Dear Keenwa Mother Grain FRO M THE Ancient Wisdom
DEAR KEENWA, This is a test for the cosmos. For three weeks, and three days, I have been sending you mail Keenwa. Not one single letter has been published. I know it's been a mercury retrograde, and my preferred form of communication is ESP, but if this one passes, we will indeed know astrology is a true science considering mercury has now finally stationed direct. - Fated Union DEAR FATED UNION, Yes, yes, all is above board here. The computers are omm-ing, the press chanting. We have had our Byron Bazaar sharing circle to kick off the issue. The delivery guy has blessed his bike tyres, and begun his rounds in bare feet. The graphics fella has written his intentions for an abundant drop. We have all surfed, meditated, drank 'buchu and coconut lattes (even the big boss), and dropped our kids at their Steiner Schools. I don't know about astrology, but this publication is Byron legit.
DEAR KEENWA, Is it just me, or is P.M.S truth serum? There are a million light years between where I want to be and where I am atm, and not even my mountain of choccie stash will fuel me enough to get there. Also being able to read the thoughts of everyone I pass is just so draining. Any ideas? - Touche Thursday DEAR TOUCHE THURSDAY, In the old days of the red tent, you would have been chillin' and Netflixing with your babes, well, in a red tent. Without kids. Without hubby. But alas the capitalist society we live in wants us to soldier on and produce, and then calls us mean names when we are cranky about it. Listen to your body. Refuse to cook dinner, go to school meetings, and grocery shop until you muster up the energy to attack your goals again. This is the role-modelling our sons and daughters need.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC TO CHILL OUT TO? At home you'll find me listening to all sorts of music; The Beatles, Father John Misty, Beyonce, LCD Sounds System, the Beastie Boys, Leon Bridges, Dope Lemon – it's quite eclectic. My teenage heart still belongs to Radiohead and Weezer. Go check out modernloveceremonies.com.au to learn more about Cara and to get in touch with one of the Shires true local legends.
Cara Gallagher WEDDING CELEBRANT AND VOICE-OVER ARTIST TELL US WHERE YOU’RE FROM AND HOW YOU ENDED UP IN BYRON. I grew up in Nambucca Heads and went to high school in Coffs Harbour. We spent about 10 years in Sydney working and playing, and then after my husband and I started a family we wanted to get back to a country lifestyle and be closer to family. The Mid North Coast seemed like the perfect place to lay down some roots and give our kids a childhood like our own. YOU’RE A VOICE OVER ARTIST AND A WEDDING CELEBRANT – DO THESE ROLES SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER IN ANY WAY? They do actually. I'm very good at cold reading, meaning I can look at a script and quickly work out the way it needs to sound, which is important in both roles. You also need good people skills in both, as you're always working with new people. And the schedules seem to fit in well - most weddings are performed late in the afternoon or on weekends, whereas the voice work is 9-5. IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT BYRON WHAT WOULD IT BE? More understanding and acceptance between different groups of people and less judgement – but that's a universal problem and not something that Byron has a monopoly on. COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE – “I LOVE …. chocolate, surfing, dancing and spending quality time with loved ones.” IF YOU WENT TO A FANCY-DRESS PARTY, WHO WOULD YOU GO AS, AND WHY? Once I went to a “W” party as Watermelon Girl. I carved a helmet from a watermelon, donned a cape and wore my undies on the outside of my tights. I also went as a chilli to a Mexican party once – so I guess fruit and veg are my go to. BYRON IS RENOWNED FOR ITS WILD BRUSH TURKEYS. HAVE YOU EVER HAD ONE GATE CRASH A WEDDING? Brush Turkeys love a wedding – they will always come and check out the floral design of an arbour, to see if anyone is hiding any snacks in there.
