Here at Carey we are committed to the notion of ako—being a learning community together, and building a diverse and intercultural community that supports, nurtures and facilitates transformative learning.

When you study at Carey you have a range of options and modes of engaging with your courses. Study on-site at our Penrose campus in Auckland, or choose to study by distance. An increasing number of our students choose to undertake learning at a distance in order to remain in their own regional contexts. All NZQA courses are semester-based, and are taught either through weekly classes (classroom or online), or in block-mode. Block mode allows students to come on campus for smaller intensives (from two to five days). Some courses are practical field-based education, meaning that you can learn ‘on-the-job’ in your church or community-based ministry contexts.

For most programmes, you can also choose to study full-time or part-time, taking one or more courses per semester depending on just how much time you are able to commit to your learning at that point in time. Choose the approach which best fits your own situation and needs.

Regardless of your mode of study, you will use a range of web-based learning platforms to enable you to interact with fellow students. This provides a learning community that will support you in your studies, allowing relationships to develop and creating spaces for exploration, discussion and interaction. There are also opportunities to build relationships through our weekly lunches, in classes, through our formation opportunities, at our weekly chapel and through prayer. We would love you to come and be part of our Carey community! Get in touch to discuss how study at Carey can best meet your needs!
