Age Friendly Partner The National Theatre and Cast’s partnership brings the world premiere of The Caucasian Chalk Circle (p19) starring 100 local people alongside a professional cast and live band. The amount of hard work, determination, time and support that the community and the teams involved have brought to the production is truly inspiring; the magic and the power of community spirit is clearly reflected on the stage and we can’t wait for you all to see it for yourselves. For the first time, Cast will receive Colourscape, an all-day, walk-in experience of colour, light, space and music, taking place in Sir Nigel Gresley Square (p11). It’s the perfect family activity and an extraordinary art installation all rolled into one! We’re thrilled to continue to support some of Doncaster’s favourite companies as they return to Cast or debut new work. Bonnie and the Bonnettes promise to wow audiences in their The BonBons Cabaret (p7), a fun, fabulous and flamboyant night out, and the bold and brilliant one woman show The Indecent Musings of Miss Doncaster 2007 (p8) in May is inspired by local artist Annabel York’s own experience of being a beauty queen in the ‘00s. We’re especially excited to see the return of Sand House (p24); Doncaster’s lost Victorian marvel is a real story of heritage and history that deserves to continue to be told.
From hip hop to ballet to contemporary dance, it’s going to be an incredible couple of months for dance, as Cast continues to bring national and international performers to the town, with worldclass dance-circus company Motionhouse unveiling their brand-new multimedia production, Nobody (p26), as a highlight of the season, alongside the much anticipated Royal Ballet gala in July (p17), and the exciting return of Rambert2 (p10) and Breakin' Convention (p5) with their newest work.
