Do you care about the quality of your education and school system? Do you care about your health insurance cost and coverage? Do you care about the rights of women to make their own decisions? Do you want more jobs? Do you want a higher minimum wage? Do you care about Immigration Reform? Do you care about Health Care Reform? ……DO YOU CARE? If you answered yes to all of the Questions above then your answer to the Question “Did You Vote” better be YES!! Did the Republican party win the mid-term elections? YES! Are there more Republicans in America than Democrats? NO! Did more Republicans turn-out and Vote? YES! What was the Republican Agenda since 2004? Block President Obama at all cost; whether it makes sense for the American people or not; it was a

These words, the song and the lyrics were written over 50 years ago to address the conditions in the world; have we evolved, improved recovered, seen the light….or any of the above in the past 50 years. Are we still at ‘War’ with ourselves?

Part 1

Let’s evaluate and take a closer look at our 2-term, democratically elected President; President Barack Obama; by no means is he a perfect President, there are many things that many of us think he should have done differently but again none of us are there sitting in his position facing the issues, forces and negotiations that he has had to face on a daily basis. Anyway the facts, just the facts: position of Opposition. Is that the best politics for the people of America? NO! Is the blocking of progress what you want for your community, your city, your State or America? NO! If you didn’t vote, if you didn’t do your part to make sure all of your friends and family voted, if you didn’t do your best to get the message out to Vote; then, I’ll modify Bob Marley’s words slightly, next time . . . Get Up, Stand Up, Vote ……or SHUT UP!!!! In 6 years under President Barack Obama we have made incredible progress as a Country, yet politicians both Republican and Democrat are not taking the opportunity to stand on his shoulders and embrace the progress but rather they are, in some cases avoiding his endorsement or support and in other cases making statements like ‘We will now take back America for Americans’…..sorry but I’m confused; are the Republicans planning on taking America back, as in backwards, into the depression we were in under the 2 terms of the Bush administration? Any political candidate, Republican, Democrat or Independent, should be thankful for the opportunity to be the next President coming in behind our President Barack Obama……he’s made your job easy; just keep doing what he’s been doing for the last 6 years or rather 8 years. Are we judging President Obama based on his accomplishments, based on the facts or based on the color of his skin?

Has the Democratic Party Lost its Way in 2014? By Roger Caldwell

he national results are in, and the National Democratic Party was given a royal beating by the National Republic Party. There are many excuses and reasons for this beating, but the Democrats never showed up at the polls. Only 38% of the registered voters in the country were inspired to participate in the Democratic process, and the only color they saw was red. Congratulations to Reince Priebus and his team, on their execution and winning strategy, which put the Democrats to shame. The Republicans stayed on message, and they were able to condition their members and many independents that it was un-American to vote blue. Even though, the turn out for

On certain levels, it appeared that the leadership in the Democratic Party was sabotaging the election, and expected to lose. The Democrats appeared to be on the defense, and never was the aggressor with their message and the president’s record. Everyone in the country knew in order for the Democrats to win, there would have to be a strong showing by the African Americans and Hispanic communities. Instead of the Democrats spending money in the minority communities early in the race, they waited until the last 6 weeks to spend money with the Black and Hispanic media. This strategy essentially told the Black and Hispanic voters that they were not important enough to get engaged in early in the race. Some African American pastors told their congregations not to vote, because of the way they have been treated. Many Black candidates around the country lost their races, because the Democratic leadership refused to help fund their campaigns. There are many Black candidates at this point charging the Democratic leadership with racism. Many candidates think it is no accident that many of them received no money, but other candidates received millions of dollars. There is a fundamental problem in the Democratic leadership, and it starts with a lack of diversity at the top. The African American Democrats are the most dedicated group in the party, and they are the last group in the party to be recognized and funded. The Black media is considered a step child in the Democratic family, and the leadership can never find any money or resources for our community.

Instead of the Democrats spending money in the minority communities early in the race, they waited until the last 6 weeks to spend money with the Black and Hispanic media. This strategy essentially told the Black and Hispanic voters that they were not important enough . . . the election was terrible, the Republicans believe they have a mandate from the American people to stop President Obama. Instead of President Obama operating as the head of the Democratic Party, he hid in the shadows, and allowed party members to run away from his record. It makes no sense to allow party members to operate independently of each other without a united front. When the team is disorganized, the voters have no idea what the message is and who to vote for. From the very beginning of Rep. Debbie Wasserman chair ship, she never brought innovative and creative ideas to the party. As a result, the Democrats paid at the polls for her lack of leadership. For the last two years the Democrats have been lethargic and apathetic about the mid-term election, and no one appeared to be enthusiastic about the president’s message and record.

The entire National and State Democratic leadership needs to be immediately fired, and a new diverse leadership voted in, which reflects the new demographics in the country and party. It is time for bold and decisive action from the Youth, African Americans, Hispanics, Gays, and progressive Whites. If the Democrats plan to win in 2016, they must find their way back to enthusiasm integrity, inclusiveness, and a united message. The new chair person must be a smart visionary, who can organize a winning team, which can raise billions of dollars, and execute with a powerful strategy that resonates with the entire party.

here is no doubt that the GOP are masters at winning Elections. You got to tip your hat to them. Their Election Machinery is in place and effective. For a Party that attracts a lot of Nuts, they sure kept them off the grid this past Mid-Term. No talk of Vaginal Probes or Legitimate Rape and Mama Bear Sarah Palin was kept at a safe distance.

My only peeve with President Obama; there are times he takes too long to act, granted we don’t want a President like the last one - who acted on gut feelings. Yes, there are times you have to take the time to think things through. But, there are times the People expect you to act quickly and decisively - not every decision requires a Dissertation.

The GOP can win Elections ... Can they Govern? Last four years they have done little except block President Obama’s Agenda. For a Party that wanted to get its hands on Iraq’s huge oil deposits, Nationalize their Oil Industry and secure contracts for their buddies, they sure screwed up. 4500 Soldiers killed and Trillions lost.

Reminds me of a story.... (I’m approaching an age where everything reminds me of a Story) Twin sisters married - Same day joint ceremony & reception, honeymoon at the same hotel. Groom went to the room, knelt beside the bed and prayed for ten minutes, when he stood up

Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora Project he Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora Project is implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration. Its aim is to identify through survey responses how the Diaspora can contribute to the development of Jamaica, whilst also determining their needs and concerns. Increasingly, countries are recognizing the economic potentials of their Diasporas. The Diaspora can contribute to development through the creation of jobs, fostering competition, in-country business development, productivity and innovation. Connecting with and identifying capacities within Jamaica’s Diaspora through the use of appropriate actions that strengthen the government’s ability to engage and dialogue with the Diaspora will be the pillars of this initiative. The Government of Jamaica (GoJ) has already taken steps towards mobilizing the Diaspora for home country development. For example, there exists a structured Diaspora movement that hosts a biennial conference in Jamaica. Despite the government’s efforts, there is a lack of data on the stock of Jamaicans living overseas. Therefore, the principal aim of this initiative is to determine the location, interest and skills of those who comprise the Diaspora with a view of identifying opportunities for engaging them with the goal of facilitating the growth of Jamaica’s economy and human and social development. The ultimate aim in mapping the Diaspora is to survey their skills and compare them to skills gaps within Jamaica, then try to identify those individuals who can and are willing to fill these gaps (matching skills offer and demand). This will shape a more strategic and mutually beneficial relationship between Jamaica and the Diaspora, and will build the government’s capacity to better engage its Diaspora for the benefit of the country. Diasporas can build bridges between countries of origin and countries of destination, which calls for the design of local and global strategies aiming to harness this potential. The development potential of Jamaicans abroad cannot be understated, and this project endeavors to support their interest to contribute more than just remittances to their home country. Jamaica’s Diaspora is among the largest in the world and is estimated to be in excess of three million persons. The United States of America is the residence of more than half with approximately 1.8 million, the United Kingdom with approximately 650,000, and Canada with an estimated 300,000, with the remainder located in numerous countries across the globe.

laboration with the International Organization for Migration. Its aim is to identify through survey responses how the Diaspora can contribute to the development of Jamaica, whilst also determining their needs and concerns. Jamaicans and Jamaican Organizations in the Diaspora were strongly encouraged to take the survey on line at www.mapjadiaspora.iom.int. The launching involved a four city, three state tour during October 27th, 2014 through October 30th, 2014. The cities visited were Lauder Lakes, Orlando, Atlanta and Houston Texas. The tour was well received by the Jamaican Diaspora in the Southern USA and was evident by the over 700 persons present at the Town Hall meetings and the various meetings with Jamaica Diaspora community leaders and governmental officials from each city. Minister Brown’s delegation included Honorary Franz Hall – Consul General of Jamaica Southern USA, Mr. Lloyd Wilkes – Director Consular Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Wayne C. Golding Sr. Esq. – Jamaica Diaspora Board Member Southern USA, Ms. Keisha Livermore and Mrs. Ruika Brown of the International Organization of Migration. During the tour the Minister and his delegation used the opportunity to emphasize that the Jamaican Government wants to know about Jamaican Diaspora skills, interest and plans to return home. Important development projects underway in Jamaica were also introduced, highlighted and candidly discussed as business opportunity and the possible vehicle for career growth and prosperity for Jamaican Diaspora.

Simultaneously, with the growing number of Jamaican migrants around the world, there is a growing interest for them to retain their sense of identity and connection to home. Jamaica’s economy has benefitted significantly from remittance inflows from the Diaspora with an annual average totaling US$152 million between 2007 and 2011. However, remittance flows represent only one component of the Diaspora’s potential to significantly impact the country’s economy. This initiative will support new avenues in which the Diaspora can contribute to economic and social growth. On October 24th, 2014, the Honorable Arnaldo Brown, M.P., Minister of State in Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade along with a strong delegation launched the “Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora” project in the Southern United States. Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade implemented the Mapping Jamaica’s Diaspora Project in col-

When asked “why build playground equipment”, Attorney Gail Seeram explained her U.S. non-profit charitable organization has chosen to build playground equipment for orphanages, schools and community groups in Guyana for three (3) reasons: (1) play gives a child “escape” from whatever personal issue (neglect, abuse, poverty, etc.) that child is going through; (2) play gives a child social skills to learn to share and take turns; and (3) play gives a child exercise. 10 YEARS OF ENABLING HOMEOWNERSHIP: HSCLT

By Allie L. Braswell, Jr.

he Hannibal Square Community Land Trust (HSCLT), headquartered in Winter Park, celebrated ten years of empowering members of the Winter Park community through home ownership. The anniversary reception, hosted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce on November 6, 2014, served as opportunity to thank and recognize community partners, past and present residents and the City of Winter Park for their support and belief in the great work of the organization. Formed a decade ago to build a strong base for community action, capture the value of public investment for longterm community benefit, and to provide a method for delivering affordable housing to low and moderate income families for generations to come, the Hanni-bal Square Community Land Trust has served to provide homes to residents from varied backgrounds, careers and income while preserving the historical Hannibal Square area.

tive Director, and its dedicated board of volunteers and residents, the HSCLT has emerged as one of the leading developers of quality, affordable housing that serves the needs of a growing regional population, while ensuring the preservation of the rich cultural history of this area within Winter Park. Most recently, Denise, led the Land Trust’s efforts to raise five new homes on New England Avenue. The five homes on New England provide an excellent opportunity to future resident that desire to live, work and play within the City of Winter Park. Mrs. Weathers said, “These three bedroom homes offer all the amenities of homeownership, within walking distance to the center of the City proper and the region’s newly commissioned commuter rail service - Sunrail.” “Our resident’s careers range from a single parent financial analyst to a family of architects that serve on the board of the Land Trust.” Of the twenty homes within the Land Trust, Denise is directly responsible for overseeing the build out of seven of the homes, and the occupancy of 11.

Letters to My Lawyer™ MY HUSBAND IS NOT A TERRORIST!!! to be reunited with family members.

By Sasha Watson, Esq. Dear Lawyer, I am a US citizen, I filed a petition for my husband who is from Nigeria about 18 months ago. We provided all the documents requested and submitted the fee. My husband went to the interview but he was ultimately denied the visa. The Embassy provided a letter to us stating that my husband was denied the visa because he engaged in or was associated with terrorist activities but they would not provide any more details despite our numerous requests. My husband is not a terrorist and has never been involved any such activities. We were told there was nothing we could do in court to have this matter corrected and to clear my family’s name. My husband and I are very worried that the allegations may put his life at risk. We also would like to be reunited as a family for the sake of our kids that are also US citizens.

Please help, My Husband is not a Terroist Dear My Husband is not a Terrorist: Your case is very difficult and complicated and you should definitely seek the assistance of an immigration lawyer or a constitutional lawyer. Currently, the law provides that your husband has no constitutional right to entry into the United States given that he is not in the US nor has been a basis to claim constitutional protection. In cases like these, the law is that the decision of the consular official is final and is not subject to judicial review. As such, courts lack the power to review denials issued at the consular post and only congress has the power to make the rules for admission of aliens. The only exception to the rule of consular non-reviewability is when the denial somehow infringes on your rights as a US citizen. In that case the consular official must be able to state a legitimate and bona fide reason for his action. It will be difficult to determine whether the decision is legitimate if they have only given you a blanket reason for a denial without any specifics. This is what makes your case complicated. The US takes terrorism very seriously. However, it has become a basis to make denials without any supporting facts or evidence, under the guise of national security, especially in countries with large Muslim populations. “When I talk about these projects, I often talk about the memories and experiences that are created but it is also about the economic opportunity these Venues bring...and the results.” Just this week Forbes ranked Orlando as the number one city in the entire country for job growth! A performing arts center of this magnitude comes about because of the dedication and contributions of the people of the community and the businesses that are inspired by the vision. The real story here is how the arts center came together – it was the unprecedented commitment to partnership and collaboration that made today possible. That kind of collaboration is also a hallmark of our great city. Do you know what ‘Jerk’ is or where it originated from? f your answer is yes or no, there is one thing I’m sure of: no matter where in the world you’re from, chances are you’ve either had something prepared with jerk seasoning, heard of the word in terms of food preparation or attended a Jerk and Culture Festival locally or internationally. Well since we have your attention take a few minutes to get those questions answered or familiarize yourself once again with the origin of the word jerk “seasoning/sauce.” Jerk sauce or seasoning is a style of cooking native to Jamaica, in which meat is dryrubbed or wet marinated with a very hot spice mixture called Jamaican Jerk sauce sold in a glass bottle. Jerk seasoning is traditionally applied to pork and chicken, however, modern recipes also apply jerk spices to fish, shrimp, lobster, beef, sausage, lamb and tofu, just to name a few. Jerk seasoning principally relies upon two main items: allspice (called “pimento” in Jamaica) and scotch bonnet peppers. Other ingredients include cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nutmeg, thyme, garlic and salt. Let’s now take a trip in time. In reference to the history of Jerk sauce prior to Jamaicans using it to prepare food. One theory is that Jamaican jerk sauce is actually African since the origins of jerk pork can be traced back to the pre-slavery days of the Coromantee hunters of West Africa. When the British invaded Jamaica in 1655, the Spanish colonists fled, leaving behind a large number of African slaves. Rather than be re-enslaved by the British, they escaped into Jamaica’s mountainous regions where they mixed in with the local natives. From the start, changes had to be made to the jerk sauce since the Coromantee slaves found themselves in new surroundings on the island of Jamaica and were forced to use what was available to them. As a result, there was naturally a departure from some of the original spices used in jerk and new ingredients were added or substituted as necessary. One new addition to the recipe was the scotch bonnet pepper, which is largely responsible for the heat found in Caribbean jerks sauce today.

The cooking technique of jerking, as well as the results it produces, has evolved over time from using pit fires to old oil barrel halves as the container of choice. Around the 1960s, Caribbean entrepreneurs seeking to recreate the smoked pit flavor in an easier, more portable method came up with a solution to cut oil barrels lengthwise and attach hinges, drilling several ventilation holes for the smoke. These barrels are fired with charcoal, which enhances the spicy, smoky taste. Alternatively, when these cooking methods aren’t available, other methods of meat smoking, including wood burning ovens, can be used to jerk meat. However, oil barrels are arguably one of the most popular cooking methods for making jerk in Jamaica. Most jerk in Jamaica is no longer cooked in the traditional method and is grilled over hardwood charcoal in a steel drum jerk pan. Street-side jerk stands or jerk centers are frequently found in Jamaica, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, throughout the islands, and wherever, people of Caribbean descent live. Jerk cooking and seasoning has followed the Caribbean diaspora all over the world, and forms of jerk can now be found at restaurants almost anywhere. With the growth of this taste good finger linking sauce, came the emergence of the Jerk Festivals popping up all over the country with the excitement of a great family day (usually on a Sunday afternoon) filled with entertainment for the entire family, bounce houses, face painting for the kids, corporate sponsor vendor booths, arts and craft vendor booths from near and far, and last and by no means least the all-important food vendors with any meat that jerk sauce can enhance the taste of, not to mention the side dishes that can be purchased to enjoy with your choice of meat. They include fried plantains, rice, hard dough bread, deep fried cassava, known as bammy, jamaican fried dumplings (known as Johnny cakes), and festival, a variation of sweet flavored fried dumplings. I hope you had as much fun reading this, as I had writing it. Depending on the time of day that you’re reading this, it’s time to go out and purchase your jerk sauce seasoning and start cooking, or go to your favorite local restaurants and purchase your favorite Jerk dish. Life is meant to be enjoyed………sometimes it’s just the little things in life………

Pakistan is playing a test series against Australia at United Arab Emirates. For all intents and purposes, Pakistan’s home ground. Pines Hills Community Performing Art Center Hosts 3rd Annual Gala to ‘Educate and Participate Through the Arts’

n Saturday October 18th, the Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in the heart of the community, welcomed over 200 guests to enjoy a night of fine arts and to spotlight the talent that is being cultivated at the Center through the generous support of community leaders and corporate sponsors. Linda Hyppolite, board member and Gala Chairperson, masterfully planned the gala. Ryan Elijah, co-anchor of Fox 35 News, did an outstanding job emceeing the event that was attended by elected officials, State Representative Bryan Nelson and Town of Oakland Commissioner Joseph McMullen, both strong supporters of the arts. “This Center is a jewel in the Pine Hills community and I am honored to support the efforts of Mr. Kimbrough,” said Rep. Nelson.

“With such an impactful event to highlight the work of the Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center in promoting the arts in the lives of our children, my hope is that as we move forward, there will be more participation from the elected officials who serve this area,” said Mr. Kimbrough. The success of this year’s Gala was made possible by community partners: Bloomingdale’s, Orlando Health, Lake Apopka Natural Gas, Jack & Jill of America Orlando Chapter, Security Traders Association of Central Florida and others. Our mission is to use the arts to transform lives and communities through a comprehensive arts program. Our vision is to establish an Art District for the Pine Hills Community. Shine Performing Arts has been making arts education and artistic events accessible to the youth and adults within the Pine Hills community since 2007. In 2010, we established the Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center, where we provide activities such as cultural and performing arts presentations, community arts festivals, recitals, acting and music lessons. We provide gallery space for young artist to display their visual art and artistic expressions. The Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center was established through a community grassroots movement to provide a venue for underserved youth to be creative, and to celebrate community, diversity and the arts. We provide a safe haven for children to develop their gifts and character.

This year’s event, which was held at The Rosen Centre Hotel on International Drive, featured Dr. Falecia Williams, President of Valencia College’s West Campus, who delivered a profound speech promoting the utilization of the arts to save troubled communities and to ensure the quality of education needed for students to succeed. Gene Columbus, Executive Director of the Orlando REP Theatre, was a guest speaker and he helped to show how the mission and vision of Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center has positively impacted areas within, as well as outside, of the community. Local performer and singer Jasmine Forsberg wowed the crowd, along with performances from students of the Pine Hills For detailed information on events sponsored by Pine Hills Community Performing Arts Center visit www.pinehillsperforms.org Performing Arts Center.

Top 5 Video Picks 1 Artist: Ataklan Title: “Riddim In Ah Me”

Video Link: www.junglevibes.tv (Top 5 Video Picks) JVTV Review: 2015 Soca definitely has a new sound. Singersongwriter, Ataklan born in is currently heating up the airwaves nationally with this certified hit. It may seem like Ataklan is off key at certain notes, but he pulls it off smooth with the modern day rapso, mainly spoken word over reggae/soca tracks. Ataklan may be most notable for his song “Im a winner” featuring Flippo released in 2012. You can listen to more of Ataklan’s music at http://soundcloud.com/ataklan

2 Artist: Chase and Status featuring Cutty Ranks Title: “International”

Video Link: www.junglevibes.tv (Top 5 Video Picks) JVTV Review: What happens when you put the United Kingdom’s hottest dubstep producers alongside dancehall veteran Cutty Ranks. You will get the product of “International” a hip hop/ reggae blend with a twist of organized chaos. While gaining a huge international and EDC fan base, it is slowly catching on the mainstream radio stations in the U.S. For more tracks check out more of their music and collaborations at soundcloud.com/ chaseandstatus

3 Artist: Yankee Boy Title: “Nuh Fraid”

Video Link: www.junglevibes.tv (Top 5 Video Picks) JVTV Review: Soca artist, Yankee Boy is back with another hit titled “Nuh Fraid” mainly speaking on him not being afraid to catch a wine on a female. The video for this song is simply genius to have a cartoon made for the song. Yankee Boy’s most notable work is the 2011 smash hit “Head Nice / I am a drinker” featuring Patch and Mr. “Town Ting” Cassie. JVTV had the pleasure of recording some skits with Yankee Boy and Ki make sure you look out for that.

4 Artist: Olatunji Title: “Wining Good”

Video Link: www.junglevibes.tv (Top 5 Video Picks) JVTV Review: Singer, Olatunji Yearwood has a follow up hit song titled “Wining Good” which received a little flack about the “Indian girl with a black guy” in the music video. Aside from the nonsense the song outshined the hypocrisy and is currently in rotation most soca stations and mix cds. Olatunji is most notable for his work alongside Ki of Ki 3veni on the remix for “Runaway”. JVTV will catch up with Olatunji at his concert at Caribbean Connnections in Tampa. Look out for that footage.

5 Artist: Jah Cure Title: “Life We Live”

Video Link: www.junglevibes.tv (Top 5 Video Picks) JVTV Review: Jah Cure is one of those artists where the music is timeless and remains conscious no matter the era. Americans are patiently waiting for Cure to get his VISA to expand his tour dates to American soil. Cure’s first big break came in March 1997 when he released ”King in this Jungle” a duet with Sizzla Kulonji.
