Department of Computer Generated Imagery Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, Assumption University

Background or Significant of the Project

The learning curve of historical content which somehow is difficult to remember and understand. However, people still have a lot of intricate issues to study in each step of learning. The designer comes up with the idea that we can separate difficult contents and manage it to study step by step and finally those contents will be easier to digest as the knowledge into the brain of the learners. The poster represents the idea of taking the primitive form of historical reconstruction of the main pagoda – Lotus Bud style pagoda, at Wat Chedi Chet Theao, Si Satchanalai Historical Park at Sukhothai province in Thailand as the basic form that people could understand. Then transform and rotate it in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th layer until the last one at the back panel to represent the final reconstruction of the perfected pagoda. The word “ศรีสชั นาลัย” is display in the backward order of fill and outline stroke in each layer to implied the learning process that educator need to study back and forth to double check whether the information was correct or there is something wrong on those data.

Project Objective

4.1. To preserve the outstanding characteristic of Thai ancient architecture. 4.2. To visualize the ruin archeological in the completed stage using 3D reconstruction strategy to display pagodas.

Concept

Historical contents could be separated in the layer for easily in study and remember on the detail. Reconstruction of Thai architecture can be visualized by typography, characteristic, material, color and the significant of each pagoda which are located in the same area. The consequence of this idea will be changed the perception of historical education into the positive way. The significant founded during the research on this project was Lotus-bud finial style pagoda (represent on the main element of artwork) has showed the significant characteristic on the finial which the form is similar to 3

lotus bud. The antefixes, called gable were decorated on the base of the lotus bud. The pagoda reminds us to one of the outstanding pagoda that located behind the main sanctuary (Viharn) at Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai. The difference was there are no decorative motifs on the antefixes.

Prasat style pagoda, significant pagoda, located on right corner of the back row of the temple. This pagoda also similar to the one that situated at Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai. The archeologist presumed that this two temples might built almost the same time or maybe it architecture styles was influenced to each other. However, the decorative stucco on top of niches has 2 level of porticos. This portico was influenced by Lanna-Pagan art which is similar to the decorative stucco at Wat Pa Sak, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai province.
