MSMT Angels are an integral part of the ushering staff and have an active program to support the theatre’s cast and crew. Many of our members transport cast members and production staff to and from the airport, bus terminal, and train station. Others distribute posters and brochures for display in stores and restaurants throughout Brunswick and beyond. We organize welcome bags for the arriving cast and crew members. We also provide breakfast food for crews during changeover between shows. Additionally, being an Angel has very special rewards: ushering on opening nights with a guaranteed seat, attending cast parties and, best of all, having a chance to get to know the cast and crew who enrich our lives and our community. On March 13, 2020, I stood on a stage in front of a sold out audience at the Fulton Theatre and announced that we would be closing the current production of Kinky Boots due to a global pandemic. The show had been in performances barely over a week of a four-week run. I told that audience and our cast that we hoped to re-open the show later that Thespring.cast and orchestra went back to their homes, but the set and costumes remained in the theatre waiting to be used once again. A few months later we told the cast we hoped to bring the show back in the fall… and the set still awaited… then the world changed in ways that no one could imagine, especially for the arts. United States citizens were told that arts are considered “non essential” and all arts organizations fell silent for months. Still, we kept the set, props, costumes, and ghost light waiting in the hopes that the Kinky Boots company would someday return to inspire audiences once again. It took 16 months for us to finally realize that we needed to move on and “pivot” and the set came down, the props got stored, and the cast sign-in sheet was taken down.
has been a lot of conversation about the old saying that “the show must go on.” That’s the world of the theatre that I bought into. The show must go on because the arts must continue to engage our communities, to make them laugh and cry, to present the stories, like Kinky Boots, that encourage our audiences that “you change the world when you change your mind.” The shows must go on because arts matter. They are absolutely essential to our lives. And, as an artist, I am grateful to you, the audience and to MSMT for fighting through all the challenges to be here today.

I have been blessed and honored to collaborate with this remarkable company for 15 years. I have been humbled to stage over 20 productions, and I am thrilled to conclude this season with Kinky Boots. But this show is not just a chance to put on “another play”. This one is personal.
Slowly – very slowly – we all started to find our way through and fought to see the “artistic” light of day. Many brave and amazing politicians fought for the arts and found ways to support us so that we could begin to poke our heads out of the sand. Step-by-step we did little shows and events, and then, last summer, tried to really emerge. But the pandemic (and a new challenge, namely union rules that have been placed on our industry that are special and unique to the theatre) had other plans. For many, including MSMT, we fell silent again. Even now, two and half years later, we are fighting to bring the arts back in an atmosphere of never knowing from one day to the next whether we will be allowed to present the show. But we keep trying. And now… two and half years later, the sets are being rebuilt, the props and costumes are being restored, and a new group of story tellers will take up residency.

BOB CLINE – Casting Director. Bob has been the NY casting director for MSMT for the last 7 years. He was recently named one of Broadway’s 10 Best by BroadwayWorld.com. Bob has been the casting director for more than 70 national tours, TV, film, commercials, and over 35 regional theaters over the past 25 years. He also freelances as a director (In the Heights, (Fulton Theatre) and White’s Lies, starring Betty Buckley - Off Broadway, and is a Professor of Musical Theatre and Theatre at a few universities across the country. Bob is also the Director of Creative Development for Broadway Artist Alliance, teaches classes through the Actor’s Loft, loves a Masterclass, and spends his summers directing in Maine at Quisisana resort. CURT DALE CLARK* – Artistic Director. Curt is pleased to enter his 10th year as Artistic Director of Maine State Music Theatre. For obvious reasons, this is the most challenging season yet. Prior to taking the artistic helm of MSMT, he appeared in numerous productions for the theatre. Appearing at MSMT since 2005, his favorite roles include Javert in Les Misérables; The Beast in MSMT’s original Beauty and the Beast; Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone; Franz in The Producers; Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar; The UPS Man in Legally Blonde; Harold Hill in The Music Man; and The Tenor in The Irish And How They Got That Way (co-pro with Portland Stage). While at MSMT, Curt has directed productions of Fame; Godspell; A Grand Night For Singing; Tommy; and co-directed Always...Patsy Cline and Beauty and the Beast. In the past, Curt worked as the Vice President of Steven Dale Casting and also as co-owner of White Glove Theatricals and is now the co-owner of Clarabin Musicals. He is a board member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT). A graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, he is a huge Chicago White Sox fan as well as an avid gardner and Christmas tree designer.

CYNDI LAUPER (Music & Lyrics) is a Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning artist with over 30 sterling years and global record sales in excess of 50 million albums. With her first album, “She’s So Unusual,” Lauper won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and became the first female in history to have four top-five singles from a debut album. Since then, Lauper has released ten additional studio albums, been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and celebrated as a New York Times best-selling author. Overall, during her storied music career, Lauper has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, seven American Video Awards and 18 MTV Awards. In 2013, Cyndi Lauper became the first solo woman to win Best original score for her music and lyrics for Kinky Boots. Never one to slow down, next she wrote the score for the Broadway adaptation of the 1988 feature film Working Girl, contributed a song to the score of the Broadway musical Spongebob Squarepants, and launched her own fashion line – A Touch of Cyn– with Home Shopping Network.

Founded in 1794, Bowdoin enrolls approximately 2,000 students from across America and around the world who are admitted for their accomplishments and promise without regard for their financial circumstances. Among the nation’s most selective colleges, Bowdoin also enrolls a higher percentage of its admitted students than most of its peers. This year the College received a record 9,446 applications for about 500 spots in the Class of 2026, a five-year increase of 30 percent. Nearly 50 percent of Bowdoin students receive need-based financial aid with loan-free packages. The average financial aid grant (funds that do not have to be repaid) is currently $54,530 a year. Ongoing work at the College is focused on considering the knowledge, skills, and creative disposition every Bowdoin student should possess upon graduation. These include a reaffirmation of the core and timeless aspects of a liberal arts education and bolstering the humanities. It also includes developing integrated thinking and interdisciplinary learning, ethical judg ment and decision-making, and the capacity in Bowdoin students to engage in thoughtful, meaningful, and respectful discourse on tough issues. Bowdoin students learn from highly accomplished faculty in small classes and study in world-class facilities, including technologically advanced classrooms and laboratories, a state-of-the-art recital hall, two theaters and a center for art and dance, a celebrated art museum, and the new Roux Center for the Environment (2018) that is home to Bowdoin’s renowned interdisciplinary environmental studies program. In the spring of 2018, Bowdoin became one of a very small number of colleges and universities in America to declare carbon neutrality and recently announced an ambitious climate action plan to guide sustainability efforts at the College through 2042. In combination with the Roux Center, the recent expansion of the Schiller Coastal Studies Center (2020) on nearby Orr’s Island and the new John and Lile Gibbons Center for Arctic Studies (to be completed in early 2023) further enhance Bowdoin’s role as a leader in the teaching and study of the environment.
