OUR MESSAGE |
Dear CBN Partner I hope you are very well, and encouraged as you read this. A few weeks ago I met a Cape Town man whose father had recently passed away, leaving him as sole heir to their small family farm somewhere in the Eastern Cape. He described how strange it was for him to go back there after over 30 years, to return to the place he had grown up in after so long. The most profound thing for him was the difference in the way he was treated by those working on the farm. As he arrived labourers dipped their caps and everyone greeted him warmly and with great deference. The old farm manager, who used to ignore him as a boy and scold him for being a nuisance, now paid him huge respect and eagerly waited on him for instructions! Everyone on the farm knew that he was of his father’s household, and because of this he was now the carrier and representative of his dad’s full identity. He was no longer the seuntjie, he was now Meneer Myburgh* the Groot Baas. He was now the owner, the leader – and the one whose responsibility it was to take care of this little rural farm and all who lived within its borders.

As I thought about this more, I realized how powerful this picture is for us as believers. God’s word says that we have become His adopted children. And therefore we are royal “co-heirs with Christ” in His great Kingdom: . “…because you are sons, God has sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying Abba Father. So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 4:6 This means that we have inherited the incredible privilege, responsibility and authority to own, lead and care for this world that He loves so much! He has given us the authority (and the access to His power) to redeem and restore the earth and all who live on it towards fullness of life and knowledge of Him as Our Father. Do we really believe this? As my brother or sister, I challenge you (as I challenge myself and our CBNSA team) to read and re-read what God’s word says about what you have inherited and the authority, privilege and incredible responsibility you now carry as a fully-fledged son or daughter of God. Like the experience of Mr Myburgh on his father’s farm, stepping into these amazing truths will absolutely change how we see our Father’s world, and how the world sees us. ADVANCING FROM GLORY TO GLORY
Moving Forward in Your Journey of Faith By Gordon Robertson, Chief Executive Officer | 02

As Christians, we are on a journey of faith where our ultimate destiny is heaven. The Israelites’ exodus from Egypt is like a pilgrim’s progress that serves as a lesson for our journey today. They saw the Red Sea part. They were given manna and water in the desert. Yet when it was time to enter Canaan, they didn’t believe God— so they wandered 40 years in the wilderness. Their leader, Moses, was a friend of God who spoke with Him face to face and received the law at Sinai—yet was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. He told the people in Deuteronomy 3:26, “The Lord was angry with me on your account.” Yet God also gave Moses a wonderful promise: “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him” (Deuteronomy 18:18). Jesus fulfilled this as a prophet, ruler and priest. God poured out all of His wrath on His Son, which means there is none left for you and me. Of course, like the Israelites, we need to recognize that God is a consuming fire. We must watch to see where He is moving at every point along our journey so we can advance from glory to glory. And as we focus on our ultimate desti-
nation, we want to equip others for the journey as well. God told Moses: “Command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see” (Deuteronomy 3:28). It’s vital for each generation to transmit the faith to the next generation and train them how to inherit God’s promises. Moses said in Deuteronomy 4:5: “I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess.” Paul echoed this in writing to Timothy: Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 1:13). So, who is your Timothy? Who is your Joshua? May God bless you on your journey as you share your faith with the next generation. This teaching was given during a CBN staff chapel. Scripture is taken from the NKJV.

| PARTNERSHIP
Together, We Can Make A Difference! Dear CBN Partners, I trust that you will enjoy this second edition of Frontlines that showcases how you have been able to change the lives of so many in need. We at CBN are so grateful for your partnership in the ministry. We understand that partnership is biblical and is highlighted a few times in the new testament specifically when Paul makes use of the word, “partnership,” to describe both church leaders and churches labouring together: • As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for your benefit. (2 Cor. 8:23) • I thank my God in all my remembrance of you…because of your partnership in the gospel. (Phil. 1:3-5) It is my heart’s desire for us to continue to work together to do good work, serve others and to work towards fulling our mission to provide opportunities, support, resources, training and sustainability for the multiplication of CBN ministry in our region. We know that we cannot achieve this without you, our faithful partners. Partnership helps enhance our

Partnership helps to maximize our potential sphere of influence, providing a grid through which different people and organisations can influence more broadly than we otherwise could. Partnership provides so many resources to help us to ultimately share the Gospel within our neighbourhoods and the nations in Africa. Partnership allows us to do more than we ever imagined compared to working alone. We stand on your faith, prayers, financial support, hands on work and encouragement. We truly appreciate all you have contributed. Let us continue to work together and remind ourselves of the greater worldwide CBN mission at hand, which is to prepare the nations of the world for the coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth.
PARTNERSHIP |
Let’s Pray Together Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for giving us the opportunity to work for you. Teach us to work together as an effective and efficient community, to plan and to work hard even when no one is watching. Thank you for the community of believers of which we are part of within Africa. We are thankful that when we feel alone or shaken by life’s challenges, we can rely on the other believers who are supporting us in so many ways. Help us to continue to be a support and encouragement to those in need so that we all stand firm in you. Thank you that when we are rooted in you, we are connected with others who love you and want to see your Kingdom expand. Amen God bless you all

CBN BIBLE DRIVE IN WESTLAKE On the 6th of March 2019 we held a Bible drive in Westlake, Cape Town. We have been collecting bibles since October last year. A big thank you goes out to the generous CBN partners who contributed 83 bibles in total. CBN SA collaborated with Westlake United Churches Trust who work in Westlake (WUCT). A few other local church representatives from the surrounding communities joined us as well. The local

churches that were represented are: Westlake Assemblies of God, Westlake Community Church, Acts Mission, Nehemiah Church, Kings Cross Church and Old Apostolic Church. Together we made up 8 teams who prayed for individuals and handed out the bibles. One of the teams went to the local clinic to pray for the sick who received the much need bibles. Many of the patients were open to hearing Gospel mes-

We even had an encounter with a young man that was under the influence of drugs who we were able to pray for and he gladly received a bible. We were all very blessed after an incredible time of prayer. It was such an honor to work with WUCT and the other local churches. Encouraging testimonies came out from this outreach and a total of thirteen people gave their lives to the Lord. We continue to pray that God would complete the work that He started in their lives.

Updates & Highlights We have a saying in the office we often throw around whenever we speak of Superbook. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. We believe this as a team because of the different ways in which the gospel is presented and can be experienced through Superbook. Almost as though God is inviting His children to grab hold of His multifaced character and wisdom. Our desire as a team is to have Superbook embedded in the social framework of most children’s lives. We want to see Sipho from Gugulethu grow spiritually from watching Superbook on his favourite TV channel. Lunga from Langa growing in the word daily though the interactive bible quiz and games he plays on the Superbook APP. Cindy from Midrand becoming encouraged and strengthened through the Superbook life skills school programme, to face her own Goliath like challenges. James

Yolanda Magida, Superbook Manager for Southern Africa from Durbanville becoming an active citizen and evangelist in his community because he was part of our Superbook Club. This is a dream that our partners become a part of when they are praying for us or investing their donation in the ministry. I believe as we walk this journey together, we can truly present the bible and allow children to experience it as a living and breathing Word of God, a guide to navigate life, a literature in understanding the relationship God has with humanity, a base for their spiritual formation and development. A true gift that keeps on giving. Check out our highlight reports and be inspired! There are lots of ways to get involved with Superbook and or simply invite Gizmo to your neighborhood. Don’t be shy

Highlights Superbook Screenings, Events and Clubs: • We ended the year of 2018 strong! We were able to reach a total of about 191 children with the gospel through Superbook in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities such as Steenberg, Gugulethu and Bonteheuwel. This would have not been possible without our partnership with Fikelela Aids Project championed by the Anglican Church. Through the
screening we had the privileged of witnessing a total of 64 salvations. We showed and taught on the “1st Christmas” episode which allowed the children to understand the true reason for the celebrations - That the greatest gift is that God gave his only Son for us. • On the 1st of February we screened Superbook at Westlake, a community dear to our heart as it is near our offices. It was co-hosted event together with Westlake United Church Trust. We managed to reach a total of 150 children. The event will be a regular feature in our calendar every month where we get the opportunity to minister gospel through Superbook. We are still in search for individuals, community leaders and NGO’s who would love to work in partnership with us to establish Superbook Clubs in various communities. If you feel led to do this, please do not hesitate to contact us on 021 701 1776 or send Yolanda an email on

| HUMANITARIAN
ON THE GROUND The year has started with a bang! I can’t believe that it is already almost through March. I’m reminded of the words of Jesus where he said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matt 6:33 NIV. As the pace of life increases with each year, I find this scripture more important than ever before, and I try to apply it to my life each day, although I often get it wrong too. This is also the focus we try to have within our humanitarian efforts, and to remember that it’s not just about handing out a food parcel or providing water for the thirsty, but to also bring in Christ and His kingdom. The year has begun with the closing out of four wells. Three in northern Uganda, and one in Swaziland. Both in areas where access to clean and safe drinking water is scarce. Trips are

planned to visit both of them in the next two months. The trips will be twofold; one would be to see the finished product and to make sure it meets the correct standards, as well as to document and to sign the well off as complete. Two, probably the most important part of the trips, would be to meet the people receiving the wells, to connect with them, to hear their stories, their struggles, but also their hopes. To hear how the well has blessed them. And then lastly to hopefully in some small way, minister to them, as they go from “beneficiaries” to friends in Christ. The world needs humanitarian efforts, but it needs Christ more. As far as I am concerned Jesus is the answer to all the worlds challenges. Speaking of challenges, some of you would have heard about the challenges facing the nation of Zimbabwe. Hyper-inflation, lack of food, and police brutality was experienced in the last two months. As an office we started praying for the nation, which is our neighbour, and we asked ourselves the question, can we do something? We started to look at options and spoke to some great friends who are skilled in the area of disaster relief in and around Africa. We are currently looking into potentially taking up food, as well as some disaster relief aid, however it will require us to raise funds, and/or apply for funding. This will be an exciting project, as it will be our first humanitarian effort into the nation of Zimbabwe, and as with most projects, it could open doors for other avenues of ministry, so please join us in prayer for this opportunity. In terms of the year ahead, our goal is to target 10 special humanitarian

projects, which would mostly include clean water projects. This would be more than double the projects we did last year, but with the Lord’s help we know we can do it. We are already investigating two wells in South Africa, with potentially more in Swaziland and Uganda. Please pray for open doors.
we met a young man who would be staring to work in the garden, under the care of one of their discipleship programmes.
In closing I thought I would share about our recently completed Aquaponics Garden in Strandfontein. Last year we completed a self-sustaining garden in a small neglected community on the outskirts of Strandfontein called 7 de Laan. The well was completed for a ministry called Hope Southern Africa (HOSA for short), who run a number of programmes to benefit, teach, disciple and uplift the community. We are pleased to report that the garden is thriving. They grow a number of items, some of which go towards feeding the children in their creche, other items go towards a local community soup kitchen, and then they have also recently started making and selling Basil Pesto. All proceeds from sales go towards the ministry. In additional to this, the garden has also created employment opportunities and also discipleship opportunities. On our last visit to HOSA
Projects like this would not be possible with your prayers and support, so on behalf of the many beneficiaries who benefit from our projects, thank you & God bless.

• Projects have supported children with stationary, clothes and some contributed toward school fees to ensure that children are able to attend school. • We are working with Lamb International to work toward trauma informed projects who will not only make a difference in children’s lives on the spiritual and intellectual level, but also provide emotional care. It is a goal to also link arms with our CBN Humanitarian counterpart and implement the initiative where applicable and possible.

ORPHAN’S PROMISE |
NOELLENE’S STORY
Noellene lives with her mother, Millred in Bufflesdraai, Verulam. Her father does not live with the family. She has four siblings, a brother and three sisters. Millred is unemployed and relies on the child support that she receives from the Government. She needs to make ends meet with her meagre R1200 for four children. The first week of school we realised that Noellene was very quiet and did not respond when we spoke to her, and when she did respond she spoke very softly. Noellene also did not pay attention in class. She seemed very troubled. We asked for her mum to help us understand her behaviour. Millred mentioned that Noellene’s father is not allowed to come anywhere near the family. Noellene’s father was very abusive and that is the reason the mother separated from him. Millred had six children, two sons and four daughters. Her eldest son was murdered in January last year. He was an addict and left home but he came back home after much prayer and gave up drugs. He was supporting the family financially and physically, but unfortunately he was murdered. This tragedy was very devastating for the family. Millred’s second son who lives with family is twenty years old and he is also an addict and he is very abusive and violent. Because of her son’s abusive condition Millred is unable to work because she is afraid to leave her son alone with her other children. We advised Millred to seek help for her son and the other kids. She is due to see social workers to try and help resolve the situation. We now understand a little more of Noelle’s home situation and the behavior she displayed in the class. Our Educare staff have been aware of her behaviour and now are working on remedial action for her. Our staff have been counselling Millred and her family. We have already seen a difference in Noellene’s demeanour. We have been making sure that she’s reassured and given extra attention. Our staff are praying with the family as well. Millred is so grateful to us for accepting her daughter at the Educare this year. She appreciates that Noellene is safe and well cared for. Noellene seems to be adjusting well in the class environment and enjoys her time with her new found friends at Educare.

a psalm written by the cbn team My perfect Father I sit at your feet. Just us. I am at peace here. I feel loved here. I feel accepted and free. Oh Lord, you made us and you know us and we are your delight. The treasure to your heart is who we are. We bless you for Agape love, which is who you are. You alone are worthy of worship. I desire to be the best vessel for your use. Fill me to overflowing and show your glory through me, oh God! How wonderful is it to be in your presence. This wonderful love that knows no end. My doubts, fears and disappointments come like fog, clouding my vision and stealing fullness of joy and life abundant. But your promises shine bright and forever. Yes and Amen! My soul is satisfied because I am yours. You carry me through times of trouble, though I hide, you search for me and find me. You know me Lord inside and out, you know my hearts desires. Put my heart through your refining fire. So that when it comes out, you are all that I desire.

Q: Does God judge our thoughts?

A: In the Bible, reading from the King James Version, Psalm 19:14 says, Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. The psalmist considered the meditation of our heart important and that includes our thought life. And we’re to love the Lord with all of our heart and all of our mind and all of our strength. That’s what our heavenly Father wants. Having said all that, the answer is yes. God does judge our thoughts. He knows our thoughts and expects the meditation of our heart to be acceptable in His sight.
