To help ensure that each of the day opportunity day services (allotment, café & studio) offers a suitable, effective environment for the people we support, one which is safe, stimulating and welcoming to all.

37.5 hours per week, across 5 days; between the hours of 8am5pm Monday-Saturday

Salary:

£18,915 per peryear year £21,547

About the charity: Camphill Village Trust is an award-winning national charity supporting people with learning and other disabilities. We provide housing, care, support and day opportunities to people with learning and other difficulties. We support people to be safe, healthy, happy and to be active citizens living a life of opportunity About St Albans community and the service: St Albans Community is an urban location, home to 50 adults with a range of disabilities. A fully comprehensive support package includes the choice of activities in our workshops where skills are developed and friendships forged. St Albans Community is made up of a mixture of house and flats, around the town. It offers support with accommodation to adults with learning disabilities, as well as offering day placements to local people. The accommodation ranges from independent flats to shared houses of between 3 and 10 people. St Albans has three day opportunities day services, the café, the allotment and the studio. The allotment enables the people we support to access a community-based project which is focused on therapeutic needs and provides a level of interaction determined by the individuals need. The Studio in Adelaide Street St Albans aims to support residents with a personcentred approach to enable them to meet personal goals and aspirations within The Studio setting. Helping to support the Studio Manager you will demonstrate, promote and supervise the safe use of artistic techniques, tools and equipment, encouraging the attendees to develop their creativity and ideas into useful projects, recording their development and celebrating success. The Café on the Corner takes pride in providing quality, home cooked food at affordable prices. This includes homemade cakes, savoury dishes and salads. Partnership working with our colleagues in Delrow community and the twice weekly local markets ensure we utilise the best of local provision.


Duties and Responsibilities: •

You will support the Team Leader at our new day opportunity provision in the form of an allotment project. You will help develop the allotment, through effective planning, utilising and developing existing skills, generation of creative ideas and being able to do so using a person-centred approach.

In the studio, you will take part in planning and allocating tasks daily according to the needs and abilities of the residents.

Always working within the confines of Health & Safety to be aware of the Studio environment and bring to the attention of your manager and issues of safety which should be addressed or reviewed (this might be in the form of risk assessments).

You will support with paperwork, ad hoc projects and liaison with internal and external staff, professionals and other stakeholders with the dire ction of the Workshop Manager.

Working alongside our Café Manager and Café Assistant you will be involved in helping those we support to develop themselves to reach their maximum potential as individuals and encourage their aspirations within a Café environment to ensure they enjoy and take pride in their time at the Cafe. You will always be required to adhere to Health and Safety regulations in the café and promote a safe, clean working environment, bringing to light any issues or challenges to safe working practic e. The use of equipment should only be done under supervision and always with safety in mind. Working as part of the Café team you will be able to creatively identify areas and effectively plan activities that are relevant to the skill level, knowledge and ability of those we support. In this role you will serve customers, prepare foods/menu items, handle cash and take part in cleaning and stock rotation. You will also assist with deliveries, updating stock and helping decorate the Café for events/launches and other activities (such as staff meetings, seasonal changes and ensuring an inviting creative window presence).

Person Specification •

You will have some experience of working with vulnerable people, ideally with adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.

A common-sense approach, fun but mature attitude and approachability are key.

You will be able to understand issues from others’ viewpoints and builds an atmosphere of trust and openness so that others are treated with respect and dignity without discriminating or stereotyping.

You will tailor your approach depending on who you are with and act as an advocate for people.

A clean driving licence is desirable
