Message From the Dean Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts is proud to host its third year faculty show 2017, under the theme of Reform at the Suan Pakkad Palace Museum. As the name suggests, Reform is about making change for the betterment. It can be viewed as the betterment of participants, the betterment of body of works, or the betterment of the nation by using our works to help improve our community and society. Our school always believes in the betterment of the next generations. To be successful in our teaching profession, one can consider whether or not our students’ performance exceeds teachers’ own image, both under an academic standard and as a human being. Confidently, this show can be used as a discipline to embody students desire and drive to exceed expectations. Background or significant of the project

Thailand is one of the biggest tourism industries in Asia in 2016. According to Ministry of Tourism and Sports, there are gigantic number of foreigners visited Thailand up to 32,529,588 tourists. Within the number, the number Chinese travelers were accounted up to 8,757,646 people which is 26.92% of the total number of tourists who visited Thailand in 2016. Tourism industry in Thailand is continue growing and generating income for many people in Thailand each year. Thailand is also a country with a unique culture, language and food which they can attract Chinese tourists for visiting this country. The three most popular places for Chinese tourists are Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai which they have different places and different cultures. Locals in different cities has been encountered language barrier with Chinese Tourists and experienced a hard time trying to explain courtesies, believes and value of respected things or places within the communities. Many publishers in Thailand has disclosed the facts of Chinese tourists who have acted inappropriately on sites as public places, communities, temples. Also they practiced illegal activities such as climbing the Buddha sculpture, law of importing alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The criticism of these actions has been effected Thai people’s perspective to Chinese tourists in a bad way. Due to these reasons, Embassy of the People’s Democratic Republic of China based in Thailand (Bangkok) had made survey of Chinese tourists on those problems. The survey shows that Chinese tourists are not intended to do these acts; however, they do not know the tradition, cultural etiquette And laws of Thailand tourism. As a result, the misunderstanding is a stream of criticism as proposed by the media in Thailand. The embassy has began to find solutions for solving those problems by promoting all information to Chinese tourists who will be traveling

The next day, they go to a temple, their dress code to the temple were inappropriate. The voice over will advise on how to dress accordingly to places so they changed their outfits. The ending of the short film will be at the Don Meung Airport while they were hugging each other looking at planes taking off.

After the film has been successfully produced, Chinese Embassy has plan to publicized on the airplane while the plane is landing at Suvanaphumi International Airport, Don Meung Airport, Phuket International Airport and Cheingmai International Airport only on Chinese airlines such as China Airline, Air China, China Sounthern Airline etc. According to Chinese Embassy, surveys from Chinese tourists showed that between August to December 2017, out of 4 airlines, 178 flights with 12,594 Chinese passengers, the short film has been successfully explaing them and make them to understand on what to do and not to do in Thailand up to 78.91%. (Chinese Embassy of Bangkok) To summarized, the creative work of this shortfile has been successfully publicized and meet the setted goal more than expectation since the offense decreased up to 50%. There are also suggestions and satisfaction rate including in the survey of how the film should include scenes of punishment on those who break the rules, so they are urged not to break rules. There should also be scenes of parents with kids on how to teach and take care of them properly while traveling in Thailand. Additionally, the film should suggest how and where to contact for health and other emergencies.

Background or significance of the project Reality and Illusion are connectedly intertwined in theatre world. Tragedy and comedy are two main dramatic genres in the world of theatre. Written words in either tragedy and comedy often play a major role in conveying messages and themes from the scripts. In order to understand words written in the script, one must interpret the context and analyse script. In order to compose a script, one must command a word. However, one word can mean more than one or two things. This creative research aims to experiment with words and how the audiences perceive through their own experiences and translate its meaning towards themselves.

Project Objective

This project would like to provoke audiences to be able to 1. Question themselves about what they see (illusion) and what is actually it? Think and rethink what’s real and what’s illusive. 2. Review and revise the understanding of tragedy and comedy in audience’s experiences.

Concept The main concept plays with written words and illusion of seeing and perspective of the viewers and how it interplays with the audiences of the exhibition.

Process of art or design works The main processes are 1.1 Selecting and deciding on written words that fit in term of syllables and meaning of the words. 1.2. Experimenting with 1.2.1 Fonts and the meaning that can best convey the message of reality and illusion. 1.2.2. Size, the proper size and height when set up. 1.2.3 Colour, the mood and tone

Reflect Yourself, Reflect Your Soul

Background or Significant of the Project

Rorschach inkblot test is a psychological test to allow the person to project his or her thought freely by looking at inkblots card. The 10 cards of Rorschach inkblots were using Klecksography; a technique to make an image by dropped ink onto a paper and folded in half to create a mirrored effect, to create a beautiful abstract art form of black, grey and colored inks. The method introduced by Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach (1884-1922) in 1921 to access cognition, personality and psychological conditions of the patients influenced by Szyman Hens’s inkblot card and Carl Jung’s emotionally associations. Unrecognizable form or Abstract form created a space of freedom for artist and audience to express their emotion and to appreciate artwork unconditionally as same as Rorschach inkblot test. This project will represent a concept of Rorschach inkblot test in a contemporary way.

Project Objective 4.1. To study about Rorschach inkblot 4.2. To create a Rorschach inkblot by using a contemporary material and interaction.

Concept

Rorschach inkblot test was originally a test for the psychiatrist to access cognition, personality and psychological conditions of the patients as well as assessment the results with free associations from patients. To create a psychological test that allow audiences to analyze themselves individually, will be a sort of freedom that we should have. Self-observation might encourage a self-understanding in a deeper level. Reflective mirror will be a material to create a self-reflection or the likeliness of the audience as a virtual image. Instead of reflect a whole single image, the reflection will be scattered to small pieces which referred to complexity and variety of the person. Without audiences to make an interaction with the artwork, this artwork could not be 37

Process of Design or Art Works 6.1 Selecting the design of Rorschach inkblot Study the Rorschach inkblot testing and selecting design 6.2 Production Study a material characteristics and sketches 6.3 Artwork Gathers all materials, assembly materials on MDF in A2 size then spray a clear matte lacquer on the unwanted reflection to create a shape of Rorschach inkblot.

Oneiric

Background or significant of the project

In film theory context, the term oneiric refers to the depiction of a dream-like state or a metaphor thereof or the use of a dream-state to analyze a film. The dream metaphor has a long history in film theory and begins as an early birth of cinema, with the famous dispute on the contrast between cinema as a perfect system of reproduction of reality. With influences from the 1995 Dogme 95 filmmaking movement, French New Wave and Realism a dream-like vision is portrayed into a form of live images in order to explore the notion of visual communication through viewers’ experiences. In order to understand and gain the ability to critically assess and make value judgments about works of contemporary art and design (an essential component of the development of an artist or designer), the body of work is based on the theory of Earls ADSR method for the evaluation of works of visual art. The four parameters used as contours of how work of art works are: attack, decay, sustain and release. Concept Films and dreams are connected in psychological analysis by examining the relationship between the cinema screening process and the spectator (who is perceived as passive). Roland Barthes, a French literary critic and semiotician, described film spectators as being

in a “para-oneiric” state, feeling “sleepy and drowsy as if they had just woken up” when a film ends. Similarly, the French surrealist André Breton argues that film viewers enter a state between being “awake and falling asleep”, what French filmmaker René Clair called a “dreamlike state”. Edgar Morin’s Lecinéma ou l’homme imaginaire (1956) and Jean Mitry’s first volume of Esthétique et psychologie du cinéma (1963) also discuss the connection between films and the dream state. By sharing a so-called “reality of visual dream”, the short film Oneiric offers a new and one of a kind visual experience to the viewer.

Sometimes I dream. Sometimes I wonder. Sometimes 5 dreams in the same night. If it’s real or unreal. Sometimes I woke up during the dream and be able to get back and continue the same dream. I jumped from the cliff and fly up to the mountain. Sometimes I dream about my hidden desires. Just like a rollercoaster.  Sometimes I dream about what I fear. I wish I know if I’m dreaming. Sometimes in my dream I don’t see peoples faces no matter how hard I try to look at them they always turn their back on me but I know exactly who they are. So I don’t have to worry. Sometimes in my dream I met with people I knew but they all have the same faces. I never seen my actual face in my dream before. I wish some of my dream comes true. Sometimes I’m glad that it was only a dream. Sometimes I want people to see my dream. I wake up in my dream.

As I’m a 3D Animator I work a lot on Autodesk Maya program, at some point I would like to learn and expand my knowledge about 3D more than just the usual program. There are lots of 3D artists and designers that inspired me to learn Cinema 4D program. So I’ve started practicing on the program, mostly on dynamics function. It was quite challenging for me to learn the program by self-study because Cinema 4D is mostly working on the values and numbers.

Project Objective To experiment on Cinema 4D program and achieve the result following my design.

Concept This project was my experiment with the program so I decided to create the concept based on mood and tone that I like, “Cyber Punk”. The vivid lighting has been created on the scenes The characters I decided to keep them less detail, by using basic shapes and forms because I wanted to concentrate on the techniques in the program, moreover less detail on the models helped me a lot with the workflow.

Process of Design or Art Works 1. Program practices – I practiced from online tutorials to get used to the tools and menus on the Cinema 4D program, I learned how to export/ import files from others programs to Cinema 4D. So that I can work on mutiple programs at once. 2. Pre-production – I used Autodesk Maya to created the 3D character models. I tried to keep them low polygon so the files are not too large.

models to Cinema 4D, I had to convert maya files (.ma/.mb) to DAE_FBX export (.dae). Next, I imported the 3D models into Cinema 4D, created a group for the 3D models and put the group under Subdivison Surface then created the Cage which I applied Simulation Tags as Soft Body. After that I put mesh under the group and initialized the cage on it. For the background I applied Simulation Tags as Collider Body. During this progress I was experimenting with the values and numbers on Soft Body. I set up about 9 lighting (spotlight, omni) mixed between red, blue and green color. 4. Post-production – I rendered the images from the keyframe that I chosen. The format on the render setting was set as .tiff and then import the images into Adobe Photoshop for retouching.

Material and Techniques of Design or Art Works 1. Autodesk Maya – I used this program to prepare the asset files before transfer them into Cinema 4D. I created the 3D models and exported them into DAE_FBX export format without any texture just the default shading on them (lambert). 2. Cinema 4D – The techniques I applied was Simulation Tags, Soft Body and Collider Body. For the lightinting I created the spotligh mixed with omni then changed the colors following my concept and move the camera around the get the nice composition. 3. Photoshop – This program I used for retouching the images to get the better result after rendered out from Cinema 4D program.

Knowledge After Finished Produce Art or Design Works Firstly, I learnt how to manage my time from the beginning to the end. The key ingredients are a good planning, references, and researches. Secondly, Internet is the good source of knowledge and information. I’ve learned a lot from the tutorials and how to applied them on my project. Thirdly, to work with various programs you must understand the format and how to import/ export to others. Some programs the formats are quite limited or sometimes when you import file into other programs it reduces or changes the quality of the file. Fourthly, there are a lot of plugins for Cinema 4D program you can buy online to get a nice lighting and rendering, without any plugin I had to test out many materials and lighting. The hardest part for me was the materials. I reduced/ increased the number then rendered to see the result so at this progress I spent lots of time with. The picture below is how I set the material to get the matte plastic texture.

Background or significant of the project

The creative design work was based on the artist belief in the world of digitalization where our daily routines are completed in the digital universe. The era of Big Data has affected us all in one way or the other. Directly by gathering our information and data in everything that we do from purchasing online or even browsing randomly on the internet. It is definitely a two edge sword which this sensitive issue is yet to be solved or understand truly by us the human being. Artificial intelligence or Ai as we know is playing a big role in all sectors and will be more dominant in the near future. Therefore, understanding and realized the significant numbers of this digital world is vital to our wellbeing.

Project Objective 1.Provide knowledge of the digital universe and its massive effects. Various information display on the design is selected by the mass effect on the people in the modern society. 2.Display information in a graphical design format. Instead of reading information in a formal way, the design of shapes and colors can attract more viewers which are drawn to certain designs. 3.Create awareness to audiences of the digital universe surrounded our lives. Most of the people are aware of the big data era but only a glimpse of it and can’t imagine the massive effect it has in everything. Background or significant of the project Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night or What You Will is one of the most renowned pieces for his comedy. The play recounts the reunion of twins’ characters; Sebastian and Viola as well as other perception and misunderstandings while also questioning how people identify themselves when faced with an identity crisis. In connection with the themes of deception, disguise, and performance that are the sources of comic counterparts of the play, Twelfth Night raises questions about the nature of gender and sexual identity. Last September, Dreambox Theatre, a professional Thai Theatre Company produces a new Thai-translated version from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night as Ra-tree-tii-sib-song or Awthii-sa-bai-chai (ราตรีทสี บิ สอง or เอาทีสบายใจ) with the professional cast. The creative project is aim at recreating visual edition of the cast in costumes, to reflect the aspects of multi-faceted and overlapped of identity of characters, through a set of collage work creation from the portrait photos of main cast from Dreambox Production, in characters’ costume and make up.

Project Objective 1. To apply the thematic ideas from the Shakespeare’s Classical play to re-create a conceptual (visual) artwork. 2. To create a collage art work to reflex incommensurability of selfhood and identity.

Concept Oneself as (An)other(s): pastiche of identity in composition is an attempt to demonstrate, through (and with) a visual artwork that reflex on some theoretical premises on identity. Therefore, to be applied with characterizations in a play, the identification of oneself is usually preceded in un-fulfillable dynamism. For statement of this dynamism, for me, it is quite identical to the collage picture in working. And it becomes more obvious, in a way, when it has been recreated and interplayed with the portraits of the characters (the cast) from the play that is playing on disguise and deception of identity. Their reflected appearance, to be relocated of body, facial components as well as costume equipment, becomes re-ordered. Identification of the cast and character is promisingly to be problematic and create more satiric or cynical entanglement with images of the characters.

“CRACK” The Accidental art on Typefaces design

Background or significant of the project

The Typefaces design ‘CRACK’ was inspired by my interest in the trace, damaging, crack of several items which are appealing and look beautiful in their imperfection, leading to the creativity of this font set. The set is comprised of the alphabet letter A-Z and number 0-9, reminding the accidental or unremarkable happening. I found that the scratching trace occurring at things including the accidental crash tend to imply the negative feeling among people. It represents the damage or what we need to fix. From my point of view, these scratches may positively be the medium telling good story or some creative things as well.

strong. The book narrates about the observation and imagination from the trace the author found from his photos of surrounding objects. It inspired me of the beauty and creativity that could happen from imagination and observation of the past traces, occurring from the accidental action but mean a lot more.

Visual elements for character designs are basic shapes and forms, which combined to create interesting figures with personalities. It is the shapes that used to reflect the attitudes and characteristic of the characters. Each basic shape has its own effect on the audiences such as circle or oval shapes characters make them look more friendly than the characters that used triangle for their silhouettes. Reforming technique has become more and more useful nowadays when it comes to selling point for the character design from various series. Character design is taking a huge part not only for entertainment media but also for hobby and products. We can see them around us for example Funko pop toy series or Disney’s tsum tsum series.

Concept Limited changes in shapes Reforming concept in design has been used more nowadays in order to get attentions from the buyers or the audiences. All of the designs that have been reformed are based on their designed prototype and the characters that chosen would get to be reformed and redesign to fit the prototype design. My concept would be based on reform topic which changing only the basic shapes on characters to get different looks. Process of Design or Art Works

1. Research The research starts with the character that will be chosen for the project. The characters that have been chosen are famous character and have strong design in shapes and come from different story and geography. The character that have been chosen are Mike, Sully and Randall from the Monster Inc., Doraemon, Nobita and Giant from Doraemon. Because of the iconic design which can be easier for the viewer to recall the original design. 2. Design I study the design of each character to understand their element and shapes that reflect their characteristic. After the study I analyze the shapes of each character and put the new shapes following the order I came up with. The characters have been breakdown to 3 basic shapes that very common used which are circle(or oval), square(Or rectangle) and triangle. Each basic shapes can represent the personalities and roles of each character. The order or replacing the shapes are as the following; 1. Circles or ovals will be replaced by squares or rectangles. 2. Squares or rectangles will be replaced by triangles. 3. Triangles will be replaced by circles of ovals. I applied the shapes with the texture that close to the original and keep the characteristic of each character in mind.

The software that I used for this artwork is Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop. The technique is using shapes and texture brushes to create accurate forms and similar texture to the original design.

Background or Significant of the project Relationship between texts and images has always been at the very core of graphic design study. When the images started to move with the invention of motion pictures, conventional wisdom goes that one should apply the same typography rules for print to the moving screen. During the silent films era, this was a obvious. Text that shows dialogue are called “intertitle�, and they do not occupy the same space as the footage. In modern movies, even though adding text onto the footage is very easy, moving picture and text are often kept separated by the filmmakers. Title sequence of a movie for example, are commonly outsourced to outside studios. So a director of the film may not have to know anything about typography. Writing on Motions proposed a new set of guidelines for managing text in film. This is an attempt to encourage rethinking of applying typographic rules for time-based medium such as film and broadcasting. How does the rules change? What can be adjusted? Learning how to apply typography with footage is becoming even more important because of social media. Videos showing up on the newsfeed of instagram and facebook often have texts in them. This is because when people browse on the smart phone, the audio would not be automatically turned on. Using text has become a more efficient way of catching the attention of users who are just scrolling through the newsfeed. Typography is taught specifically to those who studied graphic design. Film production curriculum would likely not have typography in their curriculum. It used to be that all fine arts field must start with basic knowledge of drawing and designing, but as more specialized program are formed, more and more people skipped the essential foundation knowledge. Nowadays we have generations of filmmakers who never have to learn how to draw draw, art history or typography.

Project Objective

The main objective of this creative work project is to create a teaching video of how to manage informations that are presented in text with moving pictures. The video will be used in an assignment with students studying digital media and films. The goal is for them to use the video as a guideline in creating videos that incorporate text in an effective way. Typography is a very deep subject. The video will only attempt to be a very basic guide for filmmakers, which they can then apply this knowledge by consulting with a trained designer in their crew should they have one. They can also use It as a starting point for their understanding of typeface designa nd layout which can be expanded upon by further readings or taking workshop classes on typography for print media.

1.6 Using the video to teach in class and receive feedback from students, both verbally, and also through the utlilzation of text in their homework assignment.

Concept -Tutorial video- The video will be in a form of a guidelines tutorial, but not the same as the ones teaching people how to use software. It Is not a howto video but instead a suggestion for the best way to communicate through text with moving pictures. All the examples will be filmed by the artist, with footage from the artist’s old work.

So for media and production students who normally can just avoid having to deal with text their entire career, may not be too enthusiastic about learning them. But those who have acquired the knoweldge have one more option to use in case if they have problems with finding narrators who can speak fluently. Typography Is something that can be explored very deeply. It Is hard to not lose track of the information you want to convey that directly related to using typo graphy on moving images. It is also difficult that the subject require some prior knowledge of both typography and filmmaking. Degeneration

Background or significant of the project Due to the aged society, the increasing of elder whose age more than 60 years old is increasing dramatically every year. (Department of National Statistic) the number of elder is increased from 8,266,304 to 10,014,705 people within 3 years (2554-2557) our country is going to reach the super aged society very soon. That means the number of elderly people will be more than 20% of the entire population. Also, this issue is in the government plan. When the people reach to age of 60 or being elderly person, the most seriuos problem of elder would be degeneration of health and physical body such as wrinkles, hair loss, broken tooth and farsightedness etc. Nothing is sustainable. Everything is changed by the rule of nature. As for this artwork, the artist meets the degeneration that happen with his dad who is 76 years old and try to reform this degeneration in to graphic elements to make awareness to other people. Golden Ratio theory is the perfect size or proportion which is invented from Greek mathematician. In Greek, they believe that Phidias who design Parthenon temple use this theory to design it and believe that Leonardo da Vinci use golden ratio theory in his artwork. The golden ratio size is 1:1618 which everyone believe that is a perfect and beautiful section. Golden ratio number has something that relate and like Fibonacci number (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233 and so on.) which is invented by Leonardo Fibonacci. By dividing the Fibonacci number with previous Fibonacci number, the result would be around 1.618 which is golden section number. it is believed that this theory is use in the nature such as the number of petal and natural shape, so the artist tries to combine this kind of theory with graphic arts and use it in his work.

Concept As for my dad health problem and degenerate physical body, it is my inspiration to make this artwork because of natural life, everyone will get old in the future someday. Everything in this world is unsustainable. Everyone must meet this degeneration as usual by someday, so the artist tries to convey the work with his dad half-portrait to show the natural of life. On the other side of my dad portrait will be conveyed by simplified graphic elements and using golden section and golden ratio to make the awareness of physical degeneration in elderly person that the artist present in comparison style.

6.1 The working process start when I see my dad body and health which is degenerating every day. 6.2 Finding information about aged society and elder’s problem by reading research, news and articles etc. 6.3 Try to analyze and categorize the information by drawing a relation flowchart. 6.4 Taking a portrait of my father in the studio with 3-point lights and retouch the picture in adobe photoshop. 6.5 Realistic Sketch and experiment on the golden ratio, shape and pattern to simplify my father’s portrait

Knowledge after finished produce art or design works Everything and every life in this world must meet degeneration in their life. Nothing is forever. Degeneration in physical body will occur when the age reach 60. That is why the artist wants to make awareness by reforming the degeneration of elderly person into graphic elements by using golden section and ratio theory. The artist tries to experiment on the shape such as rectangle, triangle, circle and other patterns in the golden shape and apply it to artwork. By using the theory of golden section and ratio, the artist can conclude that it is one factor that can make your work composition better and consistent. It helps boost the beauty of the work in re-form context. After visual simplifying, I found out that my work need a bit more details, so I decided to add some crumpled paper textures and grain texture in to my work to represent the degeneration and wrinkle. The result turns out good. Adding the texture might be a good technique that can improve the detail of the work. I tried to frame this artwork with black framing which make my art look not outstanding. It is better to use white wood framing to make this artwork feel like a portrait at home and it also make my work looks outstanding more than the black one.

Logo & Brochure Design for “P-Gig’s dessert”

Background or significant of the project

This project aims to promote a local small business of Mrs. Saithong and her son, the family in Lamphun, Thai-land. “P’Gig”, the boy, was born with Autism. Now, he is 18 years old. After finished grade 9, he stopped going to school and Mrs. Saithong has become his teacher and mother at the same time. P’Gig starts to learn how to make an egg cake to help his mother creates more income and prepare himself for his future.

Concept The design is consist of logo and layout design. The logo would mainly represent “P’Gig” the owner who bake an egg cake. The logo simplified from P’Gig’s face and in-troduce what he’s doing. The design looks easy to under-stand, friendly and approachable. Due to a low budget cost, the brochure design will be digitally printed only 1 side and should be functional as a trifold brochure. The brochure design would make people easy to understand the business by making a simple layout and many photographs of P’Gig’s egg cake.

1.1 Creating a logo I try to simplify the boy’s face to be a representative of the brand. The logo is hand-drawn by brush tool in ADOBE Il-lustrator application. The logo is one colour which is Brown colour (C50, M90, Y100, K50). It makes the design look warm and reachable. Logo is designed by using positive & negative space and also the 85

1.2 Adjusting image From 36 pictures, the images has selected to be use only 7 images. Individual image will be adjusted brightness and contrast. The bro-chure design is divided into 3 sections and make it fit to tri-fold brochure. The variety size of images is applied into grid and column to make the brochure looks interesting.

The logo is made by designer’s hand-drawn and use mouse (tool) to create the form of both symbol and typogra-phy. All logo is brown by mixing Cyan 50%, Magenta 90%, Yellow 100% and Black 50%. The logo is designed by gold-en ratio and using asymmetry balance. The brochure design used 6 rows and 4 columns. It is devised into 3 sections. Section 1 is for the brand introduc-tion and description. Section 2 is filled in by the different size of photographs. The headline is custom type made by the designer. Body text is TH SarabunPSK with aligned left of the paragraph. The logo and brochure are finished by Illustrator Ap-plication. The brochure will be digitally printed on 80 grams of “Green Read” uncoated paper in A4 size.

People should recognise the logo and notice the characteristic (mood & tone) of the brand. Also, the logo should be able to apply to a various media easily. Background or significant of the project When we talking about the “Reform”. We are always think about the way of change or the state of transition from one thing to another. The origin of the reform in my idea is an abstract meaning. It is a condition of metamorphosis. There are several ways to communicate the meaning of the “Reform”. The aim of the creative work describes the state of changing from the space to shape and the interactive of itself. It is a reaction to the feeling by the visual perception. Space and shape Is an important element in the creation of art. But the role of these elements is only a component of visual art. Space and shapes are valuable by itself. The Contemporary Painting: “Shape Space and Reform” were creative work project try to use the basic element of arts. To create the potential of space and shape in the new idea. To make the audience consider about the value of its when I use it together. It leads to new perception and awareness. From Pascal Mamassian’s research talking about Visual perception as “Vision perception is ambiguous and visual arts play with these ambiguities. While perceptual ambiguities are resolved with prior constraints, artistic ambiguities are resolved by conventions. Is there a relationship between priors and conventions? This review surveys recent work related to these ambiguities in composition, spatial scale, illumination and color, three-dimensional layout, shape, and movement. In the public eyes, it could be only the number but the photography business might see otherwise. Due to the 8K video recording and broadcasting system, any moment on 8K screen can be capture and print out full pixel of 7680p × 4320p* or 33.18 Megapixel. Pro-consumer level DSLR in 2018 has similar resolution, which means traditional photography might be unnecessary. The 8K broadcast system could be the dawn of new medium of communication and the dusk of traditional photography. The project aim to experiment a 6K video recording experience with the fine art theme: Reform - Elements. (Equivalent to 25.6”x14.4” at 300DPI or approximately A2 paper)

The settings were at shutter speed 1/3000, f4 ISO 320 and 30 FPS on Video recording, not photography. The study shows the screen capture can be applied to photograph effectively. As a result, other subjects can be applied for live capture accordingly. In camera software allows to fine select the frame without external software. As a demonstration for consumer level to experience the function and print out a high resolution photography from video file. In conclusion, the project reflects the hypothesis of the experiment that the transition from photography to video and vice versa is highly possible and could lead to a new medium of visual communication.

Layer in Historical Reconstruction Learning

Background or Significant of the Project

The learning curve of historical content which somehow is difficult to remember and understand. However, people still have a lot of intricate issues to study in each step of learning. The designer comes up with the idea that we can separate difficult contents and manage it to study step by step and finally those contents will be easier to digest as the knowledge into the brain of the learners. The poster represents the idea of taking the primitive form of historical reconstruction of the main pagoda – Lotus Bud style pagoda, at Wat Chedi Chet Theao, Si Satchanalai Historical Park at Sukhothai province in Thailand as the basic form that people could understand. Then transform and rotate it in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th layer until the last one at the back panel to represent the final reconstruction of the perfected pagoda. The word “ศรีสชั นาลัย” is display in the backward order of fill and outline stroke in each layer to implied the learning process that educator need to study back and forth to double check whether the information was correct or there is something wrong on those data.

4.1. To preserve the outstanding characteristic of Thai ancient architecture. 4.2. To visualize the ruin archeological in the completed stage using 3D reconstruction strategy to display pagodas.

Historical contents could be separated in the layer for easily in study and remember on the detail. Reconstruction of Thai architecture can be visualized by typography, characteristic, material, color and the significant of each pagoda which are located in the same area. The consequence of this idea will be changed the perception of historical education into the positive way. The significant founded during the research on this project was Lotus-bud finial style pagoda (represent on the main element of artwork) has showed the significant characteristic on the finial which the form is similar to

lotus bud. The antefixes, called gable were decorated on the base of the lotus bud. The pagoda reminds us to one of the outstanding pagoda that located behind the main sanctuary (Viharn) at Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai. The difference was there are no decorative motifs on the antefixes.

Prasat style pagoda, significant pagoda, located on right corner of the back row of the temple. This pagoda also similar to the one that situated at Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai. The archeologist presumed that this two temples might built almost the same time or maybe it architecture styles was influenced to each other. However, the decorative stucco on top of niches has 2 level of porticos. This portico was influenced by Lanna-Pagan art which is similar to the decorative stucco at Wat Pa Sak, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai province.

Four Bell-Shape Style pagoda founded at Wat chedi Chet Thaeo. The good condition pagoda found in Chedi no. 5 which reveals the influenced of Lanna style of Bell-shape style on the redented square bases design. This design raises the proportion of pagoda higher. The important characteristic of Sukhothai bell-shape pagoda is a set of 3 sloping mould support under the bell shape.

Lai Bundan Thai Tarot Card

Background or Significant of the Project

Thai motifs or Lai Thai, appear around us, in architecture, mural painting, decorative, etc., especially in Thai Lacquer Works or Lai Rod Nam, gold colour on black background that is very beautiful. All of them were set in a good and beautiful composition with interesting objects. Thai Lacquer Works are mostly seen in temples, door and window panels, scripture cabinets, etc. There are various types and designs of Thai motifs from Late Ayuthaya to Early Rattanakosin period, angels, nature, animals, insects, florals, and also small motifs, from the original colour, gold and black, can be changed into the different way by using graphics softwares, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. We can reproduce Thai motifs from the original sources, to the new design, styles and mood & tone by using different colour scheme and composition. Thai motifs in this design work called “Lai Bundan Thai”, lai thai that is inspired from the past. Tarot card, is one of the most popular playing cards, Waite-Smith tarot, classic illustrations from Art and Craft Movement, inspired me to create “Thai Graphics Tarot Card”, that using Thai graphic elements, layout, typeface and colour scheme. I designed only 4 cards from Major Arcana (No.6 The Lovers, No.8 Strength, No.18 The Moon and No.19 The Sun) and 1 back card, using Thai clip arts from reproduction process to compose as close as with the meaning of the original card.

Project Objective

4.1. To preserve Thai Art and Culture. 4.2. To show how to use Thai motifs to design the Western tarot card and all elements in each card can reflect the meaning of the card.

Concept

6.1 Photo Taking Walking into many places, temples, museums, taking photos as much as I can, especially in Thai Lacquer Works, I spotted on angels, nature, animals, florals, insects and also small motifs, some are cute, some are beautiful with neatly details. 6.2 Reproduction Turning photos to vector graphics, by using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator via tracing process.

6.3 Design When I’ve got vector graphics from reproduction process, I will pick or choose some appropriate elements to design the beautiful design works, set up in good composition and the design have to express the meaning of each card.

Materials that I used are hand-made paper, frame, and inkjet printer.

Is the process that makes or turns any original images to vector files (.ai in Adobe IIllustrator) Original Images, there are photograph (Thai heritage culture), scanned image and drawing or painting. Thai Heritage Culture, there are temple, crush, mosque, chinese shrine, architecture, ornament & motif, Thai lacquer work, Thai mural painting, stucco & sculpture, signage, type & lettering, everyday stuff, people, plant, flower, vegetable, animal, etc.

Reproduction Process : Tracing Process

Trace : the easiest way to reproduce Thai graphics from original image, just one click and wait for the result in Adobe Illustrator - Open original image in Adobe Photoshop - Change document colour mode to grayscale - Adjust black and white contrast - nvert colour to “black” object on “white” background - Use “Stamp” or “Torn Edges” filter to clear the intensity - Use brush to paint/draw any missing area and eraser to erase any unusual parts - Save file with the new name - Place file to Adobe Illustrator - Trace image to vector - Fill colour

PR Materials Design and Exhibition Design for “Jai – Doo – Hoo – Fung: The King in Our Heart” Audio Described Exhibition

Background or Significant of the Project

Since 2012, Thailand’s Institute of the Blind for Research and Development had set up the road map for making awareness about Audio Description (AD) service in Thailand. Audio Description is the additive service to all media for visually – impaired audiences to have the right accessing to all the data and information as same as sighted audiences. By rendering all the visual images; photos, paintings, sculptures, or motion pictures, to be the verbal description, AD can enhance the imaginative images of the real objects into the visually – impaired audiences’ minds. Audio Description service in Thailand is now in the process of experiment, many public organizations such as television stations, foundations, or museums start concerning more on the right of people with disability. Many public events have been set up recently to open the opportunities for those people in joining the social atmosphere. Thailand’s Institute of the Blind for Research and Development have set the aim about the awareness of Audio Description and the participation of visually – impaired audiences in many aspects. Ad movies, TV series drama, live performances have been created and designed for the audiences for many years, and yet received a good feedback from both the audiences and the media. In December 2017, the instituted with cooperation of Museum Siam and NTBC, had put another effort for the awareness making of AD. The audio described exhibition, “Jai – Doo – Hoo – Fung: The King in Our Heart”, had been designed and installed to provide the great opportunities for visually – impaired audiences to vision the photographs and sculptures of His Majesty the King Rama 9, by Audio Description providing. This exhibition was aimed to open for both sighted people and visually – impaired, also the volunteers were recruited by online and offline announcements. Since the event needed to be publicized, and needed to be designed to meet the use and the meaning of the concept of King Rama 9, all PR materials and exhibition design needed to be done as the following objectives.

The Project Objectives

4.1 All PR materials need to be communicative the concept of visually – impaired audiences, and also the King Rama 9. 4.2 The exhibition design need to be matched with the requirements for the visually – impaired users, and also sighted users. 4.3 The exhibition design need to present the concept of eternal King Rama 9. 4.4 All PR materials and exhibition designs need to get along in the same theme.

The Concept of Design “Jai – Doo – Hoo – Fung: The King in Our Heart” was the given name of the project. Thus, the meaning showed that the focal point of the exhibition was about how to perceive “The King” by using the “Heart” instead of the eyes. All PR materials design will represent the concept of “Blind People who have never seen their beloved King Rama 9, but the image of the King shined brightly inside their hearts”. The exhibition showed the journey, past to present of the kingdom under the King Rama 9’s patronages.

Processes of Art or Design Work

6.1 PR Materials 1) Designer determined and declared all types of PR materials according to the brief from the organization which were; (1) to publicize the event, (2) to make the souvenirs for the participants, (3) to call for the sighted volunteers during the event period, (4) to make the press invitation for the press conference, and (5) to create the landmark for photography. 2) According to the brief, designer declared PR materials as follow; (1) The A3 poster for publicizing the event which can be on both online and printed platform (2) Black T-Shirt and the screened blindfold to be the souvenirs to be the symbolic of “Blindness” (3) The A4 call – for – volun-

teer poster which could be posted online and offline, and the 4 x 6 in. name tag for the volunteers (4) The A5 press invitation which could be printed out for the press (5) The 2.4 x 3.6 sq.m. backdrop for photography 3) Designer chose the color scheme as monochromic, Yellow, White and Black to represent the meaning of The King Rama 9, the true brightness which can only appear in imagination of the blind, and the true darkness which appears for them all their lives. Audio Description would be the connection between the white and black in this design. 4) Designer chose the contrast techniques; Accuracy – Distortion by presenting the shape of the person in the design as the bold, clear cut black line (accuracy) and the yellow freeform brush stroke (distortion) painted cross at the eye level as the symbol of the person who could not see, the visually – impaired people. 5) Down to the chest level, the figure used the right hand held the gold relief of King Rama 9 attached to the chest, representing the meaning of “Blind People who have never seen their beloved King Rama 9, but the image of the King shined brightly inside their hearts”. 6) Designer applied all the materials with the same components, yet different composition to create the Consistency - Variation contrast, consistent in components and elements in design but variated in composition which could still be perceived as the same theme and concept. 7) Designer sent all the designs to be approved and printed to achieve all objectives received from the brief of organization.

Exhibition Design

1) Designer started exploring and determining the size of the exhibition rooms. The exhibition took place at temporary exhibition rooms, 1st floor Museum Siam, Tha Tien, Pra Na Korn, Bangkok. 2) The exhibition was held in 2 rooms; one 10 x 10 sq.m. and 7 x 10 sq.m. next to each other. There was one door connecting

those room together. 3) Designer determined all the objects for installation. All the objects were displayed in both touchable objects and in Audio Description form. There were 23 objects which were 17 A2 photos, 2 sculptures, 3 bass reliefs, and 2 3Ds printed objects. 4) Designers chose to use “warning blocks” and places them in front of all objects in case of being the warning signal for visually – impaired participants, and designer chose the warning blocks to be in yellow color, in order to dominate the significance of visually – impaired people, while designer chose the carpet to be black for making the contrast to the yellow warning blocks in exhibition and make them more dominant, yet to get along with the design theme in PR materials. 5) Designer chose the boards for all photographs in grey color, and the table for the rest objects covered in black, in order to dominate the warning block. 6) Designer designed the circulation loop in the exhibition by choosing the concept of “infinity” to represent the eternity of the King Rama 9 in all Thai people’s hearts. The circulation would lead the participants from the entrance to the first stop which was the bust sculpture of His Majesty the King Rama 9. Then, the circulation would lead the attenders to all the photographs and objects one by one at a time. Yet, designer designed the circulation loop to be in one – way – walking where the attenders would not be interrupted by each other. 7) Designer designed the circulation to lead the attenders to the audio described movie room, the movie room was arranged into the form of temporary theatre with 25 seats. Before entering the seats, the designed circulation would lead attenders to the “Feedback Expression” spot, provided as the round table with the blank notebook for the attenders to express their opinion and feedback. Designer designed this spot lit in the spotlight angle to emphasize. 8) All the exhibitions were designed according to the same monochromic color scheme as the PR materials for consistency. 9) Designer sent all the exhibition designs for approval and installed. 111

Materials of Art and Design Works PR Materials 1) Printed PR materials were printed on the 180 grams art paper. 2)Photo backdrop was printed on 2.4 x 3.6 sq.m. vinyl and installed on plywood structure. 3) Digital PR materials were posted and shared online via website and facebook.

Exhibition 1) The dotted – warning – blocks were made of the rubber in the size of 30 x 30 sq.cm., yellow color. 2) The carpet was designed to be 2 mm. thick, black color. 3) All the lightings were designed to be in Day – Light color to match with the mood and tone of all design.

1. The consistency in design worked effectively for the awareness of the event existence. Many people recognized different PR materials in different places could still link to to the same event because of the consistency. 2. Text on backdrop design should be above people’s height. When people stand in front of the backdrop to take photo, the name or the text on backdrop still can be seen in the taken photograph. 3. The monochromic color design could provide the strong sense of all design works. 4. The carpet for circulation in exhibition can be cut and installed at workplace manually without printing the drawing in 1 : 1 scale for preparation. 5. One – way circulation worked well for the small scale exhibition. The attenders and the volunteers were less interrupted during moving around the exhibition.

Background or significant of the project

Minimalism or minimalist art, coined in 1965, can be seen as an extension to the abstract idea that art should have its own reality and exist in its own terms irrespective of context. It is an art of extreme visual reduction of truth to the medium without any attempt to imitate or represent an outside reality. Works of sculptures from the 60s and 70s by Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd and Robert Morris, some of the most important innovators to Minimalism, stress the primacy of the object itself and consider the importance of a work’s environment. By offering a highly purified form of beauty, these pared-down objects purged of all metaphor and meaning, exemplify maximum immediacy of arrangement through qualities of truth, order, simplicity and harmony. Based on the principles of truth to the medium, common stylistic features predominantly seen in Minimalist works are rectangular and cubic forms equal of parts, repetition and neutral surfaces. Materials and methods of mass production were preference in all Minimalist works of unitary geometric shapes arranged not by hierarchy of composition, but rather scale, light, color, surface, or relation to the environment. The environment frequently became the pictorial field, emphasizing the importance of the audience’s interaction with the works. By stressing aesthetics of exclusion and focusing on the primacy of the object itself in real space, the audience absorbed the art not from a single viewpoint, but rather through varies alterations that truly transformed the gallery experience.

Project Objective

1. To reveal essential visual elements of an art form and reduce its content to rigorous clarity of pure qualities of color, form, space and material 2. Its mixture of austere and decadent fluoresworks cent impulses yields to minimalism not so pure or even minimal at all. The work captures the duality of restraint and excess by questioning form and materiality in absolute symmetry. Through its abstract aesthetic, the endless tracks of lines or rectangular units are carefully arranged as a whole to cut into the gallery space and extend into infinity. The audience is invited to respond to what they see in regards to the spatial relationship between the viewer and the object. As the sculpture activates and occupies the space, the wall, floor and ceiling of the gallery are reformed to become part of the sculptural experience. The viewer is encouraged to be conscious of the space as the sensuous object and its slatted panels hug the gallery floor. Through the nature of the aesthetic experience, space and sculptural form, the audience is meant to bring in their own sense of direction and perspective while contemplating the idealism of Minimalist art. affinities of restraint and excess or the notion of less is more

The process of making Slatted Parallel was less about creating a particular object and more about the attitude towards making it. While it is important to remember that art-making mediums should be used in a way that supports your ideas, there are times when experimentation and unpredictability can lead to a pleasing aesthetic discovery. Moreover, when painting on something unexpected, such as a slatted bed base from Ikea, the history of the surface brings with it colors, textures, marks and irregularities of its own. Through the mixing of austere and decadence the contemplation of minimalism vs. “maximalism” did raise question during the productive condition of making the “specific object”. What can be certain is the sculptural form is thus nothing but orderly relations of medium, form, space and aesthetic experience embodied in an impersonal and flexible arrangement of repeated elements. As the sculpture will be carefully arranged to emphasize and reveal the architecture of the gallery directly onto the floor, the manner in which visitors engage in the environment will change. Rather than being viewed passively and objectively from a distance the sculpture will be up to the viewer’s own territory and reality. Through the duality of restraint and excess, the viewer is also meant to question the form and materiality of what is known to be an ideal Minimalist artwork. Therefore, because the idea behind the piece need only be realized where intended for display, the knowledge learned after production is not yet entirely fulfilled. However, as the piece will stand-alone in real space it does not depend on a viewer for completion.

Now a day, the technology in 3D world is moving so fast. It is not limited to working on one specific software. It really difficult to say which software is better than other because all the software can work crossover by exporting file like fbx. or obj. from one to another. It’s good to know the recent software that industry use. Substance Painter is the recent software that people in 3D game industry use. This is a good chance to explore the new software learning new technique for texturing in 3D.

Concept “Reform” from my point of view is when object transform from one shape to another it related to time like fruits get old it’s change in shape and form it got mold on texture itself. I use an Apple as an object because it is an object that people familiar with people has experience what it would be like when it gets old but instead of old on profile and got mold on texture I think of if it has a different material like metal and it has sit in an abandon place for a long long time what would it be like. I use the metal material because VFX can do things that impossible, very expensive or very difficult to do instead of ordinary organic thing transform I would like to explore my imagination farther by make-up an Apple from metal material which got old by scratched and lusted on it.

CHAROEN VICTOR PENGSATHAPON -Untitled Description : Working in the field of art directions, design directions, corporate branding, short films and many more creates a feeling of an on screen only creative output. Often the beauty of creativity varies from medium to medium. Within another world of my art curating and painting dealing businesses, I often go back to what is the most basic of a hand usage creativity output, which is drawing & painting. This piece reflects of an unconventional usage of paint that portrays what an urban city we live in actually look or feel like. Layers of urban scrawls to messages and advertisements in enamel, spray paint and ink are being layered upon each layers to reflect of what urban city walls actually look like. They also are now walking into another charming world.

Many precious and meaningful items such as various tropical plants, Thai Colonial architecture, signature decoration and services of Mandarin Oriental Bangkok hotel are used to illustrate and present a hundred years of success and history of this well-known Bangkok riverside hotel. Poom Suebsantiwongse “What does it take to bring lives under ocean to life?” Description :

To me corals are the jewels of the ocean, communities of organisms as rich and diverse as any above or below the surface of the planet. In one form or another, they have decorated the ocean with an exquisite Radiating Glorious Blossoms. Ever since I was a young boy, i have always been amazed by them, how silently beautiful they were. My mission is to bring their vibrant, colorful, and dazzling forms to life. I present you the 4th in a series of my “RGB” collection, “The Radiating Glorious Blossoms”.
