We wanted to introduce you to the Great Lakes Electric Meter School (GLEMS) as a resource to enhance your metering professionals’ skills in safety and metering. GLEMS, as an organization, will be recognizing its 26th year in operation. As a volunteer organization, GLEMS is supported by manufacturers, electric utilities, and a host of volunteers. This year’s school, in Grand Rapids, MI (August 10-13, 2015), provides educational opportunities ranging from the most basic to very advanced metering challenges, as well distribution controls. The school’s six tracks are designed to foster safety, growth and understanding within each topic area. Throughout the school, the students are encouraged to visit our Exhibit Hall that presents the opportunity to visit over 40 vendors and experts in the metering area. The school has a large hands-on lab area where students are exposed to real world metering problems in a safe environment with trained instructors. Too often the rush to increase technology often leads to the misconception that your metering professionals need less training and technical knowledge. While the technology helps the bottom line it often reduces the individuals overall understanding and risk related to working with high capacity circuits, as well as being able to identify or trouble shoot metering problems. Many of these cases are lost in the daily operations while hiding safety concerns and revenue losses to the utility in the millions of dollars. The GLEMS School balances classroom training with Hands-On training opportunities that highlight the correct metering methods and provides a safe environment to demonstrate incorrect activities that could result in severe injury. We also offer a Residential and/or Commercial Customer Billing Certificate that requires specific written classroom exams and proctored Hands-On experience to assure you that the student has assimilated the material. We hope that you review the material in our GLEMS brochure as well as review our website at www.glems.org, and consider the wealth of knowledge that your personnel can be exposed to. Sincerely,

Larry Dalbey Chairman - GLEMS 2015

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION Be sure to ask your Track instructor for a CEU/PDH application. Attendees in Tracks 1-5 have the opportunity to earn 2.8 CEUs or 28 PDHs. Track 6 offers 0.3 CEUs or 3.75 PDHs. The CEU is a nationally recognized standard used to qualify non-credit learning experiences. A certificate will be issued only to participants who have completed the application and all track sessions.

RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL CUSTOMER BILLING CERTIFICATE In addition to earning CEUs or PDHs, students have the opportunity to earn a Residential or Commercial Customer Billing Complaint Investigation Certificate. Residential Certificate classroom study is integrated into Track 1. Commercial Certificate classroom study is integrated into Track 2. A comprehensive hands-on lab is planned for students to demonstrate their ability to resolve customer billing complaints. The course material covers multiple billing complaint situations with step-by-step investigations that lead to the resolution of each complaint. After completing the course, students will have the basic skills to investigate and resolve a billing complaint. Students are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses, stopwatches, voltmeters and/or meter calibration test equipment. Equipment will be provided for students unable to supply their own. Tracks 1 & 2 will require students to learn single/polyphase testing/troubleshooting.

GENERAL SESSIONS - EMPHASIZING METERING SAFETY Safety is a most critical issue for the utility industry. Don’t miss our exciting and informative general session covering workplace safety.

METERING DESIGN PROJECT AND HANDS-ON LAB SESSIONS Hands-on learning is an important aspect of the Great Lakes Electric Meter School.
