GUNTHER MOTOR COMPANY INVESTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA EDUCATION WITH $250,000 GIFT TO CARDINAL GIBBONS
Cardinal Gibbons High School announced a $250,000 gift to the Our Faith, Our Family, Our Future Capital Campaign from Gunther Motor Company during a recognition ceremony at the school’s Homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 25. During the halftime ceremony, representatives from the Gunther family were brought onto the Dr. Bud Tight Field and were presented with a commemorative plaque as a thank you from the Cardinal Gibbons community for the family’s immense generosity and outstanding leadership. The Gunther’s donation will help fund the construction of the Phil Smith Family Building, the top priority of the Our Faith, Our Family, Our Future Capital Campaign. In further recognition of the donation and the Gunther family’s longstanding support of Cardinal Gibbons, a chief-themed mural, designed by renowned marine-life artist and Cardinal Gibbons alumnus Dennis Friel ‘92, was installed on the south side of the baseball dugout in the family’s honor. The mural, which was unveiled during the announcement of the donation, is dedicated to the following members of the Gunther family: Jay Gunther ‘74; Casey Gunther ‘75; Josh Gunther ‘96; Taylor Gunther Healey ‘01; PJ Healey ‘01; Joe Gunther ‘02; James Gunther ‘12. Gunther Motor Company and the Gunther family have had a strong philanthropic presence in the South Florida community since opening their doors in 1969 and have supported local organizations including, Holy Cross Hospital, the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, among others. Taylor Gunther Healey, director of philanthropy at Gunther Motor Company, described the importance of community involvement for both her family and the company. “Our family has been a part of the community for over 50 years and giving back is at the heart of what we do,” said Gunther Healey. Though the Gunther’s have been longtime supporters of Cardinal Gibbons’ athletic programs, Gunther Healey expressed that supporting academics and empowering students at Cardinal Gibbons has become a priority for Gunther Motor Company. “There is a great need for a facility like the Phil Smith Family Building at Cardinal Gibbons; times are changing and education is becoming far more advanced,” she said. “I am confident that the impact the Phil Smith Building will have on Cardinal Gibbons students will be tremendous and will only further set apart Cardinal Gibbons graduates.” CARDINAL GIBBONS HIGH SCHOOL, 2900 NE 47TH ST., FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33308

PERFORMANCE TIMES & TICKETS
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: "BRIGHT STAR" By Megan Price, Class of 2020 The Cardinal Gibbons Drama Department showcases its Cappie show, “Bright Star,” on Friday, Nov. 15, under the lights at Nova Southeastern University’s Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center. “Bright Star” uses nostalgia and catchy bluegrass tunes to tell a tale of love and redemption, set against the backdrop of the American South. The book, written by actor and comedian Steve Martin, is based on a true story. The music was written by Martin and pop singer, songwriter Edie Brickell, with lyrics by Brickell. The story revolves around two characters whose lives are strangely intertwined. Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, the story revolves around Billy Cane, a soldier, and Alice Murphy, a no-nonsense editor. The story flashes back and forth between 1945 and the early 1920s as a dark secret is discovered and is eventually brought to light resulting in Billy and Alice learning the truth of their pasts and themselves. Senior Darby Silverman shines as Alice Murphy while sophomore Cameron Relicke stars as Billy Cane. Silverman and Relicke are accompanied by a talented lead cast including Parker Greenblatt, Juliana Rios and Amber Arevalo. The story unfolds as a tapestry of deep emotion, with beautiful melodies and enthralling performances by an exceptionally talented ensemble of actors, singers, dancers and musicians. “‘Bright Star’ is an exciting work where the story and the music are equally compelling and beautiful. The music really tells the story,” said director Erick Crow. “Because of the folk style of the musical, ‘Bright Star’ is different than what people may expect from musical theater so we are thrilled to kick off our season with this performance,” Crow said.

Stage Manager, Amanda Jones; Head Costume Designer, Meg Price; Head Props Designer, M Lee; and Head Makeup Designer, Lily Krause. “Bright Star” is ultimately a triumph of love, understanding, and optimism. It is a beautiful portrayal of the resolve of the human spirit to go on, and ultimately triumph, even under some of the direst of circumstances. This story can breathe, live, and hopefully teach and inspire us to be the best we can be. This powerful show is THE must-see show of our season!
