Deputy Manager – Ashfield House, Residential Care Home

Purpose:

Organise and deliver high quality support/care to the residents and fulfil their potential for independence, choice, inclusion, and control on a daily basis in accordance with CQC regulations and standards.

Camphill Village Trust is a registered charity formed of ten communities/services across England, offering opportunities for people with learning disabilities, mental ill health and other additional/complex needs to live, learn and work with others of all abilities, in an atmosphere of mutual care and respect inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner (anthroposophy). Main responsibilities: 1. When required, plan and organise the delivery of support and care by your team on each shift, ensuring that there are up-to-date person centred needs assessments, support plans and risk assessments in place that are regularly reviewed; safeguards, accidents & incidents, complaints, are recorded, medication is administered and recorded appropriately and there are adequate records and rotas in place to evidence the provision of support and care in accordance with contractual and regulatory expectations. 2. Ensure that the residents have identified key workers and receive support and care in accordance with their person centred needs assessments, support plans and risk assessments to foster their wellbeing and development and fulfil their potential for independence, choice, inclusion and control by, for example, supporting residents to: o encourage and support the residents to maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming living environment o where appropriate support the residents to do their own laundry and look after their clothing so they have suitable and clean clothing to wear. o plan, shop and prepare healthy, balanced and nutritious meals alongside the residents, taking into account their choices and wishes.

o support the residents to maintain health and well-being by assisting them to arrange and attend medical appointments including, annual health checks, chiropody, dentist and optician. o support and encourage residents to maintain an active and supportive social life, taking into account individual choices and wishes. o access training, education, meaningful day/evening activities and community resources. o maintain family contact and are supported to be part of the community. 3. Where appropriate provide support to the residents for budgeting and financial training including support to access benefits. 4. If required, assist residents with personal care where required (eg. bathing, hair washing, toileting etc). 5. Facilitate the applications and reviews of DoLS and MCA assessments with the necessary supervisory bodies. 6. Liaise professionally with residents’ parents, social workers, CPN’s and other professionals to make sure that the network of support around each resident is functioning effectively. 7. Ensuring that new members of staff are inducted into the service and that they are provided with the support needed to complete the Care Certificate where relevant. 8. Ensure that staff/agency workers are familiar with residents’ care plans and routines. 9. Support and guide Support Workers to provide a high quality of care, making sure annual training is kept up to date, supervision is held and recorded quarterly as well as an annual review. 10. In the absence of a TL or designated shift lead, ensure that there is a full handover at the beginning of each shift. 11. In the event of Support Staff or Team Leader absence where shift cover has not been obtained elsewhere, you may be required to undertake such cover in lieu of office administration tasks. 12. Debriefs are held after incidents, Trust briefings, new initiatives are communicated to the team via regular team meetings, communication book and email. 13. Work within the organisations’ policies and procedures, vision and mission statement, CQC key lines of enquiry and actively promote the equality, diversity and the human rights of each resident. 14. Undertake personal/professional development and training to develop an understanding of our philosophy and values and how these inform and guide practice in the key responsibilities of the role. 15. Maintain all health and safety with the home and report any potential hazards immediately, undertaking regular quality audits including medication, COSHH, personal finances. 2


16. Supervise the activity of any staff or contractors working in or around the properties (eg. cleaners, maintenance men, gardeners, etc). 17. Support in planning the cover for staff absences and using Access People Planner rostering system to ensure rota cover and payroll is correct. 18. Undertake monthly and annual internal reviews for people we support and liaise with external professionals to facilitate annual funding/care package reviews. 19. When requested, to take on the role and responsibilities of the Registered Manager in their absence. 20. Undertake such other tasks as required by the Registered/General Manager to help develop and maintain the high quality of service required. Person specification Experience At least three years previous experience of working within a care or support setting, ideally with adults with additional/complex needs, with at least one year at a more senior level. Previous experience of working in anthroposophical organisations providing social care is desirable but not essential Qualifications Reasonable general education (evidence of numeracy and literacy). Minimum Level 3 Diploma (or working towards), preferred Level 5 in Health and Social care, or equivalent. Skills and knowledge Working knowledge of person-centred support, positive behaviour approaches and care planning, needs and risk assessment, safeguarding protocols, first line supervision, health and safety, MCA and DoLS and equalities and human rights essential. A sound understanding of the Care Quality Commission regulations and standards, key lines of enquiry and notifications. Employment terms: •

The appointment is subject to a six-month review period, which may be subject to extension. To successfully complete your review period you will be expected, amongst other aspects of your job, to be able to evidence you are able to apply your learning, training and skills to support people through person centred thinking and planning, using people’s preferred method of communication and are focussed on providing outcomes for people we support that promotes increased choice and control.

Working hours – 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Sunday

If required, this post is expected to take part in an on-call rota

People’s Pension is our pension provider. We make a contribution at the statutory rates if you have been auto-enrolled.

Holiday entitlement is 6.6 weeks (including public holidays).

Sick pay entitlement is 4 weeks after one month, increasing to 8 weeks after 3 years, 12 weeks after 5 years.

Notice – four weeks.
