STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN "HOUR OF CODE"
PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP Members of the Cardinal Gibbons Parent Teacher Fellowship supplied teachers with delicious holiday cookies during the two weeks leading up to Christmas Break. Thank you to all of those who donated and helped spread the Christmas spirit to our faculty!
SPRING SCHOOL INFORMATION Cardinal Gibbons celebrated "Computer Science Education Week," Dec. 9-13, with "Hour of Code." Each student had a week’s worth of activities available on their iPads and was given time in their APEX classes to be exposed to Computer Science. With technology all around us, the faculty and staff at Cardinal Gibbons are encouraging every student to try a skill that transitions them from consumers to creators. Although Computer Science is not new to Cardinal Gibbons, it is certainly growing in popularity. Students that are exposed to Computer Science at a younger age are more apt to take a class in it and even pursue it as a career in the field. In efforts to grow our STEAM program, we have encouraged all of our students to give it a try. Throughout "Computer Science Education Week," students had a chance to win a Think-Make-Code T-shirt to show off their newly honed coding skills. All students who participated gave a tremendous effort.
Spring School is offered at Cardinal Gibbons for students who need a second-attempt with some classwork previously taken. These second-attempt Spring School courses are available to students who originally failed or received a D or D+ in a course and need to repeat it in order to earn the credit, meet graduation requirements, or improve their GPA. Each class that requires remediation is a $400.00 charge. Only two classes can be remediated in Spring School. Students who are remediating a semester grade of “F” will receive priority and be assigned a seat on a first-come-first-serve basis. Spring School will be held from Feb. 10-March 20. More information regarding class offerings and schedules will be announced in January.
COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT INFORMATION Cardinal Gibbons has partnered with St. Thomas University to teach Dual Enrollment classes on our campus. The DE program gives high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses and receive college credit. Sophomore, Juniors or Seniors who have a weighted GPA of 3.5 are eligible to take a DE class. To remain eligible for future DE coursework, students must achieve a B or higher in each DE class. For more information regarding Dual Enrollment courses, please contact your child's academic advisor.
