A MESSAGE FROM THE 24 WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE TH

DIRECTOR OF PROGRAM

Life changing! Unbelievable! Extraordinary! The 24th World Scout Jamboree is going to be the most amazing Scouting event ever! With 45,000 Scouts, their leaders, and the IST from 167 countries convening at the Summit Bechtel Reserve this summer, we are going to have a truly memorable party. We in the Program Pillar are the ones who make the fun come alive! Scouts will connect with the world in thousands of new ways through the amazing technology and happenings of Connected Experience, and they will soak in all the fun and excitement of Mt. Jack and our spectacular Adventure areas. New ideas and learning will be unlocked throughout Centro Mondial, the Global Development Village, and World Point, while inspiration and unity will shine at our Stadium Shows. We can’t wait! One key role we have is to help everyone unlock something new through their Program experience. Please be the WSJ’s ambassadors and wonderful hosts for all our our guests, whether visitors, participants, or fellow IST members. The work we do in Program will kindle memories that will last a lifetime. Lastly, thank you. Working with each of you to deliver the promise and make the dream a reality is a true honor I will cherish for the rest of my life. Let the adventure begin!

Yours in Scouting,

SUMMIT STORIES INITIATIVE LOCATION: THOMAS G. PIGOTT DINING HALL Summit Stories is an exciting new program at the 24th World Jamboree that gives ordinary Scouts from around the world the ability to tell the story of how Scouting has impacted their life as it relates to one of four daily themes: Gender Equity; Multiculturalism; Leadership; and the Value of Scouting. Each speaker will tell their story in front of an audience of approximately 300 Jamboree participants, staff, and guests, and it will be livestreamed to the different base camps around the Summit Bechtel Reserve, and to Scouts around the world via social media and Jamboree LiveStream channels. Each story will also be recorded and posted online for viewing after the Jamboree. Stories that aren’t included in the live program may be broadcast to the Jamboree and Scouts worldwide via social media channels during and after the Jamboree. Participants will hear stories told by notable visitors to the Jamboree and by Scouts and Scouters who have distinguished themselves, either in Scouting or in their chosen field. Those listening to the stories as participants will take part in guided group discussion led by a Summit Stories staff member between stories to give all participants an opportunity to discuss the lessons offered by the speakers and how to put those lessons into action in their own lives. Summit Stories will take place on four different days over the course of the 24th World Scout Jamboree: Wednesday July 24 (Gender Equity), Thursday July 25 (Multiculturalism), Wednesday July 31 (Leadership) and Thursday August 1 (Value of Scouting). All stories will be presented in the Pigott Dining Hall in Base Camp D. The program will run from 09:00-16:00, with lunch from 12:00-13:00. If you are interested in telling your story as part of the Summit Stories program, check the Jamboree Flash Update for access to the open-call submission form, for those who would be willing to tell their story, either in person, or via a prerecorded video message. Each applicant will submit a written copy of their story (in English), and a video of themselves delivering their story (which can be in English, Spanish, French or their native tongue) by May 15th for consideration. Submitting an application does not guarantee selection to tell your story at the Jamboree. For those who would like to view the stories as a symposium participant, each contingent will receive at least one ticket per half-day or day-long Summit Stories session to distribute to a contingent member(s). Larger contingents will an receive additional ticket(s) until venue capacity is reached. Has your time in the Scouting movement benefited or influenced your life in an indelible way? Do you think that the Scout Movement is valuable, and want more people to join the movement? Then take the chance to have your story heard — and its impact felt — around the world with Summit Stories.

JAMBOREE SHOWS

OPENING SHOW TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. EST Welcome your fellow Scouts from around the world at the first of three major shows in the AT&T Summit Stadium! While we don’t want to give away all of the surprises that will ring in the 24th World Scout Jamboree with a bang, we can indeed promise that you will be celebrating in style. Through entertainment, opening ceremonies, and a keynote speaker sure to inspire, the Jamboree will open in grand fashion and challenge you to unlock adventure in the days to come.

UNITY SHOW FRIDAY, JULY 26, 2019 | 8 p.m. EST Capping off a day of cultural celebrations, the Unity Show invites participants of the Jamboree to unlock the secrets of bringing different people together for a common purpose. Respect, openness, and the courage to share with one another our personal and sacred stories will be put into practice and culminate in cherished sense of fellowship often felt when gathered around the campfire.

SCOUT’S OWN SUNDAY, JULY 28, 2019 | 8:30 a.m. EST This is a unique opportunity to experience camaraderie from a world-wide array of Scouts. This service will be a mixture of readings, reflections, music, and prayers. We will even harken back to days of old when Lord Baden-Powell delivered similar messages to the very first World Scout Jamborees held in Europe. We will join with the 24th World Scout Jamboree Band, consisting of Scout musicians from six continents, as we come together in Scout Spirit and in song. We will understand the meaning of the World Brotherhood of Scouting. We will hear stories of inspiration from Scout Leaders that can help shape our Scout values. One of the highlights today will be the opportunity for YOU to be part of an attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD, hopefully one that will stand for years to come. You will not want to miss this SCOUT’S OWN, bring along a friend that you have met at the 24th World Scout Jamboree!

CLOSING SHOW THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2019 | 8 p.m. EST End the Jamboree with a party! As we prepare to return to our respective homes, the final show will challenge us all to take the keys of unity that we have discovered during the Jamboree and take them to unlock the world. Don’t miss the entertainment, excitement, and a challenge to each Scout that will inspire us until we meet again.

JAMBOREE BAND The World Scout Jamboree Band is comprised of 80 musicians who will supply musical entertainment for ceremonies, events, and generally to interest the many Scouts and visitors to the Jamboree. Musicians will be made up of registered Jamboree IST members, primarily in the young-adult age range. Scouts and volunteers proficient on many different instrument and voice, from NSOs around the world, have been selected for the 24th World Scout Jamboree Band. Musical selections and performances will be developed with diversity in mind, with a strong attempt to feature all instruments, especially unique soloists and combinations, not traditionally seen in Western Music. Furthermore, this will be the inaugural World Scout Jamboree Band, and therefore, the first time that such a unique mix of Scouts from around this world will perform together in the Jamboree’s 99 year history! Along with the main ensemble, the World Scout Jamboree Band will have sub-groups, including percussion ensembles, chamber groups, rock-bands, and even choral groups. The mission of the World Scout Jamboree Band is to “Amplify the Scouting Spirit!” Throughout your say at the Summit, there will be dozens of opportunities to hear the World Scout Jamboree Band. Be sure to catch a short song in passing at a program area, or an entire performance that will launch each Base Camp Bash. We look forward to celebrating with you, and are proud to be a part of your 24th World Scout Jamboree adventure in Unlocking a New World!
