INTRO south korea

South Korea (About this sound listen), officially the Republic of Korea. The name Korea is derived from the ancient Kingdom of Goguryeo, also known as Koryŏ. Half of the population live in the Seoul Capital Area, the world’s second largest city[10] with over 25 million residents[11] and a leading global city[12] with the fourth largest economy,rated in 2016 as the world’s most livable megacity and safest city to live in. Highly mountainous, South Korea is a popular winter sport destination in Asia, hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics. South Korea, an East Asian nation on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, shares one of the world’s most heavily militarized borders with North Korea. It’s equally known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees and centuries-old Buddhist temples, plus its coastal fishing villages, tropical islands and high-tech cities such as Seoul, the capital.

visiting places general_information Gamcheon Culture Villiage Gamcheon Culture Villiage lead to the village’s cultural center houses a wide alleys as shown below, formed by the cascade foothills area of London called to Machu Picchu, a theme that house projects and alleyways of tours throughout the formative work experience, recreated by local residents a place where you can enjoy the sights.

National maritime museum The National Maritime Museum is the only domestic marine museum. Opened in 1994, it is a 2-story building with a B1 floor. There are 4 main exhibit halls and one special exhibit hall. You can view the landscape around the old sea and learn about the world’s marine excavation history in this exhibition hall.

busan cinema center Busan Cinema Center is an official venue of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) –one of the most popular film festivals in Asia—and has become a symbol of the festival itself. From an architectural perspective, the center is a historic work that embodies the theories of deconstructivism while exhibiting a sense of formative beauty.

This spacious museum with five floors offers exhibition halls, archives, educational rooms, and an outdoor sculpture park. Nurturing artists and offering high quality exhibitions, the museum provides visitors with excellent opportunities to appreciate art. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed Every Monday and on New Years’ Day.

nurimaru apec house Located on Dongbaekseom Island, which is noted for its beautiful, natural landscape accented by dense camellia and pine trees. Nurimaru, a 3-story building, is a modernistic expression of “jeongja,” a pavilion in traditional Korean architectural style. Its roof shape symbolizes the ridgeline of Dongbaekseom Island. Its interior design is a visual display of Korea’s creative traditional culture.

Gukje Market Art Street Located in Sinchang-dong, Jung-gu Busan, Art Street is the site of various art contests, exhibitions, cultural events, and special events related to the Pusan International Film Festival. It has also nurtured young artists and offered diverse artwork and artrelated activities. As the focal point of cultural tourism in Busan, the street has contributed immensely to promoting culture and art in Busan.


visiting places general_information dalmaji-gil road Dalmaji-gil Road is a small walkway on the corner to Songjeong Beach. and boasts beautiful cherry blossoms and pine trees, which are located just beyond Haeundae Beach, on the slope of Mt.Wausan. The landscape, with the blue sea, sandy seashore, and pine trees, is beautiful enough to be the representative place of this area for a long time to come.

jagalchi market The Jagalchi Market is Korea’s largest seafood market. Most of the people who sell fish are women, so the women who sell here are called ‘Jagalchi Ajumma,’ ‘ajumma’ meaning middle-aged or married women. This market represents Busan and is famous throughout the country. The Jagalchi Market is where you can see the lifestyle of the indigenous Busan natives.

busan tower Busan Tower is a symbol of Busan that stands proudly 69m above sea level at a height of 120m. Beloved by Busan citizens and tourists alike, the tower offers a stunning night view and plenty to see, such as the Statue of the Great Admiral Yi Sunshin, the Bell of the Citizens, a flower clock and a bust of the Busan-based independent activist, Baeksan An Hee-je.


visiting places general_information Beomeosa temple Beomeosa Temple is located at the edge of Mt. Geumjeongsan, a famous mountain in Busan. About 1,300 years ago it was constructed by monk Ui Sang in the 18th year (678) of King Munmu (reign 661~681) of the Silla Kingdom Designated as a natural monument, the wisteria woods and valleys are most beautiful in May.

busan chinatown China Town, which is located across the street from Busan Station, is also known as Shanghai Street. In this Chinese-style street you can see the Shanghai Gate established by both Busan City and Shanghai City. Mainly packed with many Chinese restaurants, China Town attracts Korean, Chinese as well as many foreign tourists.

40-step Culture & tourism street The ‘40-step Culture & Tourism Theme Street’ is a 450m-street which starts from the Jungang-dong branch office of KB Bank and runs to the 40-step stairway of the ‘40-step Cultural Center’ and continues on to the Palseong Tour. The entire area has been recently renovated to reflect life in Korea in the 50s and 60s and is expected to become another major tourist spot.

samsung museum of art Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, exhibits traditional and modern works of art by Korean and international artists. The museum itself is just as fascinating as the works of art on display, since its three buildings were designed by the internationally renowned architects, Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel, and Rem Koolhaas.

Many experts from different fields were consulted numerous times and exhaustive research was done in order to complete the exhibits. This memorial is the largest of its kind in the world.

national museum of korea The National Museum of Korea is located about 1.5 km away from Yongsan Station. It is the largest museum in Korea and houses precious Korean cultural assets that tell the story of Korea’s fascinating history, from ancient times to the modern era.

n seoul tower Seoul Tower opened to the public on October 15, 1980 and has since become a major tourist attraction. The 236.7 meter tower sits atop Namsan Mountain (243m). The observatory offers panoramic views of Seoul and the surrounding areas. With a new lighting system and changes to the tower’s overall color scheme, event coordinators can now decorate the tower for the season or events.

Namdaemun Market opens from 11:00pm to 3:00am, and is crowded with retailers from all over the country. When day breaks, the site of busy Koreans bustling around the market, creates a unique scene that attracts tourists worldwide.

sungnyemun gate Sungnyemun Gate is Korea’s National Treasure No. 1, and its unofficial name is Namdaemun Gate. Sungnyemun Gate is the largest castle gate stone structure with an arched entrance in the middle. There’s a column on top of a platform, raising the roof, distinguishing the upper stories and lower stories of the building. A passageway for traffic is located at the east and west ends of the gate.

seoul city hall Founded in 1926, Seoul City Hall is a Renaissance-style stone building. Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall is a historic site. This oval grass square in front of Seoul City Hall, re-established in 2004, is used as a place to hold various events and cultural festivals like “Hi! Seoul Festival,” and is enjoyed by many Seoulites as a place to rest.


visiting places general_information gyeongbokgung palace Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is also commonly referred to as the Northern Palace because its location is furthest north when compared to the neighboring palaces of Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and Gyeongheegung (Western Palace) Palace. Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful, and remains the largest of all five palaces.

dongdaemun design plaza Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a blend of traditional buildings, relics and cutting-edge modern multicultural facilities. Seoul Fortress, Igansumun Water Gate Dongdaemun History Hall, the Dongdaemun Excavation Site, Dongdaemun Sports Memorial Hall, Event Hall, and Design Gallery can all be found at the DDP.

Hongik university Hongik University has the most well known school of Fine Arts and Design in Korea and has built cutting-edge facilities on the campus. Sculptures can be found throughout the campus, and the Munheongwan Hall in the university contains a museum of contemporary art, which holds exhibitions by students, faculty members, or acclaimed professional artists.

The Ewha Womans University area is one of the most popular shopping districts in Seoul. Clothing stores in the area sell affordable and stylish fashions for young people. Restaurants in the area cater to the tastes of young women, and many international dining chains have branches here.

kyobo bookstore Kyobo Bookstore is Korea’s largest chain of bookstores. Approximately 2.3 million books are categorized electronically so you can easily find whatever selection you are looking for. It is always crowded with people, especially on weekends with readers both young and old enjoying a good book. Kyobo also hosts a variety of events,where authors come and meet with readers to discuss their work.

urban hive The Urban Hive is a building designed by architect In-Cheurl Kim, located at the address of 200-7 Nonhyundong, Gangnam-gu in Seoul, Korea. The building is called the Urban Hive because of its unusual honeycomb exterior structure. The Urban Hive awarded the grand prize in Seoul Architecture Award in 2009.

Inspired by the shapes found in traditional Korean pottery, the GT Tower’s contours create a wave-like façade. The building gives variation to the traditional Korean office building, creating a stark contrast with the business-like orthogonal character of its neighbors.

abc building The ABC Building is located around SeonJeong Royal Tomb with history of old Seoul in Gangnam area in Korea. The boastful - glaring buildings in Gangnam block view from the site to the royal tombs park while the roof of five story building suddenly opens view to beautiful landscape of the park. The building can be regarded as “Architectural Mountain” the roof terrace as “Architectural Summit”.


visiting places general_information house of dior From the architect. I wanted the building to represent Dior and to reflect Christian Dior’s work. So I wanted the surfaces to flow, like the couturier’s soft, woven white cotton fabric.
