In Our Workplace,

COLLABORATION DRIVES SUCCESS Carilion Clinic offers a Nurse Residency Program (NRP) to provide novice nurses the knowledge and skills necessary to transition into a professional nursing role. The program utilizes the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ curriculum, providing didactic group lessons while offering ongoing mentorship and support. What are the benefits of a Nurse Residency Program?

Who is eligible to participate in the Nurse Residency Program?

» Organizations with an NRP report increased critical thinking among new nurses, enhanced performance, increased involvement in the organization and earlier assumption of leadership roles. » New nurses report increased confidence in clinical decision-making, expanded clinical knowledge and enhanced ability to recognize and utilize appropriate resources.

» All new graduate R.N.s and R.N.s with less than one year of experience hired to Carilion Clinic inpatient areas

What is the format of the Nurse Residency Program? Does it replace traditional clinical orientation?

» Must have passed NCLEX and be licensed in Virginia (or compact state) How do I apply for the Nurse Residency Program? » All nurses with less than one year of experience hired in Carilion Clinic inpatient units, having met all the eligibility requirements, will participate in the NRP.

» Hospital and clinical orientation will occur the first two weeks of hire. Unit-based orientation will follow, lasting usually 6-12 weeks depending on experience. Upon completion of unit orientation (or possibly overlapping slightly), nurse residents will enter the Nurse Residency Program.

» Visit CarilionClinic.org/careers and search “New Grad” to complete the application for employment and enrollment to the NRP. There is not a separate application process.

» Nurse residents will be grouped into cohorts based upon hiring times.

THIS IS TOMORROW’S HEALTH CARE

» After graduating from the NRP residents will receive ongoing professional development support.
