DESIGN NARRATIVE:
Sound-Breaking: “breaking” implies innovation — something new, something iconoclastic, something that hasn’t been done before. “Sound” is a metaphor for a strong, stable institution. Sound-Breaking is what recording studios hope to be, both literally,

LIGHTING FOR RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE
HIGH PROFILE CLIENT - RESIDENTIAL GARDEN DESIGN INITIATIVE: To provide a soft naturalistic glow of light in a residential garden with light fixtures that can hold both halogen and LED light sources. DESIGN CHALLENGE: The lack of an existing RCP was our first challenge in this project. Due to the COVID restrictions, we were unable to go on site and take field measurements, so our team had to come up with other ways to determine field measurements. Finding a suitable fixture to house both halogen and LED lamps was our next challenge because halogen light sources are outdated and not provided by most lighting manufacturers.

Beaches that face the open sea are considered to be turtle nesting habitat. Special consideration must be given to the lighting adjacent to these beaches.

In turtle nesting zones it is important to eliminate and minimize all lighting. Lighting in areas that are adjacent and visible from these zones should be carefully controlled and when visible from these zones emit light in the long wavelengths (“warm”)

DESIGN INITIATIVE: To provide and deliver a sustainable, integrated architectural lighting solution for the exterior landscape, interior hotel suites, and exterior building facades in the Amaala Wellness Resort & Spa, located in Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Red Sea. The lighting design for Amaala aims to preserve the night sky above the Red Sea, adding in only necessary lighting to demonstrate the understanding of nighttime at the Wellness Core. The concept for the site lighting is for a family of Dark sky compliant high-performance road and path lighting to control the light only where it is needed and limit the amount of lighting equipment required.

Tested the fixture tile and valance so that we could determine how to cut the light off right beofre the molding where the curved ceiling turns into a flat plane.
DESIGN INITIATIVE: To provide and replace the existing cove lighting with updated LED fixtures that have color tuning capabilities for use in different events. DESIGN CHALLENGE: Due to COVID restrictions, part of the design team was not able to visit the site and take the measurements needed to build the mockups. Once more field measurements were provided, ceiling details were modified and/or added to improve the accuracy of the mockup. The cut off from the sight line angle was very important in all conditions and therefore studied thoroughly. Each room’s main source of lighting came from the cove, so finding a fixture that not only met the small profile dimensions due to the sight line restrictions, but also met the requirements for high output and color tuning capability was a challenge. BF Conference Room Cove -Test the fixture tile and valance so that we can cut-off the light after the molding appears on the ceiling. -Study shadow areas on the opposite wall of the above the view cut-off line, if any.

There are lucifer downlights that prevent the fixture from moving any further back than 6.75” in reference to the back wall, we decided to make this our max dimension and then 5.75” as our min dimension (for fixtures that aren’t blocked by the downlight and are able to move a little farther back – but not too far back so we can avoid any inconsistent lighting effects that are visible from the ground.)

LOUIS VUITTON - DUBAI The Areas of our involvement will be the following: • Women’s and Men’s Clothing • VIP Suites • Luggage DESIGN INITIATIVE: To focus all the adjustable fixtures on site for the grand opening of the Louis Vuitton Store, located in Dubai. DESIGN CHALLENGE: Our retail team of 4 designers had 9 days to focus the entire store. Due to the high pressure of a grand opening event, final locations of the merchandise were constantly within the store. Staying organized and aware of constant modifications to the focusing plan were key factors in providing our client with the most high-end lighting brand/aesthetic and completing the project on time.

The Areas of our involvement will be the following: • West Interior Lightwell • East Interior Lightwell DESIGN INITIATIVE: To provide a naturalistic lighting effect on three interior walls of a lightwell located adjacent to a commercial workplace building. Creating a mounting solution that allows the fixtures to be hidden from the adjacent terrace while also highlighting the interior walls will create the impression that more daylight is reaching the office space. DESIGN CHALLENGE: The lightwell adjoins 2 adjacent buildings, one of which we are able to mount fixtures on.
