Sunday, July 6, All Day The Freedom Festival salutes our troops with discounted admission at the Adventure Aquarium and the Battleship NJ during the festival. Active military and veterans will enjoy $10 entry to Adventure Aquarium. The Battleship NJ offers all active military, WWII veterans, and former USS NJ crewmembers free tours, and $15 tours for all other veterans.

SPECIAL EVENTS Antique Fire Apparatus Show August 3, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM The Cradle of Liberty Antique Fire Apparatus Association (CLAFAA) will be hosting a show featuring old and modern fire apparatus, antique ambulances, police vehicles and tow trucks. There will be fire apparatus from the 1700’s all the way up to today. There will also be a fire service related flea market, fire safety displays, activities for children and food and refreshments. Cooper River Cyclo-cross/CRCX Race October 12, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM Cooper River Cyclo-cross/CRCX is a form of bicycle racing that takes place mostly on grass with lots of turns and obstacles that force riders to dismount, carry the bike over barriers and up stairs, then remount as quickly as possible. The races are timed between 30-60 minutes and consist of multiple laps over a 1.6 mile course. The course is completely viewable from Park Boulevard so it’s great for spectating. Local vendors, including food trucks, will be on hand for food and refreshment. A kid’s race will take place around 12:00 noon so bring the whole family. There is a full range of categories including beginners, masters and professional for both men & women. USA Cycling license is required to participate. This is a rain or shine event. Park Clean Ups at Work

The Stewards of Open Space in Camden County is a volunteer program formed in 2010 to assist the county in its efforts to keep lands purchased through the county’s Open Space Preservation Trust Fund free of litter and illegally dumped waste. To date, more than 200 volunteers have signed up, helping to remove more than 50 tons of litter and debris from these lands. Forest Ecology Walk July 7, 6 PM Timber Creek Park The 60 acre park is located along the upper, tidal portion of the North Branch of the Big Timber Creek. The creek flows through a wide valley in this area and contains a mature hardwoods forest with large oaks, American beech and tulip poplar trees and tidal and forested wetlands. Take a walk with Camden County’s Environmental Educator through this county park. Summer Wildflowers Walk July 30, 6 PM Enviro Center Camden County’s Environmental Educator will lead a walk along Cooper River to learn about and how to identify the summer wildflowers. Moonlit Walks July 11, 8:30 PM - Full Thunder Moon September 8, 7:30 PM - Full Harvest Moon Enviro Center Meet under the full moon at Camden County’s Environmental Center for a gentle walk through the park. Cooper River Walk June 28, 10 AM Join South Jersey Land and Water Trust staff member Michael Hogan for a guided tour of the upper Cooper River Park and the Camden County Parks Environmental Center, on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00 AM. Cooper River Park is a 350+ acre Camden County park along the Cooper River. Meet at and tour the Camden County Parks Environmental Center. The center is a Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building that features a green roof, a rainwater collection tank and rain gardens. Walk the trails along Cooper River, around Evans Pond and the 80 acre Croft Farm. We will see a large variety of birds as well as native and non-native plants along the way. Michael will identify the area’s flora and fauna and discuss SJLWT projects in South Jersey including its partnership projects with Camden County and the NJ Invasive Species Strike Team. The trail may be muddy, please wear appropriate foot wear. Bring your camera and binoculars. Free for SJLWT members. $3 a person for non SJLWT members. Challenge Grove Park & Special Needs Programming Camden County’s beautiful Challenge Grove Park is home to a variety of amenities, all fully accessible, to serve our residents. It features Jake’s Place Playground, walking & bike paths, picnic areas, a pavilion, a basketball court, a softball field and more. Last spring the Board of Freeholders opened Boundless Field, a baseball field that provides an opportunity for children with disabilities to play baseball, and other organized sports, on a playing surface that can accommodate their special needs. The Challenger League of Cherry Hill and Camden County Miracle League both play baseball on the new specially designed field. Challenge Grove Park will also host the first-ever outdoor wheelchair basketball tournament and playdates for children ten and under later this year. There are many more activities planned this year for our residents with special needs. Check out our nature walks held throughout the county parks system, arts and crafts classes, dances, special camps, adaptive rowing clinics, therapeutic horseback riding lessons, exercise classes, golf lessons, dance lessons, performing arts choir, special needs bike clinics and much more.
