Be safe now in this month with Halloween and Guy Fawkes night as it is easy to get carried away and forget the safety

aspects of the celebrations. Children to go with adults when knocking door to door for trick a treating and also with fireworks to light one at a time and stand back until it goes off. If firework does not go off then light the next one in another section of your garden and come back to it the next day. Don't take safety for granted and in this recession we

cannot afford to take time off and it would be a pity to take time off for something that could be avoided. Now all enjoy yourselves and keep your self safe. Also this month my book has finally come out after some delays and is now available via Water-stones book stores and other retailers. It is also available around the globe in all English speaking

countries for now and may be translated into other languages later. If you wish to have it translated into another language then please do let the publishers know via the amazon website.

Hi, I’m Matt Broadway-Horner and I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It’s often abbreviated to ‘CBT’ and it’s used to help people overcome a wide range of problems that can tremendously impact your quality of life. According to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), its the chosen therapy of for various addictions; anger management; anxiety attacks; body dysmorphic disorder; chronic fatigue syndrome; depression; jealousy; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); health anxiety; vomit phobia; other phobias; PostTraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); relationship difficulties; sexual dysfunction; sleep difficulties; social phobia and performance anxiety. In my practice, I have also used it to treat problems including generalised anxiety disorder; Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS); Hoarding issues and Stress Management. Whether or not you are certain that your issues belong to one of these categories, do call me for expert advice on what CBT could offer you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a tradition that focuses on the way people think and act in order to overcome their emotional and behavioural problems. The effectiveness of CBT has been more extensively researched than any other therapy. It has been demonstrated that it allows people to stay well longer. This is partly due to a strong focus on the individual being able to help themselves in the longer term. The educational aspects can be applied to help an individual can actually support them to become their own therapist.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy uses a variety of approaches rather than any single rigid ‘method’. These include mindfulness-based cognitive therapy; acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT); imagery; reprocessing and re-scripting therapy (IRRT), rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT), behavioural activation (BA) and functional analytic psychotherapy (FAP).

CBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

It can be useful to look separately at Obsessions and then Compulsions. With Obsessions, the symptoms include bursts of:

• Words

• Ideas

• Indecision

• Images

• Doubts

The person experiencing them recognises that these thought patterns come from within their own mind and wants to stop them, but is unable to. The obsessions can be of a quite distressing nature - sexual, violent or blasphemous - and in conflict with the person's own moral beliefs

Compulsions are often the actions resulting from the Obsession, and one of the few ways that the person can deal with the thoughts and keep the anxiety or discomfort away

Failure to complete the compulsion often results in severe Anxiety or Panic - but continuing to try to live with the rituals often leads to Depression. Many people live with the OCD for years before seeking treatment. The kinds of compulsions that people experience are:

• Rituals - doing things in a certain order or a set number of times

• Cleaning

• Checking tasks that have already been completed

• Needing cutlery or furniture, and so on, to be arranged in a certain way

These Compulsions can take many forms, and this list covers only the most common ones
