CBHS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 2013-2014 The groups & committees listed below extend an open invitation to all CBHS parents to become involved by volunteering to help make CB…the place to be. CB Falcon Athletic Volunteers (FAV) would like to extend an invitation to you and your family to become active volunteers in support of CB athletics. If you are a parent of a current CB athlete, you understand the importance of volunteering to assist athletic events. Your participation is essential to your child having a positive experience in our CB sports program. Whatever your strength or talent, we have a place for you. Events include: Blue/Red Scrimmage, Spring Sports BBQ, La Salle Club Coaches and Baseball Hall of Fame events, the inaugural Christian Brothers Athletic Hall of Fame banquet, and CB home contests. Friends of the Arts (FOTA) is a volunteer organization that gives parents and others an opportunity to support the visual and performing arts at Christian Brothers. Members serve as volunteers for events and provide assistance with the promotion of events at school and in the community. Monthly meetings are open to all. Join the Friends of the Arts to support our talented students during their various activities. The Lasallian Parent Ambassadors (LPA) The Lasallian Parent Ambassadors are current and alumni parents who serve the CBHS community as hospitality ambassadors. LPA volunteers welcome new and prospective families at the Ice Cream Social, Open House, Placement Indicator, and Frosh Welcome Night. Other volunteer opportunities include current student events, such as the Magazine Drive, Dances, Guidance Nights, Blood Drives, and Class Liturgies. At the end of the school year, the LPA provides volunteers for graduation day events—the Baccalaureate Mass, Graduation Lunch, and Commencement. This is an easy way to meet current and alumni parents and become involved. The Magazine Drive – Late August through September The Magazine Drive raises funds for our student clubs and organizations, as well as for tuition assistance. Though the students do the selling, adult volunteers are needed to help collect and tabulate the magazine orders when students turn them in. Order collection days are Tuesdays in September and Oct. 1, during the school day. Wine, Beer & Food Extravaganza: September 6, 2013 The Wine, Beer & Food Extravaganza is organized by the Christian Brothers Alumni Association. Last year 2000 guests attended and the event raised over $90,000 for CBHS students and programs. Over 100 restaurants, wineries and breweries participate. Volunteers are needed to direct parking, pour wine, and help with guest check-in and more. Volunteers are not necessarily alumni of CBHS, and they receive complimentary admission to the event. CBHS Open House October 6th, 2013 (11:00am – 2:00pm) The CBHS Open House welcomes visiting parents and middle school students to demonstrate why CB is the place to be for exceptional academic programs, the arts, athletics and more – all in a faith-filled, nurturing community. Highlights of the day include campus tours, an art exhibition, performances by the band and choir, tours of KBFT (CB’s award-winning television studio), academic department information tables and more. Volunteers are needed in many areas to welcome the guests. Alumni Dinner: February 1, 2014 The Alumni Dinner is also organized by the Alumni Association. This annual gathering is a chance for generations of alumni to come together and simply socialize. Each year, the 50th anniversary class is honored with Golden Diplomas and awards are presented for alumni service, honorary diploma and honorary alumnus. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve dinner, and be a part of the clean-up crew. Auction Committee - March 29, 2014 The Christian Brothers High School’s auction includes a gala dinner for 400 attendees and features a silent and live auction. This major fundraising event is tremendously exciting and the committee (made up largely of parents) has fun making it all happen. Committee meetings begin in late September and there is a volunteer task to match every interest and personality. Artsy volunteers can design backdrops. Party planners can craft menus and invitations. Extroverts can seek donations, and introverts can write thank you notes for the donations. Those with a head for numbers can handle inventory and accounting. “In-charge” types can chair committees and those most comfortable as “worker bees” can staff committees. Committees include: Donation Acquisition, Inventory, Catalog, Dinner, Decorations, Gift Gathering Parties, Cleanup, Set Up, Item Display, Auction Marshalls, Publicity and more. All are welcome. Grad Night - May 23, 2014 Traditionally all grade level parents are invited to volunteer on the Grad Night committee to help plan and organize the all night celebration after graduation. Junior, Sophomore and Frosh parents run the event which is a supervised, fun, safe and sober environment for the graduating class. Grad Night meetings will be during the school year.
