BEGINNER DRAWING

Jeremy Durling | Artist, jeremydurling.com A carefully planned series of exercises will introduce the beginner to the following elements of observational drawing: perspective, composition, light values, and contour . Students will begin by learning how to accurately measure and observe objects and the world around us . Classes will include instructor demonstrations and exercises in contour drawing, tonal drawing, and gesture drawing with plenty of time to practice in class and receive feedback from the instructor .

CAN’T DRAW? WHO SAYS?

Ellen Stutman | Artist, ellenstutman.com Designed for the “drawing challenged,” this class will help you move past your inhibitions and teach you some basic techniques of drawing . We’ll focus on learning to really see and how to get that down on paper . The emphasis will be on the process and not the result in this nonjudgmental classroom environment .

Using photographic figure resources, instructor demonstrations, and some sessions with a live clothed model, we will create an understanding of basic drawing elements such as line, form, gesture, and composition .

METAMORPHIC DRAWING

Experiment with wet and dry media on paper while challenging form, shape, composition, and special relationships . Demonstrations, critiques, and virtual gallery visits bring your work to a more intriguing level . This class is designed for students that want to continue to refine their skills in the medium and refresh their understanding of concepts. The first half of this class focuses on drawing and moves into wet mediums of the students’ choice .

DIGITAL DRAWING WITH PROCREATE

Using an iPad, students will explore the award-winning app Procreate to make expressive drawings, colorful designs, and rich digital paintings . Through short assignments and exercises, students will be introduced to the software and will have the opportunity to build on their artistic interests as the class progresses . Comfort using an iPad and some drawing experience is preferred . WEEKLONG INTENSIVE

DRAWING THE LANDSCAPE IN COLOR

DRAWING AND PAINTING CAT AND DOG PORTRAITS

Eric Bornstein | M.L.A., Harvard, Artist Portrait drawing and painting enhances and supports deep seeing into another living being. This process bridges our differences and can create enhanced intimacy with non-human species . In this class, we will focus on painting and drawing portraits of special cats and dogs in our lives, so we will celebrate their faces and names to help tell their stories whether they are still with us or passed on . We will also create a Facebook group and have an online exhibit of our works .

SKETCHBOOK SERIES

While your surroundings may seem claustrophobic from being indoors during this time, that just means you might need a different point of view. PAINTING ABSTRACT ART: ALL LEVELS

Rachel DeLuca | Painter Abstract art covers a vast amount of different art making styles and strategies . This mixed-level class will help you focus in on the wide world of abstract painting and allow you to practice examining, discussing, and creating your own abstract artworks . Each class will introduce you to a particular style and you’ll also view famous historical or contemporary works . Classes will also cover basic acrylic techniques. There are many different ways to think of and paint an abstract picture, so this class will begin with exercises based around shape, color, and composition . More advanced students will be guided on independent projects .

Clare Asch | Artist In this online class, we will explore various painting methods from thin washes and glazes to thick impasto . Classes will include demonstrations with step-by-step instructions in the use of the various techniques, examples of artists who use these techniques, a lot of hands-on practice, and feedback from the instructor . We will also focus on color, line, shading, and composition while working from still life setups, landscapes, and abstractions . Participants can choose to use either oil paint or acrylic paint, and the supply lists will specify the materials needed for both .

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE

Collage is one of the most accessible and freeing artistic mediums . With a creative eye, nearly anything in your home can become a material for expression . In this class, we will look to collage artists throughout history and the world around us for inspiration . Kirsten Swartz | Artist Bullet journals are customizable agendas, calendars, to-do lists, and diaries for anyone interested in a creative outlet to practice mindfulness, organize your thoughts, and plan your time . This class will go through the basic symbols and yearly, monthly, and daily spreads to get you started, then move into trackers for habits, moods, birthdays, etc ., as well as more complex designs . Throughout the class we will cover some tools and art techniques you can use to embellish your journal such as calligraphy and hand lettering, pen and ink drawing, using color with colored pencils, watercolor pens, or watercolors, paper cutting, and collage . Learn how to track healthy habits, make new goals, and create a beautiful and functional journal that is customized for you .

In this course, we will learn multiple forms of creative activities for relaxation, dealing with emotions, and expressing gratitude . Exercises will focus on art and creativity as a process, rather than a finished product or the technical aspects of art . We will engage in multiple forms of creativity such as drawing, painting, collage, mandalas, and journaling . No art experience required .

MINDFULNESS AND INTUITIVE ART

Jhilam Sanyal | Artist Art as a mindfulness practice and the act of intuitively painting or drawing is a practice accessible to all regardless of art experience or skill . This class will introduce mindfulness practices utilizing art for stress relief, establishing a connection with your heart and innate creativity, and incorporating creative practice into your daily life . The class will focus on mindfulness and art as process rather than a finished product or the technical aspects of art. Activities will include guided meditations and instructor led exercises to aid the student in discovering their own, unique natural creativity . Students will also have the opportunity to use their own art supplies and experiment with mediums of their choice . No art experience required .

DRAWING WITH A KNIFE: PAPER CUT ART

Peter Zierlein | Artist, peterozierlein.com This class offers an introduction to the history and various regional styles of paper cutting . Students will learn about the tools and techniques involved in creating paper cut art, design with paper shapes in 2D and 3D, learn to differentiate the intricacies of symmetrical design, and to apply paper cut art in commercial and fine art contexts. In-class demonstrations and exercises will explore the applications of paper cut art for illustration, decoration, stenciling, light projection, and fine art.

STENCIL PRINTING
