Hi Crafters, Welcome to a brand new digital Tattered Lace magazine! I’d first of all like to introduce myself, I’m Beckie and I’m the new Managing Editor. You may recognise my name as I have been involved in the creation of the magazine right from the very first issue, starting out as a graphic designer moving up to Assitant Editor working under and being mentored by the lovely Nancy Watt. There’s been a few changes to the magazine since you saw it last, some you will be aware of, others you’ll find out as you start making your way through this magazine, the most obvious one being it’s got a new look! We really wanted to bring some more educational aspects back to the magazine, so we’re not simply teaching you how to press buttons on your machine and construct a card. We want to get you back to using your machine for what it was made for, and anything it can’t do, that’s what we have designed and created for you! We’re all about giving you as much information, inspiration and education as we can and each issue we will bring you something different! We’ve got some great projects in this issue. Your exclusive SVG, the Dapper Mouse and Bowler Hat stencil make such sophisticated cards! Then it’s all about the florals which are perfectly complemented with our Dearest Doily and Tag-A-Long SVG files. Then rounding up the magazine step into fantasy land! Fold the base card as shown in the image. Mat the two hat backing paper rectangles onto the kraft cardstock rectangles and mat onto either side of the card.

Mat the book backing paper rectangles onto the grey cardstock rectangles and mat onto the card. Mat the sentiment oval onto the kraft cardstock oval and mat onto the card with foam tape. Trim the Dapper Mouse cuts as shown and colour with the pens. Colour the flower and leaf sprig as shown.

Add foam tape to the back of the mouse cuts and build up the decoupage. Mat onto the front of the card and mat the flower and leaf sprig onto the mouse’s hand.

Cut all the pieces needed to create the project as listed below. Make up the envelope folding the sides in first and securing the bottom with tape. Leave the top open. Stamp the inner envelope piece and mat inside the envelope. On the white rectangle, measure down 15mm, 80mm and 120mm, score and fold. Add tape to the bottom tab and stick to bottom of the back of the envelope. Mat the strip to the back of the envelope with foam tape. Tuck the folded rectangle under the strip to create a stand.

Trim the Dapper Mouse cuts as shown. On the white outline cut, measure down 28mm from the top and score across to create a tab.

Add foam tape to the back of the mouse cuts and build up the decoupage. Mat onto grey outline. Mat onto the white outline using the tab. Mat the mouse to the card by tucking and sticking the white outline cut onto the inside of the envelope. Mat the sentiment onto the card with foam tape.

One of the white squares, measure 10mm in from the left edge and score to create a tab. Mat to the other white square to create a card. Mat the grey, kraft and book backing paper together and mat onto the card. On the white mat cut out, use the stencil to ink circles with vintage photo distress oxide. Ink around the corners of the square with wild honey distress ink and mat onto the card.

Add foam tape to the back of the mouse cuts and build up the decoupage. Mat onto the grey outline cut and mat onto the card with foam tape. Mat the sentiment onto the small grey card rectangle and mat onto the card with foam tape.

On card front 1, the bottom edge of one square, ink a 1cm thick strip using the vintage photo distress oxide.

TOP TIP... Use low tack tape to mask off the area that you don’t want to ink.

Mat the stencil acetate onto the solid acetate. Mat to the back of the card front and then mat card front 2 behind this to hide the tape. Mat the large backing paper rectangle onto the kraft cardstock rectangle. Attach to the tab on the card front. This is the back of the card. Mat the backing paper strip onto the grey cardstock strip and mat onto the card front.

Mat the mouse outline behind the acetate and mat the charisma mouse onto top of the acetate so it sits in front of the grey mouse. Add faux stitching around the edge of the sentiment and mat onto the card with foam tape.

From machine memory: • From white cardstock - 3 x 170mm square

On one of the white squares, measure down 25mm and 120mm from a corner point and score across. Valley fold the top fold and mountain fold the middle fold. Add tape to the back of the top tab and the front bottom half of the square.

Ink around the edges of the tea stain backing paper square. Mat the tea stain backing paper square, the small grey cardstock square and large kraft cardstock square together and onto the unscored square. Attach to the other square using the tab. Mat the remaining backing paper, grey and white cardstock squares together and mat onto the bottom half of the easel.

Add faux stitching around the edges of the sentiment shaped mat. Mat onto the smaller kraft cardstock square and mat onto the card with foam tape.

Colour the mouse with the pens and trim as shown in the image. On the mouse outline with the tab, measure down 10mm from the top edge and score across to create a tab.

Mat the mouse outlines together so the one with the tab is on the back and mat the charisma mouse onto the front. Mat the sentiment over the mouse’s hat and mat the mouse onto the card base to create a stopper.

Build up the decoupage pieces and mat onto the outline. Mat onto the inside of the card so it fits within the cut out on the card front. Mat the sentiment onto the sentiment mat and mat onto the card with foam tape. Tie a multi loop bow from the twine and mat onto the card.

CREATE A STAMPED EFFECT WITH ACETATE

Cut the stencil svg file from thick acetate and ink on one side by dabbing or swiping with an ink pad.

The more ink you add the deeper the colour will be.

Remove the cardstock and lift up the acetate to reveal the stamped design.

Place the acetate ink side down onto your chosen cardstock. Place another sheet of cardstock over the top of the acetate.

Press down and rub firmly with your fingers across all areas of the acetate.

HOW TO...

CREATE A STAMPED EFFECT WITH CRAFT FOAM

Cut the stencil svg file from the craft foam and stick onto a stamping block.

Add ink to the craft foam by dabbing an ink pad. The more ink you add, the deeper your colour will be.

Turn the stamping block over and press firmly down onto your chosen cardstock.

Carefully lift up the stamping block to reveal your stamped design.

Mat the card mat onto the card base. Score and fold in half. Mat the detailed doily onto the scallop mat and mat onto the card front. Mat the card mat 2 onto the card front with foam tape.

Using the Enchanting Florals petals, make up two smaller flowers and one larger flower as in the image.

Add the flowers to the card. Tuck and stick the sentiment into the flowers with foam tape.

Cut all the pieces needed to create the project as listed below.

Mat the sentiment mat and the base mat together and mat onto the card base. Take one of the card frames and score and fold in half. Measure down 15mm from the top and score across. Sandwich the acetate between the other two card frames.

Mat the frame mat onto the acetate frame and mat the frame mat 2 on top with foam tape. Mat the acetate frame onto the bottom half of the folded frame and attach to the card base using the tab.

Ink frame mat 3 with a sticky ink pad and cover with clear embossing powder. Melt with a heat gun until glossy and mat onto the card with foam tape.

Trim the Bewitched Florals as shown in the image. Shape and add foam tape to the back of the pieces.

Decoupage the floral cuts together and mat onto the card. Tie a multi loop bow from pink ribbon and mat onto the base of the card to create a stopper. Finish with a pink gem in the centre of the bow.

HOW TO... MAKE CARD SHAPES WITH

Dearest Doily & Tag-A-Long

Tent Card: Cut two mats, score 1cm down from the top of one and fold to create a tab. Stick together.

Aperture Tent Card: Cut one mat, one mat with aperture, score 1cm down from the top of one and fold to create a tab. Stick together.

Clam Shell Card: Cut two mats, score 4.5cm down from the top of one and fold to create a tab. Stick together.

Easel Card: Cut and fold cardstock larger than chosen mat, place file just over the fold and cut. Fold card front in half horizontally. Cut mat again from cardstock and stick to easel. Cut a smaller shape to create stopper.

Twisted Easel Card: Cut and fold cardstock larger than chosen mat, place file just over the fold and cut. Fold card front in half diagonally. Cut mat again from cardstock and stick to easel. Cut a smaller shape to create stopper.

Decorative Tent Card: Cut one decorative mat with design in the centre, and one decorative mat from cardstock. Score 1cm down from the top of the solid mat and fold to create a tab. Stick together. Add tabs to help stand. Create flowers by rolling up pointy mat and detail cuts.

These card shapes can either be created in the same way as we have with the dies (cutting multiple and gluing together) or created using the SVG files and with features of your cutting machine.

Stick a magnet behind the sentiment tag towards the left hand side and mat the other plain tag behind it to hide the magnet.

Attach the tag behind the leaf backing paper square using the tab and mat onto the inside front of the card. Mat the large leaf backing paper rectangle onto the front flap to hide the magnet.

Tear along the top edge of the small leaf backing paper rectangle and mat onto the inside of the front flap, making sure to leave the top edge open to create a pocket.

Enchanting Florals There are many flowers in this magazine made using the Enchanting Florals SVG files. While these flowers may differ in style and size, they have all been build in the same fundamental way. Whether you use the charisma, or you colour the petals yourself, follow these tutorials to get you started with the basics to building flowers with your Enchanting Florals SVG files!

MAKE A SIMPLE FLOWER

Cut the Enchanting Florals from the charisma. Take five of your chosen size petal and shape the underneath of them with a ball tool on a foam mat.

Start to build up the flower by adding a little glue to the inner part of the petal and stick on another petal.

Place the completed flower back on the foam mat and using a ball tool, push into the centre of the flower.

If you wish, you could add a small scrap piece of cardstock to the back of your flower, this may help when it comes to adding to your projects.

Continue adding the rest of your petals until you have gone all the way round.

Finish off your flower with your chosen centre such as pearl gems or stamens.

------------------------- HOW TO - MAKE FLOWERS WITH ENCHANTING FLORALS ----------------------------

MAKE A LARGE FLOWER

Cut the Enchanting Florals from the charisma. Take six of one of the smaller size petals and shape the underneath of them with a ball tool on a foam mat.

Start to build up the flower by adding a little glue to the inner part of the petal. Wet glue will give you time to adjust the positioning.

Continue adding the rest of your petals until you have gone all the way round.

With the next petal size up, start adding these to the back of your flower.

Before adding anymore petals, turn the flower over and shape the back of the petals with a ball tool.

Cut the Enchanting Florals from green cardstock. Add shading with ink or pens.

With the next petal size up, complete another full circle of petals gluing them to the back of the flower.

Stick the leaf to the back of the flower.

Start to add your petals gluing each one to the previous petal.

Once again, continue until you have gone all the way round. Use as many petals as you need to meet the first petal.

Use the ball tool again to add more shape to the petals from the front.

Finish off your flower with your chosen centre such as pearl gems or stamens.

Mat the large backing paper rectangle onto the large silver cardstock rectangle and mat onto the inside of the card.

Mat the thin backing paper rectangles onto the thin silver cardstock rectangles and mat onto the folds of the card front. Mat the remaining backing paper rectangle onto the last silver rectangle and mat onto the front of the card. Mat the doily mat onto the front fold with foam tape.

Mat the tent card onto the front and back of the stepper. Mat the sentiment tag onto the card with foam tape.

Trim Daydream cuts. Leave one whole and trim the outer towers from the second cut. Add foam tape to the back of the pieces. Build up the decoupage and mat onto the card.

Mat the card front mat onto the card front lining up the aperture. Tear the top edge of the card mat 2 piece and mat onto the card front lining up with the apeture. Tear along the top edge of the small night scene backing paper rectangle and mat onto the bottom of the card front.

Mat the acetate onto the back of the card front. Attach to the card back using the tab.

Mat the carriage cut onto the grey outline using foam tape and mat onto the card with foam tape. Mat the sentiment onto the card with foam tape.

Tear along the top edge of the starry backing paper strip and mat onto the tent. Mat the tent card onto the card front so the back sits under the front fold.

Add pink glitter cardstock behind one of the Ava cuts and trim away the excess. Use a pink pen to colour in the top of her dress. Trim the Bewitched Florals as shown. Shape and add foam tape behind all pieces.

Layer up the Ava cuts and mat onto the outline cut with foam pads. Build up the flower decoupage.

Mat all the cuts onto the tent card. Fold the sentiment rectangle in half across the middle to create a little tent card and mat onto the card. Finish by adding gems.

On the large white rectangle, from the top edge, measure down 10mm, score and fold to create a tab. From the bottom edge measure up 70mm, score and fold. Attach the tab to the white square to create the card. Mat the pearl backing paper square onto the silver mirror cardstock square and mat onto the card front. Mat the long starry backing paper rectangle onto the silver mirror cardstock rectangle and mat onto the card.

On one of the plain white medium tags, fold in half across the middle and score down 20mm from the top edge and fold to create a tab.

Attach the folded tag to the other plain white tag using the tab to create an easel. Mat the sentiment tag onto the front of the easel.

With the second backing paper scallop mat, tear off the bottom to a 20mm thickness and save for the last step.

Build up the decoupage mat onto the card. Mat the torn circle piece over the bottom of the carriage. Tie a triple loop bow from gold ribbon and mat onto the card. Finish by adding gems.

COLUMN Hi Crafters, Nancy here! The new team over at Tattered Lace HQ have given me a page to keep you up to date with me and my crafty antics. So keep an eye out and I’ll be here for a general chit chat, to answer any questions you might have or to share any projects with you that I’ve been working on! But we thought we’d start off with a bit of fun so they sent me some questions to answer so you can all get to know me a little bit better, so here goes...

What is your favourite food?

Ooo, I’d have to say ice cream! Especially Magnums!

What is your favourite drink?

A Villa Maria NZ Blush Sauvignon.

What is your favourite animal? Aww, our lovely little dog Jasbo.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to have the power to be able to heal people.

What three celebrities would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

They would have to be George Michael, Rik Mayall and Victoria Wood! We’d have a great time!

What’s your favourite film? Romeo & Juliet, the Baz Luhrman version.

What’s your favourite song?

Oh I have way too many!!! Luther Vandross - Never Too Much. Faithless - Insomnia and basically anything from Coldplay!

Are you a summer or a winter person? I actually prefer the Spring over both of them.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I love holidaying in Norfolk, but Dubai is lovely to visit for some sun!

What’s your favourite Tattered Lace die? I always loved the 1920’s collections.

What was your first job?

I was a secretary in London. My office was right by the Tower Of London.

If you weren’t a crafting celebrity, what would your ideal job be? I would love to work on the Cruise Liners around the world, I could run the crafting workshops!.
