It is a privilege to share and celebrate the impact of philanthropy at Calvert through our 2023-2024 Report on Giving.
Calvert parents, alumni, grandparents, trustees, employees, and friends rallied together to exceed our Calvert Fund goal, raising $1,320,510. Donors designated their support to academics, financial aid, the Institute for Leadership & Purpose, arts, athletics, and more.
Thoughtful and generous contributions were given in honor of loved ones, teachers, classmates, and our newest alumni, the Class of 2024. Each gift made an immediate and valued impact on our students, teachers, and programs.
Donations at all levels are valued and reflect the strength of our community. Notably, gifts of $500 and below totaled over $180,000, representing the power of participation. Together, we can all make a big difference.
Our success would not be possible without the tireless work of our robust 2023-2024 Calvert Fund volunteer team, led by Idalis and Jon Bicknell, as well as our Board of Trustees and the Development Committee.
In addition to prioritizing the Calvert Fund, donors grew our endowment through major and planned gifts, made transformative Calvert 125 contributions, and supported special projects. In total, we raised more than $2.9 million.
Whether you are a first-time donor or a decades-long supporter, a new parent or a proud alum, your belief in our mission strengthens the Calvert experience, and ensures the continued excellence of a Calvert education.
On behalf of our grateful students and teachers, thank you for your ongoing support of Calvert School.
Josie George Worthington ’72, Leadership Gifts Officer
The 2023-2024 Report on Giving celebrates philanthropy between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. All gifts to Calvert are valued, and every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this information.

Financial Aid in Support of Leadership Programming $25,000
in Assistance Offered to Participating Families
Immersive leadership journeys are an integral component of the Institute for Leadership & Purpose (ILP). During the 2023-2024 school year, journeys took students to the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia, The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas, Cochiti in New Mexico, the Chilamate Eco Retreat in Costa Rica, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Led by ILP Director Sarah DeCamps, Calvert chaperones, and in partnership with The World Leadership School, The Island School, and Experience Learning, Seventh and Eighth Grade students experience several days of unplugged outdoor education and cultural immersion. Through these varied trips, Calvert students expand their global awareness, participate in different service opportunities, and engage in physical activities like hiking, caving, and snorkeling. Students study conservation, learn about ethnobotany, cacao farming, and diverse cultures amongst other adventures that reimagine learning while inspiring tomorrow’s leaders to impact communities and the world.
Financial aid makes it possible for students to participate in these journeys regardless of means. Thanks to the generosity of the Louise Este Bruce Foundation and anonymous benefactors, Calvert was able to offer more than $25,000 in ILP financial aid and associated costs last fiscal year.

The Calvert School community is grateful for the generous support of alumna Annie George ’08. A third-generation graduate, Annie deeply understands the impact of a Calvert foundation. She makes Calvert a philanthropic priority to ensure that current and future students can benefit from a strong educational start.
Annie recognizes that attending Calvert is an investment, and she chooses to designate her annual gifts to the financial aid program. These important funds assist families who could not otherwise afford the full cost of tuition.
“I give back to Calvert in support of financial aid so that bright, curious students will have access to the wonderful education that has enriched my own life and experiences,” Annie shared.
Annie George’08 converses with peers at Calvert’s “Welcome to the City” alumni event in New York last fall.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT
Diana Russell Deacon ’47 and Scholarship for Kiddie Calvert Students
Leading the way for others to follow and challenging all, Diana Russell Deacon ’47 made a leadership gift to provide aid to children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend Calvert’s outstanding early education center. Diana has seen firsthand the value of a strong preschool education.
Diana is a firm believer in Virgil Hillyer’s words, “the first teaching is the most important of all.” As a proud graduate of Calvert School and a valued member of the Hillyer Society, Diana welcomed an education focused on the fundamentals but delighted in all that was presented to her. Absorbing a daily curriculum, cultivating curiosity, and a joy of learning helped lead Diana to a lifetime in education and later to a second career as a psychoanalyst focusing on parents and children.
It is Diana’s hope that others will join her in this worthy cause to expose the earliest learners to Kiddie Calvert’s philosophy, “Learning to Play, Playing to Learn.” Calvert thanks Diana for her extraordinary support of Kiddie Calvert while positively impacting our youngest children.

T. Howard F.
Stick
’50 and the New Lower School Piano
Calvert’s Lower School Auditorium is home to a new grand piano thanks to the generosity of T. Howard F. Stick ’50
Honoring his siblings, Gordon M.F. Stick, Jr. ’44 and Anne H.F. Stick Hopkins ’40, Mr. Stick’s meaningful gift is a joyful addition to Calvert’s thriving music program. From beloved class plays and assemblies to musicals and private lessons, Mr. Stick’s generosity will uplift and present our entire community with beautiful music for years to come.
Since graduating from Calvert in 1950, Mr. Stick has come to realize and appreciate the roots that were planted at an early age. The foundation he received, and the fundamentals he learned at Calvert helped prepare him for life. With this thoughtful donation, Mr. Stick has shown his heartwarming appreciation and gratitude to Calvert School and has made a lasting impact on our community.
