Amanda & Manuel May 8, 2015 Clarks Landing Yacht Club Point Pleasant, NJ

"We wanted to have a Florida Keys-themed wedding, so we incorporated subtle details to set the mood. From the moment we stepped into the upstairs ballroom overlooking the Manasquan River at Clarks Landing Yacht Club, we knew this was our banquet facility." - Amanda

wedding on the water Amanda and Manuel initially met in high school and even shared the same group of friends. Although they were close friends, they lost touch, and eventually love found them when their lives crossed paths again four years later. The two instantly felt a romantic connection and hit it off. Amanda knew Manuel was the one after spending two joyous years with him. Manuel, too, knew Amanda was special and began meticulously planning an extraordinary proposal in a locale where they shared many memories, the Florida Keys. With the sun setting as the two set sail on his boat in Marathon, Manuel serenaded Amanda with one of her favorite songs and proposed, making Amanda the happiest woman ever. Nautical Nuptials: From the moment Amanda and Manuel stepped inside the ballroom of Clarks Landing Yacht Club, they immediately fell in love with the view of the Manasquan River. With the facility of their dreams paired with an excellent reputation and culinary excellence, the two brought their love for the Florida Keys to their New Jersey wedding on the water. Sweet Serenade: The new Mr. and Mrs. shared a choreographed rumba as they danced on the clouds to “Words Can’t Explain,” which was written and sung by the groom. Table Cards: Each guest table was uniquely named after a city in the Florida Keys rather than traditional numbers. Lovely in Lace: Although finding the gown of her dreams proved to be a stressful detail for Amanda, her consultant at Kleinfeld was able to hone in on exactly what she was looking for. Her Pnina Tornai gown featured a lace corset bodice and a dropped waist with a full ball gown skirt. A cathedral-length veil with matching lace edging, Thomas Knoell Swarovski crystal headpiece, and Badgley Mischka peep-toes completed Amanda’s flawless wedding day look. Creative Cocktails: Throughout the evening, guests sipped on signature mojitos by the new Mr. and Mrs. Cotelo, featuring flavors of black cherry, pineapple jalapeño, and cucumber. An 8x10 sign designed by Art Paper Scissors beautifully displayed the signature drink choices at the bar. Travel Diaries: Amanda and Manuel escaped to Hawaii for a sixteen-day honeymoon in paradise, where they went hiking, zip-lined through mountains, star-gazed at the summit of Mauna Kea, and went on a helicopter tour. One Big Happy Family: The newlyweds are currently looking forward to starting a family of their own someday soon. “I love kids and want to have a big family,” Amanda shared. www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

Wedding Predictions AND Trends for 2016

1. Pantone may have named Rose Quartz and Serenity as the colors of the year, but we’re expecting to see a rise in bold hues in 2016. Madison Lee’s Cakes

2. Metallics are here to stay. We love how metallic tones, like gold, rose gold, and copper can surprisingly add a little glamour to your elegant, whimsy, ethereal, or even rustic soiree.

Philip Siciliano Photography

3. Set the mood with romantic lighting. From bistro-style and Edison lighting to chandeliers, candelabras, and votive candles, you can easily create a soft and enchanting glow for the evening. 4. Hand-painted wedding cakes may be too pretty to eat, but lend a bohemian, elegant vibe.

Tara Keely (Style 2607)

5. Wedding gowns this year will focus on layers-upon-layers of pretty dimension. Think 3D embellishments, floral lace appliqués, illusion detailing, and silhouettes with soft movement and romantic fluidity.

silkandmore.etsy.com

6. Long gone are the days of impractical gifts. We’re seeing more and more couples gifting their bridal party with useful and thoughtful endowments, such as feminine robes to get ready in for the ladies and tech gifts for the guys. 7. Expect to see fine cuisine with more locally-sourced ingredients and seasonal-style flavors on wedding menus this year. Perfect for savvy foodie guests who appreciate a sophisticated palette. 8. Brides are opting for effortless beauty when it comes to bridal hair and makeup. After all, less is more! KSS Photography

9. Love the shabby chic style as much as we do? Add natural elements like wood slices to display your centerpieces on, farm tables, linen and barque textures, and foliage such as eucalyptus, branches, moss, or succulents for earthy accents.

KSS Photography

10. Wedding invitations that are simplistic in style will take the lead in wedding stationery this year. Add in letterpress or foil printing accents and guests are sure to say ooh la la!

Tacori - Pretty in Pink Collection

11. Embrace social media and let your guests help document your special day by creating a custom hashtag dedicated to your wedding. Everyone will get in on the fun by capturing moments throughout the day and you’ll have just as much fun reliving the round up of photos. *Tip: Keep the hashtag lighthearted, fun, and easy to remember/spell! 12. Rose gold is taking the wedding world by storm and we’re loving this trend for engagement rings, wedding bands, and day-of jewelry. 13. More couples are choosing to splurge on day-of stationery, like custom menu cards, which will will help tie together your tablescape design. 14. Sweetheart tables delicately designed with loveseat settees offer an even more romantic setting to dine in style as newlyweds. Rent one from a vintage rental company or purchase one to keep after the wedding ends.

Something Blue Wedding Photography

15. Don’t forget your something blue! Add in this classic trend by wearing blue shoes, a chic garter, or have your new monogram embroidered in blue inside your gown.

Something Blue Wedding Photography

22

16. Unstructured floral design has evolved over the last year and we certainly forsee this trend only becoming more popular for 2016 weddings. Expect lots of organic elements, in-season blooms, greenery, and foliage accents.

autumn bliss Angela and Anthony met while attending undergraduate school at New Jersey City University, and it didn’t take long before their relationship blossomed into a friendship where they would find themselves constantly joking around during class. A year after their initial meeting, the two coincidentally broke up with their significant others, and it was Angela who made the first move. “I actually reached out to Anthony and made up an excuse to get his phone number. I texted him first and invited him to a group dinner, but never asked anyone else to go,” Angela shared. They hit it off and officially began dating on December 31, 2011. About a year later on December 8, 2012, Angela and Anthony strolled through the historic seaside town of Cape May, New Jersey. As the two found themselves alone on a side street amongst Victorian houses with the streets glistening in true holiday spirit, Anthony got down on one knee and proposed during the most magical time of the year. “I knew Angela was the one because of how our personalities click. She’s beautiful and I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else,” Anthony mentioned. Freehold Fête: When it came time to choose a facility to host their ceremony and reception, Angela and Anthony looked no further than the Crystal Ballroom at the Radisson Freehold. Not only did the couple like the idea of having the day’s events in one location, but having a hotel on site also made it convenient for family and friends. “I did not want to think about having my guests find rides to various hotels,” the bride mentioned. Additionally, the staff was accommodating and helped Angela and Anthony throughout the whole planning process. Immaculate Imagery: Susan Tibak of Something Blue Wedding Photography was there throughout the day’s events, capturing the details in beautiful imagery. “Susan was a referral from a close friend. I liked how she was down-to-earth and willing to try all of my Pinterest ideas,” Angela raved. Seasonal Celebration: Angela and Anthony’s wedding day perfectly set the tone to fall in love with autumn details, including pumpkins, leaves, and a bold color scheme of orange and plum. A Sweet Ending: Guests were sent home with miniature mason jars filled with candy corn. Each jar was wrapped in burlap with a heart tag tied with twine. Something Borrowed and Blue: Angela wore Anthony’s great-grandmother’s antique brooch on the inside of her gown as her something borrowed, and Christian Louboutins as her something blue. Most Exciting Part of Wedding Planning: The couple agreed that choosing their honeymoon location was the most exciting part of the planning process. Angela and Anthony decided to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they set sail on a cruise to St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Aruba, and Curaçao. www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

"The most exciting part of planning the whole wedding was having special moments along the way when I just stopped to think how lucky I am to be marrying the love of my life." - Jennifer

regal and rustic When Jennifer set sail on her Norwegian Dawn cruise, she never imagined she would find the one she would spend the rest of her life with. Love and fate, though, had other plans in mind. While on the cruise with her family, Jennifer ran into a friend from work who soon introduced her to John, who was on the cruise as a “wingman” for one of his friends. After a night of karaoke and laughs, the two quickly became inseparable. On their four-year anniversary, John decided to take a gamble and propose at Revel Casino in Atlantic City after a food tasting at a seafood restaurant in the area. After heading back to the room, the two started their anniversary gift exchange, and John took Jennifer out to the balcony and proposed. “I wanted to propose in a more intimate setting with just the two of us around,” said John. “We both always had great memories in Atlantic City, and it just felt right to do it in our home state of New Jersey. I was planning on proposing on our fourth anniversary, but it almost got pushed back because the ring wasn’t ready until just a couple days before. I knew she was the one after just a few dates as I never met someone who was so beautiful inside and out who dug my corny sense of humor.” Jennifer, too, knew early in the relationship that this was the real deal for the two. “My mom told me she had a special feeling about John being the one for me when he came inside to introduce himself and he gave her a kiss on the cheek. She said, ‘Jen, that’s the guy you are going to marry.’ I had a very special feeling about our relationship from the beginning.” Taking the Scenic Route: Jennifer and John visited several banquet facilities, but to their dismay, none seemed to fit their wedding style. After her mother suggested The Mill at Spring Lake Heights, the couple decided they had nothing to lose, and upon visiting, Jennifer and John had a great feeling as soon as they walked in. “We felt very much at ease with Amy Floss, the wedding coordinator, and her sense of professionalism,” Jennifer shared. The delicious food, as well as the picturesque location, beautiful décor, and accommodating staff, also helped to make the couple’s decision an easy one. A Personal Touch: After seeing pictures from a friend’s wedding and after talking to Kiamarie Stone of KSS Photography, the bride knew she had found the perfect photographer. Her photographs exemplified the elegance of the celebration and the personalization to each one of her couple’s style. “We had a lot of fun with Kiamarie and her team throughout the day,” the couple expressed. Regal and Rustic: Something Nice Floral Designs helped to create floral arrangements that reflected the wedding’s rustic theme. Mason jars filled with dark blue delphiniums, purple stock, white freesia, Queen Anne’s lace, and eucalyptus made up the centerpieces, which were displayed on a round slice of birch wood to add to www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

the rustic feel. Close to the Heart: Jennifer’s lush bouquet of white peonies, peach Juliet garden roses, purple lisianthus, Queen Anne’s lace, and eucalyptus was personalized with lockets to honor her brother and family members who passed away. Party Rockers: To keep the party-goers dancing through the night, Essential Sounds Entertainment offered a unique experience that not only fit the couple’s budget, but also provided live vocals throughout the evening. Sweet Treats: Chocolate Carousel baked up two amazing cakes for these newlyweds: the wedding cake and a hockey-puck-shaped New Jersey Devils groom’s cake complete with a fondant creation of their dog, Wilson. Arrivederci: After the wedding, the couple honeymooned in Italy, a location the bride and groom thought would be a romantic place to experience together.

Samantha & Thomas August 7, 2015 South Gate Manor Freehold, NJ

"I researched a lot online and I saw that South Gate Manor accommodated for both the ceremony and reception. We really wanted to find a facility that offered both, so it would be less traveling for our guests. As soon as we walked in to South Gate, we felt comfortable and knew it was the place for us." -Samantha

love at first sight When Samantha was out at a local bar with one of her friends on April 2, 2011, little did she know she soon would meet her future husband. Thomas, who was being a wingman that night, approached Samantha’s friend Sherrie and asked, “Who’s your friend?” Samantha and Thomas started talking, and although they instantly clicked, they exchanged numbers and went their separate ways. Not too long after their initial meeting, a good song came on and Samantha spotted Thomas from across the bar. He walked back over and the rest was history. Early in their relationship, Thomas was always there for Samantha, whether it be driving her to the hospital and nursing home to visit her grandparents or just being a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. “We had been through so much in such a short period of time, but I knew Thomas was there for me for the good and bad, and that’s when I knew he was the one,” Samantha reminisced. In August of 2014, the two escaped to Baltimore for a few days, and although the beginning of their vacation didn’t go as planned, Thomas promised that night would be amazing. After stopping to pick up champagne, they headed to their hotel before dinner. While they were getting ready, Thomas put on Samantha’s favorite song, “Everything” by Michael Bublé, and they danced in the hotel room. The surprises didn’t end there though. Thomas arranged for a car to pick them up for dinner, and it was while the two were dining at the Rusty Scupper when got down on one knee, and proposed. “It was a perfect proposal and a night I will never forget,” she said. Picture-Perfect Setting: Upon entering South Gate Manor, Samantha and Thomas immediately knew this was the perfect facility to host their wedding day. Not only did the couple love the modern design with marble detailing, but the perfectly manicured exterior and the ability to host their ceremony on-site, as well. The staff, too, made Samantha and Thomas feel comfortable and were able to accommodate any changes they wished to make throughout their planning. Pretty Paper: Guests were invited to the wedding with custom pocket fold invitations in a bold color scheme of Tabriz blue and fuchsia. Designed by MLShaughnessy Designs, the invitation featured a flourish motif, coordinating enclosure cards, and two Swarovski rhinestone embellishments on the outside monogram seal. Bouquet Breakdown: White roses, teal calla lilies, magenta dendrobium orchids, and white phalaenopsis orchids www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

made up Samantha’s bridal bouquet. A small frame with a picture of her father was also attached to the stems. Dynamic Dance: The bride and her mother shared a special mother/daughter dance to “Through the Years” by Kenny Rogers and surprised guests halfway through by performing a choreographed dance to the “Wobble” song. Surprise Serenade: During the reception, one of the groomsmen decided to grab the microphone and serenaded the newlyweds to “Sweet Home Alabama,” which had everyone singing and dancing along. Wise Advice: The newlyweds agreed to start wedding planning early and compromise within reason when you don’t see eye-to-eye. “I wanted Thomas to be included in the planning, and I valued his opinions on what he also wanted for our wedding,” Samantha shared.

Your four-legged friend is a part of your family, so it comes as no surprise that many brides and grooms are opting to include their pampered pooches in their special day. Whether your beloved pup shares in the morning festivities or proudly walks down the aisle, you're set for some super cute photo-ops! JUST MARRIED

Jessica & Michael September 3, 2015 Nanina’s In The Park Belleville, NJ

vintage garden glam Jessica and Michael worked together six years ago at a restaurant and nightclub in Manhattan, and for years, the two were just friends. When the relationships they were in at the time fell apart, Michael was there to help Jessica move into her apartment, and he soon swept her off her feet. “Mike was very handsome, but most importantly, he was genuinely a good guy that would always listen to my stories and laugh,” Jessica shared on her first impressions of Michael. It didn’t take long for Michael to realize he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jessica, too. “At the end of August of 2011, I took a trip with some of my guy friends to Las Vegas. During that trip, Hurricane Irene hit, and the office at my restaurant had flooded pretty badly with a few feet of water. Jessica [without hesitation] got in the car with my mother and trooped out to Staten Island to physically carry buckets of water out of the office for hours. I knew then that no matter what the situation might be, this girl has my back and will do anything for me,” Michael reminisced. Fast-forward about two years later. The West Shore Inn hosted their annual Halloween costume party on October 27, 2013. Like every year, the couple dressed in their chosen costumes and was surrounded by family, friends, and long time customers. After Michael informed Jessica that they were going to be celebrating her birthday a few days early, a cake was brought out and everyone began singing. As the song came to an end and the cake was put down in front of Jessica, she looked down to see “Will you marry me?” written on the cake in place of Happy Birthday. “I quickly turned around in shock to find Mike down on one knee, holding a ring with tears in his eyes. Of course I said yes and it was perfect to share it with everyone we love,” Jessica shared. Garden Party: Jessica and Michael immediately fell in love with Nanina’s In The Park for its intimate, romantic ambiance with lush gardens and glamorous ballroom. The staff, too, was accommodating and made them feel like a part of their family. Gilded Gold: Blush pink, nude tones, and gold accents harmoniously blended to fit the couple’s vintage garden glam theme perfectly. Capturing the Moment: “Phil is great at what he does,” raved the couple on working with Philip Siciliano Photography. “He is very easy to work with and somehow makes taking so many pictures fun! Philip has a way of capturing amazing moments.” Special Solo: The couple skipped the traditional bouquet and garter toss in favor of a special dedication song, which Jessica sang to Michael during the reception. www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

The easy way to add length, volume, and body for any hair style With short hair being a HUGE trend of 2015, brides sporting layered bobs, edgy lobs (the longer version of a bob cut), or even sassy pixie styles are quite possibly now looking for helpful ways to achieve their dream wedding look. Ricky Pennisi, stylist and owner of Atelier Salon and Spa, offers a simple and elegant solution: tape-in hair extensions. “Hair extensions have come a long way,” Pennisi said. “They are a great way to instantly add length, volume, and body, allowing you to have more style options for your wedding day. Many times, brides want to experiment with braids and half-up, half-down up-dos. Tape-in extensions (which are the least damaging to your own hair) provide additional hair to allow for more elaborate styles.”

Before

Tape-in Exten sions

After After

These easy-to-manage extensions, which Pennisi recommends should be put in two weeks before the wedding, also provide movement to the hair that will give bride options not just for the wedding, but for engagement pictures, rehearsal dinner, and honeymoon as well. For an added bonus, the tape-in extensions keep their shape and style longer, making for less maintenance throughout the big day. “Tape-in extensions are also great to get you past a length that is usually difficult to deal with,” Pennisi added. “You can add as much fullness as you want. Most importantly, you only need to buy one set for the rest of your life, since the hair is reusable. After they grow out (takes about 8 weeks), you can go back to your stylist and have them re-taped back into your hair. Getting the extensions takes about an hour, and highlights and/or lowlights can be added for extra brightness and shine.” Whether you plan to rock a classic chignon, a big bohemian fishtail braid, or pretty, chic beach waves, hair extensions will help you achieve the editorial-style looks you’ve been swooning over. Ashley & Jonathan June 20, 2015 The Estate at Florentine Gardens River Vale, NJ

teacher’s pet Jonathan first spotted Ashley when she was shopping with one of her friends close to his house in Point Pleasant. “I actually texted her friend and asked who she was. I thought she was really pretty,” Jonathan reminisced. It wasn’t until the two were out with mutual friends, though, that they met while on their way to teen night at Joey Harrison’s Surf Club. The two started off as friends, but their relationship blossomed, and it wasn’t long until they both knew they had found something special. On June 23, 2014, Ashley (a teacher whose school year had ended a few days prior) made plans to visit Jonathan on his last day of the school year to meet his students. When she walked into his classroom, she was surprised to see his students holding up letters to spell out the words “Will you marry our teacher?” Before she knew it, Jonathan was down on one knee asking for her hand in marriage. To Have and to Hold: Choosing where they would exchange vows was a no-brainer for Ashley and Jonathan. The two grew up attending mass at Saint Francis and love the family history behind their faith. Historic Charm: For the couple’s June 20, 2015 wedding, Ashley and Jonathan envisioned a classic and romantic affair with an intimate ambiance. The Estate at Florentine Gardens perfectly set the scene through its immaculate grounds, beautiful gardens, and grand ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows. The staff, too, warmly welcomed the couple, made them feel at home, and was quick to answer any questions they had. Pretty Petals: Displayed on gold stands were lush white centerpieces incorporating hydrangea, roses, and a touch of green foliage. Gold damask table linens, suspended tea lights, gold Chiavari chairs, and custom menu cards completed the tablescape design. Bridal Bling: A diamond infinity band beautifully complemented Ashley’s cushion-cut engagement ring. All That Glitters Is Gold: Ashley’s nine bridesmaids wore sparkly gold dresses designed by Adrianna Papell, with spaghetti straps and a crisscross back. Something Sweet: At the end of the evening, guests were sent home with wonderful memories and chocolate purchased from the newlyweds’ favorite shop in Hoboken, Lepore’s Hand Made Chocolates. Wise Advice: Ashley shared, “Try to enjoy the planning phase. It can be stressful, but focus on the bigger picture and don’t get bogged down with the little details.” www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

Tara & Michal June 12, 2015 Westmount Country Club Woodland Park, NJ

a classy and modern affair It was as easy as “Game-Set-Match” for Tara and Michal’s love story. They initially met at a local gym, where Michal first challenged Tara to a tennis game. The game was a win for both, as they quickly fell in love with each other, becoming best friends more than anything else. The two were together for seven years before Michal popped the question. On December 7, 2013, Michal told Tara to come out to their condo’s balcony with the excuse that he had found the leak for the AC unit. Instead of finding a repair project, when Tara stepped out to the balcony, she saw Michal had placed huge letters on the communal lawn, spelling out “Will You Marry Me?” and when she turned to Michal, he was on his knee. The proposal and Tara’s reaction were everything the new groom could have hoped for. “I wanted to make it special and intimate where Tara would not only be surprised, but experience a moment in a setting that was just about the two of us,” he expressed. “I knew for over a year that I wanted to propose, so as soon as we moved into our own place, I proposed.” A Flawless Affair: After extensive research, the couple decided to have their 250 guests follow them to a reception at the Westmount Country Club. They found the venue to be classy, yet modern, something Tara described as just their style. From the friendly and helpful staff to the fitting décor, the facility provided these newlyweds with everything they could have ever wanted for their celebration. Keep the Party Going: Jason Craig Orchestra, which the couple desribed as “fabulous, classy, sophisticated, and knowledgeable,” worked with Tara and Michal through their whole planning process to make sure all of their favorites would be played at the reception. Work of Art: Tara and Michal were in awe of their photographer, Jeff, from Jeff Tisman Photography. The two called him a “creative rock star and acrobat,” because he was so dedicated to getting an artsy and professional shot, regardless of what he had to do to get the right angle. All in the Details: Tara planned the whole event, down to every white peony, white rose, and white hydrangea that Atlas Florist was able to provide. On the morning of the wedding, however, as Michal and his groomsmen excitedly rushed to the church for the ceremony, they all forgot their boutonnières. With no time to go back, the 12 groomsmen stopped at a local florist to make sure they had their boutonnières ready to help complete Tara’s wedding vision. www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

Tara & Michal

Go With Your Gut Feeling: Castle Couture found Tara two Matthew Christopher bridal gowns that she had to decide between. It was the designer himself though who helped the bride make up her mind. He suggested she close her eyes, and once she did, he said, “Quick, pick one.” And without hesitation, Tara picked the Matthew Christopher “Sofia” gown, which was a champagne dress with a lace, off-white overlay. Family Roots: Looking back at the day, Tara explained that one of the most exciting parts of planning was making sure that Michal’s Polish culture was incorporated in the wedding. Michal’s excitement stemmed from the idea of his new family and life with Tara, as he described the most exciting part of the planning for him was “seeing Tara happy.”

ver since you were a little girl, you’ve been envisioning your wedding day. You might even remember getting gussied up in your prettiest, most frilly dress, pretending to get married as you playfully danced around your bedroom. So, when the love of your life finally proposes (years later, of course!), it’s no surprise you’re more than ready to dive head-first into wedding planning and finding the bridal gown of your dreams. After all, you’ve been thinking about your wedding for as long as you can remember. Searching for the perfect dress that will be front and center on your special day is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning, but it can also be one of the most daunting tasks. It’s true! With so many styles on the market, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed at the thought of dress shopping, especially when you have many details to consider, like silhouette, fabric, neckline, embellishments, and more. If you don’t know your tulle from your trumpet, familiarize yourself with these bridal gown terms, which will serve as a handy reference when you start the search for the most meaningful garment you’ll ever wear.

Silhouettes

A-Line - Mira Zwillinger (Mila)

Ball Gown - Yumi Katsura (Charity)

For brides who are looking for a romantic princess look without the full, poofy skirt, an A-line gown is a perfect alternative. This silhouette (which also happens to be universally flattering on every body type) is fitted at the bodice, with vertical seams that flare out from the hips into a semi-full skirt. A ball gown is fitted at the bodice, with a full, floor-length skirt. Think lots of drama, volume, and romance for a formal, modern-day princess bridal look. Graceful and dreamy, empire waist gowns are known for their fitted bodice with flowy skirts that begin just below the bust. Sometimes called modified A-line, fit-and-flare gowns are fitted tight through the bodice onto the hip before flaring out in an A-line skirt. 102

Fit-and-Flare - Moonlight Couture (Style H1293)

Mermaid - Val Stefani (Cassiel Style D8102)

Mermaid gowns feature a sexy, form-fitting silhouette that fits close to the body and flares out at the knee, creating the illusion of a mermaid’s tail.

Sheath gowns are sleek silhouettes, fitting closely to the contours of the body. This shape flows straight from the neckline to the hem with no defined waist, perfect for beach or destination weddings. Trumpet silhouettes fit tight through the bodice and torso, with a drop-waist skirt flaring out mid-thigh to resemble the mouth of a trumpet. Looking for a contemporary take on tradition? Try a très chic two-piece gown with a crop top-style bodice and feminine, high-waist skirt.

Sheath - Claire Pettibone (Helene)

Two-piece gown - Julie Vino (Camille)

Necklines

The straps of a halter are wrapped and tied around the back of the neck. This neckline is similar to that of a halter or bikini top. Illusion necklines feature fabric and/or embellishments that cover a bride’s décolletage.

Trumpet - Tara Keely Style 2608)

One-shoulder necklines accent one shoulder with a strap, leaving the opposing shoulder bare. The scoop (low, rounded, U-shaped) neckline is universally flattering. Thin straps that extend over the shoulder, also known as spaghetti straps, are often added for additional support. Strapless necklines have no straps. V-neck extends downward, creating an angled V at the top of the chest. 104

Illusion Neckline - Anne Barge (Promenade)

Strapless Sweetheart - Madison James (Style MJ155)

Sweetheart strapless gowns are strapless, with a heart-shaped neckline.

Royal/Monarch Train - Galia Lahav (Crystal)

Trains

Chapel trains are semiformal and extend 3-4 feet behind the gown. Cathedral trains extend 6-8 feet behind the gown for a dramatic look. Royal or monarch trains are the most dramatic, extending a yard or more behind the gown. Also called a brush train, sweep-style trains extend about six inches behind the gown.

Fabrics

Alençon lace (named for its French origin) is known for its luxe look and distinct floral pattern, embroidered along the edging with corded detail.

A heavier version than chiffon, but more flowing than tulle, organza offers a romantic and ethereal look through its graceful and fluid skirts.

Chantilly lace is most known for its light, delicate style, with a fine net base and detailing of flowers and ribbon work.

Satin is smooth and soft and usually lightweight. This fabric tends to drape with the body, perfect for form-fitting gowns.

Charmeuse (slinky and silky) is lighter in weight and softer than satin and drapes with ease.

Silk comes in a variety of textures from raw to smooth, and is the most popular (and expensive) fabric choice for wedding gowns.

Chiffon is a sheer, lightweight fabric often layered to create full and/or flowing skirts. Dupioni, made from raw fibers, is a stiff fabric that tends to hold its shape.

Most recognized for its “swoosh” sound, taffeta is a crisp fabric that holds its shape very well, with a sheen that can appear both matte or shiny, depending on the lighting.

Dutchess satin, also known as peau de soie, is similar to satin, but is more structured, with a medium weight.

Think of tulle as a ballerina’s tutu with volume and net-like fabric.

Gemy Maalouf (W15 4236) Kelly Faetanini (Atica) Jean-Ralph Thurnin

While it's important to know your personal style, keep an open mind when searching for your wedding gown. You might be surprised by how beautiful you feel in a gown you might not have expected to even try on. Remember, have fun and enjoy every minute of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Happy dress shopping!

They hit it off and have been together ever since. THE PROPOSAL: The couple attended a U2 concert for what Carlos thought would be a fun evening with his beau. Toward the end of the show, the band performed their hit song, “With or Without You,” and it was at that time Josh took off his shirt to reveal a T-shirt that read, “I wanna get married, U2?” He got down on one knee and asked Carlo to be his husband. To make the proposal even more special, Josh arrived to the concert early and asked people sitting around them to take pictures of the proposal, which they’ll be able to cherish for years to come. THE PROPOSAL: Video games have always been a favorite pastime for John. Becky, too, always enjoyed them, but it was throughout their relationship that she grew to love playing more. After arriving home from work one evening, John told her he had a demo of the latest game series that they liked. When she sat down to play, an error message popped up on the screen, followed by a black screen that prompted Becky to turn toward John, who was down on one knee with a ring in hand. John even had a camera hidden in their Christmas tree and recorded the whole thing while Becky's sister and mother watched the happy moment from a webcam. Five months later, they went on their first date and hit it off. THE PROPOSAL: Missy had plans on having a girls’ night, but when her friend backed out, Justin was there to take her place. The two returned to the restaurant where it all began, followed by a walk across the park on the Morristown Green. That’s where Justin got down on one knee and proposed. After dinner at the Peacock Inn Restaurant and some convincing from the concierge, Giselle went outside to where Robert was waiting with a large box in hand, ready to go on an evening stroll to a nearby park. As they sat on a bench among beautiful cherry blossom trees, Giselle opened the box to find an iPad with a touching video made especially for her―a film that outlined Giselle’s life with her friends and family, her accomplishments, and her relationship with Robert. classic elegance Dana and William might have been an unlikely pair, but after meeting through a mutual friend at work and bonding over shuffleboard at the office, they realized they in fact had a lot in common. Despite their differences, Dana agreed to grab drinks one weekend with William, and they spent their first date talking non-stop for five hours. After hitting it off, the two started new careers and a new life together in Boston. “Making the move together allowed us to speed up the getting-to-know-each-other process and made us realize what a solid partnership we had. We complement each other well and make each other laugh every day,” Dana shared. William, too, knew they shared something special, so it was only fitting to take their relationship to the next level. It was a usual Thursday evening for the two, who went to the gym after work. Upon arriving home, Dana began dinner, while William unwound and freshened up. After taking significantly longer than usual, William eventually yelled from the bedroom that he left something on the iPad for Dana to check out. Assuming it was pictures of puppies, Dana was surprised to read a sweet note he had written for her. It was at that time that William came out dressed in a suit with a ring in hand. “I literally just froze and couldn’t even process that it was actually happening. Eventually he asked me if that was a yes. I started laughing and said yes, of course,” Dana reminisced. Fall Fête: Not only is September a favorite month for Dana and William, but growing up at the shore, they knew the fall season has always been a well-kept secret for locals. So, choosing to tie the knot after Labor Day allowed the couple to still have reliably warm weather without large tourist crowds. Timeless Romance: The wedding design was a modern take on classic romance with timeless and simple details paying homage to the couple’s current New England home. A Cherished Moment: “The way the day was timing out, it made the most sense. We wanted to have an intimate moment with just us, so we could see each other and have it be just us for a little while,” William shared about the couple’s decision to have a first look. Lakeside Gathering: After visiting several locations to host their wedding day, The Mill at Spring Lake Heights was the only facility where the couple could envision getting married. Additionally, they had some connections to The Mill; the bride’s mother worked there when she was young, and it was located right in her hometown. From the lakeside view paired with the perfect mix of modern, romantic, and classic décor, and an accommodating staff, The Mill had everything Dana and William were looking for in a banquet facility. Dana and William had to face some challenges the day of the wedding, Susan Tibak of Something Blue Wedding Photography was there to guide them throughout the day. “Susan and her team felt like friends who just happened to be taking pictures for us. They blended in seamlessly, gave advice, and were just super compassionate, funny, easygoing, and supportive throughout the day and the process leading up to it,” Dana noted. “When I was walking down the aisle, I got really emotional. When I turned the corner, the first person I saw was Susan, and for that first moment, she didn’t immediately put a camera in my face. She smiled at me and it immediately calmed me down.” A Sweet Send-Off: At the end of the wedding, guests were sent home with pieces of authentic Fralinger’s salt water taffy, which were in metal pails and tied with a navy ribbon and favor tag.

a garden party Like a scene straight from a movie, Maria walked into her local Blockbuster with her friend and immediately took fellow co-worker Keith’s breath away. After overhearing Maria talking about The Dark Knight, Keith (who is a big fan of Batman movies) quickly joined in the conversation, and Maria instantly noticed his smile. “It was amazing to talk to such a beautiful girl that was just as excited about Batman as I was. I later found out, from the other employee, that Maria was also an employee at Blockbuster,” Keith recalled. It wasn’t long before the two became best friends and housemates turned boyfriend and girlfriend. On Maria’s 27th birthday, Keith decided to take their relationship to the next level. While Maria was opening presents, Keith promised he’d be right back―that he had one last present for her. Shaking, he returned on bended knee in front of his future bride and asked for her hand in marriage. “I was really surprised because we were friends for so many years, but we were only dating for under a year,” she expressed. “He was my best friend, and I knew saying yes was the right decision.” Keith’s hope for the proposal was to have an intimate moment with Maria, but as he watched her open presents with her family, he couldn’t help but get excited, and his desire to share the moment made him decide to pop the question then instead. “I had the proposal planned for about a month and a half. I was planning on doing it later, but I was just too excited, and I wanted everyone in her family to see her with her ring,” he said. The Date: Maria was very close to her grandmother, so the couple decided to honor her by choosing to tie the knot on her birthday. The First Look: Maria and Keith shared their first look prior to the ceremony, which allowed them to share an intimate moment together. “It helped us relax and gave us a chance to see our guests [during cocktail hour],” Keith noted. A Garden Affair: Maria always knew she wanted to have her wedding ceremony outside, so when the couple visited The Manor, they immediately fell in love with the picturesque gardens and were excited to sign the contract. Additionally, they loved the convenient location, which made traveling easy for their guests. “The Manor was more than we could have ever hoped to find,” Keith reminisced. Food for Thought: Guests were served parmesan-crusted French chicken breast, grilled salmon, or sliced beef tenderloin, along with grilled vegetables and mushroom www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

Memories for a Lifetime: After Maria saw her friend’s wedding photographs, she looked no further than Kiamarie Stone of KSS Photography. “Our pictures came out beautiful,” Maria raved. “We liked how Kiamarie took pictures from different angles and even goofy shots with our bridal party.” Pretty Palette: Bright shades of pink, yellow, and white flowers complemented the bridesmaids’ short green dresses and the groomsmen’s light tan tuxedos with green vests and ties. One Unforgettable Honeymoon: Following their wedding, the newlyweds escaped to Antigua for a romantic honeymoon at Sandals Grande Antigua.

After the Wedding The First Steps to Relaxing into Newlywed Bliss By Tara DeLorenzo

KSS Photography

While some couples love wedding planning, it can in fact be the most stressful part of the whole celebration. But once the wedding is over and the honeymoon comes to an end, there are still some important things to be done–details that celebrate all of the people who came to help make your day everything you ever dreamed. Before you relax and celebrate your newlywed status, don’t forget to cross off these last few post-wedding tasks.

Mind Your Manners After the honeymoon is over, it’s time to put your pen to paper by acknowledging the generosity of your guests. Regardless of how far each of them traveled, they took time from their schedules to be there for your special day. Express your appreciation by sending personalized, handwritten, and heartfelt thank you cards. "We all know how tedious writing thank yous can be, but if you're organized from the very beginning, this process can in fact be fun and stress free," mentioned Meghan Shaughnessy, owner and creative director of MLShaughnessy Designs. "Start out by creating a gift received column within your wedding guest list for easy recording, and don't wait until after the wedding to order thank you cards. By having bespoke stationery on hand, you can immediately send a thank you, making the process less overwhelming. Have more than a couple of cards to write? No problem! Put aside time each night and write your notes in small batches. That way, you won't fall behind and your hand won't suffer from cramping." Don’t forget to also thank your wedding vendors. They, too, made sure that everything went smoothly and as planned. A handwritten note is sure to be appreciated, as well as website reviews giving your genuine five-star feedback.

Just Your Style Even with the registries you worked so hard on, off-registry gifts or duplicates are inevitable. Don’t forget to make those returns or exchanges sooner rather than later and choose household items that are more aligned with your style. And, while you’re out doing these errands, purchase the gifts you may still need to make your new home cozy and inviting. Some stores even offer discounts on the items that are still left on the registry after the big day, so make sure to take advantage of those special offers. 128

Preserve, Remember, and Reminisce Preserve your big day… in more ways than one. Brides spend so much time, effort, and money on finding their perfect dress, so don’t forget to get your gown cleaned and preserved as soon as possible. The storage material should be clean and acid free, and while a preservationist is recommended to handle the storing of the gown, there are home tricks that can be used that include cloth or Tyvek bags (though those only offer short-term protection). “When it comes to preserving a gown (or simply having it cleaned), one of the best tips would be to understand the process and have real expectations,” explained Donna Serino, marketing coordinator at Hallak Cleaners, which specializes in bridal gown preservation. “Once a gown is worn, it is no longer 'new.' While we will do our very best to have your gown returned picture-perfect, there may be some areas that still reflect all the fun you had. For instance, hem soil is extremely common and one of our most discussed key points with brides. Hem soil often requires spot-cleaning prior to the actual full cleaning process. Along with the hem having dirt, the gown's delicate fabric's fibers have also been agitated; this can leave the hem looking dirty even after it is cleaned. Hallak customer service representatives take their time to explain to brides what is to be expected during the entire process. They

wedding discussion boards. You might be surprised by how many brides will express their interest. For any items you can’t bear to part with, use them throughout your home to serve as a reminder of your special day.

Sharing the Piggy Bank With the new adventure of marriage, it’s essential to start your new life off right financially. Joining in matrimony also can mean joining in bank accounts and the financial ups and downs. Vicky Tomaro, president of Tomaro Financial Group, provided some helpful tips, starting from the engagement, where she mentions it is important to note your significant other’s spending habits, and vice versa, as well as each other’s debt. Tomaro emphasizes to try to be as debt free as possible when entering a marriage in order for there to be less stress in the household that could cause tension in the marriage. “Make debt a priority and get it paid off as quickly as possible,” she said. “I don’t believe in having separate accounts. I think it adds an extra wedge in the marriage. The couple should open a joint checking account that is used to pay the household bills and expenses, and both parties should contribute equally, if possible. If the monthly bills are $5,000 a month, for example, then each person should contribute $2,500. If one makes more

also provide brides with actual expectations. During the cleaning process, it is important to protect the fabric's integrity and not 'over process.'” Another way to preserve the wedding is through remembering to order the wedding album. While you may have all the digital copies, you may have already paid for the wedding album itself, too, with the photography package. This is a great time to reminisce over the day you said “I do” by selecting your favorite photographs to be included in the album.

Calling All Other Newlyweds-to-Be To close up all of the wedding festivities, remember to return the items you bought for the wedding that didn’t end up being used. Can’t exchange them? Ask any engaged friends if they can use these décor items for their big day or add them to www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

than the other, then they should both contribute what they can, and out of that, they should pay the bills. Don’t leave it for just one person to pay the bills. Work everything together going forward jointly. Show an interest in your finances together.”

To the New Mr. and Mrs. Last on this list is legally changing your name… if that’s something you want to do. Necessary documents for this include a passport, a social security card, and a driver’s license, as well as a few others. This may be a tedious process, but it’s one that’s worth it in the end when you get to sign your new married name for the very first time. Regardless of the order in which you get all of this done, you’ll eventually cross off that very last task and be ready to officially start the biggest adventure in your life. 129

"From start to finish, our wedding day went off without a hitch. In the back of my head I was expecting some sort of last minute wedding day disaster that you see in movies. a romantic celebration Fate had its own plan in mind for Jacqueline and Philip, who met at Jersey Mike’s in Toms River in 2008. While Jacqueline wasn’t interested at first, it seemed the two kept in contact, even making their paths cross once more in 2009. Philip, though, was taken with Jacqueline’s beauty―so much so, he says he “never thought we’d end up together. It still shocks me and my friend to this day.” After making Jacqueline think he was about to propose time and time again, Philip decided that February 28, 2013 would be the perfect day to give his bride-to-be the surprise of a lifetime. In hopes of catching her off guard, he planned a simple proposal that took place after a dinner at their favorite restaurant. “I knew Jackie would have expected somewhat of a show for a proposal, so I wanted to do the exact opposite with a simple, memorable moment. I believe in my short speech before asking her I even said something to the effect of ‘I thought of a million stupid, funny things to say and do, but I want you to remember this as a nice moment,” Philip said. “As far as knowing she was the one, she’s one of the few people I’ve ever met that is as inappropriate and goofy as I am, so there was no doubt I had found someone I could spend the rest of my life with.” Experience the Enchantment: After attending two weddings at the Versailles Ballroom, the couple fell in love with the facility. From the location, the accommodating staff, and the convenience of having the ceremony and reception in one place, the Versailles Ballroom had the whole package to make sure that everything was perfect for the newlyweds’ celebration. Classic Confections: To add a sweet touch to the delicious cocktail hour and dinner that the Versailles Ballroom offered, Chocolate Carousel was able to whip up a three-tier square cake with ivory, pearl beading. The top two tiers were chocolate cookies and cream, and the bottom tier was red velvet with cannoli cream. Silk dots, along with a cascade of ivory, blush, and pink roses, helped to decorate the cake, which was also covered in shimmer and glitter. Feel the Love and Join the Party: For the couple’s first dance, Jacqueline and Philip joined together under a monogram spotlight to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” To keep the party going after the couple’s magical moment, SCE Event Group played a wide range of genres from salsa to club music. Playful Pictures: Meghan Leigh Photography mixed the perfect balance of professionalism and laid-back attitude to help make Jacqueline and Philip’s wedding photos truly reflect the happy www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

celebration. Meghan Leigh and her assistant Mike were able to get all the candid shots that the couple loved―all of which highlighted the love that exists between the couple and also the beauty of their venue. A Little Splash of Color: Jacqueline’s dress shopping experience was everything she could have dreamed of and more at Nicole’s Boutique, where she was able to find her perfect wedding dress. A blush pink, mermaid-style gown with sweetheart neckline, ornate beading, and lace, designed by Maggie Sottero was the first and only dress this bride tried on. In Reverse: While the bride wowed her guests with her blush dress, Jacqueline decided to go against tradition, so her bridesmaids wore floor-length, ivory chiffon Bill Levkoff dresses with varying necklines. Something Old and Borrowed: Jacqueline wore a necklace handed down from her great-grandmother for something old and borrowed. Off to Paradise: After the big day, the couple escaped to Jamaica for the honeymoon―a destination neither of them had ever been before. There, they stayed at the Iberostar in Montego Bay for 12 days, where they climbed the Dunn’s River Falls, swam with dolphins, went horseback riding in the ocean, and started their lives as a married couple in paradise. The Future: The newlyweds both agreed that they are most looking forward to the arrival of their first child. “We are extremely excited to welcome a baby girl in April 2016.”

Philip Siciliano Photography

From Ms. to Mrs. Tips for changing your last name By Terri Huggins First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a bride with a name-change application. At least that’s how the cute little rhyme should go. Unfortunately for some, the name-change process is nothing more than a headache and major identity crisis waiting to happen. After all, no one dreams of spending the Saturday after returning from their honeymoon filling out applications and waiting in long lines to make it official. Thanks to a few name-change services on the market, along with a little organization, changing your name can be almost as blissful as the day you say "I do." For those who don’t want to take the shortcut (ahem, MissNowMrs.com), here’s our easy-to-follow guide to ensure that changing your last name is a breeze. 1. Before you can change your name, you’ll need to obtain your marriage license with your new last name on it. Call the registrar’s office where your license was initially filed to request copies if one wasn’t automatically sent to you. 2. Next, you’ll have to update your social security card. Fill out form SS-5, which can be found on www.socialsecurity.gov, and mail or take it to any social security office along with your marriage license and ID. All of your documents will be returned to you, and you’ll receive your new social security card in the mail within ten business days. 3. We all know how much of a headache it can be to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles, but rest assured, changing your name on your license is actually fairly stress-free, especially when you go as soon as they open or on a non-peak day. (Try to avoid going at the end of the month, when many residents are rushing to get new licenses before theirs expire at the beginning of the next month.) Here you’ll need to show your old license, certified marriage certificate, new social security card, and a piece of mail that shows your current mailing address. 4. The quickest way to change your name on your bank accounts is to visit your bank’s branch location and bring your new driver’s license and marriage license. Request that they not only update your information, but also ask for a new debit card and checks showing the updated information.

136

5. Even after your name is changed at the social security office and DMV, you’ll still have to fill in the blanks by changing your name on any accounts you have. It can be a bit overwhelming once you realize how many places you’ll have to make the change, but staying organized is key in making sure nothing is missed. Make a list including all of the accounts you can think of–such as your passport, employer’s payroll, credit cards, mortgage company, insurance companies, and utility companies–and then go through old mail and emails to make sure everything is covered. Once you’ve gone through all the major items on your checklist, it will only be a matter of changing your name on subscriptions and miscellaneous items as you come across them. When all is said and done, revamp your signature and remember to sign your new name on all those important documents. Whether you decide to stick with tradition and take his last name or keep your maiden name, it’s ultimately your decision! Take some time to reflect on your thoughts and go with your heart and what you feel most comfortable with. After all, it is your name and identity!

Name-Change Tips 1. For travel purposes, don’t worry about changing your name until after the honeymoon. Keep in mind that not only your photo I.D. name needs to match the name on the ticket, but changing your passport usually takes about six to eight weeks. 2. Your social security card, driver’s license, and bank accounts are the most important things to tackle first. 3. Name-change services like, MissNowMrs.com alleviate some of the stress, by helping you complete the forms online and providing detailed instructions on how to file. 4. Don’t forget to also change your last name with your employer’s payroll company, utility companies, credit card companies, insurance companies, and voter registration, to name a few.

From traditional neutrals to pretty pastels and vibrant hues, flowers have the ability to dramatically enhance your wedding day. Think about what types of flowers you like or dislike, and consider any sentimental personalizations. Each bloom might make your bouquet perfect, but an heirloom pin, piece of fabric, lockets, or even rosary beads that belonged to a passed loved one, can make your bouquet that much more special.

a summer soirée Love was a home run away for Connor when he scored a home run during his sixth-grade gym class’s kickball game, only to stop at second base to ask Emily, his childhood crush since the third grade, to be his girlfriend. While their relationship was on and off, the two always remained close, and their high school years were filled with notes that they passed back and forth in class, prom, and an array of sporting events to support one another. And through it all, they always found a way to come back to each other. To solidify their commitment, Connor knew his proposal had to live up to the love story the two had created together―a modern day fairy-tale that was built through the notes they wrote each other in classes, which Emily had saved in a scrapbook and gifted to Connor as a graduation present. After asking Emily’s father’s permission to marry his daughter and purchasing the perfect engagement ring, Connor added two more details to the last page of the scrapbook. Two days later during a romantic picnic in the park, Emily began flipping through the scrapbook, reminiscing over all of their memories. Upon reaching the last page Emily was confused by the fortune cookie note that read “A lifetime of happiness lies ahead of you” and Connor’s note that asked her why she hasn’t answered his question yet. It was at that exact moment that Connor presented Emily with a dazzling engagement ring and asked her to be his wife. Summer Lovin’: Summer has always been the couple’s favorite season, so there was no hesitation in choosing to tie the knot on August 15, 2015. Black Tie Optional: When Emily and Connor began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted their special day to be a sophisticated affair. After thoroughly researching venues, they came across Biagio’s and The Terrace and immediately fell in love with the facility for its romantic space with modern décor. “We worked closely with Bobby during our planning stages. He was a tremendous help in planning our menu and meeting all of our needs before the big day. His expertise in wedding planning was invaluable and he was a pleasure to work with,” Emily raved. Sweet Send-Off: In addition to a four-tier wedding cake, guests were treated to a Viennese extravaganza before the reception ended. A chocolate fountain, bananas Foster, ice-cream sundaes, freshly made crepes, and hand-spun cotton candy were just a few of the many sweets that guests enjoyed for dessert. On Cloud Nine: Emily and Connor shared a magical first dance on the clouds to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. Picture-Perfect: The photographers and videographer from Pure Platinum Party beautifully captured Emily and Connor’s wedding day from the wedding day preps to the www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

ceremony and throughout the reception. Andrew, Bel, and Nicole were professional and made the couple feel comfortable in front of the camera. “We very much enjoyed working with Pure Platinum Party,” the couple exclaimed. Beautiful Blooms: High and low arrangements, including hydrangea, garden roses, and amaranthus, added dimension to the ballroom, while suspended candles and tea lights provided a romantic glow throughout the evening. A True Love Story Never Ends: Emily and Connor honored loved ones by displaying family heirloom photos on an ancestry table. “We wanted to remember all of these relationships, such as our parents and grandparents on their wedding day, because we are lucky to come from such love. We now have all of these great pictures in frames to display in our home [for years to come],” the bride shared. Island Adventures: Following the reception, newlyweds Emily and Connor escaped to the Hawaiian Islands for two weeks where they visited Maui, Kauai, and Oahu.

rainy day love It was love at first sight for Kasandra and Matthew, who immediately hit it off after being introduced by mutual friends on April 14, 2012. “Kasandra was so beautiful and I couldn’t wait to get to know her better,” Matthew reminisced on his first impressions. The two became inseparable, and after dating for just a month, they planned their first vacation to Mexico together. Following the trip of a lifetime, world travelers Kasandra and Matthew visited many other destinations, and nearly two years later Matthew became her real-life prince as he proposed in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World in Florida. “I was so incredibly surprised. Matthew even had our friends from Georgia come down to take pictures of us getting engaged,” Kasandra shared. Behind the Inspiration: The couple’s rustic chic wedding was brought to life with the color palette of caramel and gold and simple details throughout the wedding designs. Setting the Scene: When Kasandra and Matthew visited the Grand Marquis, they were warmly welcomed and impressed by everything the facility had to offer, and during their first appointment the couple was shown the construction boards of the upcoming renovations that would be completed prior to their wedding day. Knowing the end result was going to be absolutely beautiful, Kasandra and Matthew happily booked October 3, 2015 as their wedding date. Picture-Perfect: “Susan was beyond amazing. I would work with her a million more times,” Kasandra raved on working with Something Blue Wedding Photography. “She has so much passion and love for what she does.” From the wedding day prep to the ceremony and throughout the reception, Susan made their wedding photo experience fun and picture-perfect. On the Bright Side: Kasandra had visions of a sunny fall day, but Mother Nature had other plans. Although the bride was initially a little disappointed, the couple knew their wedding day would be perfect no matter what and embraced the weather. After all, a little wedding day rain is said to be good luck. “The second [our photographer] Susan Tibak told me to make sure we had rain boots and umbrellas, I knew she had some awesome ideas up her sleeve. We got a little wet, but the pictures we have now will last a lifetime,” the bride mentioned. Bouquet Breakdown: The bride carried a lush bouquet of hydrangeas, carnations, roses, lamb’s ears, and dusty miller for a soft and romantic look designed by Femme Fatale Floral Co. Favorite Memory: The newlyweds both agreed that seeing each other for the first time as Kasandra walked down the aisle at St. Mary’s Church was their favorite memory from their wedding day. www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

"Weddings bring out the best and worst in people, and surprisingly enough, a lot of people have opinions. But at the end of the day, you can't make everyone happy. All that matters is that you and your partner are happy and have the wedding you both want." - Heather

college sweethearts Heather and Frank met in 2008 at her college sorority house when she and her roommates invited their neighbor over to hang out. Chris, who showed up with a few of his fraternity brothers, introduced Frank, and Heather challenged him to a game of Guitar Hero. Although the two were smitten by each other that day, it wasn’t until a few months later that Frank asked for Heather’s phone number when they reconnected while at a local college. “During our first date, we went into the city, and while we were waiting for a train back to Seton Hall University, we sat on the steps of the New York City Post Office across the street from Madison Square Garden. It was the first time we really got to connect and get to know one another,” Frank reminisced. Three days before their four-year dating anniversary, Frank asked Heather to meet him at the location where they shared a beautiful summer night years prior, and it was on those steps that he got down on one knee and proposed. To make the evening more special, Frank arranged to have both their families waiting at Heather’s favorite restaurant in Staten Island to celebrate with them. Charming Château: Heather and Frank attended a wedding at the Pleasantdale Château in 2013 and fell in love with everything the facility had to offer. “The Pleasantdale has the most astonishing grounds and architecture,” Heather raved. Flowy Fabric: After seeing a beautiful dress while scrolling through Instagram, Heather immediately went to Anna Campbell’s website and saw Lovely Bride in Philadelphia was having a trunk show a few weeks later. “I went there with my mom, sister, and best friend and absolutely fell in love with the dress,” the bride mentioned. The gown was slightly out of her price range, so Heather decided to keep looking, but she soon realized nothing compared. A few months later, Heather revisited the Lovely Bride salon in New York for another trunk show. It was there she said yes to her dream dress made of light and flowy fabric with stunning bead work, V-neckline, and lace train. Magical Moments: Heather, who is a visual journalist by trade, wanted mainly candid shots for her wedding photography and called upon Philip Siciliano Photography to capture her wedding day. “Philip didn’t just take pictures, he captured moments. When I look at those moments, I can feel exactly how I felt when the picture was being taken. That’s the kind of photography that cannot be taught. Philip’s shots are heartfelt, creative, and the results were nothing short of amazing,” Heather gushed. Bride’s Favorite Memory: When www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

Heather’s dad gave his toast during the reception, he had three champagne glasses (representing her grandparents) set up on the balcony, which comforted the bride knowing they were there looking down on her special day. Pretty Posies: The bride carried a lush bouquet of fragrant peonies accented with dusty miller, suspended pearls, and three memorial photos of her grandparents who passed away. Exotic Elegance: Following the wedding, the newlyweds escaped to St. Lucia for a romantic honeymoon where they spent half of their time at a secluded resort in the mountains and the remaining duration on the beach.

rooftop romance Mixing work with pleasure, Kristen and Anthony “Tony” met at the office back in 2002. While the two did not start dating until the fall of 2007, Tony automatically caught Kristen’s attention with his hard-working and successful attitude and, as Kristen said, his beautiful blue eyes. The initial attraction was mutual, and Tony, too, was struck by Kristen’s beauty, intelligence, and motivation to pursue her career. In April 2015, the two took off to Napa Valley, California, for vacation, where Tony had a surprise waiting for Kristen that would change their lives forever―a surprise he had been planning for the last year. While at a wine tasting on the first morning there, the man in charge of the tasting led the couple to the barrel room, which was set up with a small round table decorated with flowers and their favorite white wine, and then left them for another client. It was then that Tony and Kristen looked at each other, and Tony said, “This is our time,” and dropped to his knee. He read her a poem he had written that ended with the question “Will you marry me?” Kristen quickly said yes. “We dated for seven years and it was the connection we had and the friendship/relationship we created over that time that led me to know he was the one,” she said. “He knows me more than anyone else and looks at me the way no man has ever looked at me.” Tony was very pleased with how everything came together and was excited to get started on their lives together. “I wanted the ring to be perfect for her and the place of the proposal to be special,” he said. “We both love Napa and I found a great winery that helped me pull off the surprise proposal. I did it on the first day of our vacation so we could enjoy the trip as an engaged couple!” Under the Lights: Tony and Kristen took their romantic and chic wedding to the rooftop of New York City’s Gramercy Park Hotel, where their wedding transformed into a timelessly elegant and slightly Great Gatsby-inspired celebration. The couple married at night with the lights of New York City as their backdrop. Two Are Better Than One: Diane’s Patisserie provided the happy couple with not one, but two wedding cakes to match the celebration’s color scheme of navy, blush, and champagne. The first featured a Swiss dot pattern topped with blush-colored flowers, while the second two-tier square cake featured a navy bow wrapped around the second tier, embellished with edible flowers. Timeless Beauty: Kristen tried on between 50-75 dresses before slipping into the Monique Lhuillier sheath dress that took her breath away. The dress itself had a blush silk underlay with a white tulle overlay that had clear, crystal beading and tiny pearls intricately designed from top to bottom. It also featured a tulle train that had beading set in rows running down it. But what really sold the dress and made the emotional connection for Kristen was its name: timeless. Just a Peek: Because their wedding wasn’t until later in the day, the two decided to break tradition and have a first look―a moment that quickly became a favorite memory for both. motivation for this beautiful moment was that Kristen wanted what she referred to a Pretty Woman movie moment, so for the first look, she sat at the Rose Bar in the Gramercy Park Hotel with her back turned to Tony, and didn’t turn around until he was beside her. Pretty as a Picture: Jim Kennedy Photographers took on the task of making Kristen and Tony’s wedding vision come to life. Both Jim Kennedy and his assistant were present every step of the way, making sure no special moment was missed. Jim has a modern style to his photography, which helped to enhance the pictures, as he utilized the architecture of The Rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel to capture both posed and candid shots. The Next Chapter: As the couple looks to their future, both are eager for their new adventure together. Kristen is looking forward to their first house together, traveling, and adding to their new family. Tony is most excited for sharing the special moments that are to come and is also looking forward to expanding their family.

nautical nuptials After meeting each other through a mutual friend, love seemed a spook away for Mallory and Nick, who made their connection at a Halloween party in Hoboken in 2011. While it took the couple some time following that Halloween night to get some one-on-one time, it seemed Nick needed no time at all to discover Mallory was meant to be his bride. “I had known Mallory for a couple of years before we started dating. I always thought she was out of my league, and I still do,” he said. “We didn’t really get to know each other until after college. She thought I was funny, we shared similar interests, values, and we laughed a lot. I joked to my friends that I fell in love with her after the first weekend we spent together, but the truth is I think I did.” The two became engaged in August of 2014 at Nick’s family home in Sea Girt. The goal of the evening was to make everything seem as ordinary as possible in order to take Mallory by surprise. “I always thought that I would do something crazy and elaborate when I proposed, but I picked up the ring on Thursday, after waiting for it to be ready for four or five weeks, I was excited and nervous, and I knew I couldn’t keep it a secret once I had the ring,” Nick explained. When he got home that night, he found Mallory on the couch, so he walked right to her, told her to stand up, and he dropped to one knee. “When he proposed to me, I was extremely surprised. I was so happy, of course, and glad that he had done it in such a sentimental place to both of us,” Mallory expressed. “He definitely caught me off guard. I knew Nick was the one after just a few months of dating. We survived two years of long distance before I moved to New Jersey to live with him—I knew that our commitment to one another was something special.” Nautical Nuptials: When it came time to choose a location to host their wedding, Mallory knew she wanted to tie the knot by the water, so she began searching for facilities close to Nick’s family’s house in Sea Girt, New Jersey. Upon visiting Clarks Landing Yacht Club, the bride was impressed by their incredible location, with views of the Manasquan River, impeccable service, innovative menu options, and décor featuring high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and modern chandeliers. Additionally, the couple liked having the option of having their ceremony on site, which made it convenient for guests. Breaking Tradition: Mallory and Nick decided to break tradition by having a first look prior to the ceremony at Point Pleasant boardwalk. This allowed the two to have a personal moment surrounded by their bridal party and helped calm their nerves before saying “I do.” The New Mr. and Mrs.: Mallory and Nick felt like they were the only ones in the room as they shared their first dance to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. On the Menu: Clarks Landing offered the wedding a cocktail hour and dinner that highlighted cuisine from all over the world. From a www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

For dinner, guests were served a fourcourse meal with a choice of Chateaubriand, roasted free-range organic chicken, or seafood combo for their main entrée. Bridal Beauty: Mallory’s hair was styled in elegant, loose waves, while her makeup beautifully enhanced her natural beauty. Megan, of Blush NJ, used neutral-hued tones for a sun-kissed, fresh-face look. Classic Chic: Mallory's eight bridesmaids stood by her side adorned in black Donna Morgan gowns. Her sisters, who were maid and matron of honor, wore the same style dresses, but with straps to make sure they stood out. boutique destination It was love at first sight for Nicole when she met her future husband, Nicholas, for the first time. While the two met through Nick’s sister and arranged their first date over Facebook, Nicole felt an instant connection to Nick when they met up at Washington DC’s Estadio restaurant. Nick, too, was instantly taken by his future bride after only seeing her on Facebook―he even made sure he got a fresh shirt for the occasion and kept thinking, “Don’t mess this up,” as he went to meet her. Soon after, at a Delaware football game, surrounded by extended family, Nicole was sure she had found her partner in life, and Nick was also positive that Nicole was the one for him. On May 2, 2014, Nicole was surprised to find Nick home early, and in their very first home together, Nick dropped down to his knee and asked Nicole to marry him. “My reaction was thinking I couldn’t believe it was happening and Yes, Yes, Yes!” said the bride. For Nick, the proposal was a moment that he wanted to share only with Nicole, as they had spent a lot of their relationship long-distance. “I wanted it to be intimate and also be in a place where we could call our families afterward,” he said. “I had had the ring for a few months but was waiting for a great spring day after I had spoken with both of her parents. I knew she was the one when I asked her to move in with me in Hoboken and she said yes!” Tropical Style: The couple incorporated indigenous florals throughout their wedding design, while still maintaining the sophistication of a traditional wedding. A tropical color palette of orange hues, gold, and white was used throughout the details. Island Elegance: When it came time to choosing a location to host their wedding day, Nicole and Nicholas agreed they wanted an intimate setting where they could tie the knot surrounded by their closest family and friends. The Rockhouse Hotel―where they had dinner during their 2013 vacation in Negril, Jamaica―fit the unique, boutique-style setting they were looking for. On the Menu: Guests had a choice of blackened snapper, grilled tenderloin of beef, or Jamaican vegetable stir-fry for dinner. Memorable Medley: To make the evening special for the bridal party, Nicole and Nicholas included their wedding songs on their playlist. “It was wonderful to see their faces light up and relive that special moment with their husband or wife,” Nicole reminisced. JUST MARRIED

Joey & Nicholas June 27, 2015 Azul Sensatori Riviera Maya, Mexico

"Nicholas and I love to travel, so it was never a question [that we would have a destination wedding in paradise]. We also have small families who were willing to make the trip for us. We did a lot of research, and although we didn't see Azul Sensatori prior to arriving three days before our wedding, it all ended up being well worth the risk." - Joey

destination mexcio Love happened gradually for newlyweds Joey and Nicholas. The two, who had met nearly 11 years ago through a mutual friend, took time to get to know each other before eventually falling in love. Their love proved to have no boundaries, and they began to jet around the world, something that was reflected in their Mexican destination wedding on June 27, 2015. First, though, was the romantic proposal in Italy. In March of 2015, in the pouring rain at Aphrodite’s garden in Capri, Italy, Nicholas dropped down to his knee and asked for Joey’s hand in marriage, giving her the best day of her life. This proposal was not a spontaneous one―it was one that Nicholas had spent a lot of time over the six months prior developing. “She is such a creative person, and I knew I had to do something special for her,” he said. “Italy was a special place to us, and I knew it had to be there. I knew she was the one about a month into our relationship. We were young, so I waited for the perfect time.” Viva Mexico: Rather than keep their wedding local, the couple decided a destination wedding at Azul Sensatori in Rivera Maya, Mexico was the right fit for them. While the two were ecstatic about the resort, they had not seen it until three days before the wedding took place. With all their research, though, as well as the accommodating staff at the resort and the wedding planner from Landmark Destination Weddings, they were able to find the perfect destination to host their celebration. “We heard amazing things about the resort. They were very flexible and didn’t have a lot of restrictions,” Joey shared. Picture-Perfect: One of the most important things to Joey on her big day were the pictures. After looking into a dozen photographers, the couple Skyped with Daniel of Daniel Diaz Photography and not only loved his personality, but his photos, too. Both he and his assistant Carlos offered the couple a unique eye for photos that were able to truly capture the love of these newlyweds. Welcoming Mr. & Mrs. Senise: After flying in to the wedding from New York, EZ Productions’ DJ made sure that the spotlight was completely on the newlyweds during their first dance, which was to Coldplay’s “Yellow.” “It was a truly magical moment to have everyone we loved watch as we danced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. to a song that meant so much to us since the beginning of our relationship,” Joey reflected. Princess for the Day: Walking into Castle Couture, Joey was convinced the search for the dress would be a long process. With the help of the sales associates at the boutique, however, the then bride-to-be was able to find the dress of her dreams in twenty minutes. Her ivory ball www.ContemporaryWeddingsMagazine.com

gown designed by Allure Bridals, featured a satin bodice with scooped ruching, a natural waistline, and a tulle bottom with a button-detail closure on the back. Chic and Simple: The ceremony took place under a canopy on the beach decorated with blue sheers and yellow and white corsages on the front poles. To tie together their beach theme, Lomas created a floral design that incorporated blues and yellows throughout. For the bride’s bouquet, Joey chose long-stem calla lilies. A locket was tied to the stems that had pictures of her father and nana, who had passed away. Dream Come True: After a proposal in the garden of the Greek goddess of love, it seemed the best option for a honeymoon was Greece, a place the couple always dreamed of going to together. There, the two relaxed in Santorini, toured the city of Athens, and went on a wine tour and to a cooking class. They had such an amazing time that they are already planning on going back.

Two Tickets to Paradise The Dominican Republic’s vibrant, sun-drenched, idyllic setting beckons couples with unparalleled relaxation, rich culture, intriguing history, and lush, tropical beauty. Located in the northeastern Caribbean—about 800 miles from Miami, Florida—you’ll find a free-spirited island boasting 1,000 miles of coastline with 250 miles of pristine beaches, offering the perfect blend of tropical splendor and cultural sophistication. Discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, the Dominican Republic is the second largest region in the West Indies, occupying the eastern two-thirds of Hispaniola, which the Dominican Republic shares with Haiti. This 18,000-mile-long island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the north and the Caribbean Sea on the south, with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to the east and Cuba and Jamaica to the west. The Dominican Republic’s tropical climate has near-perfect year-round weather, making this island a popular honeymoon choice for couples. During the summer, temperatures average 90 degrees and drop to a low of 65 degrees in the winter. Although rainstorms can happen any time of the year, precipitation usually only falls for short periods with warm sunshine quick to follow. With over nine million citizens, the Dominican Republic is home to some of the most hospitable people you’ll ever meet. Although most residents speak Spanish, the official language of the country, those in the tourism industry are multilingual and speak English, as well as French, German, and Italian.

The Suite Life Nestled within the Samaná Peninsula—one of the country’s most attractive and unexplored regions—is a beachfront resort where sultry romance meets island luxury in an all-inclusive setting. Catering to adults-only, the Viva Wyndham V Samaná is located just twenty minutes from El Catey International Airport on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic in Las Terrenas. This premier oceanfront resort boasts world-class accommodations, encompassing eclectic design and upscale amenities and featuring 144 stylish rooms. As guests, you can choose between two room categories. V Rooms are comfortable accommodations with pool or ocean views, while the VIBE Rooms offer an upgraded private sanctuary with a private plunge pool located directly on your terrace. From 24-hour room service to unlimited drinks, meals, turndown service, and more, everything you need is included during your stay at V Samaná. Whether you’re craving midday snacks or full-course meals, your palate is sure to be satisfied at any of the onsite restaurants. Dine at La Marche for market-style dining for breakfast and lunch or enjoy innovative à la carte dishes at the three on-site fine dining restaurants, serving Mediterranean, fusion, and seafood fare. Need a midday pick-me-up? Visit the oceanfront beach bar for libations and a variety of snacks, including brick oven pizza.

Island Activities From relaxation to adventure, there are many things to explore by day while honeymooning in the Dominican Republic. At V Samaná, bask under the Caribbean sun on the secluded beach or at the resort’s beautiful relaxing pool. Unwind at the all-natural-spa offering guests a full menu of healing and body treatments, including massages, exfoliation treatments, and body wraps, or enhance your skills in the kitchen through a cooking or mixology class. Zip-lining, kayaking, whale watching, hiking, and horseback riding to El Limon—a breathtaking 50-meter-high waterfall—are all exhilarating activities perfect for the thrill seeker. By night, begin your evening enjoying tropical cocktails as you watch the sun set, and dance the night away at El Hip, a bar and cocktail lounge with guest DJs and live entertainment to help get the party started.

Oceanfront Nuptials Doesn’t the thought of oceanfront nuptials, along with dinner and dancing under the glistening Samaná stars, make your heart skip a few extra beats? For those couples who dream of saying “I do” in a romantic, intimate setting with spectacular backdrops and famed sunsets, V Samaná can set the stage for an unforgettable walk down the aisle. The resort offers three wedding packages to choose from, along with a wedding planner to bring your vision to life.

Pack Your Bags The Dominican Republic is known for its casual island vibe and near-perfect tropical climate. When packing your 186

bags, bring items you know you’ll use, such as swimwear, cover-ups, hats, sunglasses, shorts, T-shirts, cocktail attire for fine dining restaurants, and a pair of sandals that can easily be dressed up or down. Planning on going on an excursion or two? Don’t forget sneakers for off-road adventures, zip-lining, mountain biking, or any other exhilarating activities. If you’ll be traveling during the cooler season (December through February) you may need a light jacket or sweater. You’ll also need your travel documents (passport, boarding passes, photo I.D., and traveler’s insurance papers if purchased) basic toiletries, sunblock, and any medications or health supplements.

How to Get Here Traveling to V Samaná in the Dominican Republic can be easy from most major cities on the Eastern Seaboard. Approximately a three-and-a-half-hour flight from the New York and New Jersey areas, most major US air carriers will fly into El Catey International Airport. From miles of idyllic coastline to verdant rolling hills, endless activities, and diverse culture, it’s no wonder the Dominican Republic is becoming a popular travel location for couples.
