UNLEASHED Th e Sto r y Batavia has long celebrated its history as the Windmill City, but in recent years a new symbol of pride — the Bulldog — has been making a play for the attention of residents and visitors. Bulldogs Unleashed adds a highly artistic flourish to the BHS bulldog mascot. The first Bulldogs Unleashed public art project took place in 2011, raising $75,000 for three foundations: Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence, Batavia Parks Foundation, and the Batavia Public Library Foundation. And the foundations teamed up once again for an encore! More than 30 local artists submitted designs to Bulldogs Unleashed in 2017. Each offered themes of local landmarks or inspiring creations, such as superheroes or patriotic symbols. Following a review process, the foundations found sponsors for each bulldog. Sponsors selected their artist. If they purchased the bulldog outright (15 of the 30 dogs), they worked with the artist for a custom design. The artists went to work for 8 weeks to create their bulldog masterpieces. The 30 bulldogs were revealed to the community on June 10 as part of the Batavia Flag Day Celebration. The 17" and 30" fiberglass bulldogs, as well as three gigantic 44" bulldogs, eleven legacy bulldogs from 2011, and two extra bulldogs — for a total of 53 bulldogs — were on display all summer! The Foster Bulldogs have been on display at local shops, which adopted them for the summer. They are now available to everyone... raffle tickets are on sale, and the winners will be picked tonight! Welcome Welcome to the 2nd Bulldogs Unleashed Event. We hope you enjoy the music, food, drinks, and auction. Fifteen 30" bulldogs will be auctioned, and ten 17" tabletop bulldogs, referred to as “Foster Dogs”, are available via raffle. At 8pm, we will begin the auction, raffle, and paddle raise. This fun and exciting hour will move fast, and will be run by our auctioneer, Greg Dellinger.

Bulldogs Unleashed is a public art exhibit that enlightened, entertained, and brightened our community from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2018. At the same time, Bulldogs Unleashed provides financial resources to the important community foundations, which they will reinvest for the benefit of the citizens of Batavia. The project concludes tonight with a community celebration and auction. In addition to the fifteen 30" bulldogs on the auction block, there are ten 17" tabletop Foster Dogs. They were adopted by local shops all summer and will be raffled off tonight. Tickets are available until the auction begins at $10 per ticket or 3 for $25. Tickets can be purchased at the door and from volunteers walking around during this evening’s event.

Bulldogs Unleashed is the result of a collaboration among three community foundations: Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence, Batavia Parks Foundation, and Batavia Public Library Foundation. These foundations worked together for the benefit of our town, to help our schools, library, and parks. They are thrilled to bring our community together again with this wonderful art project. Thank you to everyone for your support.

A b o u t t h e Fo u n d a t i o n s

The Batavia Public Library Foundation is dedicated to supporting the Batavia Public Library as a renowned institution that meets the lifelong learning needs of residents and organizations and offers a place to gather, exchange ideas and participate in cultural events.

The Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence provides financial and other resources to the schools for enrichment programs and other projects aimed at enhancing the quality of education and educational opportunities for the students of Batavia Public Schools. Teacher grants and college scholarships are awarded on an annual basis.

The Batavia Parks Foundation exists to foster recreation and open space initiatives that enhance residents’ quality of life. This is accomplished through stewardship for open space, parks, facilities, cultural activities, and recreational programs in support of the Batavia Park District.
