Update from Clive Hi everyone. Welcome to this latest newsletter, as always packed with pictures of customers learning skills and enjoying themselves in our community. I am pleased to report that the COVID-19 virus has not affected any of our staff and/or customers. Of course, we should all ensure we continue to adhere to hygiene standards at this time, and (where possible) social-distancing. All our Support staff do a wonderful job in assisting customers in both these areas, and I thank them for the great work they do every day. The Foundation’s purpose-built property is on track to be completed and have customers move in mid-March. This has been an exciting, new, project for Carinbundi Foundation and with the ongoing support of the community in raising much-needed funds, we hope this is just the start of something that we can all be proud of – building ‘Forever Homes’ to support those needing such accommodation within the Bundaberg community. We are recruiting new staff to ensure we have the right amount of support needed for our growing customer base. My thanks goes out to our experienced, and professional, current staff who – I know – make the new staff feel welcome and valued, and help mentor them to give the best support possible to all our customers. I would like to pass on my thanks to all staff for the great work they do every single day. Without those on the front-line, and those working behind the scenes, Carinbundi would not be the successful, respected Disability Support Provider that we are today. The future is looking brighter as we ensure we are fully compliant with all Federal, State, and other Authority requirements, and we can expand our business in a managed way. Enjoy the reading here in this latest newsletter. Stay safe, and stay well. Clive Pearce, CEO

Bundaberg Rum Distillery tour.

Amber and Helen

Out for a drive to Bargara one Sunday, Terry was asked if he had ever gone to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Terry replied that he had not, but it was something he wanted to do since before his accident over 40 years ago. So we turned around and called into the Distillery to made a booking there and then for the following Tuesday. On arrival for the tour, Terry and carer Kym were treated to a private VIP tour of the distillery. Due to the walking involved Terry needed to use his wheelchair but Terry did not mind being pushed around. He went through the distillery and had a good look at the museum and gift shop. He even had a free sample at the end of the tour, which he enjoyed very much. Yes, he now has the T-shirt to prove it. Tarrah Terry can now tick that off his bucket list.

Darryl enjoyed a day out 4x4 driving in the National Park at Woodgate, it was the first time he has driven on the beach.

Stephen got a personal tour at Bundaberg Jabiru Aircraft. Mitch loves trucks and often does the ‘honk, honk’, hand gesture when he sees one. We went to visit Learn Easy Driving School and Mitch got to sit in the passenger seat of one of their mid-size trucks. He loved it. So Ken has arranged for Mitch to go for a long ride in the driving school’s larger semi-trailer .

Health & Wellbeing “The Score on Law” from the Health & Wellbeing Manager

June 2016 Mr James Green v Toll Holdings Ltd [2016] FWC 2790 Telling a ‘porky’ won’t bring home the bacon. It may even cost you the bacon. This is demonstrated in a case where an employee was ordered to pay his employer’s costs after running away from his own unfair dismissal hearing when it was revealed he had falsified a doctor’s report that he had relied on, to hide his drug use. The employer, Toll Holdings, dismissed the employee as a Yard Truck Driver after he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during routine drug screening at work. After failing the drug screening, the worker went to his doctor and underwent a second test, which allegedly came back negative. An application for an unfair dismissal remedy, claiming that his dismissal was unfair because Toll Holdings did not take into account the results of the second drug test which purportedly showed him to be drug-free. The ostensibly negative drug test result was to the witness statement, and the employee repeatedly relied on the negative result during cross-examination.

Unfortunately for the employee, Mr Green, Dr Chaudhry, who administered the second test, gave evidence during the proceedings that the second test had in fact come back positive. Dr Chaudhry produced the original test result document, which showed a positive result, and suggested that Mr Green had manipulated the version of the document he had relied upon to bring the unfair dismissal application. Shortly after the lie was uncovered, Mr Green gave instructions to discontinue the proceedings, left the courtroom, and did not return. The employer subsequently applied for costs. The Commission found that the employee's case was premised on fabricated evidence and a lie given under oath, and noted that:

"The lie was so central to the unfair dismissal remedy application that when

it was uncovered as a lie during the proceedings, the case crumbled and the [employee], to use the colloquial, “did a runner” leaving his representative to clean up the mess and discontinue the proceeding." The Commission ordered that the employee pay the employer's full costs (i.e. 'indemnity costs') of $18,618.31.

He starved to death in a brick.

Meet Stuart Hi Everyone my name is Stuart and last year I finished year 12 at Bundaberg Special School. I was the School Captain and helped run the school assembly, which I am very proud of. This year I have started going to Carinbundi’s Day Service 2 days a week where I have made many friends. So far while at Day Services I have helped Amber play and understand the Monopoly Electric Banking game. I am currently working with Andrew to develop his own version of Monopoly. I have also showed Debra some music videos on my computer which she enjoyed very much. With staff’s encouragement I have taught Emily how to Waltz she was very excited. Staff here continually encourage me to learn new skills and be happy.
