I think getting tattooed for me is more of a mental drive. I get these pieces to remind me of the life I have lived. I love that I can look at my skin and remember why I got each tattoo

Tell us a little bit about Genie:

I am a extrovert I love to be around people, I love dancing, being outside, wake surfing, dirt biking, anything that includes the outdoors count me in. I'm a travel girl I want to see the world! (I’ve been to over 12 countries already!) I love my dogs (both pitbulls aka pibbles) I am a Carby girl living in a Carby world haha

What was your first tattoo and what made you decide to get it?

My first tattoo was the snakes in a heart on my shoulder, I got it as a reminder. Not everything you see is as it seems. Snakes in love. Irony.

Which tattoo means the most to you and why?

I would say my most meaningful tattoo would be the butterfly on the back of my leg. I lost my mother in 2021 to suicide and it was a memorial piece for her.

PRIMUS

When I was a teenager, m metal-head friends were listening to thrash and death metal - genres I also enjoyed, but I was always looking for something new, something creative bordering on bizarre. At one point I came acres a band that just blew my mind and inspired me to learn to play bass. Ladies and gentlemen, lets dive into a weird and wonderful world of Primus.

Primus is a groundbreaking and genredefying alternative rock band from San Francisco, California, that has been captivating listeners with its distinctive sound since 1989 Comprised of bassist/singer Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, and drummer Tim Alexander, this group has continually pushed the boundaries of rock with its groundbreaking sound. The band’s frenetic energy, precise playing, and often off-kilter songwriting has created a distinctive and unique style that has become recognized as Primus’ signature.

Primus’ signature sound blossomed in the early 1990s with the release of such albums as Frizzle Fry, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, Tales From The Punchbowl, and Antipop These albums, released in the heyday of grunge, contained a completely different type of music than what was popular at the time – yet the combination of Claypool’s thick, funky bass, LaLonde’s darting electric guitar, and Alexander’s explosive drumming earned them a loyal following of fans With each release, fans have eagerly consumed the full-on madcap chaos that was Primus and their music has steadily gained more and more mainstream attention and success

In 2003, the band released its first studio album in more than five years, aptly titled “Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People”. This album offers hilarious commentary on modern living, with songs like “The Heckler” and “The Chastising of Renegade” continuing to prove why Primus is one of the most unique and innovative groups of our time.

The band has also toured extensively – they shared the stage with such varied musical acts as Minutemen, Cro-Mags, Sleep, Incubus, and even country music legend Willie Nelson.

Seeing Primus live is on my bucket list – they live performances are a real spectacle. Each gig is an unpredictable mixture of chaos and music. The band’s often-humorous stage banter and outrageous antics often leave audiences screaming for more. Claypool is also known for playing a unique combination of upright bass, electric, and drums –along with his always-entertaining vocals – to create a sonic landscape which is constantly changing and evolving.

Primus proves why they are still a force to be reckoned with after a few decades in the industry. There is truly no other band like Primus, and rock fans around the globe can thank the band for providing them with a little chaos amidst the monotony of daily life.

MUDVAYNE

I early 2000’s nu metal was on the rise and I got swept by the wave. But rather than go with the “radio-hits” (well, of course I was listening to KoRn, Limp Bizkit and the likes) I was trying to find something challenging within the genre. And I found it in the form of “math metal” pioneers Mudvayne. They were combining elements of nu metal, progressive metal, thrash metal, and alternative metal to shape their unique sound. Hailing from Peoria, Illinois the quartet has achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success over the years, thanks to their uncompromising commitment to forwardthinking music and innovative music videos.

Mudvayne quickly gained a fervent fan base with the release of their 2000’s album, LD50, opened ears to a wholly unique and genre-bending sound. This essential metal record was highly praised by music critics for bringing new life to heavy music The album adopted a penchant for technical riffing and dissonant composition more akin to progressive metal than nu metal, and was fused with melody and innovative rhythms unheard of in the genre. Across tracks such as “Pharmaecopia” and “Internal Primates Forever”, the band blended technicality and aggression, and took their sound to a new level of extremity

In 2002 Mudvayne released their follow up album The End of All Things to Come This album has basically everything - from catchy radio-friendly hooks, such as “Not Falling”, to progressive guitar and drum assaults such as “Choose Your Path”. This album was awarded two Grammy nominations, solidifying Mudvayne’s place as one of the most talented metal bands of their time.

On their third album “Lost and Found”

Mudvayne returned to their signature aggressive sound, combining elements of hard rock and nu metal to create an uncompromising album that further cemented the group’s status as metal trailblazers. On this album, tracks such as “Determined” and “Happy?” featured pounding riffs and neck-breaking breakdowns that would make the metalheads of the world proud

In 2006, Mudvayne managed to present yet another daring musical piece “The New Game” was commercial success and earned the band another Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance

After that Mudvayne recorder and releases a self-titled album in 2009. The album, printed with blacklight paint, was only visible under a black light

In 2010 the band went on a long lasting hiatus Chad Gray, the lead singer, together with Greg Tribbett were members of a successful supergroup Hellyeah!, and Ryan Martinie – who, in my opinion, next to Les Claypool of Primus, is one of the most inspirational bass players – had his own projects. After 11 years, in 2021 the band reformed and started playing gigs and festivals Hopefully, they will record a new music soon – I would be the first on to dive into it!
