CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FEBRUARY 2020
THE PHIL SMITH FAMILY BUILDING NEW FACILITY PROJECT UPDATE Temporary fencing was installed, trees were removed and the construction site was secured. Successfully relocated various existing utilities (water and sewer pipes) and also installed the latest drainage improvements in December 2019. Prepared the building pad and began construction of the new academic wing. Poured 120+/- cubic yards of concrete to create the building’s foundation on Jan. 20, 2020. Began laying CMU block for the stem walls in late January. In the next month, we will pour our slab-on-grade, tie beams and start setting hollow core planks—making the second floor. The addition of the Phil Smith Family Building will strengthen and expand STEAM and music curriculum and programs at Cardinal Gibbons, while affording students new opportunities to develop and hone their skills in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The Phil Smith Family Building will feature an Engineering Lab, choral room and secondary practice space, band studio, digital music lab, a Genius Room and television editing and production studios, as well as collaborative STEAM classrooms and labs.
OUR FAITH, OUR FAMILY, OUR FUTURE The Our Faith, Our Family, Our Future Capital Campaign is built on a comprehensive view of Cardinal Gibbons' future, seeking to fund the first phase of the Campus Master Plan.
The building pad was constructed and structural excavation was completed in anticipation of foundations.
Foundations were formed, reinforced, inspected and were poured shortly after.
