Cruisin ’ copa Gathering at the shark tower for our monthly meet, the small but eager crowd, were greeted by even smaller meager waves.
The most crowded place on the beach was the viewing platform, with the Avoca board riders declaring early, saying if you blokes on longboards aren’t sure we have no hope out there! Have to agree there, we were all thinking of a cook up breakfast. But, never to be deterred, and after further discussion the prez made a dash to Copa. Success! There was a small smooth peak down near the lake. Set up was very swift, as we were aiming to get as many heats done before the high tide slowed us up. Well we got about four heats done and the bank disappeared, but there were some nice little right hander’s scored, and it was good fun while it lasted. In the lull periods we were entertained by the local police force, trudging up the beach to apprehend the young groms who had dug a channel in the sand all night to let the lagoon out. They were hoping to get a decent size wave but alas no lugga waves were caught as the council tractor filled in their hours of work in about 10 minutes. The boys in blue came back up the beach
with more shovels than the local MITRE 10 has on sale, so I am guessing when the Copa dads look in the shed questions will be asked. With all the fun and the waves done for the day, the only sensible thing to do was to fire up the BBQ, which was another cracker, even the local ducks and kookaburras joined in, keeping a very watchful eye on the hot plate. We had one person stand guard while the other flipped the sausages and threw salad in the air. Whilst we had that covered Phil Roxburgh ran decoy, pretending to enjoy a tasty muesli bar. Phil was just about to bite in, when bang decoy gone to the local kooka or was it Grant Hackett in a bird suit on Uncle Toby’s patrol – mmmm?, thanks mate the snags are safe, oh and the veggie burgers too!

Many thanks to Phil Morgan for another fine feast, and a big thanks to Beachin Surf for the awesome raffle prizes, and of course the fine selection of wines from Chateau de Donny Blades. It’s now the business end of the year so no more scores in the newsletter, as mentioned at the end of the day B and C grade have been combined this year due to the small numbers in the grades, and the committee is looking into a new format for next year, all members are encouraged to share their views on this at the next club day. We have only two comps left so come along and enjoy the day’s activities. One of our fantastic sponsors of the Magoo Charity Classic, Booths Hyundai Gosford has a special promo running at the moment that puts you in the running for a Mctavish Longboard when purchasing a new or used car or van. Head to the club website and booths website for all the details or have a chat with Dave Portelli 4321 7777 at the dealership, he will look after you. The crescent head-trip is on next weekend the 17th & 18th
October, come along and enjoy a great weekend, there are plenty of campsites available. Also lock in the presso night for 2014. We will be finalising the numbers in the first couple of weeks in November. It is scheduled at Davistown RSL 22nd November, times to be confirmed but be prepared to kick your shoes off for a friendly or competitive game of bowls early on to warm up. This Sunday the 12th of October we are at Lakes Beach. See you all there 7.00am at the surf club! Ed
