The exhibition “The End Of The World”, by Cláudia Andujar, was held in February 2024 at Deichtorhallen, a museum of contemporary art and photography in Hamburg, Germany. The photographer, who was born in Switzerland and has been living in São Paulo for decades, exhibited projects that she carried out throughout her career, showing not only the city where she lives but also the Amazon Rainforest, to highlight the struggle and culture of the Yanomami indigenous people.

Photographer and filmmaker Carlos Ebert, born in Rio de Janeiro, traveled to Buenos Aires on several occasions, many of them for work, and fell in love with the place. During that time, using a Leica M3 with 35 and 50 millimeter lenses, he took hundreds of photos around the city, depicting the people and its streets, avenues and parks.

Dorothea Lange, a photographer who, amidst the Great Depression of 1929, decides to hit the streets to photograph the country’s situation, catches the attention of the Farm Security Administration, a federal agency, and is one of the guests who were chosen to illustrate the importance of New Deal. Her work portrays rural poverty and the displacement of families and immigrant workers across the country.

GORDON PARKS
Gordon Parks, a prominent black photographer, was one of those called upon by the Farm Security Administration, a federal agency, to portray those affected by the Great Depression in the United States during the New Deal era. His work shows the everyday life of Washington, the nation’s capital, and was influenced by the city’s stark racial segregation.

HIDDEN CAMERA
The photos from a Nikomat 35mm camera were taken by Janet Johnson, a teacher and mountaineer, in 1973, during an expedition of eight people to Aconcagua, the highest point in the Andes mountain range. They were discovered in 2020 by the guide Ulises Corvalon and the photographer Pablo Betancourt. It wasn’t until the end of 2023 that the material, developed by George Miller’s Film Rescue International, was released, revealing part of this expedition and Janet Johnson’s final moments, as she did not survive.
IBGE CONTEST
The winning photos of the 2022 Census Photographic Prize (“Prêmio Fotográfico do Censo”) were released in September 2023. They were distributed in three categories: urban landscapes, rural landscapes and housing. Captured by census takers using their mobile collection device, a standard equipment for their work, these photos were taken during the census collection of that year in different parts of the country.

MALVINAS
The time of the Malvinas War is depicted in photos released by state-run agency Télam, based in Buenos Aires — which was shut down this year (2024) by current president Javier Milei—, upon inaugurating its photographic archive in 2022. This material, aimed at portraying the reality of the military on-site, was subject to considerable censorship, as evidenced by the photos which, in its majority, do not document any kind of violence.

Malu Mesquita addresses the Covid-19 pandemic in her photographic series “Rede de Proteção” (Protection Network). The photo shoot, done in her own home in São Paulo during her isolation process, reflects on our attention to everyday details and the visual forms an environment can take when seen in different ways.

Russell Lee, who had previously worked as a chemical engineer, developed a passion for photography and was later hired by the Farm Security Administration, a government agency, to portray those affected by the Great Depression during the New Deal era. He highlighted everyday life in different parts of the United States in his work.

Walker Evans, who initially aspired to be a writer, found his passion for photography and worked on projects that examined aspects of contemporary American life. In the 1930s, he was invited by the Farm Security Administration, a federal agency, to portray the daily life of those affected by the Great Depression during the New Deal era in rural areas, especially local homes and businesses.

A exposição “The End Of The World”, de Cláudia Andujar, foi exposta no mês de fevereiro deste ano de 2024 no Deichtorhallen, museu de arte de Hamburgo, na Alemanha. A fotógrafa, que nasceu na Suíça e mora há décadas em São Paulo, expõs projetos realizados ao longo de sua carreira, passando pela cidade onde vive e indo até a Floresta Amazônica para evidenciar a luta e a cultura dos Yanomami.
CARLOS EBERTO fotógrafo e Cineasta Carlos Ebert, natural do Rio de Janeiro, viajou para Buenos Aires em diversas ocasiões, muitas delas a trabalho, e se apaixonou pelo local. Nesse tempo, utilizando uma Leica M3 com lentes de 35 e 50 milímetros, tirou centenas de fotos pela cidade, onde retrata o povo, suas ruas, avenidas e parques.

Esse sentimento único de admirador, foi o que fez meu avo Avelino colecionar estas fotos e guardá-las. Seu tesouro, hoje pela primeira vez mostrado e curado pela Carcara.

CONCURSO DE RECENSEADORES IBGE 2022
As fotos vencedoras do Prêmio Fotográfico do Censo 2022 foram divulgadas em setembro de 2023, divididas em três categorias: paisagens urbanas, paisagens rurais e habitação. Feitas pelos recenseadores por meio do Dispositivo Móvel de Coleta, equipamento padrão de trabalho, foram produzidas durante a coleta do censo daquele ano, em diversos cantos do país.
MALVINAS
O período da Guerra das Malvinas é mostrado em fotos divulgadas pela agência estatal Télam, de Buenos Aires, fechada este ano de 2024 pelo atual presidente Javier Milei, ao inaugurar seu arquivo fotográfico em 2022. Esse material, que buscava trazer a realidade dos militares no local, era motivo de muita censura, evidenciado pelas fotos que, em sua maioria, não documentam nenhum tipo de violência.
MALU MESQUITA
Malu Mesquita aborda a pandemia do Covid-19 em sua série fotográfica “Rede de Proteção”. O ensaio, feito em sua própria casa na cidade de São Paulo durante o seu processo de isolamento, reflete sobre nossa atenção aos detalhes do cotidiano, e as formas visuais que um ambiente pode ter se visto de maneiras diferentes.

O projeto “Made In Italy”, do fotógrafo italiano Pasquale Petrucci, traz o seu olhar sobre patrimônios histórico-culturais na Itália, com fotos de paisagens e monumentos alteradas por meio de ferramentas digitais.

Russell Lee, que antes era engenheiro químico, tomou gosto pela fotografia e anos depois foi contratado pela Farm Security Administration, agência estatal, para retratar os afetados pela Grande Depressão durante New Deal, onde evidenciou a vida cotidiana em diversos cantos do país.

Walker Evans, que tinha a ambição de ser escritor, encontrou a paixão pela fotografia e trabalhou com projetos que examinavam aspectos da vida americana contemporânea, sendo convidado, na década de 30, pela Farm Security Administration, agência federal, para retratar a vida cotidiana dos afetados pela Grande Depressão durante o New Deal no campo, destacando casas e comércios locais.
