A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT To My Cardinal Gibbons Family, Excelsior is our school motto, which means “ever onward." And so begins another school year—with all of our hopes, dreams, aspirations… and maybe even a few butterflies! That’s okay; we are here together and we are all Chiefs. With construction of the Phil Smith Family Building about to get underway, we are reminded of how much we value and appreciate our generous benefactors. Through their donations, we are able to grow our great school. We are able to innovate, and we are able to lead. Take a good look at our campus. Evidence of growth and innovation are everywhere. Thanks to our Annual Fund initiative, we have been able to modernize our athletic facilities, purchase cutting edge technology and improve our existing buildings. But that’s only the beginning. Much remains to be done! We are asking everyone in the Gibbons Family join in this effort and contribute to our Annual Fund. It’s as easy as going to our website. We urge you to make Cardinal Gibbons your number one choice when it comes to your charitable giving. Check with your employer. Maybe they offer matching funds. Either way, your gift will help make CGHS a leader in Catholic Education for years to come. Let’s all have a great year! Go, Chiefs! Tom Mahon President and CEO

A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, On behalf of the entire Cardinal Gibbons family, I’d like to welcome you to a new and exciting school year. The faculty, staff and I are excited to see our returning students and parents. Our campus has been exceptionally quiet over the summer without all of you! I’d also like to extend a warm welcome to the new students and parents who are joining the Cardinal Gibbons family this year. I sincerely hope you enjoy your first year with us and come to love Cardinal Gibbons as much as I do. Over the past several weeks, we’ve been busy preparing the campus for the new year. After putting up a few fresh coats of paint on the academic wings, nstalling new flooring outside of the gym and cafeteria and making a number of changes in the Main Office, we are more than ready to welcome all of you back to campus! Along with the physical changes happening around campus, our leadership team has also changed over the summer. Mr. Thomas Mahon has assumed the role of president, I have transitioned into the role of principal and Mr. Steve Puryear is joining us as the new dean of student affairs. All of us, along with Lori Kubach, associate principal of academics, are excited for these changes and the new possibilities they bring to Cardinal Gibbons. In addition to the over 300 new students that will be calling Cardinal Gibbons “home” this year, we have also added a number of new faces to our faculty and staff. With the outstanding new additions to our faculty, we have also been able to expand our curriculum and are offering several new courses this year, which will afford our students a number of exciting new opportunities to grow and learn. Once again, welcome back! I am excited to see what great things our students are able to accomplish this year! Warm regards, Oscar A. Cedeño Principal

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP All parents who are dropping off a student should enter the Cardinal Campus through the main gate, accessible from 47th street. As you enter the student parking lot from 47th street, please form two lines and follow the directions of the Campus Security team. Please note that all parents must use this front gate; the rear gate located off of Bayview Drive is reserved for student use only. Traffic in the surrounding area may potentially be heavy during the first few weeks of the school year, due to the proximity of other local schools. Please plan accordingly, as your child is still expected to be in their homeroom by 7:55 a.m. each morning, despite traffic conditions. The main parking lot gates are locked promptly at 8:00 a.m. each morning; in the event that your student is arriving late, you may drop them off in the circular driveway outside of Gibbons Hall. Your student must then proceed into the Main Office, where they will be checked in. Please bear in mind that you may pass through a number of school zones during your commute. Please use caution while driving through the Coral Ridge neighborhood, and please obey all posted speed limits, both in and out of school zones. Once the school day has ended, please enter campus through the front gate, and, once, again form two lines. We advise parents to notify their student of their arrival to avoid traffic jams in the parking lot. Students must be picked up and dropped off on campus and we ask that parents do not pick up or drop off students in front of St. John the Baptist Church or anywhere along 47th street or Bayview drive. We kindly ask that all parents and student-drivers respect our neighbors and their property and refrain from parking on lawns or in open driveways.
VISITOR PARKING When visiting campus, we kindly ask that all visitors park in the circular driveway outside of Gibbons Hall. Please be considerate of other guests who may need to enter or leave the driveway, when parking your car.
NEW FACULTY & STAFF This year, we are welcoming nearly 20 new faculty and staff members to the Cardinal Gibbons Family! Dina Amata, Marie Kimble and Zachary Griffin are joining the English Department. Cody Feikles and Father Ricardo Rivera are joining the Theology Department. Kelvin Gonzalez and Margarita Perez-Mena are new full-time additions to the Science Department. John Zuluaga, who currently serves as the Athletic Trainer, is also joining the Science Department, as a part-time teacher. Yolanda Reyes is bringing a wealth of knowledge to the World Languages Department. Janette Camacho, who will serve as Assistant to Associate Principal of Academics/Special Projects, and Chari Distler, who will be joining the Technology Department, both join us from North Broward Prep. Yaniris Diaz is taking over the role of Human Resources Manager. Sara Kirsch and Jason Perez-Cubas are joining the Social Studies Department. Margot Mason is joining us to teach in the Art Department and Jaclyn Weber is helping to expand our academic Dance program. Karen Muzi, our ESE Assistant, is expanding her role and joining the Math Department as a teacher. Nancy Ortenzo is returning to Cardinal Gibbons to join the Guidance/Advising Office. Lastly, Steve Puryear will be serving as our new Dean of Student Affairs.
