A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, As we approach the end of the first quarter, I want to compliment your children on their smooth transition into a new and exciting school year. I trust that your children’s quarter grades will be an accurate assessment of what they have learned, and the time and energy they have expended in the process. Thank you for joining us on our “Back to School Nights.” Communication between parents and teachers is an important element in the formula for academic success. Please be frequent visitors to our campus and attend as many events as possible during your child’s four years here. As senior parents will tell you, these four years go by very quickly.
We have instituted a number of changes this year to enhance the safety and security of your children. We have off-duty FLPD officers on campus every day from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Perimeter gates are locked from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and all guests must be buzzed into the Main Office through an electronically locked door. Classroom doors are locked and we have done a number of lockdown drills with our students. As always, the culture and climate of the school must be one of care and support and all students must feel welcome. We are preparing our underclassmen for the PSAT and our seniors are hopefully completing the college application process and perhaps taking their final SAT or ACT tests. College Night is a few days away, Homecoming is on the horizon, our drama students are rehearsing for the production of “The Addams Family,” and our athletic teams are in the middle of a very successful fall season. Our annual Open House is on Sunday, Oct. 14. Please encourage your friends who may have children in eighth grade to visit us on that day. I would like to take this opportunity to publically acknowledge the outstanding work and commitment of a dedicated corps of teachers, staff and coaches who contribute so significantly to the lives of your children. It is my pleasure to work with them in the exciting and challenging field of Catholic education. For the Cardinal Gibbons Family,
Paul D. Ott Principal CARDINAL GIBBONS HIGH SCHOOL, 2900 NE 47TH ST., FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33308

OVER 145 STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO HONOR SOCIETIES Over 145 Cardinal Gibbons students were inducted into an academic honors society on Sept. 27 during a ceremony hosted at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. During the ceremony, inductees were recognized and presented before their society moderator and president to receive a certificate documenting their accomplishment. All inductees joined one, or more, of the six academic honor societies that have established chapters at Cardinal Gibbons, including Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors Society, Science National Society and National Honor Society. Honors societies are meant to complement a student's academic studies and allow them to collaborate with peers who hold similar interests. Dr. Carmen Chavez, moderator of the Spanish National Honor Society, said, "Honor societies provide students with an opportunity to develop leadership qualities so that they can inspire other students... I have seen firsthand how members encourage their classmates to join an honor society so that they can work together towards a common goal."

DRAMA DEPARTMENT PRESENTS "THE ADDAMS FAMILY"
The Cardinal Gibbons Drama Department will host performances of their first mainstage production of the year, "The Addams Family," on Nov. 2-4 at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the campus of Nova Southeastern University.
MANNING '20 INVITED TO TRY OUT FOR U18 NATIONAL BASEBALL TEAM Timmy Manning '20, pitcher for the Cardinal Gibbons varsity baseball team, was invited to join the 2018 USA Baseball 18U National Team Training Roster after an outstanding performance at the 2018 Area Code Games earlier this year. If selected for the final 20-man roster, Manning, a University of Florida commit, will compete with the USA Baseball 18U National Team at the COPABE U18 Pan American Championships in Panama in November.
In this original story about love, honesty and growing up, the macabre Addams family is put to the test when outsiders come to dinner, hurling Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama and Lurch headlong into a night that will change the family forever. The non-stop comedy will leave you laughing for days while discovering that no family is normal and honesty may be the best policy. Showtimes: Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets: $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Student tickets for the Sunday showing are $10 with a valid Cardinal Gibbons I.D.
