,800 parcels per hour and allows sorting at ten different levels. We can now empty three trailer per hour, whereas the previous amount was maximum one trailer per hour. In the future, the system will also be used for other sorting jobs such as sea freight containers etc.”, says Claus Gutfeld, Head of Terminals & Distribution at Blue Water Taulov.

World Championship This year’s World Handball Championship for men was followed closely by Blue Water Brest and their reefer clients. From the opening match in Paris and up to the semifinal – also in Paris – the staff of Blue Water Brest invited a number of clients to all of the French matches. Each time the result was positive, from a French point of view, and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was a great pleasure for everyone who

had the chance to participate. France deservedly won the World Championship, whereas the Oplympic champions from Denmark were sent home. The world handball championship is held every second year, and in 2019, it is due to take place in both Denmark and Germany. Therefore, we expect that a lot of clients and colleagues will seize the opportunity to follow this coming championship.

Football championship In January, ten teams competed to become Danish Champions in indoor football. One of these teams was sponsored by Blue Water Herning and has represented Blue Water at several indoor tournaments in all of Denmark. “It is the second time that we play together as “Blue Water Shipping”, but this year, our achievements surpassed all expectations. We were the outsiders in almost all the games of the Danish Championship, but still it was an exciting experience. Our girlfriends, family and friends attended the event to support us. It was a great day although we did not win”, says Anders Kornum Thomassen – one of the players from the team. Most of the players from the team are studying and have a spare time job at Blue Water Herning in connection with various exhibitions

Gold to Blue Water’s ladies Blue Water Aalborg was well-represented at the prestigious Rechto Cup – an indoor football tournament for freight forwarding companies in Denmark. We participated with five men’s teams and one ladies’ team. Unfortunately, none of the men’s teams qualified for the final round. However, the ladies played them-

selves straight to the final in convincing style. It was an intense final game where players from both teams were sent off. Finally, Blue Water won a 2-1 victory against Ultra Bulk after overtime/golden goal. The tournament was held during a weekend with a big celebration in Aalborg on Saturday night. Marts 2017

Grand opening

The students are challenged in the freight forwarding game.

Learning the job Line Bach Jensen and Connie Roed Jakobsen, trainees from Blue Water Herning, visited the schools Herningsholm and IBC (International Business College) Fredericia to introduce the students to the life of a freight forwarder. Among other things, the students were introduced to a freight forwarding game where all the participants transport cargo around the world. During the game, the students had to negotiate prices and conditions

with their clients as well as making sure to choose the correct means of transportation for that particular type of cargo considering the delivery time. Line and Connie played the roles as client and subcontractor. “It was interesting to see how the students handled their assignments and learned what a freight forwarder's job is about”, says Line Bach Jensen.

Comet of the year Anders Antonsen was suddenly the talk of the town. He surprised everyone at the Danish National Badminton Championships by winning the final against his experienced opponent Jan Ø. Jørgensen who has previously participated in the Olympics and has a top five world ranking. 19-yearold Anders was also awarded the Comet of the Year prize in Danish badminton. Blue Water Aarhus sponsors the great talent who visited our colleagues at the Aarhus office the day after his success in the Danish Championships to show his trophy. The picture shows Anders together with young talents from Esbjerg Badminton. No. 116

Blue Water Miami’s new customer Ovoo Brazilian luxury design, art and interior emporium - had their grand opening in the art district of Miami and we were kindly invited to the event which was a big success. The high-quality furniture is a very big seller in Brazil and now Ovoo are expanding to the US. Many of the pieces are signed by the artist/manufacturer of the specific items. We are looking forward to providing people in Miami with such elegant furniture.

Charity event in Aktau When celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Blue Water’s staff in Aktau had arranged a charity event in the boarding house for the elderly and disabled citizens in Aktau. There were gifts for everybody, a festive breakfast was organised and children from a nearby school participated in the event. The children entertained with singing, dancing folk dances and reciting poems. The elderly danced with pleasure with the children and played chess with them. Watching the enthusiasm and all the happy faces was a pleasure. Later, the tenants of the boarding house expressed their gratitude towards Blue Water and for the school children’s visit wishing the children good luck with their studies and Blue Water a prosperous business.

Trainees contribute to strengthening the organisation Young people are strongly interested in a career in Blue Water. 700 applied for the 31 vacant trainee jobs to be filled in Denmark in 2017. “We attract many qualified candidates and the selection is very important for Blue Water’s future. The candidates feel the importance from the beginning. They are not just evaluated on their professional competencies. Their dedication, will and personality also come into play”, says Christian Wolff, HR Business Partner in Blue Water.

The candidates On the basis of 700 applications, 70 candidates were selected to participate in Blue Water’s Trainee Event. The event includes individual interviews, workshops as well as a further presentation of Blue Water. ”We challenge the candidates and confront them with different dilemmas. This is done through practical challenges which will give us an insight into their personality, their values and not least their cooperation skills. This in combination with individual interviews gives us the opportunity to evaluate the candidates in full. This process is necessary for us to be able to choose the right candidates for the individual trainee jobs”, says Christian Wolff.

king closely with the individual General Managers to choose the candidates to be invited to the event. In the entire process, Blue Water strives to give the applicants a pleasant experience. ”It is important for us to act professionally in our handling of the candidates. We have received feedback from participants thanking us and telling us that they enjoyed the event, they were challenged and they learned a lot. Subsequently, we have received praise even from some of the candidates who were not offered a job. In Blue Water, we take our trainees seriously from day one and we therefore like to give the candidates a carefully prepared and planned experience”, says Christian Wolff.

Prepared for the future With the purpose of strengthening the organisation and preparing ourselves for the future, Blue Water established their own educational programme in International Transport and Logistics in 2015 in cooperation with Business Academy Southwest. ”The competition for getting the talented young ones to sign a contract is tough. New and extended coverage As of 1 January, Blue Water changed insurance partner as we entered into an agreement with a globally recognised insurance company This means that we now offer an extended coverage at the same competitive price as previously.

The importance of a cargo insurance Like any other carrier, Blue Water’s operation is governed by local rules or international rules and regulations stipulating that we, in case of damages to or loss of goods during transport, are usually not liable for the total value of the goods. “Even though we, as carriers, naturally do everything that lies in our power to ensure that the client’s goods will arrive safely and in good condition, unforeseen incidents may unfortunately prevent this. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the client insures his goods during transport. In Blue Water, we focus on informing the client about the importance of taking out a cargo insurance. Through this new cooperation, we are pleased that we are able to offer our clients to take out a cargo insurance, on their behalf, with one of the most extensive coverages in the market”, says Tine Kaaber who is globally responsible for Insurance and Claims at Blue Water.

Full coverage “Taking out a cargo insurance through Blue Water ensures the client total coverage of the invoice value and freight charges in case of damage to or loss of goods during transport. The client avoids carrier’s limitation of liability and in addition, his costs will be covered in full in case of general average. Professional claims handling is also part of the package”, says Tine Kaaber. Tine Kaaber is originally a qualified freight forwarding agent, but has for the past 18 years worked as an insurance & claims consultant in the insurance and transport industry. Furthermore, Tine has studied Transport Law at the Copenhagen University. Tine Kaaber has been employed at Blue Water since 2014 and performs today the function of Global Head of Insurance & Claims.

Through this new cooperation, we can take out cargo insurance with one of the most extensive coverages in the market

Recertification in HQ In January, four auditors from Bureau Veritas visited Blue Water’s headquarters to perform recertification audit within Health & Safety (OHSAS 18001), Environment (ISO 14001) and Quality (ISO 9001). “The efforts of the past three years have resulted in an impressive audit result. Only two NCRs and a few observations and suggestions for improvement were raised. Upon closing of the NCRs, certification will take place” says Susanne Veie Svenningsen, who is global Head of HSSE & Q at Blue Water. Furthermore, the auditors concluded: “Blue Water is imbued with team spirit, dynamism and great commitment from both the Management as well as the employees”. Coming certifications In late February, Blue Water Oslo will start preparations for their certification process, and we expect that certification will take place at the end of the year. Also, Blue Water Singapore has for the past year prepared themselves for certification which is expected to take place in June.

01.04.07–01.04.2017

Eliane Plouzané-Hénault/Blue Water Brest will celebrate her 25th anniversary on 9.6. Eliane originally started doing documentation in the Agency department, mainly for the old Lauritzen Reefers Line. About five years later, Eliane moved on to the newly established Container department, which she is still part of – now as responsible for booking and operation for Reefer Export to West Africa, the Mediterranean area and North America. Eliane is married to Raoul and the couple has two children: Emilie, 19 years old, who is studying at the university, and Julien, 15 years old and still at elementary school. In her free time, Eliane is practicing gymnastics on a weekly basis, but her favourite hobby is dancing. Singing is another very popular interest of hers and she is therefore a very good entertainer at parties.

20th Zahir Rzayev

Karin Busk Schnegelsberg Buhl/Blue Water Billund will celebrate her 10th anniversary on 1.4. Karin was originally employed to take care of invoicing in the Courier department – a job she still performs to perfection. Karin is an old school lady, very meticulous and careful, double-checking everything. If on a single occasion, an error may slip in, it will trouble her for weeks, despite the fact that she has a note attached to her desk: The one who is not making mistakes is usually not doing anything at all”. Karin is the mother of the office, incredibly caring and helpful towards her collegues, whom she calls “my second family”. Karin’s free time is dedicated to the love of her life, Aksel, and her family – in particular her grandchild, Mejse, who is six months old.

Zahir Rzayev/Blue Water Baku will celebrate his 20th anniversary on 10.6. From the start, Zahir has proved himself to be a hard-working and trustworthy colleague. Today, Zahir is in charge of the Railway section in our Road department and parallel with this, he is also responsible for Domestic Traffic. Britta shows great commitment in her job – and not least in her superuser role. Many of her colleagues benefit from her commitment, especially when Voucher Scan causes problems. Britta enjoys her spare time together with her husband, Erik, their children and grandchildren. For relaxation and just to enjoy life, Britta and Erik go camping –

Mirjam started in our canteen in our previous office building and has contributed to the development that we enjoy every day in our canteen. During the first few years, Mirjam was often sent out shopping for the week’s bargain, however this has changed. We do not think this was the reason why she sold her car. We believe it was because she would rather spend her money on traveling to exciting holiday destinations with her friends. Mirjam also enjoys reading a good book, and who knows, some day we might see her in some knitting competition on TV. Mirjam is also the mother of three grown-up children and the happy grandmother of two grandchildren. She is and has always been a loyal employee who appreciates the fine surroundings that our canteen provides.

Among other duties he looks after our export to Finland, but he is very versatile and knowledgeable making him a very valuable member of the team. Sonny and Nikki will always be remembered for causing Blue Water Manchester’s staff to miss the company’s 40th jubilee, and therefore the team sadly missed out on performing the Blue Water song. On that particular weekend, Sonny and Nikki were married in the beautiful village of Fenny Bentley in the Peak District National Park. The colleagues managed to make a full weekend of the occasion, and very nice it was too. The weekend can also be remembered as the time when Sonny’s former boss finally forgave Blue Water (after a few beers) for stealing his best staff member.

I learn from each project that I am part of and improve my skills

Britt Langerhuus Clausen Blue Water, Esbjerg

Britt is motivated by challenges Britt Langerhuus Clausen is being thrown into one challenge after another since her first day in Blue Water’s Wind Logistics team The wind industry is constantly changing. The turbines and components become bigger and bigger and consequently, the demands made on hauliers, stevedores, vessels and transport companies become more stringent. Challenges have, however, always been a motivation for Britt Langerhuus Clausen. “My first job in Blue Water was to prepare a stowage plan for loading wind turbines on to a vessel, including calculations for loading, discharging, trucking etc. I was challenged from the very start, I still am and it suits me well”, says Britt Langerhuus Clausen, Project Manager Wind Logistics.

Getting a kick from good results Careful planning is a major factor in all wind projects. But very often contingencies may arise and when this happens, it is important to act fast and change one’s mindset. Here, Britt is on her own turf. “Handling a challenge under pressure, with a good result for our client, gives 24

me a kick. This is also the reason why I love to get dirty fingernails, attending loading and discharging in ports all over the world. I see a lot of practical solutions which I can integrate into the planning of future projects”.

The project was completed as planned thanks to an excellent cooperation between the client, haulier, port and the installation team. Three wind turbines were installed in only one week

Improving my skills Excellent cooperation in Finland Through nine years of employment in Blue Water, Britt has been involved in a lot of projects. However, one particular project stands out from the rest. “Last summer, I was responsible for a project in Finland. All components were to be delivered directly to the installation crane on site and everything had to be coordinated to the letter. We faced challenges en route in the form of low-hanging cables and entangled trees as well as a slowly progressing loading operation. But the job had to be solved immediately – even thought we were in the middle of the Finnish highland among mosquitoes and moose at 10 o’clock in the evening. It was really a sensational experience”.

Calculating quotations is also a major part of the job. Britt is in daily contact with the subcontractors making sure that welders, hauliers, stevedores and vessels are in place whenever we need them. “A lot of things have to be in place before a project can start. In the process, a lot of meetings are held with subcontractors and the client so that we together can handle whatever challenges there may be. The way I work means that I learn new things from each project that I am part of. I focus on soaking up new knowledge. This contributes to improving my qualifications”, says Britt, who has prepared hundreds of stowage plans since she made her first plan years ago.
