As a celebrated tattoo artist and piercer, Joyce has garnered acclaim for her unique style and artistic vision. 1. Journey: i was always drawing as a kid and after finding some tattoo magazines at my dad´s place i knew i wanted to become a tattoo artist. It always looked so unapproachable for me , especially back then when there were not to many woman in the industry.

Regartless i started making tattoo designs for friends and created a portfolio with all my drawings . In 2013 i got an apprenticeship in the first studio i walked into where i stayed for 2 years before opening my own studio " trash tattoo"

2. Style: a lot of people consider my style as trash polka but i think i am more structured, less chaotic then the usual trash polka so mostly i tell people i do abstract realism or some would say you could tell me work is a "trashcore". When i started tattooing i wanted to bring back the essence of art. The sketch or brushstrokes that build a final artpiece are all one by one important so i like to experiment with this. Using brushes and other materials directly on the skin to get a more raw feeling. Most important to me would be that my works brings out an emotion. It´s bot just an image, it´s a feeling my client has or had transferred to skin trough my eyes in collaboration with the client. I like it a lot that every tattoo i make brings up a different emotion or memory for everybody that sees it.

3.milestone: i guess the most memorable milestone in my career would be winning Inkmaster 2018 of the low lands. Basicly it´s the same as the usa version but only with Belgium and Netherland artists. Djoels the winner of the first season gave me up for season 2 as i was too chicken to write them. It was a really nice experience and off course the price was a big bonus but for me this lead to me being able to focus on my own style as i was looking for some validation because it was hard back then to decline some projects and thus make progress. I hate using the inkmaster name these days cause i´m nothing more or different then any other artist but i think i could still be proud of this.

4.rewarding: being a tattoo artist has always been my dream job and there is nothing more rewarding as the trust an connection you build with your clients. The amouth of faith given to you to put an everlasting image/feeling/ memory on someone body is amazing . It´s not always been a joy ride though as when you start it´s a lot of hard work but it paid off. After covid though i came to realise that lots of artists get burned out and i found that lots of us lose the essence of why they wanted to become a tattoo artist during the years. Making art becomes a job , always for a client of with the intent to tattoo or use in the industry. Creativity for yourself is rare . These days i take time of every month to do creative things for myself and to take care of my mental health. It´s one of the best advice i have to give. Take time for yourself and your mental health .

5.goals: i always dreamed on doing an American tattoo tour but first i´ll need to get a green card settled haha ..also i hope one day to participate at the gods of ink tattooconvention but besides this my main focus is to grow and never stop learning. I always say there is no limit and always room for improvement. Let´s see what the future my hold for me .
