DO YOU LIKE VISITING OR EXHIBITING AT TATTOO CONVENTIONS? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ANY OF THEM?

- I RATHER AVOID TATTOO CONVENTIONS, PREFERRING TO WORK IN THE PRIVACY OF MY ONE-MAN STUDIO. IN THE LAST 6 YEARS I HAVE EXHIBITED TWICE – ONCE IN KATOWICE, WHERE I LIVE AND WORK, AND ONCE IN KRAKOW. AS A VISITOR I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL OTHER EVENTS, MAINLY AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS WITH WHOM I AM NOT IN TOUCH ON A DAILY BASIS.

ANY ARTIST YOU PLANNING TO GET TATTOOED BY? WHO HAS TATTOOED YOU ALREADY?

- I OFTEN FORGET THAT IT WOULD BE FUN TO GET A NEW TATTOO. I USUALLY REMEMBER IT ONCE EVERY 1.5-2 YEARS AND THEN I DO 3-4 NEW TATTOOS SOMETIMES. I APPROACH IT QUITE SPONTANEOUSLY AND HAVE NO SERIOUS PLANS. I WEAR DESIGNS FROM THE ENTIRE PAJĘCZYNA STUDIO – FROM BARTEK WOJDA, MARCELINA URBAŃSKA, MATEUSZ WLK WOLSKI AND ŁUKASZ SOKOŁOWSKI. BESIDES, I WAS TATTOOED BY MARCIN SUROWIEC, SŁAWEK NITSCHKE, YADOU, MONIKA MALEWSKA, OLIWIA DASZKIEWICZ, ROBERT BORBAS AKA GRINDESIGN, LIPA, MARIUSZ TRUBISZ, CRAZY LESSI, KRIS CIEŹLIK, MARTIN JAHN AND BARBE ROUSSE. HOWEVER, MY FAVORITE TATTOO WAS MADE BY JAKUB MOKRZYSIAK.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TATTOOING AND HOW DID YOU START YOUR TATTOOING JOURNEY?

- ONE DAY, ABOUT 9 YEARS AGO, WHEN I WAS STILL STUDYING GRAPHIC DESIGN AT THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN KATOWICE, MARCIN SUROWIEC CALLED ME. IT TURNED OUT THAT A FRIEND OF MINE, WHO WAS TATTOOED BY HIM AT THE TIME, SHOWED HIM MY PORTFOLIO OF ILLUSTRATIONS ON THE WEB. ALTHOUGH WE DIDN’T KNOW EACH OTHER, MARCIN ASKED ME A QUESTION THAT RADICALLY INFLUENCED MY FURTHER LIFE. HE ASKED ME STRAIGHT OUT IF I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN TO TATTOO. I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT TATTOOS AT THE TIME, BUT I AGREED (OUT OF PURE CURIOSITY) AND SOON I WENT TO HIS STUDIO TO SHOW HIM MY OTHER DRAWINGS. MARCIN WAS THE FIRST TO SHOW ME THE WORLD OF TATTOOING AS I SEE IT TODAY – AS A FULL-FLEDGED FIELD OF ART AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION, WHICH PREVIOUSLY I ASSOCIATED ONLY WITH HIDEOUS, RETARDED TRIBALS, DEMONS AND SKULLS. IT WAS THEN THAT I BEGAN TO DISCOVER THE FIRST NAMES OF ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND REALIZED HOW DIVERSE THE SUBJECT OF PERMANENT DRAWING ON HUMAN SKIN CAN BE APPROACHED. DURING THE FIRST YEAR, I DEEPENED MY THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, ANALYZED WORKS OF NEWLY MET TATTOOISTS AND SOMETIMES WATCHED MARCIN AT WORK. ABOUT ONCE A MONTH I HAD A CHANCE TO TATTOO ONE OF MY FRIENDS. IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY LEARNING THIS CRAFT. AFTER THE FIRST YEAR OF SUCH PREPARATION, I WORKED FOR SOME TIME IN ROCK’N’INK STUDIO IN KRAKOW AND THEN I STARTED TATTOOING IN MY OWN STUDIO IN KATOWICE. THEN I REALIZED THAT TATTOOING CAN BE MY PROFESSION AND WAY OF LIFE.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AND DREAMS? IF YOU THINK ABOUT YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS, WHAT DO YOU SEE?

-I DON’T REALLY LOOK THAT FAR AHEAD IN TERMS OF PLANS. I HOPE THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP BOTH OF MY PROJECTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I FEEL THAT MY EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITIES HAVE AN INCREASINGLY STRONG INFLUENCE ON MY TATTOOING. I HOPE THAT MAYBE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS I WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE, IN THE FORM OF TATTOOS, A LARGER NUMBER OF BOLDER ABSTRACT DESIGNS. BUT RATHER, I LET THINGS UNFOLD BY THEMSELVES AT THEIR OWN PACE. EVERYTHING IN GOOD TIME.

PLEASE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT TATTOO STYLE AND HOW IT HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS. - I SPENT MOST OF THE YEARS LEARNING THE TECHNIQUE, EXPERIMENTING WITH ALL STYLES AND DOING A LOT OF COMMERCIAL STYLES (LETTERING AND SYMBOLS) BUT LATELY I FEEL VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE COLORFUL NEO-TRADITIONAL STYLE, I LOVE BRIGHT COLORS AND I ALWAYS TRY TO PROPOSE THEM TO PEOPLE WHO GET TATTOOED BY ME.

DOES ANYONE OR ANYTHING INSPIRE YOU?

- I AM VERY INSPIRED BY THE WORLD OF ART NOUVEAU AND GRAFFITI, WHICH IS WHY I ALWAYS TRY TO INDULGE IN TRIPS THAT CAN LEAD ME TO VISIT PLACES FULL OF MUSEUMS.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TATTOOING AND HOW DID YOU START YOUR TATTOOING JOURNEY?

- I HAVE BEEN TATTOOING FOR 7 YEARS, I STARTED BY CHANCE (LIKE ALL THE THINGS I HAVE DONE IN MY LIFE) AS A SELF-TAUGHT, TRYING A MACHINE ON THE POOR ANKLE OF A FRIEND…I LET YOU IMAGINE THE REST. AFTER WHICH I WENT TO ASK FOR A TEST AT A WELL-KNOWN TATTOO ARTIST IN MY AREA.

I SHOWED HIM MY DRAWINGS AND THE NEXT DAY I STARTED!

IS THERE ANY ART FORM THAT FASCINATES YOU ALSO EXCEPT TATTOOING? MAYBE DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PASSION OR SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY DOING?

- AS I SAID, I LOVE ART NOUVEAU, ESPECIALLY THAT OF MUCHA AND KLIMT BUT I AM ALSO VERY FASCINATED BY STREET ART AND CINEMA IN GENERAL.

ANOTHER STRONG PASSION IN THE PAST WAS SPORT, EVEN IF AS AN AGONIST I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECONCILE IT WITH THE LIFE OF THE TATTOO ARTIST (MORE DEMANDING THAN IT SEEMS FROM THE OUTSIDE). AT THE MOMENT TATTOOING IS THE PASSION THAT GIVES ME THE GREATEST GRATIFICATION!

DO YOU LIKE VISITING OR EXHIBITING AT TATTOO CONVENTIONS? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ANY OF THEM?

- I LOVE TO VISIT AND GET TATTOOED IN CONVENTIONS! I PARTICIPATED AS A TATTOO ARTIST IN MY FIRST TWO IN 2019 AND I WANTED TO CONTINUE ATTENDING OTHERS BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC HAS STOPPED THEM. IN ITALY THERE ARE MANY BEAUTIFUL CONVENTIONS BUT MY FAVORITES ALWAYS REMAIN: FLORENCE, MILAN AND ROME.

ANY ARTIST YOU PLANNING TO GET TATTOOED BY? WHO HAS TATTOOED YOU ALREADY?

- OBVIOUSLY I HAVE TATTOOS BY MANY ARTISTS ON MY SKIN, INCLUDING: DEBORA CHERRYS, ELIA LEONARDI, ALEX PINNA, GIULIA BONGIOVANNI, GEN. EVEN IF SOME OF THE FAVORITE TATTOOS I CARRY WITH ME WERE MADE BY THE TATTOO ARTISTS I WORK WITH EVERY DAY (DUCCIO BRINATI, JOVA RANDAZ, TOMMIGIOVA).

I HAVE THE PLAN TO GO TO SPAIN TO GET TATTOOED BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY ARTISTS TO WHOM I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SOME OF MY SKIN!

PLEASE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT TATTOO STYLE AND HOW IT HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS.

- WHEN I STARTED TATTOOING I WAS DOING EVERYTHING AND PUSHING ME TO DO ANY STYLE OR KIND OF WORK. IT WAS AN IMPORTANT PERIOD TO DEVELOP MYSELF BUT THEN I FOCUSED ONLY ON REALISM. I THINK THAT BECAUSE IT WAS ALSO THE STYLE THAT I LIKED THE MOST IN DRAWING AND PAINTING AND ALSO TECHNICALLY SPEAKING IT WAS HARDER TO ARCHIVE. THAT’S WHAT FASCINATED ME. THE SAME HAPPENED IN THE TATTOO. ALTHOUGH AFTER TATTOOING REALISM FOR SOME YEARS I GOT TO A POINT THAT IT LOOKED LIKE I COULDN’T FEEL FREE ANYMORE… IT WAS JUST THAT… TO LOOK FOR A PICTURE FROM THE INTERNET, STENCIL IT, AND DOING IT THE MOST REALISTIC WAY POSSIBLE… EVEN THOUGH I LOVE REALISM, I STARTED TO FEEL EMPTY, AS IF I WAS JUST A PRINTING PRESS, AND THEN I KNEW THAT I HAD TO CREATE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SOMETHING MORE UNIQUE AND MINE. SO AFTER TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE CUTTING, SPLITTING, VECTORIZING I STARTED LOOKING FOR COMPOSITIONS WHERE I COULD CAPTURE DIFFERENT MOMENTS AT THE SAME TIME. CONTRASTS BETWEEN COLORS AND GRAYS, MIXING GRAPHIC ELEMENTS AND PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER BUT IN SPLIT PARTS. THEN I STARTED TO REALIZE THAT THIS KIND OF “NO FLOW” STYLE THAT I CREATED FROM THESE SPLITTINGS AND CUTS THAT I USE IN MY COMPOSITIONS COULD CREATE A “FLOW” IF THEY END UP BALANCED AND WITH HIGH CONTRAST. THE FIRST WORK THAT I DID THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING WAS A SIMPLE PORTRAIT OF A MOTHER AND A FATHER. I SPLIT THE BOOTH IN HALVES AND COMBINED THEM TOGETHER AND AT THE END OF THE WORK WHEN I LOOKED AT IT, IT ALL MADE SENSE TO ME.

DO YOU LIKE VISITING OR EXHIBITING AT TATTOO CONVENTIONS? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ANY OF THEM?

- I YES, OF COURSE. I PARTICIPATE IN CONVENTIONS EVERY YEAR AND IT’S SOMETHING I AM PLANNING ON CONTINUING TO DO. IT’S SOMETHING THAT I REALLY LIKE TO BE PART OF. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE LONDON TATTOO CONVENTION, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY ENDS UP, ALSO THE MONDIAL DU TATOUAGE IN PARIS, STOCKHOLM INK BASH IN STOCKHOLM, AND VENICE TATTOO CONVENTION.

ANY ARTIST YOU PLANNING TO GET TATTOOED BY? WHO HAS TATTOOED YOU ALREADY?

- MY TATTOOS ARE MAINLY FROM DMITRIY SAMOHIN BUT I ALSO PLAN TO BE TATTOOED BY OTHER GREAT ARTISTS THAT I LIKE SUCH AS ROBERT HERNANDEZ, DOMANTAS PARVAINIS, MASHKOW…

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TATTOOING AND HOW DID YOU START YOUR TATTOOING JOURNEY?

- I AM WORKING AS A PROFESSIONAL TATTOO ARTIST FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS, BUT MY FIRST CONTACT WITH THE WORLD OF THE TATTOO WAS 2 YEARS EARLIER. EVERYTHING STARTED JUST BY CURIOSITY FOR TRYING SOMETHING DIFFERENT BESIDES JUST PAINTING WITH THE “REGULAR WAYS”, IN THE TRADITIONAL CANVAS. DO TATTOO IS DIFFERENT IN EVERY WAY AND THAT IS WHAT CAPTURED MY ATTENTION AT SOME POINT, A NEW CHALLENGE. SO I BOUGHT A CHEAP TATTOO KIT FROM CHINA AND STARTED TO TRY USING IT ON SOME FRIENDS… HAVING SOME CRAZY FRIENDS HELPED ME A LOT AT THAT POINT!

PLEASE, TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT TATTOO STYLE AND HOW IT HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS.

- ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER MY FIRST TATTOO, I WAS BORED AND FRUSTRATED (I STARTED DOING REALISM IN BLACK AND GREY). AT THIS TIME I DISCOVERED “NEO-TRADITIONAL STYLE”. TATTOOS BY OTHER ARTISTS… AND I WAS IN LOVE! I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PERFECT STYLE TO MIX BETWEEN DIFFERENT STYLES AND CREATE MY OWN STYLE WITHOUT COPYING REALITY.

THE MOST DIFFICULT IN THIS STYLE IS THE PERFECT TECHNIQUE FROM THE OLD SCHOOL (PERFECT LINES AND SOLID COLORS) AND OF COURSE, CREATE A NEW AND ORIGINAL DESIGN EVERY DAY. THAT’S THE HARDEST PART OF THIS STYLE. AND OF COURSE, MY STYLE CHANGED WITH THE YEARS. AND STILL DO IT!!! BUT I THINK THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. EVERY DAY, EVERY YEAR, I AM INSPIRED BY MANY THINGS (OTHER TATTOO ARTISTS, ART IN GENERAL, MUSIC, CINEMA, NATURE, BEAUTIFUL PLACES…) AND MY DESIGNS CHANGE WITH ME. BUT IN THE TATTOO, THE PRINCIPAL CHANGE IS TRYING TO DO SOLID AND DURABLE TATTOOS, TO GUARANTEE THE QUALITY.

DO YOU LIKE VISITING OR EXHIBITING AT TATTOO CONVENTIONS? WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ANY OF THEM?

- LIKE TATTOO ARTISTS, I PREFER EXHIBITING AT TATTOO CONVENTIONS. I ENJOY SO MUCH BEING THERE WITH ARTISTS WHO ADMIRE, MEETING PEOPLE, SEEING FRIENDS, AND OF COURSE LEARNING AND SHARING GREAT MOMENTS. I THINK THE TATTOO CONVENTIONS ARE AMAZING SHOWS TO EVERYBODY. THERE ARE CONCERTS, ART EXPOSITIONS, CONTESTS AND YOU CAN SEE THE BEST ARTISTS AROUND THE WORLD WORKING THERE (ALSO YOU CAN GET A NEW TATTOO OR BUY SOME MERCHANDISE OR PRINTS).

ANY ARTIST YOU PLANNING TO GET TATTOOED BY? WHO HAS TATTOOED YOU ALREADY?

- I COULDN’T WAIT TO FINISH MY CHEST PIECE DONE BY JEAN LE ROUX. HE LIVES IN LONDON AND WE START THIS PROJECT AT THE END OF 2019. WE WOULD LIKE TO FINISH IT IN 2020 BUT THE COVID APPEARS AND WE SHOULD CANCEL ALL THE APPOINTMENTS… AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE TATTOOED BY JUSTIN HARTMAN, PRIMM, EMILY ROSE, OR SAM CLARK. I HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE ON MY SHINBONE BOOKED FOR THAT.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TATTOOING AND HOW DID YOU START YOUR TATTOOING JOURNEY?

- IT WAS ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO. I WAS AN INTERIOR DESIGNER AFTER I STUDIED ARTS AT THE UNIVERSITY, BUT WHEN I MET ADRI (MY HUSBAND) HE THOUGHT I NEEDED A CHANGE AND HE TAUGHT ME HOW TO TATTOO. HONESTLY, I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE A TATTOO ARTIST! I ALWAYS SAY IT WAS DESTINY.

IS THERE ANY ART FORM THAT FASCINATES YOU ALSO EXCEPT TATTOOING? MAYBE DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PASSION OR SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY DOING?

- I LOVE TO PAINT AND I REALLY LIKE THE ART OF SOME GREATEST ARTISTS LIKE DA VINCI, MIGUEL ÁNGEL, GOYA, CARAVAGGIO… (I COULD SPEND HUNDREDS OF HOURS SEEING THEM PAINTED). AND WHEN I HAVE STUDIED ARTS I DISCOVER FEMINIST ART AND MANY TALENTED WOMEN ARTIST; THAT PERIOD CHANGES MY LIFE AND MY MIND. I REALLY LOVE CINEMA TOO, HORROR MOVIES ARE MY FAVORITE! AND ON MY DAYS OFF I PLAY PADEL AND PRACTICE YOGA.
