T

his time, before revealing the top themes of this edition, I would like to make a special thanks to each of you! I am immensely grateful for your continued support: for following us, sharing our contents, and supporting small businesses like companies you see featured within the magazine. Returning to the topics to be highlighted in this edition, at the beginning we have a new color palette that will hopefully bring you joy and inspiration as we continue living the unstable days. The selection highlights a range of shades that evoke nature and can work all year introducing comfort and relaxation inside our interiors. In addition to the Latest News, this issue also features the New places guide with its Addresses to annotate and, then visit. But, given the summer season, we couldn't help but help you choose (or at least inspire you) the hotel where to spend your holidays. A list of the Best Beach Hotels with the most beautiful Views in the world will blow your mind! There is nothing more beautiful than enjoying a beautiful view while savoring the sea breeze, at any part of the day. The residential projects of this edition are characterized by an elegant and sophisticated design, but if you like art (and maybe you know a little about it), you will notice the presence of various types of art works in the different houses. In each of them you can live an artistic experience: from a painter's house to the apartment inspired by the minimalist approach of Bauhaus to the Liberty style villa. Wish you a fantastic continuation of this Summer and happy reading!

I’m always interested in your opinion, send me any feedback or suggestions at zhanna@gandgmagazine.eu

#LATESTNEWS “The international community has made progress in gender equality and women’s empowerment, but much more needs to be done. By welcoming visitors from across the planet and from every walk of life, Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique, powerful platform that will drive the necessary attention to this issue.” - Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai

Gender equality Expo 2020 Dubai has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, unveiling creative content and programming for the Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier that will celebrate women change-makers around the globe. Celebrating the significant – and often forgotten – contributions of women, the pavilion will demonstrate an important principle: when women thrive, all of humanity thrives. It will highlight important contributions women have made in advancing societies, as well as the challenges women still face, especially as the world navigates through the COVID-19 pandemic and works toward a more sustainable future. Breaking stereotypes and deconstructing misconceptions on women’s roles, the pavilion will raise awareness by showcasing both female and male contributors to women’s empowerment and gender equality, inspiring visitors of all ages to become change-makers within their own communities and beyond. www.expo2020dubai.com

Dexamenes Seaside Hotel / Greece

The history of Dexamenes dates back to the early 1900s, when the concrete tanks were built directly on the coastline, to store wine for export overseas. K-studio took care of converting the site into a hotel: the intention was to showcase the strong history and raw beauty of the existing buildings and compliment their brutality with elegant interventions. A palette of concrete, steel, timber and engineered glass ensures that new construction elements tread lightly, leaving the existing buildings relatively untouched and retaining their strong presence. The luxurious 4 courtyard-facing bedrooms are laid out to create privacy whilst beachfront rooms maximize their sea-views and are connected by a wide promenade path along the edge of the beach. Address: Kourouta Beach - Amaliada, Greece

A steep beach on the rock that flows into the water, and a stainless-steel ladder leading directly in the Mediterranean water. The Tuba has 5 bedrooms, all of which are on the water, and a duplex that can accommodate families. Through the windows, the harbor of Marseille stretches its palette of unique colors, from dawn to dusk. Address: 2 Boulevard Alexandre Delabre, 13008 Marseille, France

Alila Manggis / Indonesia

Erosantorini / Greece

Paola Navone, has brought her prodigious gifts to Erosantorini, creating quintessentially Greek interiors and open-air “salons” that exude an effortless barefoot chic. Address: Main Road Fira - Pyrgos 84700 – Santorini, Greece

Zannier Hotels Bãi San Hô / Vietnam

Interiors are dotted with Vietnamese artefacts, paintings and local silk prints. The resort features 73 spacious villas which embody the pristine simplicity of their natural surroundings. Every private pool and terrace are as regenerative as their own private setting – from traditional rice paddy fields, dramatic hilltops or perched at the edge of the resort’s powder white beach. Address: Hòa Thạnh, Phú Yên Province, Vietnam 52 | G&G _ Magazine

Peliva Nature & Suites / Greece

Designed by G2_Lab and built in a privileged location in the southern part of Pelion, in an old grove with an unparalleled view of the Pagasitic Gulf, Peliva Nature & Suites offers a high-quality place to escape, relax and stay. There are 3 suites: Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, borrowed their names from the goddesses of mythology, each claiming a uniqueness through the beauty, the power and the nature’s wisdom. The stone walls, built with the same from the soil, the pergolas, the visible timber of chestnut and rattan, the plants, all create a unique atmosphere with the nature’s colours and scents blending in a modern aura of tranquility and relaxation. Big, spacious terraces, private sitting areas with hydromassage, big outdoor dining and barbeque areas for relaxation, pool view, all perfectly integrated with nature, invite the visitor to discover this Greek harmony. Address: Agios Athanasios, Magnesia, Greece

Constance Moofushi Maldives / Maldives

The interiors renovated by Studio MHNA are inspired by the surrounding landscape, the ocean’s endless shades of blue, the fine sandy beaches, and the lush vegetation. With a new and revived ambience, the hotel feels closer to nature and champions the resort’s heavenly setting. Using bold tones and audacious materials, Studio MHNA’s novel design is a signature concept of co-founders Marc Hertrich and Nicolas Adnet. A particular attention deserves the beach bar with a “painted and repainted” style with a pastel palette. In addition, the Seashell garlands, wooden floats, and Adirondack chairs bring a poetic charm to the setting. Address: South Atoll, Alifu Atoll, 00200 - Moofushi Island, Maldives

SALA Samui Chaweng Beach Resort / Thailand

Designed by Onion, the 138-room resort has a panoramic view of Chaweng Beach on Thailand’s third largest island. The open courtyard functions like a bright living room. There is not a particular spot to enter the swimming pool: daybeds and umbrellas around have no direction. The swimming pool’s floors gradually slant to the niche wall. Each niche fits the human scale for a reason of privacy. Nothing blocks the sea view is an exclusive experience for the guests. Besides, at the lobby, one can see the sea right away. This is how we perceive the sense of luxury. Luxury isn’t about what we build; rather, it’s about the space that we decided not to build. Address: 99/10 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach, Ko Samui District, 84320 - Surat Thani, Thailand 54 | G&G _ Magazine

Baja Club / Mexico

Apple Via Del Corso in the heart of Rome

Situated in one of the most vibrant streets in Italy’s capital, Apple Via Del Corso brings the historic Palazzo Marignoli back to life. Inspired by its colorful past, the design reveals the building’s fascinating and multilayered history by unveiling painted ceilings and frescoes from the 1890s juxtaposed with modern graffiti artworks from the 1950s. Celebrating the murals, hidden from view for decades, the new design creates a space where the city and history truly meet. The design is the result of a close collaboration between Apple’s design teams and the integrated engineering and design team at Foster + Partners. Address: Via del Corso 181-188, 00186 – Rome, Italy

The joy of the project was to peel back and rediscover the layers of history throughout the building and revealing its eclectic past, which ranges from the historic painted ceilings and the frescoes by Fabio Cipolla, both from the 1890s, to the more recent graffiti artworks by Afro Basaldella. Palazzo Marignoli has seen so much throughout its history, and we feel truly privileged to be able to be part of its newest phase of life. Especially, as Rome is one of my favorite cities in the world."

Arie, the latest addition to the Goudvisch family

Studio Modijefsky was asked to design a modern ‘brown cafe’, inside a building dates to 1876, located in Amsterdam’s ‘De Pijp’ neighbourhood. These legendary Amsterdam bars were originally created by people living on the ground floor of buildings who opened up their homes to serve food and drinks in order to supplement their low incomes. They got their name from the incessant cigar and cigarette smoke that discoloured the walls. To recreate the atmosphere of these days the designers concentrated on the popular materials of the time: copper, terrazzo, tiles, fabrics, and wood. Darkened beech is used throughout, creating a strong contrast with the aged copper and red marbles of the front bar.

Showroom project

The space is designed by Zemberek Design for a well-established textile company, Ulupınar Tekstil. The showroom areas are designed to host fashion designers of retail brands. Therefore, one of the important design criteria was, to procure the feeling of "serenity" inside in every phase of the visitor experience, in contrast to the dense city pattern that the building appertains outside. Throughout the building, it was intended to establish a pleasant circulation scenario for the visitors through the curvilinear walls that do not dictate its route but direct it with its natural flow. Weisses Kreuz: Rendezvous with Mozart

noa* network of architecture completed the architectural and interior project of the Altstadthotel Weisses Kreuz located in Innsbruck's city centre, inviting its guests to indulge in a refreshing and colourful journey through time with 48 new rooms and suites. This 1460s building is narrow and elongated towards the rear, its front-facing arcade blends perfectly with the historical fabric of the city. It is not only irregular forms that evoke history. Murals discovered during the project tell stories whose authors remain unknown. The Weisses Kreuz is making a fresh start with a new concept, and at the same time it is full to the brim with surprises and secrets. The dreams and anecdotes of times gone by extend all the way to the loft, whose glass openings put the starry sky within reach. In addition, during the redesign, a loft level was added to the existing six storeys, which have been extended with delicacy and professional finesse, while respecting the conservation rules. Address: Herzog-Friedrich-Straße 31 - Innsbruck, Austria

On the new sixth floor, the first thing they will notice is a dominant piece of furniture in the long room: a 13metre-long, custom-made brass table with baroque ornamentation. The table is further enhanced by the smoked oak floor, and the brass provides a regal contrast with the warm dark blue saturating the room. 66 | G&G _ Magazine

Ferrari inaugurates the new Flagship Store in Maranello

Directly adjacent to the factory, a new shopping experience and a new design concept embody the values of innovation, style and performance in a contemporary reinterpretation of the excellence and heritage of the brand, through a multi-dimensional and multisensorial space imbued with the authentic Italian spirit of the Cavallino. Innovation, style and performance are the starting and finishing lines of the new store concept designed by Architects Sybarite of London, which together with the Maranello team has shaped a new identity concept with a strong visual and emotional imprint, guided by the constant interplay between technique and tradition, product and evocation, elegance and boldness. At the heart of the new concept is the idea of reinforcing the aesthetic refinement and advanced performance of the Ferrari world in a seamless flow of energy, movement and circularity that invites visitors to continually explore every detail and dimension, following a trajectory of quality and excellence through the style and spirit of the Cavallino. Address: Via Abetone Inferiore 19, 41053 - Maranello, Italy

Along the front façade, a terracotta colonnade outlines and frames the outer perimeter of the building, echoing the traditional colour of the roofs of Modenese houses and the historic domes in Italian architecture. Behind this, a curved glass wall in graduated shades of red shields allows a glimpse of the interior, recalling the sinuous trajectory of F1 circuits and the perpetual motion of cars on the track. At the rear of the boutique, the white clay brick walls are designed as a powerful backdrop for the garments and accessories of the new collections - an original metaphor for the modelling of Ferrari prototypes using a process that involves creating the initial form in clay and then in metal.

MAD Bars House in the historical center of Lviv

Designed by YOD Group, MAD Bars House is a six-storey venue with a unique concept that is reflected in its interior. It gathered 5 bars and restaurants under one roof. The interior of MAD evinces respect for local culture and craft traditions. The designers left some brick walls partly uncovered to highlight the value of the XVII century building. The designers manifested the idea of increasing the degree of alcohol with every floor by the design of the staircase. Every landing of the stairs has a mosaic pixel art that shows what alcohol percentage is inherent to a particular floor. Address: Shevska Street 10, 79000 - Lviv, Ukraine

"We have created not just a venue, but a new unique restaurant format. It is possible to adjust MAD Bars House to different scales, regions, and cultural features. It is a place where bars perfectionists that are mad about their work are gathered." On the second floor, you can see custom-made glass lamps, vintage Bauhaus chairs, and high shelves with wine bottles from all over the world. One of the walls there is decorated with wooden casting molds, bought from a local glassmaker's workshop

T

he inspiration for this project came from the building itself. The creativity arises at the encounter between the rediscovered space, simple, rude and poor and the new function of the space. +CStudio Architetti found solutions to blend and balance the ancient and original structure with the new and contemporary parts, respecting and preserving all the 18th century elements. The client needed a studio where to receive his customers and where to create his paintings, but also a place where to live, so that fitted to all the contemporary living

necessities. The renovation begins with a 7.20 x 7.60 meters wide anti-refectory dated back to end of 1700. At a third of the longer wall there is and arch that divides the negative space from the floor to the vault breaking the original harmonious scheme. Once the structure has been verified in its original and progressively added parts, the architects decided to work on this confined space not with an impossible subtraction of the later parts but adding a box of functions as the shower with toilet and kitchen.

The main room serves as both a living room and a dining area. Here, the choice of the furniture is based on the fact that the client is also a modern antiques collector, passionate about elements from '50s. Therefore, a red sofa, a couple of armchairs and the glass dining table do not go unnoticed, together with the home accessories that play the important role in completing the whole décor. There is also a fireplace in iron inside the long window with single hung closure with pulley and stone counterweight. But the focal point of the space is Sergio Fiorentino’s primary

color - Ultramarine Blue, that appears in his paintings. For the painter, this color is the symbol of sacredness and rebirth, in line with the architecture, simple and never ostentatious as his art and personality are. The kitchen is a monolithic block of 6mm burnished iron sheets with invisible doors. The hinges are studied in detail and handcrafted. Inside the block all the appliances take place. The entrance door in wood has been kept although behind it a glass sliding door has been added. This glass door when opened hides inside the bathroom’s wall.

As in the whole house, the materials used in the bathroom are the stone and iron. Indeed, the walls are in iron, covered in old cement tiles while the sink remembers the old stoups of the churches. The open shower is protected by a glass with view on the studio. The box creates a mezzanine floor for a bedroom to where is possible to access through the minimal and essential stairs. The material used are metal foil and black burnished iron, glass and recycled old wood intentionally chosen to clearly identify the box as extraneous element compared to the historical and original context. The philology of renovation in this sense joins the two interventions and make them live in a contemporary world made of subtractions on one hand to make the originality of the place live and additions on the other to give the housing comforts never blending them each other.

T

he couple and their 4 young children lived already in the house before the renovation, and although the architect recommended demolishing the house from its foundation for the sale of time and budget, they chose to cling to the sentimental aspect of the house, deciding to preserve the shell and make the necessary interior changes to suit changing needs and contemporary and kicking design. Working with a basement and 2 floors, this house came to life with children's suites, an elegant master suite, gym, study and family corner, all in response to the customers' requirements detailing functions as well as design. At the opening of front gate, massive lighted concrete paths are revealed, rising one by one to the front door. Around them is minimal vegetation and above them is a thin metal roof in a graphite shade, which looks like a leaf breaking out of the wall. Its size is the same as the size of the pavement below, thus creating with it an interesting play of masses and colors. At the entrance of the house, a raw 82 | G&G _ Magazine

concrete axis that crosses the house was exposed - beginning on the floor of the floor, continuing to the floor of the courtyard, and ending in the pool. To the left of the door is the carefully designed kitchen for a professional chef - 2 refrigerators and 2 stainless steel ovens protruding on top of the tall graphite cabinets, above which circles of the same color have been opened for air conditioning outlets. The air conditioner itself is hidden in the ceiling of the guest toilet, which is hidden behind the lobby of the coat closet. Opposite it is the island in a titanium finish with a metallic cloud, which is divided into a work surface and a seating surface in the form of a floating wooden

top, with light bar stools combined with iron and wood. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining area, which is dominated by a wooden table with a huge plate that sits on thin legs. Around it are gray chairs, standing on slender legs, which reinforce the strong design motif throughout the house, whether in architecture or furniture - a display of massive pallets held thanks to thin elements, showing a play of weight and lightness, mass and airiness. The big star of the corner is the wine refrigerator, the embodiment luxury, which features a display of glasses and various bottles of fine alcohol that tie in in together the image of a good and enjoyable life.

84 | G&G _ Magazine

On the outside of the house, the family wanted a space to host their friends like kinds. As such, an outdoor dining area stands next to an outdoor kitchen with a

black concrete surface that diffuses cooking aromas in the yard. It overlooks a flat pool, surrounded by wild landscape architecture that is not subject to the rules of order and stands in contrast to the neat grid of paving. It is this contrast between order and wildness that creates interest on the one hand, and balance on the other, the yard turns into a place designed for recreation. At the request of customers, the outdoor living area was designed for hospitality that does not depend on the seasons - above it is a ceiling that opens and closes with walls that go up and down at the touch of a button. In addition, floor heating was installed and is surrounded by heaters in the pergola that surrounds it, a combination of elements that allows use on cold days. In front of this, inside the house, is the interior living room which consists of a light sofa to soften the black around it, and armchairs in a cloudy cognac hue. The furniture sits on a zigzag patterned rug that creates freedom inside the neat grid, adding joyful vividness as well as the decorative cushions.

The ascent to the rooms floor and the descent to the basement take place in a kind of metal vortex that combines stairs, shelves, a railing and a work area, all in one work that stands in space like a piece of art. The iron element hangs from the ceiling in thin rods that reinforce the central idea of planar plates, which fold and create movement in space. These rods ascend to the master suite where white dominates the architecture as well as textiles and furniture, with parquet as a substrate that contributes to the warmth of the space. The closet next to it is made of huge glass cabinets, in the center of which stands a white carpentry in a personal design for sitting and storing ties and shoes. The parquet goes into the bathroom, and above it hovers a sink cabinet with elegant wall faucets, all wrapped in a tight wall cladding with a cloudy graphite iron look, a testament to the good life that stays not only in public but makes sure to penetrate every function and use of space.

OF ART

T

he owner of the apartment has a career in global finance that has taken her to far off places and allowed her to acquire an extensive art collection along the way. She asked to transform the apartment (previously owned by a fashion photographer with flamboyant taste) into a Bauhaus inspired space she could call home and showcase her collection. To highlight her collected works by artists including Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, Joan Miro, and Ellsworth Kelly, the walls and baseboards throughout the apartment were painted white. The apartment is designed in such a way that space is the backdrop for the art collection versus vice versa. While simplicity was key to allow the artwork to stand out, the designers incorporated minimalist design details such as curved corners and simple finishes. Wood flooring and custom wood millwork, including a builtin entry bench and living room bookshelves, mix with solid stone to give the space warmth amidst the white backdrop. Here, the fireplace is hard to miss. It is a gas unit installed within a customstone enclosure and chimney with rounded edges. A pop of color in the built-in bookshelves serves as a nod to the basic graphicness of Bauhaus design while the decorative lighting fixtures become a part of the art. The client wished to maintain a

relationship between her living space and nature. Although nature is not as easy to come by in NYC, she found a home that overlooks Central Park with a terrace as an extension of the apartment. New sliding doors and windows with minimal frames

were installed to take advantage of the views and natural light. Working with a landscape designer, a terrace garden and modern outdoor furniture were the final elements to create a transition between the apartment and the park.

The kitchen with an island and a couple of stools goes well with the white walls creating a good contrast. Next to it there is an accurate dining area made up of a table with a glass top and gray chairs, thus keeping in touch with the kitchen. There is also an elegant chandelier, but this acts more as a nice home accessory than a source of light as sliding doors leading to the terrace have been installed here as well. Therefore, natural light spreads throughout the room. From the living room a curved staircase leads to the second floor where along the corridor there are the interesting lamps connected by a red thread. And even in this space, the walls are filled with the different paintings.

The bedroom maintains a simple home design. Here the environment is welcoming thanks to the warm colors of the paintings and fabrics, and the use of wood. The two vertical windows, also with a view of the park, illuminate the room making it very

bright. This atmosphere is also present in the bathroom next door where wood, white color and natural light always prevail, except for the splash of color of the blue of the shower tiles.

Pine In the Russian capital of Moscow, SAOTA, a South African architecture studio known for advancing the possibilities of 20th-century modernism, designed a house with a revolutionary outwardlooking approach to the city's architectural tradition.

N

estled between the pine woods on an island in the Moskva River, this contemporary home represents the tradition of the terrace with its emphasis on an outdoor orientation, but in a context and climatic condition vastly different from the origin of the type. Glazing systems have advanced to a point where they can effectively provide insulation in the Russian winter extremes, which solved the climate challenge. The real challenge was to mediate a dialogue between the two traditions to resolve the new approach harmoniously in the Russian context. The design addresses the urban architectural character of the capital city and the pocket of natural pine forest on the island, something of a rarity this close to the historic centre. The pinewoods that the site overlooks are thus a significant motivation for the design's open, outwardfacing orientation. This approach allowed SAOTA to explore a new kind of architecture that invites as much natural light as possible during the dark winter months to compensate for the lack of sun and mitigating its absence. It's a design that makes comfortable spaces to appreciate the external conditions beauty, harsh as they may be. The architectural premise is one of contrasts: the street frontage's heavy protective presence speaks to the capital's monolithic architectural character, built to resist the extremes of heat and cold, which can vary 70 degrees between seasons. Thus, the public character of the house provides a contemporary interpretation of the city's architectural character. Around the main entrance is a sculptural buckle. This backlit bronze-clad feature façade not only acts as a visual prompt towards the entrance opening on the otherwise relatively featureless façade but also

98 | G&G _ Magazine

communicates the promise of the luxury and light interiors in the private spaces beyond the threshold. It heightens the experience of crossing from the public realm to the private domain with its predominant treed landscape. From the garden, the architecture presents a contrasting façade. Open fragmented glass walls invite views of the pines in, blurring the distinction between what's inside or outside. The outdoor terraces and the faceted, angular façade create courtyards and external rooms that facilitate an interaction between landscape and architecture that is a departure from the local tradition. During the summer

months, it’s possible to live outside as you might in South Africa or California. In winter, the interiors can celebrate the beauty of the snowy landscape and pines in an altogether new approach to the harsh conditions. SAOTA used a silver-grey metal cladding on the exterior that complements and enhances the green of the plants and trees of the surrounding forest, providing an immersive landscape experience. The facade takes on the quality of natural material itself, highlighting a bespoke crafted quality in its detailing that speaks to the unique tailor-made approach to the house's design and furnishing, especially in the interior design.

Inside the house, natural materials predominate, from exotic marbles, some backlit, to metal and timber surfaces that bring softness and warmth. All this is the result of the collaboration of between SAOTA, an interior design studio ARRCC and Max Kasymov, Moscow interior design studio. In detail, ARRCC proposed the concept idea for the interiors, and Max Kasymov developed the project further and oversaw its realisation. Supervising and coordinating the contractors and suppliers on the building were carried out by the Moscow studio as well as selecting materials, furniture and lighting. It also designed and manufactured bespoke furniture in their own workshop, being able to realise all the ideas and solutions proposed by its collaborators. ARRCC maintains a dialogue with the architecture in their interior design details. It relied on its South African furniture partner, OKHA for some of the villa’s products like the Nicci Swivel armchair by pink shades, the Mesh side table and the To Be One lamp in the living area. They are also responsible for the custom-made brass frame around the television that 100 | G&G _ Magazine

resonates with its ledge's faceted jewel-like form below it. Also, in dining zone there are OKHA’s pieces as the Tofu dining chairs, even if here the eye immediately falls on the majestic chandelier above the table. Next to it we find the marble kitchen island accompanied by Frame barstools while the rest of the kitchen is hidden behind doors along the entire wall.

102 | G&G _ Magazine

A black swirling sculptural staircase contrasts playfully with the angular architectural elements where they converge, resolving them in an organic flourish and signaling a subtle change of character between the more public sociable living space on the ground level and the bedrooms upstairs. Softer, warmer materials predominate the night area, where the more open, flowing,

and interconnected spatial approach gives way to private spaces with a more relaxed, casual atmosphere. The villa’s overall experience suggests that SAOTA has mediated a new relationship between Russian domestic architecture and its landscape and climate. The modern villa's life-enhancing potential, realised in more temperate climates, made possible in this more extreme setting.

MODO architettura + design presents the total renovation project for a residential Liberty style villa organized on 3 levels and surrounded by a stunning garden, located on the Livornese seafront. Interior design project characterized by an elegant mixture of classic and modern languages featured by some pop contaminations.

This house is part of a group of buildings called "eclectic villas" that were built around the 1930s as summer residences for the Livornese who lived in the city. It combines Renaissance, Gothic, Romanesque and even Moorish elements and they differ in detail: small columns, loggias, turrets and friezes. In the early 1800s, having a summer stay in Livorno was almost considered a status symbol. The city was in fact a fashionable seaside resort, an ideal hospitable center for the national and international upper and middle bourgeoisie. Numerous bathing establishments arose along the promenade that, at first glance, seem are forty years older than their actual age. Taken together, they bear witness to a provincialism so naive and convinced as to be disarming and even sympathetic. On the urban plan, the buildings carry out the definitive overcoming of the customs walls; in terms of construction, they highlight an eclectic Liberty style. The author of all the drawings (whatever the signatory of the projects) was Cioni, a very talented draftsman without any qualifications, used by many professionals in the city. Cioni copied projects that appeared in modern architecture magazines, mostly derived from the Viennese school. Cioni's name would not even appear in an official document, if it were not mentioned in the minutes of the Council Works Commission (where he is incorrectly referred to as an architect) as the designer of the Palazzo delle Poste, but not executed. The architects have tried to combine modern design with a structure with a great historical charm. The owners, she is a Garden Designer, and he is a lawyer, lived already on the first floor before the renovation, therefore the house was already in good condition. The first aspect 106 | G&G _ Magazine

of the project was to reorganize the three floors of the building according to the new needs of the owners. From the entrance the two arched openings that frame the small living room totally covered with wallpaper with the neon writing "never give up" are the protagonists. The illustration on the paper, which has nature as its subject with trees and various vegetation, creates a pleasant sense of continuity by merging with the garden behind the windows. Having a lot of open space and very well cared for, the entire living area was moved to the ground floor (which was on the first floor before the

intervention) on the request of the clients to give importance to the garden through the large openings from the two living rooms. In the first, the protagonist is the Flap sofa with its curved shapes and Paesaggi Italiani wardrobe by Edra. A particular detail in this space is the frame above the door leading to the sitting room obtained from the headboard of an old bed, modified to a design by the architects and lacquered in optical white.

Next to the first living room you can see the dining room. In the center there are Knoll oval Tulip table in black marquinia marble and the black chairs by Vita, accompanied by Flos chandelier. As in all the rooms on the first floor, the windows overlooking the garden make the environment clean and bright while the Italian herringbone parquet from solid Afromosia gives a cosy touch. The design of the second living room is simpler and more minimalistic: a sofa, a smoking table, a floor lamp form. The interesting, however, is the wall artwork depicting the owners, made on request by a tattoo artist from Livorno.

Like the rest of the living area, also the kitchen was moved from the first floor to the ground. It has a sophisticated and sober appearance thanks to the use of neutral colors. A touch of lucidity is given by the wall covered with grey Wig Wag tiles by 41zero42. A Calacatta marble staircase takes us 110 | G&G _ Magazine

upstairs. In addition to a blue-colored painting, attention is drawn to a wall lamp by Artemide "Go To the Mirror" which when turned off is a mirror, while when turned on it is a flag. The first floor opens with a contemporary style corridor: an antique family table, a bench and a framed mirror. While the

touch of liveliness is guaranteed by the colored vintage suspension lamp in Murano glass. The colors continue in the living room with terrace. A bright green sofa together with the colorful textures of the carpet and cushions create a pleasant and cheerful atmosphere.

Following the style of the whole house, some vintage pieces have also been included in the bedroom, also open to the outside with a terrace. The furniture is completed with small home accessories, paintings and white curtains. Moving the kitchen from the first to the ground floor, a free room has been

obtained. On the request of the clients, here, the architects projected a bathroom that is adjacent to the master bedroom, which is also open to the outside with a terrace. The studio has created a bespoke wooden cabinet handcrafted which goes perfectly with Onyx marble wall cladding, the same also used in the shower.

A NEW DISPLAY In the generally accepted consciousness of people, there is a stable image of a man and the perfect space he should live in. While working on the new project in Kiev, YODEZEEN studio decided to rethink the ingrained idea that a man’s home is characterized exclusively by dark colors, an abundance of metal, and a glass of whiskey on the table. OF MALE INTERIOR 114 | G&G _ Magazine

The project consists in the design of an apartment of the 19th floor located in the residential complex “Skyline” of the green Pechersk district, Kiev's historic downtown. The entire area of the apartment, 127 square meters, is occupied by a master bedroom with an adjoining bathroom, a dressing room, a guest bedroom with a bathroom and a kitchen combined with a living room. The client, a young man, fully trusted the vision of the designers, and therefore the project was executed exactly as it was envisioned: including the choice of pedestals and lamps. The main task was to create a calm interior where a young man could spend his leisure before setting new goals. The whole apartment is made in a nude palette with accents on natural materials. better. The sophisticated calm palette of the interior is entirely equipped with a variety of iconic Italian furniture. The Luxurious Flexform corner sofa and B&B armchairs and coffee table are placed in the living room. A sense of majesty in this quiet interior is achieved not solely by the abundance of stone and designer furniture. To emphasize the objective of this apartment being made for a man, the design team chose massive art object in the form of a statue to be set as soon as you enter the living area. It's the bronze statue by the Ukrainian sculptor Egor Zigura called “Colossus Holds Up the World”. There is a custom island of stone and metal that smoothly blends into the dining table in the space that the kitchen shares with the living room. The tall Poliform bar stools on the sides, instead of a full dining area, is a technique that sets the tone for a slightly dynamic atmosphere.

As for sleeping areas, the master bedroom and the guest bedroom are made in a somewhat ascetic style: nothing will distract the owner or his guests from a good night’s sleep. In the master bedroom, the designers opted for Bonaldo bed and light by Juniper. Besides, here, the sculpture “Space Around” by another famous Ukrainian creator Nazar Bilyk inclines to a newcomer that one will harmoniously fit into the created interior since a person is the center of a space. To add a deep, dark accent, the 118 | G&G _ Magazine

studio opted for exquisite graphite glass for the wardrobe with dynamic sliding partitions. In the guest bedroom, in addition to bed by Interia and Poliform armchair and side table, there is YODEZEEN studio's recognizable drop lamp by the Flos brand. In both rooms, everything is accompanied by textiles and pleasant textures.

The studio’s team was traditionally inspired by stone in this project and designed also decorative slabs for framing walls and windowsills in the guest bathroom and master bath. 120 | G&G _ Magazine

The idea of the whole interiors project was to reveal the concept of calm and subtle masculinity inside these walls. The designers didn’t want to focus on a purely “all-male” manifestation but to create a cozy and trusting atmosphere.
