THE DEVASTATION OF ROE
The Impact of Abortions on America
LIVES LOST
63.5 million babies made in God’s image denied their God-given right to life.
63.5 million is 19% of the current US population.
1 in 5 pregnancies ended in abortion.
DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACT
40% of all abortion are among African American women, even though they constitute only 7% of the US population.
70% of Planned Parenthood clinics are located within walking distance of minority neighborhoods.
INFILTRATION OF THE CHURCH
4 in 10 women and 5 in 10 men were attending church one or more times per month at the time of their first abortion.
Churches became silent as abortion was moved from a spiritual issue to a political one.
At an average of $500 per abortion, church going people have funded the abortion industry to the tune of 200 million per year.
LOVE, SEX & MARRIAGE DISCONNECTED
86% of women having abortions are unmarried. “My body, my choice” created a generation of men who have been absolved of responsibility.
In Care Net’s national surveys of women and men who have been involved in abortions, both cited the father as the biggest influence in the abortion decision.

BUT I HAVE COME THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE, AND HAVE IT ABUNDANTLY.
A MINISTRY IS BORN
Care Net was founded in 1975 as the Christian Action Council (CAC) by renowned scholar Dr. Harold O. J. Brown, with the advice and encouragement of former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop, Rev. Billy Graham, and renowned theologian Dr. Francis Schaeffer. Since its beginning, Care Net has been the key organization impacting America in two realms: (1) the culture’s attitudes about abortion and life, and (2) the on-the-ground work of saving the lives of unborn children and serving pregnant mothers, fathers, and those close to them.
The primary focus at Care Net’s founding was to engage Christ followers in responding to the abortion crisis caused by the decision in Roe v. Wade , and to challenge emerging threats to the sanctity of human life, such as fetal tissue research, genetic engineering, assisted suicide, and euthanasia.
In 1978, CAC found itself at the organic birth of the pregnancy center movement and began to research and develop a model for pregnancy centers. CAC quickly became the ‘go to’ leader for best practices in the young pregnancy center movement and positioned the organization to mentor, council and direct centers across the nation in a unified effort for life. In 1995, CAC officially changed its name to Care Net.
“What you did was wrong in God’s eyes—but He has not rejected or abandoned you. He loves you, just as He loved the child that was growing in your womb. When Christ died on the cross, all your sins— without exception—were transferred to Him. He took upon Himself the judgment you deserved and “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 2:2). Accept God’s gift of forgiveness today by turning to Christ and by faith inviting Him to come into your life.”

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE SUNDAY
Care Net created and promoted “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday” which has become a well-known, annual pro-life event within churches. Care Net requested and received from President Reagan a Presidential Proclamation in which he said, “I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life.”
FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Care Net held its first national conference in Herman, CA, to engage and equip individuals to serve those considering abortion in their communities, and we have had a national conference ever since. This year we held our 39th conference in Phoenix, AZ, and it was our largest ever with 1,600 attendees from pregnancy centers and other Pro-Life groups, and more than 85 training workshops.
TRAINING FOR PREGNANCY CENTER VOLUNTEERS
Care Net developed and released Serving with Care and Integrity - a robust, volunteer training manual for pregnancy center volunteers which trained thousands of pregnancy center volunteers every year. This training was completely updated in 2018 and renamed Compassion, Hope, and Help which is now the premier resources for training pregnancy center staff and volunteers at Care Net affiliated pregnancy centers.

Jeannette & Miguel Choose Life
“Miguel and I were working as counselors at a summer camp when I began to suspect that I was pregnant. As soon as we got home, I took a pregnancy test, and it came back positive. I did some research and found an ad for Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center that said, ‘Pregnant & Scared?’ This was, in fact, exactly how I felt. At that time, I was strongly considering abortion. When we arrived we were greeted with warmth and understanding. I felt so comfortable there and was able to honestly express my fears and concerns. My peer counselor walked me through all of my options and told me about a nearby center that offered free ultrasounds. I knew that I wanted to see the ultrasound.
The moment we saw our baby on the screen, we knew that we had to consider what was best for our unborn child. We called Lighthouse and told them that we were going to keep our baby. Lighthouse became a source of strength and helped us become the people we have always wanted to be.” Miguel added, “I would simply like to say that without the guidance of the Lighthouse family we would not be the strong, confident and loving new parents we are now going to be. Thank you for being a light and helping us step out of the darkness.”

LAUNCHING PREGNANCY DECISION LINE
In 2012, sensing God’s calling to offer callers more than a referral to a pregnancy center, Care Net launched Pregnancy Decision Line (PDL), the first national call center providing immediate pregnancy decision coaching to women and men considering abortion. Research shows that, on average, a woman who is considering abortion takes only nine days after suspecting her pregnancy to abort her child. PDL meets parents as they are actively deciding on whether or not to abort their child and, after providing lifeaffirming counseling, PDL refers callers to a local pregnancy center for additional information and support. PDL coaches also look for opportunities to share the Gospel during every call.
The voice sounded hushed... frightened.
Our PDL coach could tell the young woman on the other line was in trouble.
“Where are you?” the coach asked. “I’m in the bathroom at the clinic, waiting for my procedure.”Sydney* was calling from the abortion clinic.
She’d taken strong prescription drugs early in her pregnancy and was terrified by the thought of birth defects. After an ultrasound, her doctor said she was 11 weeks along and everything looked normal... but Sydney just wasn’t sure. So she’d made her appointment at the abortion clinic.
But, as she counted down the minutes to end her baby’s life ... Her resolve faltered.
Overwhelmed, she fled the exam room to collect her thoughts. In a bathroom stall, she frantically searched online for answers on her phone...and found Pregnancy Decision Line.
When the PDL coach encouraged Sydney to trust her doctor’s assessment, Sydney felt freed. She chose LIFE for her child and walked right out of the clinic.

A NEW GOSPEL-FOCUSED MISSION & VISION
Saving lives for this world is critically important, but saving lives for eternity is the most important thing Care Net does.
In 2014, Roland Warren (Care Net’s President and CEO) was reading an article on the pro-life movement when God impressed the words “Pro Abundant Life” on his heart. This led to a change in Care Net’s mission and vision, with a focus on the transforming power of the Gospel.
What began as a new mission and vision has turned into a movement that is changing the way people view and do ministry to women and men facing pregnancy decisions.
OUR VISION
Care Net envisions a culture where women and men faced with pregnancy decisions are transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and empowered to choose life for their unborn children and abundant life for their families.
OUR MISSION
Acknowledging that every human life begins at conception and is worthy of protection, Care Net offers compassion, hope, and help to anyone considering abortion by presenting them with realistic alternatives and Christ-centered support through our life-affirming network of pregnancy centers, churches, organizations, and individuals.

PRO ABUNDANT LIFE OBJECTIVES
BECAUSE the only source of true and lasting transformation is the Gospel. Care Net helps lead people into transformational relationships with Jesus Christ, breaking the cycle of repeat unintended pregnancies, and connecting pregnancy center clients to the local church for discipleship and long-term support.
BECAUSE 86% of abortions in the United States are among unmarried women, Care Net promotes healthy marriage as a critical factor in preventing abortions and as the optimal environment to raise children in accordance with God’s design for the family. The best way to ensure children thrive in life is when they are raised by their own, married parents.
BECAUSE the father of an unborn baby is the most influential factor in a mother’s decision to abort, we work to break the cycle of abortion by engaging the father. Positive father involvement prevents abortion, and post-birth, children with involved, responsible, and committed fathers fare far better in various ways.
BECAUSE our culture-at-large no longer values the sanctity of human life and the sanctity of the family as God designed it, we seek to influence the culture by transforming hearts and minds so that regardless of what the laws are, abortion becomes unthinkable in our homes, churches, and communities.
BECAUSE those who have experienced the pain of abortion are often the best to minister to those currently considering abortion, Care Net seeks to equip the Church to facilitate forgiveness and healing through Christ to those suffering from past abortions. In turn, those who have experienced healthy recovery from abortion will be equipped and empowered to serve those who are currently making pregnancy decisions.

ENGAGING THE CHURCH
WHAT MAKING LIFE DISCIPLES IS
Making Life Disciples (MLD) is a practical, non-political “basic training” to equip a group of first responders in a church or parish to offer compassion, hope, help, and discipleship to women and men facing pregnancy decisions.
WHAT MAKING LIFE DISCIPLES DOES
• Equips the church to watch for and reach the abortion-vulnerable in their midst.
• Equips the church with sensitivity to and healing resources for the post-abortive.
• Builds bridges that connect pregnancy center clients with local church discipleship.
IMPORTANT FOR THE CHURCH
62% of women who have abortions associate themselves as religiously affiliated, with 30% identifying as Protestant and 24% as Catholic.
This means that 54% of women having abortions identify as Protestant and Catholic.54%

TAKING THE PRO ABUNDANT LIFE MESSAGE TO THE CULTURE
Legal and political advocacy plays a critical role in saving lives, but hearts must also be changed. The overturning of Roe v. Wade did not end unplanned pregnancies or the ability for women to have abortions -- especially with the increasing availability of the abortion pill. As a Pro Abundant Life organization, Care Net is committed to providing life support to those making pregnancy decisions by ministering with compassionate care to women and men facing pregnancy decisions and dedicating ourselves to eliminating the desire for abortion, regardless of what the law says.

REGENT SCHOLARSHIP:
Every year Care Net partners with Regent University to give a pregnan cy center client a full ride scholarship. This year’s recipient was Kayla who found out she was pregnant with her son Oliver at 17. Initially, she was scared of being a young mom and of the judgment she thought would come with it. But when she went into
her local pregnan cy center, those worries quickly faded. She was reassured by the loving, nonjudg mental staff and said “I never knew what I was capable
of until I was provided with the resources and confidence to do so.” Kayla was not only met with compassion, hope and help, but also an opportunity to grow in her relationship with Christ.

MAKING LIFE DISCIPLES STORY:
Most recently, we had a man and women come into the center who requested another couple to walk alongside them during their pregnancy and parenting journey. Our center director was able to call a Life Team coordinator, who prayed, and asked a young couple at the church, who had completed the Making Life Disciples training, if they might consider this opportunity to help. The couple was excited to say yes, and the

DEAR FRIENDS,
As you have read, the Pro Abundant Life movement was created with a post- Roe world in mind. We have an opportunity now for unprecedented impact.
Until abortion becomes unthinkable, we cannot take our foot off the gas. NOW IS THE TIME for the Pro Abundant Life movement. Our message and approach were created for exactly this moment in time. Together, let’s seize this moment to make an enormous impact for life and for God’s Kingdom!
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
Yours for Abundant Life, Roland Warren, President and CEO
FEDERAL LAW HAS CHANGED, BUT THESE THINGS HAVE NOT:
• women and men will still make decisions that lead to unplanned pregnancies
• roughly half of US states will still provide abortion on demand (and many up to birth)
• at-home chemical abortions will continue to grow in popularity
• the enemy of our souls will still be looking to destroy life made in God’s image.
• People facing unplanned pregnancies need the hope that only Jesus can offer
God will continue to use your partnership to save unborn lives and impact their families through:
