Søren will secure progress for General Cargo Søren Nielsen - the new Director for Blue Water’s biggest division, General Cargo - has been with the company for 25 years Early in the summer, Blue Water introduced its new Director for the General Cargo division which handles transport of industrial cargo and retail goods by air, sea, road and rail. The division represents half of Blue Water’s total activities. The choice fell on Søren Nielsen, who comes from a position as General Manager for Blue Water’s offices in Odense and Lindø. ”In connection with the recruitment, we have focused our attention one finding the absolutely best candidate within this line of business, as we wish to maintain and develop our strong position in Denmark and strengthen our global General Cargo set-up. We have experienced a great interest for this very central position in Blue Water and seen an immensely strong field of external as well as internal candidates”, says Kim Hedegaard Sørensen, Blue Water’s Managing Director. Kim Hedegaard Sørensen states the reason for the choice of an internal candidate: ”Søren Nielsen is simply the best man for the job as he brings along wide sea, air and road transport experience and expertise. Søren has 25 years of management and development experience in Blue Water and he has successfully built up our business in Funen. As a parallel to

this development, he has contributed to the development across the organisation“.

Present in the local area 55-year-old Søren Nielsen is pleased to become part of the group management in a company that is characterised by highly motivated employees with focus on flexible solutions. ”Our General Cargo division forms a strong basis for our entire all-round business. One of the reasons for our success is our Best in Town strategy: that we want to be present in the local area close to our clients and at the same time offer them the best transport solutions. With our many local offices, we swim against the current of the business, but our close dialogue with the clients is a success”, explains Søren Nielsen. Blue Water has great ambitions regarding the ongoing development of the Ge neral Cargo division. The primary activities of the division are concentrated around import and export between Scandinavia and the rest of the world and the main part of Blue Water’s 67 global offices are more or less involved in the General Cargo activities. ”Our own offices are working closely together and the internal knowledge

Søren Nielsen, who is 55 years old, celebrated his silver jubilee with Blue Water last year. Søren completed his apprenticeship as a shipping assistant at the the firm of shipbrokers Svane & Gjørding in Kolding in 1979. Then followed two years at Lemvig Müller & Munch in Copenhagen before he was employed as Head of Department in the freight forwarding company InterService A/S in Odense until the start-up of Blue Water Odense in 1988. Parallel with his job as general Manager in Blue Water Odense, Søren has performed assignments across the organisation and been responsible for the establishment and operation of the Lindø office.

Reorganisation In connection with Søren Nielsen’s new position as Director for General Cargo, the following organisational changes have been made to maintain and develop our business. Michael Poder Hansen has been appointed General Manager Road for General Cargo. Michael has a good focus on development and with his strong professional competences within optimisation and innovation in regards to the road traffics, it is a natural decision that he fills the new position. Michael began his career in Blue Water in 2005. Blue Waters management. Fl: Allan Junge, Dan Nissen, Søren Nielsen, Kim Hedegaard Sørensen and Carsten Steffensen

sharing, combined with a strong global partner network, enable us to handle many different transport assignments for the clients who value our local and global presence”, says Søren Nielsen.

Nordic countries - our home market In particular, the development of the activities in Norway, Sweden and Finland is given high priority as the company wishes to strengthen the total global set-up through major offensive. ”We wish the make the Nordic countries our home market and will therefore distribute our concept in this region and at the same time develop the inter-Nordic traffics. This is a long-term strategy which takes years to succeed. We have just recently had strategy meeting with our Danish and Nordic business development managers as a close cooperation and joint efforts are the key to developing and strengthening our position. At the same time, we focus on further developing the cooperation with or partners in the rest of the world”, says Søren Nielsen. Part of the foundation for further success is investments in renewal and upgrading of our terminal facilities in No. 106

Denmark where a considerable increase in the terminal areas will take place over the next years. This will also contribute to optimizing the distribution to the whole of Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, where our aim is to offer the clients groupage and parcel services on a daily basis including full track & trace, delivery documentation and detailed freight statistics. ”We keep a strong focus on small/ medium-sized companies, but are also able to give added value to large companies with extensive logistics needs and considerable volumes. Our strength is our ability to give our clients a high-level service and great flexibility in relation to the demand”, says Søren Nielsen.

Excellent position in the USA In recent years, Blue Water has seen a great development in sea and airfreight in the USA, among other places, where a major expansion of the General Cargo organisation is in progress. ”We have for many years experienced great success with a number of business segments in the USA - e.g. Reefer, Oil & Gas-related activities, Marine Logistics and Government Logistics. The US market has welcomed our service, values and way of doing business with open arms and we have obtained excellent positions in these segments. After several years of partnering in the USA, we have now decided to establish our own General Cargo set-up with special focus on Sea and Airfreight to/ from Scandinavia and this way contribute to strengthening the development in the Nordic countries”, says Søren Nielsen.

Frank Madsen has been appointed Head of Development for Sea & Airfreight and will remain overall responsible for our global Reefer Logistics. Frank has a good knowledge of the business and the opportunities that lie within developing the sea & air activities in combination with reefer transports. Frank is well-known in the organisation after more than 20 years in Blue Water.

Kim Thue Andersen has been appointed Blue Water’s new Sales Manager for General Cargo in Denmark. Kim will together with the management for General Cargo set the direction for our overall sales efforts for General Cargo, so that we can maintain and streng then our position as the most attractive partner within transport and freight forwarding in Denmark. Kim joined Blue Water in 2004.

Claus Andersen has been appointed Director in Odense, where he takes over from Søren Nielsen. Claus has held leading positions in the Road department w h ere h e ha s b e en re sp o n sib le fo r developing the activities. With more than 20 years of em ployment with Blue Water, Claus represents the experience needed to maintain and develop Blue Water’s strong position in Funen.

REEFER LOGISTICS

Fish for the largest aquarium in Northern Europe In Hirtshals, Blue Water has delivered two sunfish to Nordsøen Oceanarium - the largest aquarium in Northern Europe. The fish were caught in the Atlantic Ocean and transported to Copenhagen Airport. Here, a crew from the aquarium made sure that the fish were in good condition after the long flight. One of Blue Water’s reefer trailers handled the last steps of the transport from the airport. “Transport of live animals is a demanding task because of the specifications regarding transport times, temperatures and other conditions to make sure that

the animals are not harmed. Blue Water has over time been involved in several transports of this type all around the globe”, says Bent Rasmussen from Blue Water Hirtshals. The fish were closely monitored during the entire transport which included several breaks to control the water temperature and quality. When the sunfish arrived at Hirtshals, they were put into the large aquarium which contains 4.5 billion litres of salt water and many other species of fish from the North Sea. In spite of being a rather unknown species, the sunfish at-

tracts many visitors in the aquarium. The fish can grow to be more than 3.5 metres long and weigh more than 2 ton.

Barbecue workshop SB Fish becomes

part of Blue Water

Blue Water Rotterdam invited a few employees from our good client Aviko to participate in a Weber barbecue workshop. 16 participants from both companies were split in two groups and guided by the Dutch barbecue champion who helped them making deli4

cious dishes including smoked salmon, duck, rib roast and apple muffins. It was an inte resting, instructive and most of all entertaning and tasty experience which both Aviko and Blue Water Rotterdam still talk about.

As of 1 September, Blue Water took over SB Fish, which is owned and managed by Svend Bonde. Throughout 15 years, Svend Bonde has built a strong business within transport and sorting of fish products in Padborg. In connection with the acquisition, SB Fish will transfer its activities and staff into Blue Water Shipping’s office and terminal at Istedvej in Padborg. With this acquisition, Blue Water will further strengthen its position on the fish market both locally in Padborg and in Europe. “Svend Bondes’ business philosophy is similar to Blue

Water’s – to be close to the client s and offer f lexible solutions of high quality as well as competent ser vice – and the activities will continue with respect for these pr inc iples”, s ay s C ar sten Steffensen, Director in Blue Water. September 2014

MARINE LOGISTICS

A decade of cooperation For more than 10 years, Wikeström and Krogius, which is now a part of Blue Water, has cooperated with ABB Marine in Finland - a global leader in power and automation technologies. We are responsible for transporting all parts and tools to the job site on time, when a vessel goes into dry dock and for the transport of ABB’s workshops made up of 20’ containers. The containers are transported from one project to another on various locations all around the world. When the “Allure of the Seas” docked in Freeport, Bahamas for a bearing change, Blue Water transported all tools from San Francisco to Miami by truck and from

Handling supplies to more than 30 cruise ships The European cruise season has started and at the Blue Water office in one of the busiest ports in the world, Rotterdam, the cruise specialists are very busy supporting the large cruise lines. “We deliver supplies to some of the large cruise lines. Each week, we deliver

to an average of 30 ships in some of the largest cruise ports in Europe. We coordinate and handle discharging of reefer containers from USA and meanwhile we are in charge of loading general cargo containers on the ships. In addition, we handle order-picking of supplies from different suppliers”, says Head of Blue Water’s Marine Logistics, Lisette Trab Munk. Blue Water provides marine logistics for several destinations across the world. All services are provided in cooperation with Italian Priano Marchelli through the Cruise & Marine Logistic Network, which the two companies have founded together. The network’s services to the cruise industry include warehouse solutions, pick & pack as well as air, sea and road transport.

there to Bahamas by sea. All parts came from Turku in Finland, and while some of the parts were transported by air, the bearing itself was transported by sea. The bearing weighs 23.5 ton and measures 345 x 274 x 310 cm. “When we handle projects like this, the schedules are very tight because delays are huge costs for a cruise vessel. Therefore we often have a ‘babysitter’ who follows the shipments all the way to the destination”, says Henrik Mahlberg, Managing Director of Wikeström & Krogius. After completing this project, the tools, weighing 6 tons, will be transported by air to Europe where a new project is waiting.

Kurt Skov and Lisette Trab Munk visited Priano Marchelli in Genoa, Italy in July. Priano Marchelli and Blue Water run and own the Cruise & Marine Logistic Network together. In addition to internal meetings concerning the future strategy and action plan, there was also time to visit clients.

Client visit and guided tour of a cruise ship Fernando Garcia/Logistics Manager and Jesús Liste/Assistant Logistics Manager from Pullmantur Cruises in Madrid, Spain, visited Blue Water’s headquarters in Es bjerg in June. Our guests enjoyed two great and constructive days with Amadeu Outeiro from Blue Water Barcelona and Lisette Trab Munk, who is head of Blue No. 106

Water’s Marine Logistics. One week later, one of Pullmantur’s cruise ships arrived in the port of Esbjerg where Blue Water’s founder and chairman Kurt Skov and Lisette Trab Munk were invited on an interesting tour on board the ship “Horizon”. Blue Water provides spare parts and supplies for Pullmantur’s ships.

Large offshore projects When the construction of the three large offshore wind farms in the Nort Sea, Borkum Riffgrund, Westermost Rough and Butendiek, commences, Blue Water will provide a range of port agency services for all three projects. “In cooperation with the client, we will plan and handle the terminal and stevedore assignments for the three projects. At the same time, we will monitor all operations and ensure that there are sufficient capacity and know-how. In total, we will handle 29 shipments from the port of Esbjerg, which includes 193 wind turbines. The projects will overlap each other and that is why our flexibility plays an important role “, says Søren Messmann, Operational Manager from Blue Water’s Port Service department.

Challenging wind project in the Philippines Blue Water has been responsible for transport and storage of wind components to a large wind turbine project in the province of Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. The challenging assembly of the turbines high up in the hills required a special transport solution. “The delicate turbine components were barged to a temporary jetty, which was constructed on a beach close to the site, and then trucked through the rough landscape to their final destination at the Caparispisan Windfarm”, says Bjarke Riber Nielsen, Business Development Manager at Blue Water. All components were transported over land and sea within a short time frame, and due to the local weather conditions, where tropical storms often appear, every step of the operation was meet with speed, precision and efficiency

“It is a very big logistical challenge with a lot of heavy equipment, which we are trying to bring to a very remote location. You are trying to do something which have not been done before. We were really looking for someone that we could feel comfortable with and had considered all of the different aspects of the job. When I look back at what our expectations were, Blue Water has done better than that”, says Brian Caffyn, Chairman in UPC Renewables, which is the developer behind the wind farm. Blue Water’s involvement included about 250 lifts of nacelles, hubs, towers and blades in addition to airfreight of electrical components and transport plus skidding of transformers.

Global sales meeting Our global sales team for the wind industry gathered in Esbjerg for a two-day seminar to exchange views on innovation and creativity on the wind market. In addition, the seminar included an interesting presentation by the consultancy Make Consulting, which focuses specifically on the general wind turbine market. Two fantastic days which stressed the importance of sharing our knowledge and competences in the right way to develop in the direction we want. Together we create solutions, and it is important that the synergies from one region are fully exploited in the others. Wind energy is a market in growth. Outside Europe, we see a large demand especially in the Far East and South America. In Europe, offshore wind projects are in progress and we have high hopes for this activity. Representatives from Blue Water’s offices in Brazil, Singapore, China, France, UK, USA and Denmark attended the seminar.

Butendiek project We recently had the pleasure of being part of the large Butendiek project – 80 offshore wind turbines/foundations shipped out of Esbjerg. Our good client, Ballast Nedam, is in charge of the entire project from transport of the foundations from the factory to the installation is completed on the site. “A very interesting project and fantastic to see all the different ships involved – from receipt of the cargo, which was

transported on purpose-built barges and coasters, to delivery of the components to the impressive installation vessels such as MV “Jumbo Javelin” and not least Ballast Nedam’s own MV “Svanen”, a 110-metre high barge crane with a lifting capacity of 8000 ton”, says Brian Sørensen, Business Development Manager at Blue Water Esbjerg, who looks forward to continuing the good cooperation.

More value to the clients 40-year-old Peter Ehrhorn is newly responsible for Blue Water’s Port Services, Agency and Wind Logistics. He has comprehensive experience from the transport industry from working 12 years with Blue Water in both Esbjerg, Baku and Dubai. Among other projects, Peter has been involved in Blue Water’s first demanding transports of drilling rigs to the Caspian Sea through the Russian river system. After a period as director for the helicopter operator CHC in Esbjerg and as director for Thorco Shipping, Peter returned to Blue Water in 2013. “We must continue being proactive regarding transport solutions, markets and systems to add value to our clients. As well as we are developing ourselves, we must focus on increasing our earnings. We shall utilise our staff and equipment in the best way possible. This is something we also wish to do with our clients

so both parties will achieve optimisations”, says Peter Ehrhorn. We have a strong set-up on wind – especially in Esbjerg and Singapore – but we also want to take an active share in the ‘difficult’ wind markets. Particularly within the field of onshore wind turbines, we will pursue the markets and clients closely. We already have a set-up within many interesting areas via our involvement in oil, gas and industrial projects and we must use the competences we have already built to further develop our activities. For five years, Niels Tolstrup has been responsible for the activities. As he has expressed a wish for working closer to his family on Sealand, he is now holding a newly created position as head of development with focus on the activities on Lolland Falster – and not least the Fehmarn project.

Keeping up traditions 13-15 May, Blue Water participated in the annual Break-bulk event in Antwerp as well as in the traditional, great evening dinner parties together with several of our business partners. Both evenings ended outside the well-known “Den Engel” pub with both serious and more relaxed business talks. The event is a fine opportunity to meet with our clients of the project industry as well as many of our partners from the shipping companies worldwide including BBC Chartering, Spliethoff, Thorco Shipping, Intermarine, Hansa Heavylift, Wagenborg, Nordana, Rickmers, J. Poulsen Shipping, ABB, SAL, Varamar, Mammoet, Roll Group and Sarens.

Agent for Jack-up vessel The Blue Water Manchester office has acted as agents for the DBB Jack-up Vessel “WIND” since the beginning of May. “WIND” has been working on wind projects off the west coast of the UK operating from the port of Barrow and also the port of Liverpool. The projects have now come to an end and the vessel has left Liverpool to move on to the next project.

New port cooperation Blue Water will take over the daily operation of the private Bandholm Port on the island of Lolland, Denmark “We believe that the combination of Blue Water Shipping and Knuthenborg/Bandholm Port is perfect. Our strong, local and regional port will gain a new level through Blue Water’s network of global operators. Together, we will provide security for supplies for the operators who wish to establish themselves in connection with the future construction works in the area. This will create workplaces in the local area”, says Christoffer Knuth, Managing Director of Knuthenborg Gods - the owner of Bandholm Port. “Blue Water has wide experience with port-related operations and as shipbrokers and stevedores, we are active in several Danish ports. Therefore, we feel well-equipped to operate Bandholm Port and provide services to both existing and

future clients and we look forward to the cooperation with the owner of the port and the clients”, says Kurt Skov. Throughout the years, Bandholm Port has been an important local port for fodder, but the parties also see large opportunities for the port to become an important player in connection with the large future construction projects in the region and as a base port for maintenance work in connection with a future offshore wind farm in the waters between Sealand and Lolland-Falster. “In cooperation with the owner of the port, we plan to offer services for the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link on Lolland, where both parties’ experience can be combined into a strong product”, says Kurt Skov.

Seven port calls in one day Hosting Wind delegation In July, Marianne Girardin and Mogens Nielsen from Blue Water France had the pleasure of hosting a French delegation of 25 companies, led by EDF EN, WPD, and DONG Energy, at Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg. The purpose of the visit was to show the clients how Blue Water handles large and complex wind logistics in the port and to share useful knowledge. Esbjerg is one of the largest wind ports in the world with good facilities for loadout and preparation of the large wind turbine components. Blue Water, who has been involved in on and offshore wind projects worldwide since the nineties, operates as port agents, forwarders, stevedores and terminal operators.

8

Our agency departments in Aalborg and Frederikshavn were busy when seven ships called at the two ports on the same day. This meant that there was a lot of different cargo, which had to be loaded/ discharged and different tasks had to be completed. Fly ash was loaded in Frederikshavn while transport wagons and

turbine blades were handled in Aalborg. The two large installation vessels “Sea Installer” and “Sea Power” also visited Frederikshavn where the MV “Vitin” had its engine repaired. The shipping lines represented in the two ports included A2SEA, Wilson Eurocarriers and Hagland.

New cars in Greenland Modern and up-to-date equipment is a prerequisite for solving the clients needs in the best way possible. For that reason, Blue Water Greenland has upgraded its fleet of cars. The two new cars will be

used for transport assignments in Ilulissat and Nuuk where two of the three Blue Water offices in Greenland are located. The third office located in Sisimiut, has also renewed its fleet of cars recently.

The world’s largest seafood trade event, Seafood Processing Global (formerly European Seafood Exposition/Seafood Proces sing Europe) was held in Brussels in May. The exhibition attracted many visitors and again this year, Blue Water was represented with a stand at the Danish collective stand arranged by the Danish Export Association. Blue Water representatives from Hirtshals, Aalborg, Esbjerg, Copenhagen, Torshavn, Seydisfjordur, Reykjavik and Brest attented the exhibition. This year, we transported around 25 trailers with stand material, machines and fish samples.

Largest construction project ever on the Faroe Islands Ro/Ro transports to the North Atlantic

We have agreed to transport elements for the construction of Marknagil Education Center, which to date is the largest construction project on the Faroe Islands. The transport will be carried out for HSHansen a/s who altogether will handle the delivery of 7,000 sqm of elements for the facade. “Blue Water suggested a solution which in the best way possible takes our requirements to the transport into account. There is much focus on safety both in the matter of delivery and of the cargo and this is a top priority for us. We are confident that the project will be solved in a satisfying manner and we look forward No. 106

to our cooperation with Blue Water”, says Brian Lundsgaard, Project Manager at HSHansen a/s. The items will be transported from September by means of a Ro/Ro service (roll on/roll off), which means that the cargo can be rolled on board and off the ship. Marknagil Education Center will be constructed in Torshavn and will house the Faroe Islands’ Secondary School, Torshavn’s Technical College and the Business College of the Faroe Islands. Around 1,200 students and 300 teachers will benefit from the 19,200 sqm bulding.

As Denmark’s most versatile transport company, Blue Water is the only provider of Ro/Ro transportation to the North Atlantic countries. Ro/Ro is short for roll on – roll off, where cargo are rolled directly from the quayside on board the vessel. “We have transported five concrete beams for the construction of a church hall in Tors havn on the Faroe Islands. As the beams are each 29 metres long, the optimal freight solution is Ro/Ro transport because lifting the beams is not necessary, which minimizes the risk of damaging the cargo. We have also transported an oven for the incineration plant in Torshavn and a transformer for a new wind farm on the Faroe Islands” says Bent Rasmussen, who is responsible for Blue Water Hirtshals, which handles all the company’s transports to the Faroe Islands. With a strong set-up in the North Atlantic region, Blue Water also offers tailor-made Ro/Ro solutions to Iceland.

Gypsum crusher in the hands of the experts Blue Water Odense has loaded a 40´ open top container, with a 12-ton gypsum crusher destined for the USA, on behalf of Acta Recycling APS. “We contacted Blue Water because they have wide experience with many diffe rent types of cargo. We only want to leave valuable cargo like this in the hands of the experts, and everything went smoothly”, says Hans Bundgaard, who owns Acta Recycling APS with his brother Ingvar Bundgaard Jensen. The construction industry in the USA produces and consumes a lot of gypsum and as a result of the intensified demands from the authorities in regards to recycling the materials, Acta Recycling APS has seen an increase in the enquiries as well. The company also produces machines for recycling of wood, domestic waste and PET bottles.

A strong cooperation creates value It is important to cooperate with a versatile transport company if you have import and export to/from the whole world. The statement comes from Claus Andersen, who is Managing Director and owner of Jens Linde A/S in Vejle, Denmark. The company is involved in import and export of machines and tools. ”Not many companies in the market can handle our transport assignments worldwide, so we book the majority of our transports with Blue Water. We receive a fast response to our inquiries whether it is sea, air or road transport and it is extremely important that we know the freight costs. When for instance, we have to transport a machine from China to Indonesia, we benefit greatly from the

large network Blue Water represents”, says Claus Andersen. Jens Linde A/S is located in Vejle and started back in the seventies importing spare parts for the auto industry. Today, the company operates in four major areas: tools, surface cleaning, ventilation and interior decoration of cars for industrial purposes. Part of the pleasure of the cooperation is the honest dialogue. “It is important that we face the challenges and solve the problems together. We are very pleased with our strong cooperation with a partner who keep their word and focus on what they can do for us. That gives value to both parties”, says Claus Andersen.

New possibilities in South America Positive feedback from the clients In May, a number of clients attended a seminar at Blue Water Gothenburg where the expert Peter Hellman, from Hellman Business Consulting, gave a presentation on Incoterms 2010 (standard rules for international sales/purchase agreements) as well as delivery, insurance and payment terms. The purpose of the seminar was to give our clients more knowledge of the subject and make their workday easier, and we appreciate the positive feedback we have received afterwards.

Export companies are currently very interested in the development on the Russian, African and South American markets. In South America, Blue Water has made an agreement with one of the leading logistics companies in Chile, Ulog Logistics, with offices in nine countries in the region – 16 in Chile alone. For a long time, Blue Water has focused on South America where we have two offices on the largest market Brazil. This continent is growing, especially the Pacific region with progress in Chile, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. New free trade agreements with EU makes the region accessible and more interesting for Nordic

companies, also on the import side. The agreement with Uloq Logistics streng thens our set-up in South America where we offer excellent logistics solutions.

IT handles big challenge for Solar A new supplier management system, developed by Blue Water, gives Solar a complete overview of the company’s suppliers and deliveries. This way Solar is guaranteed that the inventory of the central store is always correct, always updated and always easy to see for all parties. The system also provides each of Solar’s suppliers with an overview of their deliveries. “We have for a long time wanted a solution like the one Blue Water has created for us. Managing our flow of goods in an easy way has been a challenging job for us as we have close to 150 suppliers. So far, we have been taking care of order management including manual entry of all orders ourselves, but each individual supplier is now taking care of this part of the process. It is easy and convenient for both parties. We have a complete overview and the suppliers have an excellent planning tool for their deliveries”, says

Birgitte Riis, Transport Manager at Solar Danmark A/S. Solar is a wholesaler specialised in plumbing, electricity and ventilation and is one of the leading suppliers within this field in Denmark. The company’s head office and central store are situated in Vejen and the company has subsidiaries in Sweden, Germany, Holland, Poland, Austria and Belgium. The new system for Solar is built on Blue Water’s web booking platform which is used by many clients. Blue Water has a big IT development department which is responsible for integrating Blue Water’s IT systems with those of the clients. “As we had less than two weeks to solve the challenge, we had to think quickly and creatively. We succeeded in supplying a product to Solar’s satisfaction which provides great value for them and their suppliers”, concludes Mark Ewert Christensen, Blue Water IT Development.

New Manager in Finland On 1 September, Erkki Valtonen took over as Blue Water’s Country Manager in Finland. He takes over the position from Henrik Mahlberg who has been in charge of this area since 2013. Henrik Mahlberg will from now on be responsible for Business Development in the Nordic Countries and act as Key Account Manager for several clients in Finland. 50-year-old Erkki Valtonen has more than 20 years of experience within transport, logistics and sales and he has managerial experience from several large corporations. To start with, Erkki Valtonen will work closely with Henrik Mahlberg to ensure a smooth transition phase. “The Nordic Countries are a focus area for Blue Water and the employment of a capacity like Erkki, who represents decades of experience, supports our aim to provide our clients with the best team to solve all types of challenging transport projects with high-quality solutions and top-class personal service. Also, it is a step towards a further strengthening of our organisation and position in Finland No. 106

After the summer holiday, we have planned a return visit to Austria.

Express ferry solution At short notice, we presented a complete logistics solution, for a transport project to the ferry operator Scandlines, covering transport of a large amount of equipment from a shipyard in Stralsund, Germany to Holeby in Denmark. As the shipyard, and builder of two new Scandlines ferries, went bankrupt, the equipment had to be stored until construction of the ferries can be finished at another yard.

where the market is experiencing growth. Further it adds to our strong cooperation in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway where we are represented with a total of 24 offices”, says Poul Aarre, who is responsible for Blue Water’s General Cargo activities in Scandinavia.

On 1 September, Blue Water acquired Lovén Spedition, which is owned and managed by 65-year-old Willy Lovén, who over the last 20 years has built a strong, local freight forwarding business in Fre d er ik s h av n . Willy Lovén wishes to secure the future of the company – also after he retires. Blue Water and Lovén are a perfect match based on the same business philosophy to be close to the clients and offer them flexible solutions of high quality as well as competent service. The company continues in the name of Lovén Blue Water with Willy Lovén forming part of the day-to-day operation and management. At the office in Frederikshavn, he will be joined by Lasse R. OIL, GAS & PROJECTS

Notes Logistics contract with Ramboll Blue Water has signed a logistics contract including transport, warehousing and other logistics-related services for Ramboll Oil & Gas. The company is a highly regarded provider of offshore and onshore engineering consultancy services for the oil and gas industry, and has offices in Denmark, Norway, Qatar, U.A.E (Abu Dhabi), India, the US (Houston) and Russia. Both Ramboll Oil & Gas and Blue Water are known for innovation, for high quality and reliability and for having high-quality in-house competences. The contract strengthens Blue Water’s position on the global transport and logistics market and involves Blue Water Esbjerg and Stavanger.

Offshore crane upgrade We have shipped an A frame for a crane upgrade for A2SEA’s offshore installation vessel “SEA INSTALLER”. The frame was loaded on a barge in China and shifted to the heavy-lift vessel “Da Tai”, for which Blue Water acted as agents upon arrival in Es bjerg. All the stevedoring assignments were also handled by Blue Water. The large frame, weighs 144 ton and is 30 metres long and was discharged onto two multi-axled trai lers at the quayside. It was quite a challenge due to the dimensions of the A frame, but thanks to precise calculations and dedicated efforts from all stevedores, the cargo was landed safely. After discharging the frame, it was trucked to the storage area.

DONG/Shell refinery In early June, we started up project transports to the DONG/Shell refinery in Fre dericia, Denmark. Three long distillation columns were collected in Vale de Cambra, Portugal and trucked to the port of Aveiro for loading on board the coaster “Flinter Nordic Diana.” On 9 June, the coaster shaped course for Rotterdam to load a storage tank, also for the refinery in Fredericia. On 16 June, all items were discharged in Fredericia under supervision of a Blue Water representative. From 29 June to 1 July, the items were trucked from the port of Fredericfia to the site address under convoy.

International project cooperation 1-7 June, we loaded 60 units/approx. 1000 ton/6000 m3 on board MV “BBC Germany” in the port of Mekjarvik, Norway for Saipem Ltd. (UK). The project involved handling and shipment of their largest subsea plough system used for laying out cables/pipes into the seabed. We took over the cargo from under hook in Mekjarvik and final destination was Saipem’s yard in Guaruja, Brazil. The main units were transshipped directly on to a barge at the Triunfo Terminal in Rio and the remaining equipment was discharged at the quayside and brought to a temporary storage area. Once customs clearance had taken place, the barge shaped course for Guaruja along with a number of special trucks. The interesting project was handled in close cooperation between our teams in Esbjerg (Chartering + Project), Stavanger (Supercargo) and Rio (Project). The enormous “Saipem 7000” crane assisting with the loading in Mekjarvik, Norway.

Both pontoons are safely floated onto MV “Sun Shine” – the de-ballast operation can start.

In-house expertise attracts clients Our specialists within heavy transportation solutions have towed two massive oil rig pontoons from the Philippines to Singapore. The pontoons weigh around 4,500 metric ton each, are 108 metres long, 16 metres wide and 9.5 metres high. We arranged the wet towage to the anchorage and chartered the semisubmersible MV “Sun Shine” to dry-tow

the pontoons to Singapore. “This was our third consecutive towage job for the client, which proves that we are doing a good job. Our in-house expertise is a great asset”, says Project Manager Lars Skov Christensen. Blue Water’s experts include Transport Engineers, Naval Architects, Project Forwarders and Chartering Experts. Notes Exxon Service Agreement

Valves to the Gulf of Mexico The Blue Water Houston office was, at very short notice, awarded the transport of two large valves (BOP and LMRP) that weighed over 500 ton in total. From the fabricator in Houston, the items were trucked using a purpose-built trailer to the port. The trucking had to be performed at night and was closely followed by Kerry Simmons from the Houston office. Once the valves arrived to the port, they were moved to an upright position and loaded on board the waiting barge. The barge had been pre-fitted with grillage before arrival to the port and ready for loading.

After loading, the barge was immediately towed offshore. Upon arrival to the drill vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, the transfer from the barge could start. The actual transfer was done using a floating crane and again, our Field Supervisor Kerry Simmons was present. Blue Water has in the past performed similar operations, but always to either jack-up rigs or semisubmersible rigs. All employees worked tirelessly to ensure that all aspects of the project were completed without damage, delay and in fact under our budget to the client.

Yard stay for large rigs

Blue Water has signed a multicountr y Master Service Agreement (MSA) with the largest oil company in the world Exxon Mobil. The agreement was signed in Houston during the summer, says Brent Patterson/ Vice President, Blue Water Houston. We are looking forward to servicing this large client worldwide and especially to showing them the high level of service and quality provided by Blue Water in connection with Oil & Gas projects. In particular our in-house resources and competences, like naval architects, engineers and stevedores, were among the main factors in signing the MSA. We are looking forward to a long-time cooperation with Exxon Mobil.

New client in Houston We have recently secured two very interesting projects from Cameron, Houston. “Cameron is a major player in the oil & gas industry and Blue Water is very proud of being awarded two projects from this new client. Following the award, Brent Patterson from our Houston office also attended a feasibility study for a possible project for Cameron in Mexico. We look forward to long-term cooperations with Cameron”, says Thomas Bek, who is globally responsible for Blue Water’s Oil & Gas activities. The two projects will include international and domestic trucking, airfreight and ocean freight.

Natural gas in Australia

We are involved in a yard stay in Palermo, Italy for an impressive, ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig. “For many years, we have been involved in construction of jack up rigs and semisubmersible rigs at yards around the world. The same rigs are undergoing periodical yard stays for repair, upgrade etc. and we have specialised in logistics support for these demanding projects. In addition, we provide IT systems, created by our in-house IT department, to control No. 106

the flow of shipments”, says Thomas Bek, globally responsible for Blue Water’s Oil & Gas activities. All transports are performed in close cooperation with Blue Water offices worldwide including the offices in Houston and Denmark. Diana Kaag, from the Esbjerg office, has been stationed at the yard in Palermo since the arrival of the rig. “It is hard work”, says Diana, who was also involved in a similar project in the US.

Blue Water Sydney has completed two large transports in Australia in connection with the construction of a Liquified Natural Gas pipeline in Queensland. The entrepreneur on the project, Consolidated Contractors Company, contacted Blue Water because they needed a swift solution to transport 32 units of construction equipment, 3,400 m3 break bulk and 15 different types of containers. All items were shipped in only one week. On an earlier project, Blue Water transported six cranes with a total weight of 700 ton, 500 m 3 break bulk and 30 x 40’ high cube open top containers in one shipment to Dammam in Saudi Arabia for the same client. The Blue Water offices in Melbourne and Dubai were also involved in the project transports.

Johnny Mortensen/Blue Water.

Involved in relief project in the Philippines Blue Water’s Aid & Relief team participates in the reconstruction of Tacloban after the typhoon “Yolanda” destroyed most of the eastern part of the Philippines. In early June, one of Blue Water’s clients, a Danish relief supplier, assigned us the project of delivering a large shipment of iron roofing sheets from a factory in China – 75 containers donated by an American NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) – as well as securing the flow of various permissions, documents etc. In this connection, Blue Water´s Ma nager for Aid & Relief operations, Johnny Mortensen, went to China to meet the agents, local trucking companies, customs brokers and the shipping lines. Next destination was the Philippines in order to

meet the parties involved there including the consignee. When Johnny landed in Tacloban Airport, he saw with his own eyes the de vastation that the typhoon had brought to the population of Leyte and to many other areas in the region. Lots of families were sleeping under tarpaulins and living in poor shelters close to the shore. Many children have lost their parents and many parents have lost their children. Subsequently, the cargo arrived from China into Cebu port, the second largest city in the Philippines. After it had been customs cleared, the cargo was shipped to the island of Leyte and then transported by truck up to the NGO’s warehouse inside Tacloban for further distribution to the many villages affected by the typhoon.

In July, Blue Water Ipswich moved to new office facilities close to the major ports of Felixstowe, Ipswich and Harwich and the major road network linking the office to London and the Midlands. The new location gives a good scope for expansion and we are confident that our clients will benefit from the location regarding their logistics challenges to and from the UK.

New office in Jordan In order to support and further develop our activities within Government and Defense Logistics (GDL), we have appointed Rami AL-Qutub, to start up a Blue Water Office in Amman, Jordan. Rami has a long experience from the transport business. He has also been handling the Freight Forwarding Contracts for the Jordan Armed Forces for more than 25 years.

Strengthening our position in the US

Sharing our ideas

Fl: Søren Stougaard/Blue Water Esbjerg, Michel Cigrang/CEO CldN Cargo/Cobelfret, Kurt Skov/Blue Water and Sjaak van der Linden/Managing Director CLdN Cargo/Cobelfret.

In August, representatives from shipowner CLdN Cargo/Cobelfret visited Blue Water‘s headquarters in Esbjerg for talks about terminal, stevedoring, sales operations No. 106

and door–door transport. Our cooperation goes back many years, and it is always interesting to share views and ideas with them.

For a long time, Blue Water has kept a strong focus on the US market and wished to further strengthen our position, especially within sea and airfreight in the General Cargo division. To achieve this, we have opened an office in Chicago, covering our General Cargo activity. James Blaszko is General Manager for this office, and he has extensive experience with transport and freight forwarding on the American market as well as he has held managerial roles in several Chicago-based freight forwarding companies. “Chicago is an important centre for General Cargo in the US market given its geographical gateway to and from the Midwest. I look forward to contributing to the strong network of Blue Water offices which supply high-quality solutions for clients worldwide”, says James Blaszko.

Jubilees Silver Anette Tholstrup Corell 15.10.89–15.10.2014

Anette Tholstrup Corell/Blue Water Esbjerg will be celebrating her silver jubilee with Blue Water on 15.10. Anette started as a very young girl in the reception at Blue Water’s head office. With her high level of service and outgoing personality, Anette soon became a much appreciated colleague and a popular voice on the telephone. Anette was also the technical expert when the switchboard or other technical instruments broke down. After a number of years in the reception, Anette moved on to new challenges as secretary in our sales department, where she still controls the daily routines and the sales representatives – with a firm hand. She is also the superuser and instructor on our client database system. At home, Anette is the only girl in a group of three almost full-grown men: Lars, her husband for 15 years and the reason why she moved to this part of the country, and their two sons, Frederik and Peter, aged 20 and 16 respectively. In her free time, Anette likes to go to concerts and Thomas Helmig (Danish artist) is still her favourite.

periods, only to stop completely and go into hibernation at other times. Thomas lives together with Sofie and this autumn, a new family member, Thomas junior, will see the light of day. Thomas is known for making cheerful remarks with a twinkle in his eye, and he is difficult to defeat in a battle of words. He is extremely helpful and good-natured, but now and then he does “attack” his colleague Claus Bo when he provokes Thomas for too long.

On 1.11, it will be Karen Momme’s/Blue Water Padborg turn to celebrate her 20th anniversary. Karen joined our terminal group almost at the very start of its establishment and has through all the years formed part of the team as responsible for the handling and sorting of fish at our terminal. In her job, Karen has the daily contact to our fresh fish clients. She collects information about the daily incoming quantities so that she can keep our terminal staff busy later in the day. When she is not at work, Karen takes good care of her husband, Johannes, and their two sons Thomas, 11 years old, and Christian, 8 years old. The whole family shares a great interest: tilting at the ring. You will no doubt be able to find Karen at all tilter competitions taking place in the South of Jutland.

10th Abulfat Aleskerov

14.09.04–14.09.2014

On 14.9, Abulfat Aleskerov/Blue Water Baku will celebrate his 10th anniversary. Abulfat originally started as a driver, then passed the BP certification and was assigned to work at the client base (Saipem). As a Volvo truck driver here, he is highly valued for his work performance, attitude and commitment. When Abulfat is not at work, he pursues his great interest for football as well as spending time with his family; his wife and two children.

Svend Callesen/Blue Water Padborg will be celebrating his 20th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.9. Since the opening of our terminal on 1.9.1994, Svend has been, and still is, an important member of our warehouse team. Late in the year 2007, Svend was appointed terminal foreman. He has since then, in his own quiet and pleasant way, managed to control the gang as well as keeping a sharp eye on the 3-4000 incoming and outgoing boxes of fish on a daily basis. Svend spends a great deal of his free 20

01.09.04–01.09.2014

Thomas Øksenhøj Sørensen/Blue Water Odense will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water on 1.9. Thomas started his career as trainee under Per Offersen in sea freight where he has been hanging out ever since. In reality, Thomas is “an old man” in a young man’s body. He is an avid hunter and altogether a typical outdoor type. Furthermore, he loves to cook – preferably from his own bag of ducks, pheasants, fish etc. Thomas frequently takes up running, and manages to run long distances for

Frimar Sigurdsson/Blue Water Esbjerg started as transport and warehouse trai nee at our old groupage warehouse on 1.10.2004. At that time, he was a bit of a yob – fancy hairstyle and fast cars. We cannot even put a number on the Opel Mantas he has disassembled and assembled again. However, Frimar gradually developed into a more calm and competent trainee. Whether this was because he got married, we do not know. Having completed his traineeship, Frimar was employed on a permanent basis as assistant at our terminal where he has been involved in various activities. September 2014

HUMAN RESOURCES

Jubilees Today, he is mainly working at our Ro/Ro Seacargo outdoor area, moving aluminium rolls arriving on mafi trailers from Norway. Frimar’s iPad mini is his main interest as he carries it with him everywhere. Frimar is very popular among his colleagues as he is always ready to help – a real sport.

company parties and other events. In general, Claus is good at partying - he is very sociable and always in a good mood - and he has his own champagne sword and loves sushi. Claus is the father of three girls, Laura, aged 9, and the twins Nanna & Caroline, aged 7. His girlfriend, Karin, has two children.

10th Jan Brøgger

01.10.04–01.10.2014

On 1.10.2004, Valeska Klausen/Blue Water Esbjerg joined our finance department as responsible for the daily accounting for our offices in Singapore, Brazil and Kazakhstan. Countries with a different accounting, structure and culture. After eight years in this department, Valeska became part of accounts receivable, where she, in addition to sending out dunning letters, efficiently controls the company’s collections and cases with lawyers. Valeska lives with her boyfriend Mark and her son Esben in Tjæreborg and is actively involved in the local community, i.a. the local running club. Valeska is a good and helpful colleague, always full of fun, who has participated in every single company party in Esbjerg. Despite the line of business she is in, transport is not Valeska’s strong point. She once parked her car and forgot to apply the hand brake, which later on resulted in the car’s rather careless position outside the bay. Next morning we found out that the car was Valeska’s.

10th Morten Olsen

01.10.04–01.10.2014

On 1.10, Morten Olsen’s 10th jubilee will be celebrated at our Odense office where he forms part of the terminal team. Before joining Blue Water, Morten gathered experience from various jobs as a driver in the courier business, as a seaman, as a cabinet maker and as a developer. Morten is married, lives in the town of No. 106

Lala Ismailova/Blue Water Baku started in our accounts department on 12.10.2004. Lala is still an important part in the daily routines of this department. In her free time, Lala likes to read a good book and she also enjoys swimming. Another interest is travelling as she loves visiting new places. Lala is very devoted to her family; her father, sister and two little nephews. Last year, she spent almost a whole day choosing Christmas presents for the kids. Their happiness was beyond bounds – same as their curiosity. In half an hour, they took the presents to pieces to examine the inside of the wonderful toys.

10th Claus Simony Sørensen 01.11.04–01.11.2014

Claus Simony Sørensen/Blue Water Es bjerg joined Blue Water’s marketing department on 1.11.2004. Since day one, Claus has been an asset for the department which he for a couple of years was in charge of. Claus is very innovative and always helpful. He handles any task assigned to him, always searching for the best solution, which he occasionally sticks to regardless to the opinion of others. Claus is popular among his colleagues, who cannot help noticing that he is the talkative type - in any case, he contri butes strongly to avoiding long intervals of silence. Claus is an active member of our staff club and a strong contributor to a lot of

22.11.04–22.11.2014

On 22.11.2004 Jan Brøgger/Blue Water Esbjerg joined Blue Water’s West European department as freight forwarder on our Polish traffic. After a few years, Jan was transferred to our O&E group, which handles everything from courier parcels for the local offshore clients to out-of-gauge project transports for local as well as global clients and partners. When Jan is not absorbed in oil or busy talking to clients, he spends time with his wife and their three children, where he, in homely and familiar surroundings, lives out his passion for red wine. However, bottled grapes are not Jan’s only interest. His childhood sport, ice hockey, as well as football and golf are other interests, and Jan is an active participant in various Blue Water football tournaments and training sessions. He is also a frequent visitor on the golf course even though his performance does not always live up to (his own) expectations (which can be challenging for his “red-haired” temper). Jan likes to seek new challenges and his next goal is to run a half marathon. We keep our fingers crossed that he will succeed.

10th Brian Illum Hansen 08.12.04–08.12.2014

On 8.12, Brian Illum Hansen/Blue Water Odense will be celebrating his 10th anniversary as driver/terminal assistant with 21

Jubilees Blue Water. Ten years back, Brian joined us from a similar job and his previous career also includes the plumbing business. Brian is a football enthusiast – supporting Liverpool. He even plays football himself, but at a more humble level due to a knee injury a couple of years ago. In recent years, Brian has also taken up golfing. Brian has just moved into a house, in Agerup close to Odense, together with his girlfriend, his son and stepdaughter.

Supporting East Greenland The Blue Water Foundation has granted full financial support to a playground in the village of Sermiligaaq in East Greenland. The conditions for children in the small Greenland villages are scanty, but in Sermiligaaq, the children can now play and have fun at the playground, which has become a reality through the great work of psychologist Kirsten Berngaard - and money from the Blue Water Foundation.

13.12.04–13.12.2014

On 13.12.2004, Søren Madsen/Blue Water Aarhus became part of our sea freight team (import/gateway) where he still hangs out, now as business development manager. Through all the years, Søren has concentrated on development and optimisation of work processes. He is the driving force behind the department, he never relaxes from his job, and is always on the lookout for new clients. Even when Søren goes shopping, he is checking labels for countries of origin. Søren is married to Thea, and he is also very active on the home front - his wife is expecting child number five. Søren spends his sparse free time with his family. Sport is not his cup of tea. However, he claims that he runs ten kilometres once a year. On the other hand, Søren likes football (outside the field) and loves to tease his colleagues when AGF (Aarhus Football Club) has not played well. Søren runs full speed keeping several balls in the air. He is always in a good mood and ready to deliver good stories.

Early retirement Bjarne Brøgger, Manager of our Airfreight department in Aarhus for almost 10 years, decided to go into early retirement at the end of June. To mark the occasion, Blue Water Aarhus held an informal reception for colleagues, suppliers and clients who appeared in large numbers to wish the well-liked “pensioner” a long and happy retirement. 22

For the recent ten years, Blue Water has delivered freight solutions to many clients in cooperation with CLdN Cargo/Cobelfret. One of the clients is Petersen Tegl, for whom we transport bricks, among other things, to the UK. During a visit to Denmark, CLdN Cargo/Cobelfret called on Petersen Tegl and took the opportunity to see the port facilities in Esbjerg where Blue Water handles many stevedoring activities for the shipping line. Visit from Canada

In the beginning of July, Dan Nissen and Hanne Bärthel visited Blue Water Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. It was a tight schedule of meetings with both clients and colleagues. However, there was also time to taste the delicious specialities at the local restaurants and with a bit of practice, the Danish delegation became rather good at using the chopsticks.

July marked the opening of Headspace in Esbjerg - a guidance help centre for young people aged 12-25, who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. A large part of the employees are volunteers and the centre receives support from several foundations. “The Blue Water Foundation supports different initiatives because we are very aware of our social responsibility. We are pleased to support Headspace because we think it is important that young people with problems have the best possibilities to get back on track”, says Kurt Skov, founder and chairman of Blue Water.

Travelling in style When a school class in Holland was on their way to a school party, Blue Water made sure they travelled in style by sponsoring an American school bus for the children. The party was arranged with music presented by a DJ and the kids, all in gala, had a great time.

It was a good break for Lasse, Thomas, Lars, Bonnie, Jim, Katrine and Jesper from Blue Water. The Director from Shipco, Christian Møgelvang and Senior Vice President Kim Ekstrøm hosted the trip which went from Liberty State Marine in New York around Manhattan to Port Washington in Long Island and back again.

Match race Kurt Skov seized the opportunity to show his skills as a captain when Jyske Bank invited him for a match race in the port of Esbjerg. As you can see from the photo, the other competitors were left behind.

Impressive sailing ships In connection with the Tall Ships Races in Esbjerg, Blue Water arranged a combined client and staff event. The Tall Ships Races is an international sailing race for big sailing ships from 30 participating countries. Esbjerg was the last of the sailing race’s four ports of call and during the festivities, close to half a million people visited the port of Esbjerg. Clients, staff and their families were invited to an informal get-together with food and drinks

in a big marquee outside Blue Water’s headquarters. ”We arranged the get-together event because the Tall Ships Races is a unique opportunity to show our clients, staff and their families the port of Esbjerg in a different light. The Many sailing ships were an impressive sight and we are happy that so many wished to participate and I believe it was a god and relaxed way to meet”, says Kurt Skov.

The hardest ride ever Through the years, several Blue Water employees have participated in Team Rynkeby – a national cycling team, which goes to Paris each year to collect money to the Children’s Cancer Foundation. This year, Ole Bøgh Ulriksen, General Manager from Blue Water Aalborg participated in the challenging tour. “There is no doubt that it has been the hardest and most challenging tour ever. The rainy and cold weather has surprised everybody and several riders – including the experienced ones – have suffered during the tour”, says Carl Erik Dalbøge, Director of Team Rynkeby Foundation, which arranges the trip to Paris. In Aalborg, the colleagues were proud to see that Ole Bøgh Ulriksen completed the race and he is now part of an exclusive group of riders who have completed the challenge. Around 1.6 million DKK have been collected and we would like to thank the sponsors who have supported Ole and the project.
