Proper implementation of solid waste management remains a top agenda for the local government unit of Placer in Surigao del Norte despite an ongoing pandemic. Municipal Mayor Jovymarie Villazon said she remains committed to enforcing the mandates of the Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and hopes to make Placer as one of the competitive municipalities to implement proper segregation. “As of now, the LGU is equipped with alternative technology in terms of machineries for waste diversion program,” she disclosed during her interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Martin Andanar on Wednesday, July 28, for the Network Briefing News. “We have available bio waste fertilizer maker, soil enhancer, multi-purpose shredder for plastic and glass pulverizer, and plastic melter for the final production of the shredded plastics,” the
mayor added. Meanwhile, the local chief executive also highlighted the diversion program to create an eco-park as part of their tourist destinations. “Some people from other places have already visited the place for pictures and hangout [spot] with friends. The LGU plans to develop an area using recyclable materials for the purpose of educational information,” Mayor Villazon said. (DMNR/PIACaraga) July 24-30, 2021 |
