AMERICA’S FAVOR 32 years ago I bought a different Sport/Utility plane, flew it for 12 years and made seven trips from Salt Lake to Alaska and Western Canada. I enjoyed them all, but improvements were needed for this type of flying: longer range, more speed, and greater space. The gradient tint fades to clear on the bottom of the lenses making it easier to read a map or approach plate in low light conditions.

The AV-SUNS are made using the 4 FAA recommendations: 1. The lenses should be CR39 or glass. We use the light weight CR39.

2. The tint should be gray. Gray tint does not change the color of what you are looking at.

3. The tint should not be darker than 85%. Any darker and other planes and obstacles are hard to see.

4. Non-polarized. Polarized lenses cut the glare. Glare when flying is not a problem, but the glare from and approaching plane is the first thing you will see to avoid a mid-air. Plus with polarized lenses it is impossible to view or read a moving map or glass panel.

Zephyr Wins Again at Twenty One

Takes Top Spot in the 2013 Aviation Consumer Engine Shop Survey Zephyr Aircraft Engines Inc. opened it’s doors in June 1992 located on the Zephyrhills Florida municipal airport (KZPH) in the location of predecessors Zephyr Engine Service and Zephyr Aviation thus continuing a tradition of quality aircraft engine overhaul in that location back to the ‘60’s. President and co-founder Charlie Melot started a forty year career in the engine business at the well known Mattituck engine overhaul company in 1972. Herman Vollrath, Zephyr V.P. and Shop manager started with Zephyr Aviation in 1975 while in high school then went on to Zephyr Engine Service as lead mechanic. He has since assembled approximately 2,800 engines. Jay Earnest came to Zephyr from a south Florida competitor in 1998 and has assembled around 2,400 engines. Cylinder shop manager “LJ” Warren has run the cylinder shop for 12 years recently orchestrating

the purchase and installation of a Rotler SG-8 “state of the art” seat and guide machine.

Building on Charlie’s 20 years of management and high quality customer service combined with Herman’s near genius mechanical abilities their goal was to create a boutique shop offering the best possible quality and service at affordable prices. Since opening Zephyr has produced in excess of 2,000 engine overhauls and teardowns. While more than half of these are in Florida Zephyr has shipped engines to California, Washington, England, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.

Brown Aircraft Supply: Quality Doesn’t Cost ... It Pays!

Back in 1962, Brown Aircraft Supply began as an aerial photography and banner-towing company operated by Clarence Brown and Bob Franke under the name Brown Franke Enterprises.

Soon the sole operator, Mr. Brown merged his love of photography, planes and nature, taking to the skies with a camera in an Aeronca Champ. After a crash that left him in the hospital for months, his wife, Rachel, urged him to channel his enthusiasm into other projects. That led him to move the business in a new direction, becoming an F.A.A. repair station specializing in tire recapping. In time, his services were so in demand, Mr. Brown was flying all over the Southeast picking up tires that needed retreading.

As they saw the growing need for an aftermarket source for parts for small aircraft, they began producing rubber seals for a variety of uses in general aviation.
