Pastoral Leadership
Pastoral Leadership Hautūtanga mō ngā minita
I chose Carey because I wanted to study theology in community and be prepared for ministry in Aotearoa— whether pastoring a church, or continuing as a secondary school English teacher. I wanted to delve into the scriptures to understand how I could best serve other people and become better equipped to share my faith.

Theological study and Pastoral Leadership training have together deepened my conviction that while all ministry is God’s, I’m able to participate in God’s work by faithfully responding to context, gifting, and my sense of call. Carey has enabled me to explore all of these with support from a diverse and intimate cohort, and I’ve acquired skills in congregational leadership, preaching and pastoral care that will help me to express my faith truthfully and lovingly wherever God leads me.”

Are you looking for a high quality training experience that will prepare you for ministry? Or, perhaps you are already in pastoral ministry and would like a rigorous professional development programme that will grow your capacity and skills.
Carey recognises that the challenges facing the church today require well formed leaders with a robust biblical theology, personal resilience, and the range of skills needed to lead well.
Our Pastoral Leadership training involves intentional development of your biblical knowledge, spiritual life, self‑awareness, leadership skills, and preaching so that you are equipped for the long haul.
Experienced practitioners will work alongside you, mentoring and supervising you through a personalised development track. Local churches also offer hands‑on experience to build your ministry skills and confidence. All of the learning is constantly enhanced by peer group experiences where you will be supported and encouraged as you grow together with other pastoral leaders.
