IN THIS EDITION of the Essential Guide to Kitchens, we celebrate a variety of design features and styles, from modern urban aesthetics to classic designs. These kitchens are often inspired by architecture and a sense of place, whether they showcase an ocean view or provide discreet storage solutions.

The outdoor kitchen is high on the wish list of many homeowners. Living in a state that embraces the indoor/ outdoor lifestyle, grilling appliances take center stage. Additionally, outdoor spaces offer expanded areas for entertaining, effectively serving as extensions of our interior living rooms. Clé was born from the blog Tile Envy, where tile industry authority, artist, and entrepreneur Deborah Osburn shared her reverence for Tile, knowledge from over 30 years in the industry

'Tile Envy' began as a personal love letter to Tile. Soon, it became a cult hit, with fans resonating with the combination of art and tile authority. They also began clamoring to buy the Tile. Pallets came and went from Osburn's northern California garage. Neighbors complained. Eyebrows were raised. And thus, Clé was born.

After receiving his engineering degree, he started working in the electronics industry. During this period, he continued to mill custom-sized lumber on weekends for local craftsmen, build custom furniture, and create custom wood butcher blocks to customer requests.

The tremendous demand for the product quickly led to a new career. The butcher blocks increased to include custom wood countertops, bar tops, and tables. The unsurpassed quality, design, and construction capabilities of Grothouse are a result of his extensive experience in woodworking and engineering.
