SUMMER AT CALVERT 2021 Week 1: Monday, June 14 - Friday, June 18 Week 2: Monday, June 21 - Friday, June 25 Week 3: Monday, June 28 - Friday, July 2 Week 4: Tuesday, July 6 - Friday July 9 Camp Day: 8:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. Extended day option* 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. *Additional fee of $60 per week per child.

Summer at Calvert seeks to foster all campers’ creativity, imagination, athleticism, and sense of community in a safe and familiar environment. A full-day camp for boys and girls, Summer at Calvert is open to current Calvert and nonCalvert families. There is something for all Lower and Middle school-aged children at Calvert in the summer!

Summer at Calvert camps will ensure that every possible precaution is taken in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. QUESTIONS?

Week 1: June 14 - 18

Ultimate Kids Camp Ages 4-6 • Mrs. Megan DeLorbe, Mrs. Sarah Travers, and Ms. Sydney Roberson A fun, adventurous day camp for our youngest campers. Campers will enjoy daily themes, arts and crafts, science experiments, outdoor activities, water play, and making new friends! Campers entering Fifth Age or Kindergarten through first grade are welcomed to join our exciting full-day program!

Little Medical School Ages 7-9 • Little Medical School Little Medical School of Baltimore brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to your children in an entertaining and fun way! Through interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games, children learn how the body and organs work, how to use real doctors’ instruments, and simulate a mini-medical school experience complete with a white coat ceremony and Hippocratic oath and graduation!

Math and Art Ages 7-9 • Mrs. Ashley Barnett Campers will create beautiful pieces of art while reviewing math skills.

“REEL” Irish Dance Ages 7-9 • Mrs. Kim Gailey-Fitting “REEL” Irish Dance will teach campers the basics of Irish dancing with Mrs. Gailey-Fitting. Mrs. GaileyFitting has done Irish dancing her whole life, competed in multiple levels and divisions, and qualified for the world championship in Dublin, Ireland. Campers will also learn about the importance and hisory of dance in Ireland.



Week 1: June 14 - 18 Tennis Camp Ages 7-9 • Coach Michael Cianos Tennis camp is open to all developmental levels. Children will learn to enhance their game through a combination of skills, strategies, and matches each day. Teamwork and good sportsmanship will be crucial skills as campers work together and compete against opponents.

Basketball Camp for Girls Ages 10-12 • Mrs. Kim Daly Campers will learn and practice the fundamentals of basketball through individualized skill work and fun games. Some skills we will cover include dribbling, ball handling, shooting, types of cuts, moves to the basket, rebounding, passing, and defensive positioning. Each girl will see improvement in her own skill and learn many drills that she can practice on her own for continued improvement, while also learning to love the sport of basketball.

Conservation Arts and Crafts Ages 10-12 • Mr. Paul Libertini Campers will create all kinds of artwork throughout the week using many different recycled objects and materials that we gather and/or find outside in the woods. Some of the activities include tie-dying shirts, melting down crayons to make new ones, building a model city with cardboard boxes, creating plastic bottle terrariums, and making marble mazes, wind chimes, and plastic lid monsters.

Lacrosse for Girls Ages 10-12 • Ms. Sarah Dennison Enjoy a week of lacrosse and crafting! Throughout the week, we will be learning the fundamentals of girls’ lacrosse through competitive games and drills, as well as some fun and challenging agility and sports conditioning drills. Campers will become better lacrosse players and bring home some new skills and tools to take into their own backyards. We will also offer daily crafts, including beading and paper mâché.


Music and the History of Civilization Ages 10-12 • Ms. Elizabeth Ernst In this cross-curricular program, campers will explore music and its role throughout history. Campers will learn how music has changed over time by exploring music eras from medieval through modern. They will get to know important composers and their contributions to music as well as the evolution of instruments and music notation, and some music theory basics.

Musical Theater Camp Ages 10-12 • Ms. Hannah Palmatary Musical theater camp will get kids singing, dancing, acting, and performing up on stage! We will learn an ensemble number, work on monologues and dialogue, practice some choreography, and design and construct our own costumes! Perseverance, dedication, and focus will be vital skills learned alongside the fundamentals of theater.

Sports Camp Ages 10-12 • Dynasty Sports Academy Instructor Campers will learn and play a variety of fun sports, including basketball, Wiffle ball, soccer, and volleyball, as well as popular P.E. games like handball and Capture the Flag! Campers will learn valuable athletic skills and sportsmanship in a competitive and safe environment.

Mermaid Maidens Dance Camp Ages 4-6 • Ms. Olivia Kowalski Students will dive into a week full of ballet and tap dance classes celebrating the music from The Little Mermaid. Crafts and story time centered around the theme will also be incorporated throughout this underwater journey.

Future Engineers: STEM Camp Ages 7-9 • Ms. Kathie Jefferson This summer you could have the chance to learn about the engineering and design process through a variety of STEM activities. Each day will be themed with collaborative science, technology, engineering, and math activities for the campers. Campers will create water slides, design a device to make chocolate melt faster, learn coding on tablets, and so much more!

Little Veterinarian School Ages 7-9 • Little Medical School Staff Little Veterinarian School encourages elementary school children to role play and explore the exciting world of veterinarians. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts, and games, kids adopt their own animal (stuffed animal), learn how to take care of a pet, and use instruments that real veterinarians use. Children will experience a mini-vet school experience complete with a white coat ceremony and graduation!



Week 2: June 22 - 26 Marine Biology Camp Ages 7-9 • Ms. Hannah Palmatary Calling all ocean explorers! We will dive into the study of marine biology through interactive projects, games, and activities that allow us to understand life under the waves. Campers will leave with newfound knowledge of marine biology along with an understanding of human impact on this unique ecosystem.

Basketball and More Ages 10-12 • Mr. Jason Till Campers will learn the fundamentals of basketball through games and drills. There will be an emphasis on learning the basics through teamwork and fun! We’ll keep things fresh by doing a few other indoor and outdoor games as well throughout the week.

Book Writing Camp Ages 10-12 • Mrs. Ashley Barnett Campers will learn how to write and illustrate their own picture book that can be shared with family and friends.

Cooking Around the World Ages 10-12 • Mrs. Kim Gailey-Fitting Join Mrs. Gailey-Fitting on a culinary trip around the world! Campers will learn how to cook different culinary dishes, participants will learn about the cultures and what the land offers for the dishes. Campers will use cooking utensils and the stove/oven, safely.

Wacky Science Ages 10-12 • Ms. Kelly Boothe Spend the week doing fun experiences like Oobleck and slime, bottle rockets, erupting volcanoes, homemade bouncy balls and candy, kinetic sand, and more! Campers will also create simple circuits to light up a small LED, construct potato and lemon batteries, and building a mini windmill that can power a light. Finally, explore some of the nature around Calvert while bird-watching, conducting water tests, and playing fun nature games.




Week 3: June 28 - July 2

Campers will enjoy daily themes, arts and crafts, science experiments, outdoor activities, water play, and making new friends! Darling Dolls Camp Ages 4-6 • Mrs. Megan DeLorbe Darling Dolls camp is an opportunity for your child to celebrate the joy of dolls. Each day we will craft a different type of doll, including paper dolls, clothespin dolls, etc.

Puppets and Bookmaking Ages 7-9 • Mrs. Ashley Barnett Campers will design and create their own puppets from a variety of materials and use their puppets to write a story. Campers are encouraged to bring their imagination and creativity!

Sports Camp Ages 7-9 • Dynasty Sports Academy Instructor Campers will learn and play a variety of fun sports, including basketball, Wiffle ball, soccer, volleyball, as well as many popular P.E. games like handball and Capture the Flag! Campers will learn valuable athletic skills and sportsmanship in a competitive and safe environment.

LEGO Robotics: Wild Safari Ages 10-12 • Silver Knights Enrichment Staff Explore the animal kingdom in this WeDo 2.0 LEGO Robotics Camp where you will build and code swinging monkeys, fierce silverback gorillas, cute koalas and more robots that climb, move, bite and roll! At the end of the week, campers receive a T-shirt.

Polynesian Princess Dance Camp Ages 4-6 • Ms. Olivia Kowalski Students will sail into a week of ballet and tap dance classes celebrating the music from Moana. Crafts and story time centered around the theme will also be incorporated throughout this adventurous week.

Arts and Crafts Around the World Ages 7-9 • Mrs. Ashley Barnett Campers will explore the different countries from around the world. Be prepared to learn about the people, traditions, foods, and crafts from unique places!

Chess Camp Ages 7-9 • Silver Knights Enrichment Staff In Chess Camp, campers play and learning about chess with Silver Knights! Silver Knights has taught 100,000 children, including national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn and have fun! Campers are broken up in groups by skill level. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, and playing lots of games against other students, which may be done via tablet or computer for safety reasons. Campers will take breaks for snacks and fresh air and have lunch and recess from 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M. At the end of the week, campers receive a T-shirt and chess set. All equipment provided.


Art Camp Ages 10-12 • Ms. Kelly Boothe Learn fun art drawing techniques like how to draw a flower, a bird, and other animals. Tie-dye your own shirt and use a variety of mediums to create your own masterpiece. Campers will also use natural materials to make paint brushes, berries to make paint, and leaves for chromatography. We will finish the week with an “in-person” and digital art gallery to display our artwork.

Coding with Silver Knights Enrichment Ages 10-12 • Silver Knights Enrichment Mazes and Monsters with Scratch: children learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by the MIT Media Lab. The curriculum teaches new coders the basics, while challenging experienced coders to create increasingly complex programs. Silver Knights provides a laptop for every child. The Game Design: Mazes and Monsters unit shows kids how to program their own maze games, platformers, and side-scrolling games. At the end of the week, each child receives a T-shirt and a USB with the programs they’ve made. Level up!
